Did you have Raffi Torres in your pool to score the only goal of Game 1?

Taking a pass from Jannik Hansen, the third-liner beat Tim Thomas on Vancouver’s 36th shot.

Roberto Luongo made 34 saves for his third shutout of the playoffs.

Not a great game. Through the first 40 minutes, the refs called a dozen penalties. The parade to the box disrupted both teams’ lines and prevented any rhythm or flow developing.

Worse, it left the players confused as to what might or might not be called, resulting in a series of dives that made the game look like the Serie A final.

Don Cherry called it “the worst game I’ve ever seen in the Stanley Cup finals.”

The Canucks have won the opener of every series they’ve played.

A dark cloud on the horizon: Dan Hamhuis was hurt early in the second period and did not return. But Alain Vigneault said his defenceman was “fine”.

Ian Mendes of Sportsnet Tweets: Other teams with Game 1 shutouts in Cup Final: ’08 DET, ’03 ANA, ’01 COL, ’84 EDM, ’83 NYI. All won Cup.

The topic ofย  Thursdays controversy will be Alex Burrows.

Did he bite Patrice Bergeron?

  2. Chris F says:

You know your deep on D when you have Keith Ballard a healthy scratch in the playoffs, he may not be an all-star, but still!!
So happy the Goons lost. But once again, I have to say it again for effect, ONCE AGAIN, BOSTON CAN’T LOSE WITHOUT COMING OUT AND CRYING FOUL AFTER THE GAME!!! HE BIT ME, HE BIT ME, WAAAAAHH!, WAAAAAAHH!!!!
Give me a break, at one point in the game Healy counted 10!! crosschecks to the back of one of the Canucks behind the net, the Goons have finally met their match. Van City can beat them 1-0 or 6-5, take your pick. Montreal didn’t have the scoring to win the 5-4 games, and couldn’t score in overtime…..Vancouver can and will!!! It’s time for someone to put out the Bully, take him to the back of the bus and give the bully what’s coming!!
    Go Canucks Go,
    Go Habs Go!!
PG—You have to get some toughness this year, just look at Vancouver and how many times they could stand up to the Goons.

  3. HabFanSince72 says:

Replays clearly show that Bergeron voluntarily guided his finger in Burrows’ mouth. Now the Bruins are over-selling his “injury” in order to get Burrows banned.

  4. fofe84 says:

    That should help.

    • CHsam says:

well we all know who is doing it anyways. Jeez. Are we worried about upsetting the few Bruins trolls here ? (Ambrose, Alexandra, BruinsFan, etc etc et ) ?

Just remember that nobody was suspended for a single game when Pacioretty got slammed into the stanchion from behind. Just remember that the Bruins’ success exist due to many levels of conflict of interests.

Okay delete my post again. Cowards.

      • The Cat says:

You know Id love to say bruins trolls are the problem on this site, but 9 times out of 10 its hab fans who have little class, poor sportsmanship etc

I read one guy on a site or something and he once said the one thing that makes him hate hockey is watching a game with a habs fan.

[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.

  5. Canadiens_25 says:

Ian Mendes should check his stats before tweeting. The ’03 Ducks lost in the finals.

  6. fofe84 says:

There was a hilarious moment during the second period when Burrows was penalized for tripping Tim Thomas. On the HNIC broadcast, Glenn Healy assumed the penalty was goaltender interference and started whining about how it wasn’t a penalty because Thomas was way out of his crease. True, he was out of his crease by a mile and thus, goaltender interference was not committed. But you’re still not allowed to just kick a guy’s leg out from under him! After Cherry, Healy has to be the most consistently idiotic person in hockey.

That said, it sure was awesome to see the Bruins lose. Man, I love that. Can’t wait to see my boy Max Lapierre hoist that Cup!

Biting. Poor showing. Why can’t CAN teams respect the game? Bringing down sport to WWE standards. Shame.

  8. sidhu says:

If you look at the replay of the Hamhuis hit on Lucic, his head does not get touched because of the hit. The contact with his head, therefore, must be from the cross-check to the head from Kreciji.

If the league truly cares about head shots, they’ll suspend Kreicji.

But, since this league is a joke, it’s more likely he’ll receive no discipline at all, but Burrows will be out at least a game.

  9. sidhu says:

Cherry would have loved the game if it had the outcome he preferred.

So… how many of you want the Habs to sign Torres after he put the B’s away?!? ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1 down, 3 to go

  10. Chuck says:

Man, Chara looked great on that goal, eh? HAHAHA!!!!

…..My empire is crumbling, my international sponsors are deserting me, my authority is questioned, I am held in contempt wherever I go.

Who am I: Mohamar Ghadaffi or Gary Bettman.

  14. TINMAN17 says:

My only question is: if Burrows gets suspended for biting a finger, does Krejci for a retaliatory cross-check to the head after a clean check of another player? Bergeron remained in the game. Hamhuis did not.
F’n Bruins always after a clean hard check, huh? Subban smokes Marchand for instance.

Born and Bred in Enemy Territory (Boston).

    • fofe84 says:

My guess is that Krejci will not be suspended. Colin Campbell may not be calling the shots anymore, but for this series, Mike Murphy and Kris King are the disciplinarians. Both are members of Coly’s staff.

      • D Mex says:

        Totally agree.
Seems doubtful Shanahan would want to make his first mark by inviting controversy (read : whining from Bs) during the marquee event of the season.

        ALWAYS Habs –
        D Mex

  15. CHsam says:

Oh yeah J Ambrose. Hope you enjoyed game 1 lmao. Wow. Dumb ass Bruins fans. Lol.

  16. CHsam says:

I know you Bruins trolls are checking this page out (BruinsFan, Alexandra).. Suck it. Still can’t believe Chara didn’t get one suspension. Regardless of whether the Bruins win or lose the Stanley, the one truth remains is this: the Bruins’ succeed due to multiple levels of conflict on interests. Black and gold my ass.

    • BsFanforLife says:

I know I know, Chara is a big monkey, The Bruins are goons, the whole team should have been suspended for the hit on Patches, You all won back in ’93, You have 24 Cups…… Heres your issue. Get out of the past. The past isnt going to put Cups in your hand. Its the here and now and quite frankily I am pretty sure that results in you sitting on the couch rooting for the Canucks to beat the team you hate most. Keep that in mind as you whine about the “atrocities” that have befallen your team in the past.

      • Sharks9 says:

You just don’t want to remember the past because it’s a long list of failures for your team. What is it now, 5 SCF’s in a row without a Cup? Gonna be making that 6 now!

        25 before 14

  17. kempie says:

That has got to hurt! Oh man, I love it. An overtime loss stings in the SCF, especially when it’s 1-0 in game 1. But to go the distance and give up the first goal with 18 ticks on the clock? Ooooooh man. Lotta broken sticks in that hallway! And I agree Boone. Luckiest goaltender since Hasek. So, in summary, BWAAAAAHAAAAAAAHAAAAHAAAAHAAA!!!! OOOOOHHHH MAN, AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH HAAAAA HAAAAA!!!! Oh damn. Good night.

    • fofe84 says:

I hate the Bruins as much as the next guy, but to be fair to Thomas, he is very consistently “lucky.” I know his style is unorthodox, but you can’t succeed that often on luck. But, you know, f*ck him and his team.

    • BsFanforLife says:

Thats right, he has been lucky in winning a Vezina and being the odds on favorite to win this year while posting the best single season save percentage since……. Dominik Hasek. But dont let me be the one to let facts get in the way of your delusion.

  18. Curtis O Habs says:

Somewhere right now Cam Neely is eating, to make the pain go away.

  20. Sean Bonjovi says:

I wish both teams could have lost, but since that can’t happen I’m glad it was the Bruins.

  21. otter649 says:

Players won’t bite or get hungry if games did not start at 5pm….lol

  22. Peter Young says:

I only watched the third period, but from what I saw, Boone is right: Thomas is so lucky. But luck ran out with 18 seconds left. Go Canucks. No exclamation point because I’m not a fan of the Canucks. I just want the Bruins to lose.

  23. JohnBellyful says:

Thank goodness Vancouver’s canuckleheads are better than Bruins’ goons.

  24. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Tough position for Cam Neely. Did Jim Hughson see where he and Chiarelli had to sit in Tampa Bay. Now that was tough positioning. Jeff Vinik should be ashamed that he hasn’t fixed that situation.

  56. Mullie01 says:

Burrows just had a “dental malfunction”, right Ference?

  57. doug says:

Please kill me. The Bruins can’t be in the finals. This can’t be happening.

    • TomNickle says:

What revenge could be more appropriate than the Bruins getting to the Finals and having their hopes crushed? I’m fine with it. The hockey gods can’t be so cruel that they allow that WWE hockey team to win the Stanley Cup.

      I hope not at least.

      • _Habsoloutly_ says:

It’s kind’ve funny, thats what I’ve been telling myself all week. I was so pissed that the Goons made it to the cup final, I started telling myself “how great will it be if they make it this far and fail”.

        • TomNickle says:

Yep. There’s no way that Giraffe can hoist the Cup. Can’t happen. It is noteworthy that hockey gods are cruel though. I’m just hoping they aren’t that cruel.

          • fofe84 says:

I don’t know, all in all, I’d say the hockey gods have been pretty kind to us over the years.

  58. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Nucks look like they’re running out of gas a bit. Time to get the O2 tank on the bench!! C’mon boy’s!

  59. OneTimer says:

Thomas is pretty solid. Just about the only Bruin I like.

  60. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Wasn’t that a hand pass by the Bruin?

  61. TomNickle says:

The only thing keeping the Sedins from being as good as Crosby is four ahem…….marbles.

As I’m typing that Hansen will score on a breakaway he gets one and chokes. Great!

  62. HotHabs says:

Thomas did nothing on that tip. Sat there frozen like a deer in the headlights. Very fortunate…

Good to see Michael J Fox still fighting his battle.

I like what Don Cherry said a few years ago (the less-senile guy). “A guy sticks his finger in my mouth, whatta ya think I’m gonna do?”

  66. Chuck says:

Hey Bergeron, if you don’t want to get your finger bit, don’t shove it into your opponent’s mouth.

    • TomNickle says:

Seems to be the new thing eh. Players used to just haul off and punch a guy in the nose for facewashing them. Biting seems to have taken over as a penalty free retaliation.

  67. OneTimer says:

So, is it just me, or does this game suck a little?

  68. HardHabits says:

Habs would have scored 3 goals by now.

  69. _Habsoloutly_ says:

Things are a little differen’t for the B’s when Daddy isn’t sending out emails. Van has to make them pay on one of thses PP’s!

    • fofe84 says:

Kris King and Mike Murphy are in charge of supplementary discipline for this series, and they both work for Campbell, so we’re not quite out of his shadow just yet.
