Video: Precious little new as teams set table for Game 5

Jeff Halpern finds reason to smile after the Canadiens’ morning skate.
Framegrab from Stubbs video

So how many ways can both teams say tonight is must-win, it’s a new series, it’s a best-of-five, blah, blah, blah…

Don’t blame the players and coaches… blanket them with media looking for a fresh angle on a situation that is hardly new and that’s what you get.

No major lineup changes expected on either side. Canadiens coach Jacques Martin says his roster is a game-time decision, but Benoit Pouliot, Paul Mara and Yannick Weber all spent considerably more time on TD Garden ice than did their teammates. So expect them to be out for the second straight game.

Man, just saw the Pens/TB score, what the hell happened? It’s a miracle, Stamkos scored!

  6. PrimeTime says:

OMG. Calm down people. I want the Habs to win as much as anyone but my life is not centered whether the succeed or not. Couldn’t care less if Gomez makes $7M. Every team has overpaid and underpaid players. They win or lose as a team…..ever play competitive sports?? You don’t get too high and you don’t get too low. You go and try to help your team win….sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t. Game breakers vary from game to game and sh*t happens. No matter the outcome of the game or series, it doesn’t make you, the fan, any different. If you need others or a “brand” to make you feel better you may want to take a step back and have a thought or two about yourself!

ive seen some momo remarks on this board…
but the past few days are ridiculous.
    sad.
    defeatist.
    contrarian.
plus the spelling is just atrocious.
the same posters over and over with the same banal uninspired drivel.
habs are a great team. always has been throughout history.
yet this site revers those who would crush that winning spirit.
also, pat hickey- you write your articles as if none of have ever read a book or can follow any deep subject matter. in short you write uninspired generic crap.

    bye bye shit site.

      Ciao babe.

    • ManApart says:

No, the Habs aren’t a great team. Really haven’t been since 1989. But I’ll accept 1993 because of the Cup run. But if it makes you feel better.

    • TheLogician says:

war72 blathered…”plus the spelling is just atrocious”

      and followed that up with…

“habs are a great team. always has been”…ah, it’s “have”. well, at least according to my old grade 4 grammar text it is.

“yet this site revers”…ah, it’s “reveres”.

“you write your articles as if none of have ever read a book”…none of have??? no comment.

you, sir, have just earned yourself the dingdong of the year award. and that’s really saying something given the amount of (ahem) “banal uninspired drivel” we see in these here parts. congrats!

Forgive me for getting ahead, but if the Habs can trade Gomez and Spacek to sub-cap-basement dwellers, a lineup of…

    Kostistsyn Plekanec Cammalleri
    Pacioretty Eller Gionta
    Pouliot/Darche Desharnais Palushaj
    Moen/Darche Engqvist White

    Subban Gill
    Markov Gorges
    Wisniewski Picard/Weber

… wouldn’t be bad, and likely would leave cap space to upgrade a position. Would be nice to make an RFA run at Ladd, Okposo or Parisé to fill swap that Pouliot spot.

    • Tony McLean says:

      Parise` now yer talkin’.

“I can think of five million reasons Price has to play better tonight.”

    • ManApart says:

Eller would be an awful 2nd line center. Let him score more than 20 career points before putting him there. Bottom 2 lines are awful depth wise. Palushaj, Enqqvist are not NHLers. Moen gives you 6 goals a season. Forget Pouliot. Even though the Defense looks pretty good, this team will not get nearer to the Cup, than they are now.

      • CanadienFanTrappedinNiagaraFallsNY says:

its a 4th line. i dont care if moen pots 6, hes on our team playing TOP LINE minutes now because no one else can, and he could be worse at it.

what my main point was is that we could ice a respectable team on day one with gomez or spacek, a healthier defense. and again, as i said, there would be money to upgrade a winger pos. and the UFA selection sucks, and we dont have much youth to trade.

in short, no this teams not better than the current, you are right. but its has room to grow. right now it doesnt. also would you rather have enqvist and pulshaj out there than another year of gomez and a 35 yr old halpern? look at it that way.

    • samTHEman says:

      Pouliot….who’s this?

      ~Kiss my ass Lucic!!!!

    • naweed235 says:

lol dont mean to ruin your moment but if Habs trade Gomez and Spacek that’s almost $11.5 M in cap space that opens up… I doubt that Eller would be our 2nd line center at that point… 11.5 means an elite center + and elite winger if not another solid defenceman…

      • CanadienFanTrappedinNiagaraFallsNY says:

i see your point but you are forgetting that i am assuming wisniewski is re-signed, like for around 5 million and markov back on the books for almost as much. i dont think you could do more with the savings than upgrade a winger position and demote kostitsyn to third liner. if we got rid of gomez i highly doubt they would able to sign a peaking top 2 center in that scenario.

        • naweed235 says:

well you can sorta Cancel out Wis’ contract by taking Hammerlik’s off the book… maybe off by half a million or so… I still dont think having Eller as a 2nd line center is a good idea… we need some star caliber center on this team… I dont care if they have to overpay for him but i say go Get Richards from Dallas… or as a plan B swollow your pride and Trade Tom Pyatt for Crosby… :)

    • naweed235 says:

I’d like to see something along the lines of:

      Cammi-Pleks-Kost
      MaxPac-Richards-Gionta
      Darche-Desharnais-palush
      Moen-eller-kanopka

      Gill-Subban
      Markov-Georges
Wiz-webber / or another shutdown D from UFA market

  10. Hobie Hansen says:

If the Habs can get passed Boston I think that might represent the toughest task in getting to the finals. If Buffalo knocks off the Flyers they’ll face Washington in the next round, correct?
I think Montreal could take out Buffalo, TB, Pittsburgh or Philadelphia. They would really have their hands full with Washington though.
    C’mon boys! BEAT BOSTON!
    GO HABS GO!!!!!!

  11. Hobie Hansen says:

Looks like a pretty focused and intense morning skate. Glad to see them working on faceoffs!
