At a glance: The Canadiens are back from the brink. After a
slim 2-1 win in Game 5 on Friday night, the Canadiens left no doubt on Monday
night with a 4-1 victory over the Washington Capitals in Game 6 of their
Eastern Conference quarterfinal. It was Montreal’s first postseason win on home
ice in seven games. Just like Friday night, though, Montreal jumped out to a
quick 2-0 lead, this time thanks to Michael Cammalleri. He opened the scoring
on the power play 7:30 into the period and made it 2-0 with his fifth of the
playoffs at the 9:09 mark with a quick shot from the far boards that eluded
Capitals goaltender Semyon Varlamov. P.K. Subban, who was recalled from the
Hamilton Bulldogs earlier Monday, collected an assist on the second goal, his
first career NHL playoff point in his first playoff game. Maxim Lapierre, who
took two diving penalties in the game, made it 3-0 4:17 into the third period
with a rising slap shot that eluded Varlamov. At the other end of the ice,
Jaroslav Halak withstood a furious Washington onslaught all night long, facing
54 shots. Eric Fehr broke Halak’s bid for a shutout with a tip-in with less
than five minutes to play on Washington’s 52nd shot on goal. Tomas
Plekanec capped off the scoring with an empty-net goal with 57 seconds to play.

What it means: The Canadiens have erased the 3-1
series lead the Capitals held after Game 4 and forced Game 7.

What’s next: Game 7 goes Wednesday night in Washington.

  1. showey47 says:

I’m willing to bet PK new last night he was coming to montreal to play tonight.

  2. KenD29 says:

Watch for Sergei or Pouliot to sit this one out, MAB on the 4th line and Subban paired with Hamrlik!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  3. jimmy shaker says:

I think MAB is going to be watching from the presser.  I don’t think JM will give a 4th line spot away now!  PK can take MAB’s PP minutes and do a better job in his zone.  As much as I’d like to have MAB in there, I think he’s officially done now.  The fourth line looks like it’s going to be Pyatt/Metro/Darche or SK74.  I don’t think MAB can take one of those guys out!

  4. jimmy shaker says:

True…I hope he’s in for hammer!

  5. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

between you and I, I prefer MAB over Hamrlik any day.

MAB is mobile, makes a clean first pass, and plays with a lot of heart.

unfortunately, he’s like -8 or something – and that’s a big number for 5 games.

since spacek is out, I expect JM will keep Hamrlik in at defence.

MAB might still play on the 4th line forward and the power play.

  6. KenD29 says:

Jimmy, The Habs had only 1 call up opporunity left as long as the BullDogs are still in the playoffs (and they are going inot the next round which means at least another 4 games for them). The Habs would not have brought Subban up for him to sit in the pressbox! He will be in the lineup tonight and taking regular shifts!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  7. mrhabby says:

he is going to start for sure…JM has little choice the way i see it.

  8. jimmy shaker says:

I’ll just wait for the press release or JM’s presser to confirm if PK’s in and who’s out.

    Thanks though,

  9. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

dude – unless PK is injured or sick after today’s practice, he is playing.

how much he plays – that’s another story.

  10. mrhabby says:

since the habs have 1 recall left in the bank i guess they decided why not use it up as it could be the end of the the season tonight. might as well use all the weapons they have.

  11. jimmy shaker says:

Before we jump the gun here, let’s wait and see if JM even pencils him in.  PG called him up, but it’s up to JM to use him or not.  He played last night, then had to travel.  I know he’s young, but that’s still a full plate for anyone.  He could just be here to soak up the atmosphere and take it all in, so we’ll wait and see how things progress during the day.  If he does play, I hope Hammer will sit, but more than likely it will be MAB…. that will suck as President of his fan club but it is the only logical choice.

  12. KenD29 says:

No need for coffee… he’s young and will be working off Adrenaline feeding off the crowd tonight too!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  13. Habscore says:

Stubbs confirmed it throu Twitter, Ian!!
“PK skating with Habs this morning, but he isn’t meeting the media, according to team.”

    — YES HABS CAN!! —

  14. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

once its on TSN and RDS it is confirmed.

  15. KenD29 says:

Chile, this was reported about 30 minutes ago.

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  16. notbigbird says:

But if he stands out …

  17. Laramy87 says:

Notice in both incidents it was a cowardly European pushing a Canadian D-man into the boards. Ovie on Campbell, Hossa on Hamhuis… Both dirty, and the fact Hossa scored the winner made it even worse. Trots and Poile are prolly livid this morn with the no suspension

  18. DraftBeer says:

team 990 is confirming what team 990 said? lol!

  19. longtimehabsfan says:

Marinaro just confirmed on Team990.  PK recalled.

  20. Clay4bc says:

I thought you were BS’ing, but it seems it’s true. Interesting development…

Don’t argue with an idiot; people watching may not be able to tell the difference.

  21. Ian Cobb says:

I would sure like to see Stubbs or someone here confirm or deny the PK story. If true, they better pour a ton of coffee into the kid after the team party last night.!!!

  22. KenD29 says:

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  23. Laramy87 says:

TSN also just confirmed PK was called up…. Oh i wonder what jacques gonna do… MAB is great on the powerplay, but taking a forward roster spot for him???? I hope JM keeps O’Bryne isn, he has been playing great and we need his big body back on d as well

  24. lavie says:

So we will see the Super Pair tonight: Gill-Subban!

  25. dpthehabsfan says:

The Montreal Canadiens have recalled defenceman PK Subban from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

The Canadiens face elimination tonight at the hands of the
Washington Capitals in Game Six of their Eastern Conference
    quarterfinal series.

Subban had 53 points in 77 games with a plus-minus rating of 46 in
the regular season. In two games with the Canadiens this season, Subban
has two assists, including one on the power play.

Subban had nine points in six games as the Bulldogs eliminated the
Manitoba Moose last night in the first round of the Calder Cup
playoffs. The second of the AHL playoffs begins in Hamilton on Thursday.

  26. chilehabfan says:

PK SUBBAN has been called up!!!

  27. nunacanadien says:

I know it is important the rookies on the Dogs get their trophy, but honestly, the pro team Habs exist just so Gainey can have a farm team?  Since when did the Molsons allow this?

  28. arcosenate says:

    it’s true, that’s wild.

    he will help.

  29. nunacanadien says:

Everyone in Montreal cheer on the might mites!  Let’s give Gomez the energy he needs, let’s give Gionta the roar of the crowd and make him fearless and stand up to the Washington Crapitals, let’s send Ovechkin to where he needs to go, off season and getting a steroid test from that old Montrealer Pound….

  30. jimmy shaker says:

I’d go Subban for Hammer, but that’s just me.  We’ll have to wait and see if he’s even going to be in the lineup after playing yesterday, and then travelling.  Maybe JM and PG just got him here to soak in the atmosphere.  We’ll have to wait and see if JM pencils him in!

  31. shootdapuck says:

  32. mike g says:

BTW guys, you know what really sucks? The fact that our favorite sport is also the most poorly run sport in the history of pro sports…

How Chara isn’t suspended is beyond me. The instigator rule clearly says “any player who instigates a fight in the last 5 minutes of a game will be automatically suspended for 1 game.” Anyone who saw the incident clearly knows that Chara knew what he was doing and obviously instigated a fight with 3 Sabres players. How he was not suspended is disgusting, unacceptable and just plain NHL dumb…

Same goes for Hossa. I like Marian as a player, he’s alright. But what he did deserves a suspension. Players all know not to do that, especially when players are going that fast. The rule apparently says that “if any head or facial injuries occur, a suspension will be imposed”. Are they serious? Does the NHL really think they are fooling anyone? That rule basically says you can decapitate a player and break his arms, shoulder, and leg without getting suspended for that play. BUT, if he suffers an injury to his face like broken teeth or something, you will be suspended.

Seriously guys, it’s sad to say it but the NHL is a joke. It’s a league run by untouchable businessmen. Whatever they say goes, no arguing. Even though it may never make sense, they do the complete opposite of the obvious. A 2 year old can often make better decisions than they do, yet we just act like puppets and take it. It’s disgusting and I’ve had enough of these horrible decisions…

Like Roenick once said “WAKE UP NHL, WAKE UP”….

  38. jimmy shaker says:

Man, I was way off.   I’ll go eat some humble pie now.  But as President of the MAB fan club, I’d get PK in there and let MAB watch from above.  I’d still sit Hammer over MAB, because he’s been the worse of the two, but I don’t think JM will bench Hammer.  But I hope PK can do his thing and help the PP.  Interesting to see where JM slots him!

  39. shootdapuck says:

He isn’t going to play anywhere else why waste a roster spot?

    Subban in and MAB out!

  44. HFX-HabFan says:

If the Subban rumours are in fact true, John Carlson is going to be disappointed that McGuire won’t be gushing over him as the “kid who’s gonna be a great defenseman in this league for a long time”.

  45. Ian Cobb says:

That would show real class if they would make that move! Think about it for a minute. Take away one of the main cogs in the wheel of Hamilton’s run at their cup race. What would that say to the rest of the players and fans throughout the whole organisation.!!!

  48. 4loorplay says:

Good point, but momentum is whats its all about at this stage. Remember we were winning game 2 4-1 with 2 min in the 2nd…then poof that goal to make it 4-2 killed us and lasted 3 games. A lucky bounce here and there and it was a 3 game win streak for the caps. I would much rather have played back to back games. I know its easy to say but when the wind is in your sails you move.

Lets hope we have a good game tonight, If PK is gonna be in the line up it would be nice if he makes an impact.

    Go habs go

For some strange reason, this years playoffs don’t feel like they usually do for me.

I was nervous and anxious for the 1st 3 games of this series, after that I just watched but I didn’t have that naught in my stomach. Last game though, when the Caps were pressing late, that feeling of “omg we have to win” came back…

Hopefully it can carry over for tonight…

“These head movies make my eyes rain” -Simple Jack

  57. jimmy shaker says:

I think it was to our advantage, as our 4D and only 3 forward lines touched the ice in the 3rd period last game.  Those guys needed that extra day for sure to get their legs and wind back.  JM can’t go to that well again tonight if the situation presents itself.  I mean he can go to that system, but not as early as he did last game.  I’d say with about 10 – 12 minutes to go, if we’re leading, then he can shorten the bench again.  But for the most part I think the 6D and 12 forwards are all going to have to be a part of tonights win, if we do get the W.

  58. Instant Karma says:

Score a couple early again and play for 60 minutes boys! Don’t let up!

  59. 4loorplay says:

Both teams had an extra days rest….This may be to the caps advantage being the momentum was on our side. 1 game at a time and whoever gets the lucky bounces tonight will win. IMO

  60. jimmy shaker says:

MAB, Pyatt, Lapierre, Pouliot, SK74, Metro, Moore and Jaro all playing for contracts next year.  If these boys show up and have huge games/efforts, than we’ll be talking to you Wednesday night from the District of Columbia in what should be a memorable game 7!

  61. habsfan_61 says:

have to go at them hard and early. put the seed of doubt into them and keep plugging away.

  62. madmat411 says:

You know, no matter what, I think it’s pretty epic for the habs to maske this series exciting. Win or Lose. It has been entertaining. Especially tonights being the the (maybe) Do or Die game. I mean, lose tonight we are finished, win tonight we tie the series. As i said, No matter what, it has been a very entertaining series. And as in the article by Mio above, no-one expected the habs to even be this far. THANK YOU HABS FOR GIVING EVERYTHING YOU HAVE, AND AN ENTERTAINING END OF THE SEASON! GO HABS GO!

  63. wmarcello says:

Definitely going to be a tough one tonight. Gill and Gorges need to be on top of their game once again (and willing to play 25+ minutes). This pairing has the capability of giving Ovechkin fits… I’m just skeptical of whether they can play those big minutes again. Markov and OB have to be huge as well. Expect to see Markov on the ice for about half the game and OB for 17-20 minutes. Hopefully Spacek is feeling better, but I’m not holding my breath. If he’s not, MAB and Hammer just need to play safe hockey and keep the 3rd and 4th lines off the scoreboard. PLEASE can you do that?! And of course Halak needs to be great once again, preferably with run support!

    Go Habs!

  64. W35T5ID3 says:

no wwoorrries….we gon’ win da cup!

  65. alexspencer says:

Isn’t it a 6 game losing streak at home in post season? 2 this year, 2 last year and 2 in 2008? We beat the Flyers at home in game 1 that year.

  66. J.J. of Turku says:

I’m expecting we to play all the seven games… The way I see series; it looks like WSH has needed (and got some) a little help from the refs and we’ve been the better Team. Their “South Least”-division hasn’t prepare them to play at the limits night after night…

    Go Habs, Go!!

  67. Lancer says:

Habs have the Caps thinking! One more win and the caps won’t know what to do! Looking forward to that. Keep up that positive energy.

  68. N.B.habs fan says:

Boudreau = .500 winning percentage as a coach in the NHL (Playoffs).

Montreal was the last team to come back from a 3-1 series down and win.

Home losing steak has to end sometime!

So, things are looking pretty good!  The calm before the strom, I love it!

  70. emann_222 says:

Man – I just witnessed the TSN Habs Caps Game 6 Preview … and I don’t know if they are sure what team is playing against the Capitols. All I heard was Ovie, Semin, Backstrom … blah blah blah!!! And then there was the STOOOOPID comment “It’s a rare day in Montreal when you don’t wake up asking “Who’s going to be in net tonight?'”.They even had the audacity to say that the reason Halak was successful in Game 5 was because second string Cap players couldn’t finish their plays. Did they see the replay of Halak stonewalling them?

All I can say is – I’m dying to see what they do for the Game 7 Habs v Caps Preview. Maybe a touch more respect!

I say put PK in. He’s just what we need another rushing defenseman to help Marky, and as the Caps know very little about him, he brings an element of surprise the Habs way also.

Here’s hoping for a victory for the blu balnc rouge and a game 7….GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Habs have to continue their intensity. So far so good.

PK plays one playoff game and they are already chanting his name, I love It!

Great Period.  Caps don’t know what hit them, and at times look like they are all ready on their way home.

It’ll take more goals to beat these guys tonight, but it’s looking good so far.

  75. deuce6 says:

IDK..Halak had to make some really great saves to keep them off the board..We did come up large on that 5 on 3 against and Varlamov should have had both of those goals, but we are up and I will take it..

Our goaltending has to stand on their heads to pull this off, but I like our intensity..

    PK looked solid…

  76. terrygain says:

Great first period! Second period, outshot 11-0.

  77. slapshot777 says:

I ask you is Cammy money or what? I mean two beautiful goals. Anyone think he will get a hat trick? It would be nice to have two Habs with a hat trick in a series.

    5 goals and 4 assists = 9 points.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  78. slapshot777 says:

As long as the Habs continue to skate and take the man and not let them free wheel we will be alright. That two man disadvantage was a HUGE kill. Again Hamrlik finds ways to hamper the team.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  79. lavie says:

Offense is the best Defense, JM.

  80. terrygain says:

“back it goes to Hamrlik” …SIREN  …Sigh of relief.

  81. deuce6 says:

I don’t understand why JM won’t get PK out there with Markov on the PP..The guy has a boat load of skill and a rocket for a shot, but yet he keeps going back to Marc-I can’t keep the puck in-Andre Bergeron…Sure he has a cannon, but PK has som much more playmaking ability..

Halak is nothing less than spectacular, but we can’t keep playing with fire over and over again..We HAVE to score an early one and hopefully, put this one away..

  82. terrygain says:

14 hit Halak in the back of the head in that goal mouth melee, with impunity.  With such a small team we need a couple of policemen. In the meantime it wouldn’t hurt if the coach would throw a temper tantrum so we can get better refereeing. It works for everyone else.

  83. homerbowen says:

3rd period…stay out of the box.

Look out because the Caps will throw everything at us in the 3rd.

Back check and hustle no weak shifts and just maybe we’ll make it to Game #7

  84. terrygain says:

    1. They haven’t practiced together.

    2. They would have to switch sides for one-timers to work.

    3. 79 and 47 have had a lot of success.

  85. deuce6 says:

“Let’s get these teams back on the ice for the 3rd period..I can’t wait to see what the Caps throw at the Canadiens..” – Darren Dreger..

Why would TSN hand pick our series just to have biased morons take shots like this? Don’t bite the hand that feeds you, dummies..

  86. deuce6 says:

Jaro did his own policing..Didn’t catch the butt end to the stomach by Halak, eh?

  87. 23 HABS 23 says:

What a playoff showing for PK Subban!  WOW!!!!!

How about Halak – #1 Star in my opinion so far – some AMAZING / RIDICULOUS Saves!

Kostitsyn has been great as well – great pressure (laying the body in offensive zone) and great back-checking!

Cammalleri – what more can you ask  –  2 Goals!  Hats off to him – hopefully in the 3rd if you know what I mean!  :~)

Great to see the Canadiens play as a team!  Looking forward to the 3rd – GO HABS GO!!!!

I hate Brunet and his ridiculous views on our players… I wish RDS would fire him ASAP!!!

So, I’m thinking of starting a new religion: The Loyal Followers of Jaroslav Halak.

    WHO’S WITH ME BOYS?!?!?!?!

    Game 7, here we come.

  107. slapshot777 says:

I think tonight the ghost have finally come over to the Bell Centre. In the meantime. I give Halak all the credit in the world for us having a game 7

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  108. tricolore says:

The team played its heart out tonight. That was one of the best performances from a Habs goalie I have seen since, well, 1993. For those of you too young to remember or having not seen any of it, back in 1993 our goalie from Ste-Foy, did what you saw tonight, 16 times. Those are the kind of saves that need to be made to keep your team competitive and inspired. Bravo Halak!

No doubt the Caps are bigger, faster, and more skilled….but….the Habs wanted it more…however, Halak was inhuman tonight. We took the best team in the NHL to game 7. Can’t ask for more from our 8th place team.

Go Habs Go! Vive le tricolore!

Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side.

  109. habsguy says:

Ya you said it ,  along with 1/2 the other people here !!!!!!!…….LOLOLOL

I’m finally changing my username its now going to be JACKTODDSUCKS!

  113. slapshot777 says:

I think if you look closely enough, even Carey Price came to Halak with a big smile and shook his head, as if to say increditable, Jaro.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  114. DONJUAN says:

Don’t look now the underdog mighty mouse Montreal Canadiens are forcing the best team in the NHL to game 7.  Halak was out of his mind tonight the habs need 1 more like that to finish this.  GO HABS GO!!!

     In HABS we trust.

  118. andrewberkshire says:

    Better glove? HA.

  119. andrewberkshire says:

Actually he’d have to win 4 cups and 3 Conn Smythe’s, along with 151 playoff wins. No one is Roy.

  120. joe-hab-nuno says:

    who finally came?

  121. Harditya_CareyPrice says:

Let’s not carry ourselves – with class, I understand but better glove..

  122. slapshot777 says:

Even after this win tommorrow, that jackass Todd will still find something crappy to write about.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  123. Thomas says:

Those bloody ref’s did everything they could to give the Caps the win, but guess what?  We can’t be stopped!!!

    Lapierre, great game

    Subban, great game

    Cammalleri, great game

  124. Habsone says:

    Wow!!!! Halak!!!!

  125. habsguy says:

did anyone see the slash by Ovie on the last goal, did you see the refs arm go up…Nope!!!!

  126. lenny says:

    carey who????

  127. Castor says:

Ive decided that I’m going to dump on anyone who gets on Price….and I’m a HALAK guy from LAST YEAR. I’ve said Halak all the way last year…. but stop the freaking Price bashing

  128. Cam_1 says:

Why mention Carey at all….did you see him at the end of the game..he was some happy…he was probably happier for Halak then you were….he is a team player and in his back up role all he can do is support the guys. Leave him alone main..give of his back already…yes Halak is better …but Price is still developing and will reach his potential one day…until then he is supporting Halak…so maybe you should support both goalies.

Halak was indeed a Monster tonight…the Caps are bewildered. Hail-ak !!!

  129. steadyjake says:

3 diving calls!? are you kidding me? That’s called maybe twice a season! And the Obyrne interference late in the game was BS — the puck was right there under their feet.

    Refs were horrible.

  130. Storm Man says:

Lets all pray that Chris Lee does not ref game 7

  131. Habsone says:

    I agree!!!  The refs tried!!!

  132. dre1744 says:

they better keep PK up for the next game.  I will be pissed if they send him down.

Why can’t Maxim always play like he did tonight  minus the 2 diving stunts…..

  133. Connecticut Man1 says:

Dang! He looked good on the team.

  134. Connecticut Man1 says:

    ’71 <<<<

Knock off the favorites and it is a
Cinderella story waiting to be written. Damn that was some solid play
from Halak and resulting in some seriously shook up Caps shooters that
are missing the barn in front of them when it is there. 53 saves in
    regulation time. A record, no?

And I think we may have a slim
advantage in Washington for game 7? Nothing to lose and everything to
gain, so to speak, and we have won more games there against them this
year than they have against us.

  135. Mikey_39 says:

WOw horrible reffing…I hope it’s not the same on wednesday night.  But I hope our team plays the same because this was a SICK game!  I can’t remember being this happy in a long time.  I have a stupid final exam wednesday night tho!!!!

  136. Merc_Roswell says:

Lets scram before the cops come!!!

    Yay Habs!

  137. dre1744 says:

every year there needs to be the big upset    so this year its gonna be the Habs upsetting the Caps!!!!!

  138. matmacat says:

    same here. geol206?

  139. Merc_Roswell says:

    Giants will fall.

  140. habs03 says:

To me the biggest moment of the game was that 5-3, if they score and make it 2-1 its a different ending to the game, great job by Plecks and Georges and specially Gill, all year this Gill has been the whipping boy by fan!!

  141. joe-hab-nuno says:

Ya, thank god San Jose passed the 1st round

  142. SuperStarz says:

This is what’s gotta go next game and for the future
sit pouliot – something off with him (injured, not liking the playoffs something…)
Bring down Sergie Kostityn from the press box
Get mab off the ice and hope that spacek is better next game
and make sure hamrlik doesn’t play that much
    …Plan the parade!!!!!!!!

  143. MikeMcphee says:

You can check my posts. I’ve been saying Halak is the man forever.
Btw- Jack Todd is the best. He tells it like it is, if you don’t like that just
    read the Journal de Montreal.

  144. Ton says:

anyone have the number of penalities for each team. It had to be lopsided. that could explain the being outshot large.

  145. dre1744 says:

damn if we could of held on to that lead in game 2  we would be getting ready to face Pittsburge right now!!!!!!

  146. mrhabby says:

pressure is all on the caps not the habs..we took them to 7…its all on there ass.

great game by all players a very, very positive win for the future of  this organization.

  147. SuperStarz says:

what about the sabers and the devils those were also big upsets

  148. adam76 says:

How foolish does this team look for not calling up P.K. before game 6?  How foolish does this team look for starting that SATALLION Price for game 4?

In halak we trust, all others pay cash.  Win game 7, bring on the PENS.

  149. dre1744 says:

  150. Olay Olay Olay says:

I hope HBO picks up the Halak show for a couple of seasons. I think I could get into it.

    Couple of points.

    • HALAK!! I haven’t seen something like that since the Roy days.

    • Lapierre! Great effort but you did dive …once.

    • P.K! Making me eat my words and they taste great.

    • Some of the worst officiating I have ever seen! Gionta doesn’t dive period.

    • HALAK!!! I had to say it again.

  151. TPlow says:

    St. Jaro.

  153. Olay Olay Olay says:

not as big as this will be

  155. deuce6 says:

Geebus..Jaro seen more rubber than a cheap

I hope he has some left in the tank for game 7 because the Caps will be coming out strong…

Who would have thought that we would hold the Caps to 2 goals in 6 periods and be going to game 7 after losing game 4? Wow..I love the character this team has..It’s all about digging deep when you are getting badly outplayed..

  156. benhab says:

had Price not started, Halak would have never gotten the rest needed to be able to rip it up like he is now

  157. Newf_Habster says:

Halak has moved past Justin Bieber in the trending catergory on Twitter!

  158. CHCanadien says:

Halak it!  Halak it a lot!

  159. deuce6 says:

JM? I hope you are kidding..We get outshot a million to 19 and JM gets the pat? lol

Halak is the sole reason..No one else..He deserves 1000% of this HUGE win..

  160. dre1744 says:

All i have to say is that they better not send PK  back down to hamilton  before  wednesday!!!!!

  161. lBUSYl says:

I think they (Caps) came out strong tonight. Just HALAK was stronger! Take this formula and repeat Wednesday!

  162. Sambaguio says:

Halak is the next Roy! Price is the next Theodore!

  163. terrygain says:

Despite McGuire’s stupid meme, which a lot of people fell for, the turning point of this series is when the dumb coach started 20 who has been as steady as a rock and has given us some size in our end, besides Gill, who has also been terrific.Having the comfort of the big body 20 hammering people in the corner and in front of the net has enabled 79 to elevate his game.  20’s puck handling has also been superb.

  164. Sambaguio says:

    Agree in all points!!!

Halak is the next Roy! Price is the next Theodore!

  165. habssince1909 says:

No matter what happens in Game 7 I will still be proud for the never-say-die attitude these guys brought tonight.  What a show by Halak and Company!!!  WOW

GO HABS GO – bring the mighty Caps DOWN………make Ovi CRY….

  166. ZimHabwe says:

    That’s fine.

It’s only 200 level. You only need half a day to study plus a good memory and you’ll kick ass. But for now, just crack open a beer and rejoice. We’re going to game 7!

  167. MontrealAtheist says:

The Habs did not win because of JM, they won despite JM.

  168. dallyd31 says:

Price needed to play.  Jaro was burnt out and had played two stinkers.  It was an easy call.

  169. joe-hab-nuno says:

I personally think it was a good choice to start Price that game. I would have don the same think last year after Price lost the first 2 games and put Halak.

  170. MontrealAtheist says:

Let’s knock out the Caps on Wednesday and get ourselves a good old-fashioned Habs-Bruins semi-final in the East !!!

  171. adamg84 says:

Did you know that the caps have lost 3 or more games in a row, six times this season.  Lets make it seven on wednesday night.

  172. goinforstanley says:

Halak Halak Halak!!!!!!!!!!!! game 7 here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go Habs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Go Halak Go!!!!!!!!!!

the Habs are winning this series.Hadn’t seen goaltending like that since Roy.  41  33  53 saves

  173. Off-side says:

I’m NOT kidding.  I’m no huge JM fan but he DID bring in PK, he DID not sit MAB for a long time and Hammer.  So…I may be wrong but he must be doing SOMETHING right.  I suppose it’s just that I don’t like to see a person being crushed as JM was on this site and who knows where else.  He is our coach afterall, and I’m simply old-fashioned enough to have that kind of respect.  ‘nough said.

  174. Maffu says:

If we win we face Pittsburgh.

  175. ThirtyThree says:

PK looked like he was made for this. Ding ding ding – the kid’s ready.

HALAK, another “kid,” is damn impressive. He will need to do the same thing on Wednesday.

    Game se7en baby cakes!

  176. Bill J says:

    How’s Subban doin ?

  177. Habscore says:

    — YES HABS CAN!! —

  178. matmacat says:

Yea, I plan on studying the day of, but the fact remains that the exam period is from 7pm to 10pm.

  179. HFX-HabFan says:

O’Byrne has really picked it up since Martin decided to get him back into the lineup.  He actually had more minutes than Gill tonight, even while picking up 4 PIM.

  180. LesFleurs says:

I thought we played the winner of the Devils/Flyers series?

  181. terrygain says:

No. We were on our heels all night. Halak stole another game. He deserves credit for starting Halak in Game 5 but if we don’t play a 4th line, I think we will run out of gas. He needs to reunite the top line ( Pouliot played really well tonight), put 40 on the 4th line where he belongs, play the speedy  74 and reunite him with 42 and 32.

We could have won this series already if the coach hadn’t sat 20 for the first 4 games and if he hadn’t played 44 and 13 in the last 2 minutes of game 2 when we were trying to protect the lead.

I don’t blame him for playing Darche. It’s one of the mysteries of the universe why the intelligent, normally steady Darche threw that soft clearing attempt up the middle when we were ahead 4-1 in game 2. It is his fate to have made that play and I really feel for him. He played so well when called up.

  182. Bill J says:

Agree sorta, but at same understand the mentality of the organization to allow PK to have a long run, once the Dogs got the first round. Was a easy choice.  Call it perfect timing.  Although…  Your point likely being, if PK was this good and the Habs where struggling, what is more important.

The Price game 4 – was bad timing on the reverse side for Price.

The fans wanted him to succeed, and he was really heading in the right direction.  But he was quite obviously far too rusty, and certainly not “in” the game.  Another story, that does not have to be talked about till…. How bout after the playoffs lol…

The Backup no matter who it was, had to play that game.  To get Halak back in the game, and he is BACK!!!

  183. Merc_Roswell says:

True, but  habs lost game 2 because Caps played a little better than habs and habs didn’t keep pushing the pedal to the medal (for a lack of hockey analysis) for a full 60  minutes.

Just think though, if the habs eliminate the Caps, everybody
(besides us here) will “hate” the habs, even the NHL would because the
habs  would be denying everyone of a rematch of last years matchup
between the Caps and Pens which would have been huge ratings (in Canada
anyway) and preventing Ovie from scoring more high lite reels.

anyway, better not get ahead of myself and focus on game 7.

    Go Habs!~

  184. terrygain says:

For once, an atheist who makes sense.

  185. terrygain says:

All 3 dives were good calls. 40 is an embarrassment. Fate dictates he gets to play again. On the 3rd line yet.

  186. Bill J says:

Flyers won it, they are not ranked higher then the Penguins.

    ranking weighs to the finals.

So yeah, the reward is Crosby/Malkin & Co.  lol Jaro is on fire at the RIGHT time! 😀

  187. joe-hab-nuno says:

we were last seed so we always play the highest seed left, or the higest seed plays lowest seed left :)

  188. terrygain says:

I don’t think  it was a bad call to play 31 in game 4. Jaro needed a rest.  The big mistakes were  not playing 20, in particular,  and 74 and breaking up the 1st and 3rd lines. ( 57 had 15 goals in 39 games).  40 is strictly a 4th liner.

Other obvious mistakes are playing 44 and 47 in the 3rd period and 13 in the last 2 minutes. 13 is a great player but very weak defensively. I don’t remember Scotty playing Cournoyer in the last 2 minutes while trying to protect the lead and I don’t remember Gainey ( Moen) being put on the 1st line with Lafleur (Gionta) and Lemaire (Gomez).

The team Bob Gainey assembled is much better than the coach he signed.

  189. terrygain says:

Something isn’t good enough. A coach must do most thinks right. Or the team will lose. I respect coach Martin’s decision to resign.

  190. terrygain says:

I didn’t think Carey looked rusty in game 4. I thought he played a typical Carey Price game. Good, but not quite good enough.

  191. terrygain says:

As I’ve explained in detail (ad nauseum) he didn’t allow any weak goals. He just didn’t stand on his head, as he often does. But the rest was very beneficial.

  192. Bill J says:

Without going to deep into it, I will counter for a goalie it is also a mental game, rusty is not a physical disrespect necessarily in this case as much as mental.

Consider the fans boo’ed him for a 3rd star.

Game 4, I believe was the first game (in Montreal) since that one … No ?

  193. idle says:

    1) there is absolutly no reason that P.K should have been called up before this game

    2) judging by the way Halak has played the last two games I don’t think it hurt him at all to sit out game 4

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  194. terrygain says:

Rock solid. Just ask Chimera. He’s been the turning point. McGuire is a moron.

  195. sh00n says:

    Just like your post.

Jaro played like scrap for two games and was tired. He needed the rest.

Can’t you guys be happy that we’re taking the best team in the league to 7 games, starting to scare them AND we’re playing great? But no, you all choose to trash the one guy on the team who didn’t even touch the ice tonight. Get over it.

  196. MontrealAtheist says:

Right, my bad … Well, at least we’d be warmed up to face the B’s in the conference final then :)

  197. MontrealAtheist says:

I don’t think JM had much to do with tonight’s win … Instead, he didn’t do much to screw it up. Heck, we were outshot badly and only had 3 shots or so in the 2nd period and if it weren’t for Halak standing on his head again we could easily have lost this match by a few goals.

  198. wotever says:

What? I have no idea what you are trying to say.

You think a coach is a politician?

You’ll have to speak up – Maybe in french?

  199. wotever says:

What? I have no idea what you are trying to say.

You think a coach is a politician?

You’ll have to speak up – Maybe in french?

  200. adam76 says:

    he played well game three.

  201. steadyjake says:

amen. And JM has to roll four and play 6 D or we are gonna be out of gas for Philly.

  202. Storm Man says:

Hell yes all four lines and 6D and step on the gas for the full 60 mins.

  203. Connecticut Man1 says:

I don’t think that Philly will get past Boston.

  204. terrygain says:

Fair enough, but please distinguish between those who dump on Carey and those who dump on the Pricebots – those who insisted Carey should play despite the fact Jaro has clearly won the job.

  205. AH says:

I said Craps in 5, with Jaro standing on his head in one game. I’m eating my words tonight, and gladly so. At the end of the day, all I wanted was for them to compete and not just roll over. Well, they have done that! Taking the vaunted Craps to the 7th game is fantastic!, a win will be out of this world!! If the Habs win they’ll blow up one of my pools, but who cares!

    GO HABS GO!!!!!

  206. pablojinko says:

Epic game by Halak!!! Great game for Cammalleri!!!

I don’t know bout you, but I’m a little afraid of the numbers Jaro and his “superstar” agent are going throw on the table this summer. With Gomez and Cammy’s salaries, plus Plekanec’s new contract, things are going to be tight…

I remember the first day of the season, when Markov went down, that many thought the season was over. Well, look at this Habs. I hope they don’t get to excited by the win, they need to stay in survival mode, thinking they’re the underdogs trying to surprise the hockey world this season.

     As Seen In Montreal

  207. Hamayoune says:

I don’t care how much he asks for, so far he’s been playing like a superstar so let the contract issue for the GM. We are fans, and no where in the world is more exiting than Montreal today. We sign players so they can bring value, and Halak has been doing that thus I don’t see why your worrying about future contract negotiations. Cheer dude!

  208. Hamayoune says:

  209. idle says:

He is restricted so they won’t be able to get too carried away.  I am sure he will get a nice reward for his play that will be fair to both him and the team.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  210. terrygain says:

My beloved Boullion’s 750K compared with  Hamrlik’s 5.5 million is looking sadder all the time.

  211. homerbowen says:

Maybe now Edmonton, St Louis & LA will be serious bidders for Halak. We package him with Hammer & Gomez and then we can get serious about playoff advancement.

Great effort tonight I hope there’s gas left in the tank on Wednesday. While we won the game we were clearly on our heels for the later part of the game.

Can you imagine the pressure the Caps will lay on next game. We must stay out of the box to have a chance.

  212. Mattyleg says:

You’re clearly on a great amount of drugs, so I won’t make fun of you.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  213. Harditya_CareyPrice says:

    Halak’s not going anywhere.

  214. PKSubb-a-man says:

That was the worst thing I have ever read.  haha . . . brutal

  215. terrygain says:

Homer,  after tonight you deserve the appellation Pricebot. Even Bill J might agree.

  216. kempie says:

don’t look now but these guys are scaaaaaaared!. i mean we were supposed to win this in 4 right? we were supposed to win this on friday right? we can win this on wednesday right? right? we’re supposed to win the cup right? didn’t we win the president’s trophy? yep it’s the kiss of death.

    st. jaro

  217. Corio says:

    Wow way to go guys!

    Halak you are INSANE!

  218. DavidKB says:

    I love Canadiens hockey!!

    Wednesday night…Gold medal…USA/Canadiens!!!

  219. salshabs says:

Awesome, game for Jaro, I think he may have just bought Carey a ticket out of town. I hate to see it happen, but, after a game like tonight, the writing has got to be on the wall. Jaro, shades of Saint Patrick.

Even AK46 looked stoked tonight…you know, for him.

Cammy, what can you say, heart of a LION. Streaky goal scorer, or what? Keep that streak alive Dude…

Anyone who moaned and groaned about Gill this year, myself included (maybe once), should just shut the f*%k up!! The guys a full blown maniac on the PK. Along with Josh Georges. BTW, my pick for Captain. He plays twice his size, every game!

Speaking of PK…he has to stay to the end, whenever that may be, sorry Dogs.  The kids got monster balls…held his own tonight.

Shots on goal aside…and we all know that shot totals can be a tad misleading…it’s been glaringly obvious, since the beginning of this series, the Caps are extremely vulnerable defensively. The Habs took full advantage of that fact. They just have to continue exploiting that weakness, one more time, then it’s off to Pittsburgh. GO Habs!

  220. habaholic68NJ says:

Carey is not going anywhere.  He will be backing up Halak next year, unless  he can win back the number 1 job.  We will not move any goalie until after the trading deadline next year.

  221. idle says:

    I second Gorges for captain.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  222. terrygain says:

Good post but the snide comment regarding AK is unwarranted. I like Gorges and Gionta but my choice for Captain is Gill.

  223. Morocco says:

I have to admit, the last two games have finally made Halak more valuable then Price in my eyes.

And my favorite part of tonights game? Ovechkin’s two (1.5? I don’t remember the second one that well) breakaways.

  224. Ian Cobb says:

Jacques Martin’s game plan worked to perfection.

What a coach, letting Washington stay in our end all night firing pucks to keep Halak warm and supple. While the Capital’s goal tender stiffened up from no work and cold. It was like pick-en cherries!

We will get rid of these guys on Wednesday night and get ready for a long series with Crosby and the Pens.

Love it when a plan comes together.

Now everyone knows,!! that this team is much better than most people thought. Entertainment and thrills are back in town boys and girls.

Still scared that Martin shortens his bench to much.

  225. Ayan_SB says:

JM wanted the Caps to at least 45 shots on Halak. That’s when he becomes a Super Saiyan.

  226. VancouverHab says:

We’re the only team whose fans moan about a 4-1 win pushing the league powerhouse to game 7….

  227. idle says:

Sorry Ian, your Martin’s system posts are getting a bit old.  Martin doesn’t actually get to play you know.  He can preach whatever he wants to the players but it is their job to execute.  There are also 3 other coaches on the bench too.  When it’s game 6 and your facing elimination and the pressure is on you can pretty much throw any ‘system’ or game plan out the f’ing window, the players are simply reacting.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  228. joe-hab-nuno says:

Someone asked about the penalty diff between both teams:

                      mtl                     wash

    Game1         6                         8

    Game2         11                       11

    Game3         24                      10      Gomez had a 10 min misconduct

    Game4         6                        6

    Game5         8                         10

    Game6       14                          12

    total            69                         57

So taking away Gomez’s misconduct it’s pretty even surprisenly.

  229. Habs1st says:

I, for one, complained about the officiating early on.  Especially game 2.  The Caps got away with a lot in game 2.  Two of the non-calls resulted in Caps goals.

I am surprised that is that close though (excluding Gomez’s misconduct penalty).  I’m still happy he stuck up for himself, his team and his goaltender though!

  230. adam76 says:

Stop using facts a logic please!

  231. DavidKB says:

Yeah, I moaned about Gill…but I shut up long ago. No need to get ugly!

  232. KC64 says:

YESSSS!!!! A huge win by the boys and we even beat the douchebag officiating, three diving calls??????? What game were these clowns watching? The officiating gets worse every game.

  233. Psycho29 says:

Where is that member who said Hal Gill was the worse player on the planet???? (I think it was even in his profile)

Gill has been incredible on defence……

GAME 7 BOYS AND GIRLS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  234. Bill J says:

Holy Mackerel – I have a twin! lol

  235. Black Jacques Halak says:

I didn’t see Halak’s arm “shaking”, did you?  Ha ha ha ha ha ha YEAH BABY!

  238. Dennis says:

I’ve seen goaltending since Plante, and that was one of the best displays I can remember.

  239. DavidKB says:

Yeah, but you’ve been wearing the “sweater” longer…might have to pull an O’Byrne.

  240. dre1744 says:

    Jaro Halak you are ridiculous!!!!!!!

  241. Bill J says:

  242. Eliisa says:

Unbelievable.  There are no words. Halak is a god.

  243. Hamayoune says:

I’ve been a fan since I was 6, and never have I seen better goaltending than today. I mean I was yelling out of my lungs and nobody at home even dared ask me to quiet down. Today has been one of the greatest days ever!

ps: I cancelled my shift today and I didnt regret it one bit.

ps: Gill and Gorges played a great, great game

ps: Subban kept his game simple, and was exiting to watch. Good good things are awaiting you kiddo

    ps: Kuddos to Cammy

ps: Even Carey was happy today!

ps: There’s been lots of ps’s and I’m gonna call it a day!

  244. Rudy says:

I have an extra ticket to game 7 if anyone can make it to DC for Wednesday.

  245. Drive_For_25 says:

How about OUR Canadiens de Montreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How about OUR HABS!!!!!!!  How about OUR Jaro Halak!!!!!!  Are we in Boudreau’s FAT head or what?!?!?!  WOW!!!!  That’s all I can muster at this point…..WOW!!!!  Hope I can eat a solid meal to have some energy for Wednesday night, gonna be wild.

    GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    P.S:  P.K Subban

  246. idle says:

2 of those calls were very well deserved.  If you want to consider someone a douchebag might I suggest Lapierre?  Gionta’s was a bad call and any ref should know that it’s not in Gionta’s makeup to dive.  The spill just looked so ridiculous but that can happen when you lose your balance.

Lapierre should be suspended if not by the league then by the team.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  247. HabsoluteFan says:

After the game. Halak said he stole the game like Theo did in 2004 against the Bruins.  When noticed about Halak’s comments, Theo said : ”Did you say Jaroslav Roy ? oohhhh Jaroslav Halak, okok…”

    Go Habs Go !!!!

On december 18th, in the middle of a 5 game losing streak, this guy said the habs would turn it around and make the playoffs.

  248. Hamayoune says:

This was terrible, terrible officiating tonight. At one point, I was asking myself if NHL tells these guys to give out penalties to spice up the games, or is it just the referees. But you know what, tonight we were winners, and lets leave officiating for losers to debate over (Caps, cough cough Caps)

  249. kempie says:

so if the hawks are eliminated, will hossa demand to be traded to whomever wins the cup this year? lol what a mook

  250. 123456 says:

send me a note, i can drive there from NY to watch game 7!!!!

  251. jkirk says:

    From Washington Times:

If Washington loses [Game 7], it certainly would go up as one of the all-time ugly collapses by the franchise — one that has had some epic ones in past seasons — as the team would have squandered a commanding 3-1 series lead against an eighth-seeded opponent that didn’t qualify for the postseason until their final game of the season.

Halak is the next Roy! Price is the next Theodore!

  254. 123456 says:

have you ever neem hit from behind a foot from teh wall? that could have been a 5 minute boarding penalty.

In one hockey pool I had first pick out of 13 people and took Ovi, Knuble and 2 other Washington players thinking maybe 5 games, I would gladly lose my 4 players( plus the 3 Buffalo players I lost) and have the HABS take the caps down.

The Other Pool I’m in I took 4 HAbS.

    Go HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  256. Eliisa says:

Lucky something anyway… I was wearing my Halak shirt, jersey, earrings and socks. You can’t be too careful on games like these, can you? That was the most exciting game. It just felt good. Everyone was talking about how crazy it was to be split with the Caps at 1-1. I didn’t think it was all that ridiculous. 3-3? Now that is amazing.

  257. kempie says:

this pouliot guy who plays for nashville… any relation?

  258. idle says:

Try watching the replay again, not as a Habs fan, but as an objective viewer.

  262. Rainrocket16 says:

A Great day in Habs land!! What a great display of goaltending.. I have not seen a Habs goalie like that since……You know who! Jaro is a beast! Mt. KilamanJARO!!!  One more fellas, One more!!

Maxim may have dove on the first call but that one in the corner was Bullsnot! Damn Conspiracy, Bettman must have made another call, to bad Jaro is pissed and wont allow such shiite!

No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.

  263. pmaraw says:

so now… is price one of the top 5 goalies in the world?  or do we leave judgment for later?

    holy moly what a goalie!

a Post Scripted point is secondary to the main point.

    he wasn’t talking about varlamov.

lets tone down your jaro inquisition, shall we?

  269. christophor says:

    yours is sambaguio, me thinks.

  270. SmartDog says:

Now I know why we won. Musta been the socks. 😉

Not signing or trading Pleks = yet another missed opportunity.

  271. wotever says:

Halak played great. Price sat on the bench ready to support the team.
Are you suggesting Price just lost the 5th top spot? Because any other comment is completely ignorant.

You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.

  272. Caballero says:

    POsitively Redonkulous

  273. Caballero says:

    lol too true too true

  274. wotever says:

Halak was awesome — awesome — tonight. But seriously: game six when you were down 3 games to 1? A big game was the 4:1 game that was lost. Game six is a _warmup_ to game seven. The big game is the clincher.

god I hope that someone can steal this, halak, someone, anyone for us!

    go halak!

You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.

  275. christophor says:

me thinks if you think i’m smart, then somethings wrong.

  276. wotever says:

I agree with you that it’s not necessarily about big games — e.g. Tonight he soared— but his consistency just begs for either less games or the competition of someone like Carey Price.

You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.

  277. Drive_For_25 says:

It wasn’t me but Gill is possibly the worst regular season player on the planet……..but who give a F#@K about regular season!!!!!!!

    Wow…I can’t believe I actually like Hal Gill now…..

  278. Drive_For_25 says:

Suspend him???  START him next game!!!

  279. pmaraw says:

W T F!!!  I like price okay, i didnt mention price, one of the HIO members has been claiming halak is a top 5 world wide goalie.  people have been arguing with him.  halak nearly shutout the caps on 54 shots, Im just wondering what their opinions are now.  stop trying to create goalie controversies cause there are none.

okay, sorry, i just re-read my original post… i meant that to say halak as top 5 goalies… not price /facepalm.

  280. wotever says:

Lol. Mistakes were made, things were said…! Halak tonight saved the canadiens Stonehenge bacon. An amazing night. Top 5? In what scope? Quite a few, maybe not every, but on his way!

Notice Theodore has a better record than him.

Sometimes I’m concerned he’ll arbitration himself outta Montreal.

You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.

  283. terrygain says:

I think you mean just before the trading deadline. Your comment is otherwise completely wrong. Carey and Roman will love the windy city. The waterfront park and the architecture  and restaurants are sensational.

  284. habaholic68NJ says:

You are correct.  I did mean before.  To much wine at and after dinner.

  285. BrianSkrudland says:

I haven’t heard anyone trying to run Hal Gill out of town lately. He has turned us all into believers!

  286. Tariq says:

yesss we proved the hockey pundits wrong, they predicted Caps would take it 4-2.

  287. lavie says:

Boudreau’s reaction of “stupid, fack” in game 5 hurt his boys. Journalists euphemized to “Shoot the puck”.

  288. Rainrocket16 says:

    Halaktric Roy!!!

No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.

  289. naweed235 says:

Dare I say that this was right there on top with the biggest of legendry goaltending performances any Habs Goalie has given us during the last 100 years?

  290. Rainrocket16 says:

Yes you dare, and yes it was one of them for sure!!

No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.

  291. arrow says:

Great exciting game from beginning to end! Even though Lapierre did dive (must take acting classes in the off season) his 1st playoff goal couldn’t have come at a better time. Heart-Attack Halak was picture-perfect, his best game ever so far, Game 7 will be better! The G-Men (Gorges/Gill) were outstanding. PK Subban added a flair of excitement and he played a great game. Sling-shot Cammi connected on 2 great goals. All in all the team played with heart.

    Game 7 here we come!

  292. Xtrahabsfan says:

Ok….I teared up at the end of the game ……..anyone else?

  293. Caballero says:

Boudreau is cracking. In other news, I think we must all admit that we did not know our team that well. It has only been a year after all and even if we lose on Wednesday I am feeling more positive and satisfied by this playoff performance than I have in the last two years.

  294. Caballero says:

I was completely shocked and overwhelmed, too happy to feel anything else right now.

  295. Rainrocket16 says:

I got teary when we scored the second goal. The Caps came out hard in the first 2 minutes! Then….

No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.

  296. lavie says:

Even Boudreau calls him Cammi. lol

  297. Jocko says:

To all you who wished me Congartas on Saturday night, thanks.  What do you know, the boys pulled off the big win for her.  Can anyone tell me the wherabouts of Hal Gill?  The big guy on the ice in the playoffs looks nothing like the guy who made me cringe in the regular season.

I don’t want to see Maurice tonight, I want to see The Rocket!

  298. MontrealAtheist says:

Boudreau has coached Cammi before, so that might explain it.

  299. Drive_For_25 says:

    Guilty…..and proud of it!!!!

  300. christophor says:

because the more you want to jump off a wagon, the harder you hit the ground.

    yes, thats how it works.

    your analogy is stellar.

also, i thought i would inform you of the good news, since you dont seem to know yet. the habs won tonight to force a game 7 in washington. cammi, lapierre, and OB had the best playoff games of their careers. and halak played the best game of his life. epic.

your comments are like bringing an electric guitar to big band night or talking on the phone during sex: celebrate whats happening and forget all else for the moment. your team and favourite goaltender’s victory should make you happier than ripping on others.

  301. Rainrocket16 says:

This team is getting better every game. No matter what happens wednesday I will still be proud of these guys! Hey we shut all the people up who say we can’t win at home in the playoffs. Damn refs are still trying to screw us though! I think we are much more disciplined now though. lets keep it up and burn all the Ney-sayers!!

  302. Caballero says:

Christ’s sake, backing one of our goalies does not make you a mindless fool. Don’t worry dude, he may not be around much longer, and Price fans should be happy for him if he gets a fresh start elsewhere.

  303. Say Ash says:

Uh, so if they win on Wednesday, PK never sees Hamilton again?

On december 18th, in the middle of a 5 game losing streak, this guy said the habs would turn it around and make the playoffs.

  305. SPATS says:

You think that was exciting? Imagine how it’ll feel if we win on Wednesday! go habs go!

  306. Caballero says:

Hey, it would be a shame for the dogs, but such is hockey.

    Next year:

    Markov and Obyrne

    Hal and Josh

    Spacek and PK

    not too shabby…

  307. pmaraw says:

is this neccessary? why dont you goto a caps forum and tell em to jump on the theo bandwagon????

  308. BrianSkrudland says:

When we win. Not if we win.

    Wednesday can’t come soon enough!

  309. j2w4habs25 says:

theres no riot in MTL tonight??

  310. Caballero says:

Huge hats off to Gorges and Gill. Methinks Gill has been teaching Gorges some moves. Love the way he was down on all fours with Gill blocking the pass. When Gorges came to town, I remember he said he was excited and ready to play. I thought right, heard that one before, but the man is a rock.

  311. crabvader says:

I’m proud of our team. Tonight’s effort was inspiring (even though it took most of it coming from Halak’s end :P).

This was a game for the ages as a Habs fan because once again, we weren’t only battling the Caps out there, we were battling the refs.

They are handing the Craps every opportunity that they can.

The first Lapierre dive I could see how you can call that but even the Versus guys were saying how the ref at the other end of the ice called it and that it was weird that they called that.

The can-opener on Gionta was just an incredibly atrocious call. There was no chance in hell Gionta dove on that play.

Had we done that to someone on the Caps, you would’ve seen only one Hab in the penalty boxes.

Tim Peel is second only to Chris Lee in bad referees. He is an embarrassment to hockey and to the NHL. It boggles my mind how the issue isn’t brought up more often because tonight’s fiasco was blatant.

We pulled through because Halak wanted the win and he didn’t care about anything else. He is a true warrior and he is doing everything he possibly can to help this team win.

I think our guys played a solid game despite all the shots against and loved the effort through 3.

I hope these refs get what’s coming to them because they are tarnishing hockey.

  312. Caballero says:

Good thinking! Get Theo in there pronto.

  313. gp52 says:

your right , refereeing was disgusting

  314. crabvader says:

What an incredibly useless comment to make.

  315. christophor says:

now you’re making your usual self look smart.

you see, i’m not like you. i don’t celebrate because of others’ misery. nor do i create misery when i want to celebrate.

i have never advocated trading halak. if thats all you got then i win this argument in 4. bring out the brooms and sweep you outta here.

  316. Say Ash says:

And thanks to Suter & Co. for chosing Jokinen instead.

  317. ManApart says:

He’s not even that bad. There are a ton of them on here who regardless of how bad Price did and how great Halak was, kept calling to play Price constantly. We all know that if JM was as foolish as them, the Habs would have started golfing a few weeks back. Where are some of them now? Eating a whole flock of Crow I figure. Smoking Aces, Bad Balance, Tomnickle, Sholi or something, Chuck, there are tons of others. They are nowhere to be seen. Gutless it seems.

  318. wotever says:

Dude. They are BOTH on the team. Cheer for both of them.

You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.

  319. Caballero says:

There are Pricebots and then there are people who have been drinking the Chocolate Milk. Sounds like someone is celebrating Halak’s victory, not the team’s eh pal?

  320. crabvader says:

“sorry if I hurt your feelings”

    Thanks for the quote.

  321. christophor says:

cammi for higgins and kotalik; no second thoughts.

also, good on sutter for locking up stajan, their number one center, for the long term.

  322. The Nine says:

To the media, and to all the blind bandwagoners who can’t form an opinion for themselves, i hope to God we take this in 7 because it’ll be the cherry on top that’ll make all this god forsaken negativity take a rest for the next 5 years.

    Since the very beginning;

“The habs are too small” “his contract is way too big” “Gill can’t skate” “

Now, win or lose, the habs have proven that they have everything it takes to contend. What they lack in size they have in heart, and what they lack in cap room they have in proven playoff performers. To this day, it blows my mind how a team like Washington with no D and questionable goaltending were supposed to “cakewalk” over the habs in 4 with great goaltending and playoff winners like gomez, gionta, moen and gill on board. It blew my mind when nobody gave this team a chance, and now i hope you’ll all have nowhere to crawl to if the habs take it in 7.

Now you can say all you want about the habs allowing 54 shots, and i’ll respond by saying that the caps were 0-7 on the powerplay. You can say that our opportunism won us this game, and i’ll ask you to refer to the rest of the series and how the caps have won despite being outplayed. Make up any excuses you want – i’ll just ask that from this point on WIN OR LOSE we stop this negativity, and support our team.

    They deserve it.

    Go Habs Go!

Take these defenseless chumps in 7, and silence the disgusting negativity in montreal for good. And to everyone else, stop the bandwagonning.

  323. MontrealAtheist says:

No matter how great Halak performs, JM never acknowledges this. How many more shots does Jaro have to stop in order for his coach to acknowledge a great performance when he sees one?

  324. Ayan_SB says:

Anybody see the Subban t-shirts around MTL today lol?

Any idea where to get one?

  325. Say Ash says:

Bettman’s pet zebras did everything they could. I haven’t seen three diving calls in, I don’t know – never?!

  326. christophor says:

he can celebrate halak’s victory too. we all have our favourites. he doesn’t seem to want that though. he’s more than satisfied with celebrating price’s back-up status.

  327. ManApart says:

Not all Price supporters were terrible, misguided maybe, but reasonable. even a hard core  Price lover like JoeyBarrie seems to have seen the light. don’t want to rub it in too much, but the garbage and abuse those guys spewed out over the past year, to people that were right and justified the whole time in what they saw from the goalies, is enough to fill  the Grand Canyon. They deserve a little gloating.

  328. crabvader says:

Yet according to TSN, ESPN, heck, even RDS, this isn’t even an issue.

The important thing is that we obviously beat them regardless and that’s the type of character we need to win, but it’s still a huge dent in hockey, in my opinion, that must be addressed and changed.

  329. Chuck says:

    Excuse me?

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  330. wotever says:

    Good question! Anyone?

You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.

  331. crabvader says:

Actually, I’ve never been one to be a Price fanatic, but found it utterly useless for people such as yourself to bash him.

Funny how you would call all these people gutless when you are calling them out over the internet. I don’t get along with all of them nor does my opinion coincide with theirs all of the time, but to do what you just did is: [insert your word of the day].

P.S. Irony does actually exist online. Figure it out.

  336. habzfan2003 says:

I’m a Price supporter… So what? I don’t need to trash Halak just because my opinion is that Price will be the better goalie down the road…. I’m cheering for Jaro and the habs and if you’re wondering, I want Halak to start 100% game seven.

  337. christophor says:

    by the nine!

    we on the same wavelength?

  338. j2w4habs25 says:

anyone hear from the Caps fan that was around here?? lol

  339. Rainrocket16 says:

yeah its pretty F’d up that when we get the good lead that all the BS calls come out of the woodwork. I had to watch it on VS. every penalty at that time went to commercial with no replay of the so-called dives. BS, my 3 year old son even knows it.(or he just copied what daddy said.)

No Canadien team has a chance as long as Bettman is in control.

    2. an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  341. crabvader says:

    Please grow up.

  342. Caballero says:

K, I get it now, you are not really gloating, you just feel vindicated. Totally understandable. I am a big Price fan, but like I said, if he is traded I will be glad for him and he can hopefully develop elsewhere. I am not about to switch allegiances for him though and something tells me that is not the case for most Price fans. No player is bigger than the team, that is Washington crap. We forgot about Kovi and Koivu pretty quick here, and I hope that Price will be remembered as young talented goalie who was not developed properly here.

  343. crabvader says:

Not true, many of these guys i.e. Chuck are very respectable when they speak to others.

    Stop while you are ahead.

  344. WindsorHab-10 says:

Wow, I’m speechless. I thought this team was toast after game #4. Win or lose Wednesday night, we should all  be very proud that they forced a game 7.

  345. crabvader says:

I heard that he’s taken up voodoo.

  346. habzfan2003 says:

Does anybody here think Gionta is a diver?? Really?? WOW! Laps first was deserved that was awful. The second one is a tough call… 2 diving penalties for Laps? Wake up and stop diving play with your heart, That’s what your paid for… not your acting…

  347. ManApart says:

How is pointing out the truth, bashing Price? I never attacked his character or him personally, like a few have, just called his play on the ice like I saw it. But generally, was much more of a Halak advocate, than one to criticize Price. and you haven’t seen or must have forgotten what some of those guys have said over the months. If you did, you would certainly agree that they deserve a call out.

  348. Jru says:

It’s about time, but I finally created an account just because I had to comment on this game.

First of all, really proud of the way les boys played tonight. Halak was a monster.

Second and more importantly the reffing tonight made me sick, and worries me for game 7.

    Just some quick stats:

1312 games played in the NHL this season.

35 Diving penalties assessed this season.

3 Diving penalties where only the diver was penalized.

2 Ridiculous calls against Lapierre tonight that were just him being sent to the box, and then another preposterous one on gentleman like Gionta who was spun around like a dreidel.

You know shit is getting serious when even Martin yelled (reading his lips) “How the fuck are you gonna call that”. Good for him for finally showing some emotion, that’s exactly what we need.

  349. Caballero says:

But aren’t you guys fishing for Price fans by slamming them like this? Anyway I am sorry dude, I guess I wasn’t around for the times Price fans were being trollish. Lord knows I was singing along to that Halak song to the tune of brown eyed girl in my car not so long ago!

  350. christophor says:

you work your way into your fair share of arguments.

its interesting how most of your comments are reflexive.

those who claim entitlement to their own opinions tend to be least tolerating of others’.

i’m just disagreeing with you my fellow though ill informed fan. no need to get your panties in a knot

  351. ManApart says:

I don’t think Chuck should be included with the types I was speaking of. I was mistaken. He’s hasn’t been a loud mouth like some of the others. He’s been incredibly obtuse on the matter and has refused to let go of bias, in turn coming off foolishly, but he has by in large been Ok, if memory serves.

  352. Laramy87 says:

I think bettman was on a radio with the refs. 3rd period habs up 2-1… Oh we need the precious caps to go on instead the most storied franchise in all of sports. Yah call some times. I think Gionta is one of the cleanest guys in the leagure, the FARTHEST from a cheap shot artist, how the hell does he call that a dive, he had his stick between the lefs and twisted. Oh well we won and we won big, looks like we got the momentum going back to washington, mite i had we have taken 2 of 3 in that building… GO HABS GO

  353. j2w4habs25 says:

Yess they deserve a standing O for sure.

  354. ManApart says:

Hey, let’s not pretend Price boys wouldn’t be on here doing much worse, if Price had even remotely done anything close to what Halak has. Were you on here after game 3? Check the thread. After all Halak had done this year. They were obscene. Don’t tell me I don’t get the right or luxury to say ‘in your face” at the very least.

  355. Rainrocket16 says:

Yes the first was ugly but the second one was BS!! he took a high shot to the head.

  361. kempie says:

welcome to the jungle. agree completely. but i like our chances on wednesday so long as chris lee is somewhere else. if lee gets game 7 (and i wouldn’t be surprised), we’re gonna need to score 8 or 9 (not impossible if we chase varly and get theo back in)

  364. Say Ash says:

Varly or Theo? BB’s gotta be wondering…

  365. Caballero says:

Well to those people you can definitely say in your face man. I suppose if Price had stolen games this way, I would probably say hmm I think Price is ready to be the number one, let’s give Halak a chance to be numero uno elsewhere and get something in return. As it stands now, I am still not prepared to say ship off Price, and I feel perfectly comfortable with Halak as our number one. Part of the issue is that this team allows too many shots on Halak, and fatigue will set in over the course of a season. At the same time, Halak thrives on getting shots so he can be in “the zone” you see the dilemma here.

  366. blu3chip says:

We beat the Caps and the refs tonight.
I hope we can somehow get our voice out and fight against this game-fixing bs.
We may get past Caps, but Bettman will never let us beat Crosby.

  367. Chuck says:

Obtuse, biased, and foolish. Gee, thanks. I didn’t realize that having the opinion that Price is the real deal made me any of those. I’ll pass along your sentiment to Scotty Bowman, too.

And by the way, having the opinion that Carey is/will be a hell of a goalie doesn’t mean that I can’t cheer for Jaro, too. That’s what I don’t get about the folks from “your camp”. Why can’t I support both goalies without being called obtuse, biased, and foolish? Why does it have to be Jaro or nothing?

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.

  380. Da Hema says:

What Halak did tonight was stunning. I have watched the Habs since the 1970s, and I have never seen a Montreal Canadiens goaltender do in one game what Halak did this evening. Roy in 1993 was amazing throughout the entire playoffs (which I hope Halak can replicate), but this was the most remarkable one-game playoff performance by a goalie I have ever watched.

Anyone else wondering whether Ovechkin regrets his earlier comments about Halak? I guess hockey players do read newspapers!

IMO the only mildly questionable dive was Gionta’s ( again based on avl. TV feed and multiple Slo mo replays) .

I always thougt that “dives” (AKA aunsporstmanlike concuct penaties  were meant to negate questionable first offenses, not create new penalties… But the NHL does want a OVen costco chicken vs crosby matchup..

Your agenda is clear to me, it will be clear to all soon enough.

Never said it had to be at all. Am all for supporting the team, and whoever is playing. I’m talking about the things people have said (debate), in the face of all evidence, that Price is the better goalie or should be the starter.

  399. idle says:

I’m sorry, but if you think that the two calls against Lapierre were rediculous (especially the first one) then you are simply not capable of being objective.  The first ‘play’ by lapierre was one of the most embarassing things I have witnessed a Hab player do in years (I likened it earlier to something that John Kordic would do)  Not only did he dive but he acted like he was seriously hurt and tried to make it look like a very dirty hit that should be a suspension.  Just look at the way he flops around against the glass, kicking his feet and flailing his arms around like he is learning to swim.  Yes there should be a suspension but it should be that weasle Laps who gets it.  It’s too bad that garbage like that has to ruin one of his best games as a Hab.

Seriously, why do so many of you excuse this moron.  No player in the league respects him.  He is not tough, he does not battle, he just yaps and whines and embarasses himself.  He does not fight (and this is coming from someone who puts no stock in fighting and could care less if they ban it, but if you are the type of player Lapierre is and you talk so much and try to stir things up then you at least need to back it up) and he avoids hits more often then he throws them.  He has a stuid smirk on his face when he does something dumb like he could care less he did it.  He is not the type of player I want represending the Habs.  If they could say so privately I am fully confident that most of his teamates would say the same things.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  400. Johnny_Offensive says:

Agree that diving is for jokers and that the first one especially was called for. The refs definitely had an agenda last night to put an end to the diving.

What I don’t understand is how you can ever call BOTH diving AND a penalty on the same play. It makes no sense to me. Every single dive call should be alone. If you want to punish for diving, that’s the only way to play it. If there is an infraction, just call the infraction – but if a dive happens it should negate the infraction. That’s how you stop it from happening.

One last thing – that call on Gionta was complete BS…that was when the refs went too far…

  401. wotever says:

Good point, what was called is as important as what was not called. Methinks game 2 should not have happened so early in the playoffs.

You’ll have to speak up – I’m wearing a towel.

  408. Mill4ever says:

Habs 4 Caps + Refs 0. Can Halak steal the series? He looked possessed tonight.

It’s not pretty being outshot and mostly outplayed like this, but then again, it’s N.1 vs N.8. I know I won’t be too disappointed if they should lose game 7. They showed pride and effort these last two games.

Oh, and Gorges and Gill are the man(s). and so is PK.

  409. MontrealAtheist says:

    Those comments say it all:

The more shots thrown at Halak the stronger he gets”

that was one of the greatest goaltending performances ever.

  410. 24moreCups says:

So I’ve had a account here for awhile, posted only a few comments, but come read everyday like most.

But tonight was just so special I felt I had to post a comment about how amazing that game was, to me personally it was probably one of the best/most exciting playoff game I’ve yet to see. Since I’m pretty young(20 years young haha) I didn’t get to witness/be a part of the “glory days when the habs won all the time” which my father always speaks of.

I’m so impressed with how we played this series against a team many consider one of the best of not the best in the league.

I’ve never seen my father so excited either(which is pretty cool). My pops doesn’t watch full games anymore usually checks the score on the morning news or asks me.

So Wensday night will be the frist time me and my father actually watch a full game together, and drink a couple brews.

So weither we win or loose I’ll be happy and proud of our Montreal Canadiens, a team I wasn’t so sure of many, many times during the season I am now officially proud of regardless what has happend and see good things in our future.

And lastly I have to give kudos to Mr. Jaroslav Halak, I’ve been a big time Price fan since his first day as a hab, but I’ve always given Halak credit when it’s due. And he’s Deffinitly proven he’s our # 1 not only tonight(which was one of the best goaltending proformances I’ve seen) but all season, He is the reason we are where we are now.

Sorry for such a long post.. it’s the beer’s and the “ecstasy” I still feel over tonight win. hahaha

“I’ve got a feeling that tonights gonna be a good night”.. the drive for 25? haha GO HABS GOOO!

  411. terrygain says:

No need to apologize for a great post: a Price fan who acknowledges Jaro won the job and is the reason we are where we are. You are an intelligent Habs fan, who puts the team first. I’ve been watching the Habs for more than 50 years and I’ve never seen a goalie play better than last night.

  412. N.B.habs fan says:

Watching the game with your Dad and having a brew with him and HABS WIN priceless………..

  413. W35T5ID3 says:

    In a word : Mesmerizing….

…that was what the Halak show says……it was mesmerizing

..truly 1 for the ages and an unforgettable night.

  414. CHsam says:

Absolutely! I woke up thinking same thing. One for the ages last night.

  415. LizardKing1967 says:

Just listen to Red Fisher and that’s all anyone has to do. He’s been covering hockey for over 50 years, and this morning I read something in the Gazette that he wrote, and, for him to say this, well, HISTORY speaks.

He says that the greatest goaltending performance he ever saw in the playoffs was MTL vs. NYR in 1986. Overtime. Patrick Roy stopped 13 straight shots in OT until Claude Lemieux scored on our first shot. He then says that last night was, for him, the SECOND greatest goaltending he has ever seen in the playoffs.

If that’s not saying what the whole NHL is thinking this morning, nothing will.

Mr. Fisher, you’ve seen alot in your time, and I am glad to have witnessed your two greatest goaltending performances ever. I am one lucky fan.

Boys, it’s on to game 7. Caps are scratching their heads now, eh! ANYTHING can happen in game 7!

    GO HABS GO!!!!!!

    Jim-out. I BELIEVE!

  416. CHsam says:

Oh yeah. That was a thing of beauty last night. Wow. Talk about elevating the game. I’ll take Red’s word for it. And those diving calls ? just plain obvious who those f. zebras work for. But you know, they’ll always try to keep the good and honest down. F em. LETS DO THIS

  417. LizardKing1967 says:

Ok, so Lapierre DIVES once. Looked a little like a dive, but it was head first into the boards. Then the refs call Gionta for diving????? Are they mad??? Then they have the audacity to call Lapierre a SECOND time for diving?? I really do not think Laps would intentionally dive TWICE. The officiating has been disgusting all series. And I mean both ways. MAB was DAMN LUCKY the other night on Belanger. We are seeing the results of the two-ref system, and it sucks. The ref talent pool is so thin, that there are so many non calls and so many superfluous calls. Thin, just like the NHL talent pool. We should also remove about 6 teams, and then we’ll see awsome hockey. ALL YEAR.

    Jim-out. I BELIEVE!

  418. idle says:

” I really do not think Laps would intentionally dive TWICE”

What about Laps would make you think that he would not intentionally dive twice?  So he would intentionally dive (in horrific fashion) the first time but would never dive twice because he is just not that kind of player??

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  419. The Cat says:

Ron Tugnutt playing for Quebec faced 73 shots against Boston one night and held on for a 2-2 or 3-3 draw. Boston fans gave him a standing ovation, but it was a regular season game, not facing elimination or anything like that. 73 shots, thats like over 1 shot per minute! His exploit goes too often unremembered.

  420. novahab says:

I now understand why PK only played 10 minutes because he played the night before and it went to overtime. Ok now its time to sit MAB and play PK and bring back SK we need the extra player up front to play four lines. They can’t give up another 50 shots or thetywill not win. They have to give Halak some support and you know the refs will kill us in washington.

  421. adam76 says:

JM has used his bench well the last two games – a big factor in the wins (especially in game 5).

  422. TomNickle says:

Is there any doubt that Eric Fehr should be suspended for that cross check last night?  I don’t think so.

Will he be suspended?  Not on your life.

I’m still shaking my head wondering how they didn’t call that a major penalty.

Cross check to the shoulder blades with the clear intention of hurting either the defenseman or the goaltender, or both.

With Jacques Martin at the helm, we are doomed to be a good team instead of a great one.

  426. terrygain says:

Notwithstanding all of those who fell for McGuire’s 32 to the top line game changer meme the difference is 20 who has been terrific and enabled us to have 2 solid defence pairs. PK gives us a 5th solid defenceman.

I’m still not confident we can advance with this coach. I love Moen but as I’ve pointed out this is like playing Gainey with Lafleur and Lemaire.

Pouliot played well – for all of 5 minutes. He scored 15 times in 39 games but, on a team that has trouble scoring, the genius behind the bench has him on the 4th line.

Between them 42 and 15 played less than 19 minutes last night. This is not sustainable. Alas the hockey gods touched the shoulders of Jaro last night but with Lapierre scoring the 3rd goal they did us no favours. Instead of Lapierrre sitting, as he deserves, and the very effective 3rd line of 32-42-74 being reunited in game 7, unless Spacek has Lapierre over for dinner and sits close to him, we can look forward to McGuire’s monster Lapierre playing on the 3rd line and who knows how many stupid plays he will make with the series on the line.

In addition to having better numbers this year than Lapierre, SK74 had 131 points and was plus 38 in Junior as compared with Lapierre’s 52 and minus 10. This is one dumb coach but that was obvious when he sat 20 so he could play minus 8 Bergeron on defence.

  428. coachdoug says:

What a game it was!…while Halak stole the show the whole team stepped up and worked every shift…a full sixty minutes of hockey…While JM’s “system” has made us all bipolar nervous wrecks this year, I have to give him props…

I think the Habs are in Ovenchicken and Varley’s heads right now..good place to be going into Washington…The Caps were so arrogant they did not plan for this…which means it’s a good time to put them out of their arrogant misery…

I don’t know what is going on in the dressing room but I sense the Vets are really pulling it together…Washington is feeding them bulletin board material like crazy with all their stupid media comments…

Ovechkin is showing that he cannot carry Sid’s jock because he is mentally not there…Sid is the quiet professional OV is a media side show…Let the “ape” keep doing his antics right out of the playoffs he will not be missed

  430. Habs Proud says:

Amazing performance, obviously Halak but don’t forget guys like Josh Georges, he has stepped up! the guy is a warrior and should be a Hab for a long time, not bad for a toss in in the Rivet deal. Hal Gill, like most others I questioned him as being a pylon but he stands tall when it counts, in the playoffs, a piller when he needs to be, Andre Markov seems to play at whatever level he needs to, when the chips are down Markov is Markov. This whole team is fun to watch when they come to play, now if we could just get around having to defend against bad officiating.

  431. terrygain says:

He’s shortened the bench to sit 44 and 47 in the 3rd period but we now have no 4th line and 42 played only 12 minutes last night. Not sustainable.

Great job by our Coaches and Players for what ever adjusments were made regardingFace Offs. Our ability to win some big draws in game 5 and tonight are a huge reason we are going to a game 7(Yes, that and Halak). I dont know who is directly responsible but, NICE EFIN JOB

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  434. wmarcello says:

I don’t think the ice times last night were unreasonable at all. I actually think JM did a good job. The most time for a forward last night was Pleks’ 23:33, but he averaged over 20 minutes per game during the regular season. The situations for Gomez and Gionta were similar, but Pleks was the most “overused” if you even want to call it that. The D was also managed very well.

Game 5 ice times were unsustainable (though necessary for the win… hence the PK call-up), but but game 6 ice times were great.

  435. HabFanSince72 says:

    He’s a Broon.

    Says it all really.

  436. wmarcello says:

I liked the addition of 32 to the top line, if for no other reason that Pouliot was becoming a huge burden. I really like Pouliot, and yes he did score a lot in the regular season, but he simply wasn’t getting things done in the playoffs. Not scoring is one thing, but when at the same time you’re being a defensive liability (so many bad defensive decisions, several costing us goals), that is exactly when a player like Pouliot needs to come off the top line. The Caps’ skilled forwards were eating him alive. I’m much more baffled by JM’s decisions with SK than I am with the Pouliot demotion.

As for benching Lapierre, I thought he had one hell of a game tonight. He deserved the 1st diving call, but the 2nd was a garbage call. He even made up for the first one by drawing a penalty of his own, then scoring a goal. He’s getting under the Caps’ skins, creating scoring chances, and being very effective. He deserves to play game 7.

As for unsustainable ice times, why do you say that? Who in particular is getting way too much ice time? I thought JM’s bench management in game 6 very good, and easily sustainable. I do have some big beefs with JM, but bench management was not one tonight. Game 5 was very crazy for ice times, but necessary for the win. Thankfully the PK call-up helped in that respect, as well as a more solid game from Hammer.

As for the addition of 20 being a game changer, I completely agree, especially with the absense of Spacek.

  437. topher5468 says:

If I knew that Halak was definitely going to be here next year I would call the Habs Zone today and buy a Halak Jersey, I would trade in my Fake China Price jersey.

  440. Hayward4Price says:

Putrid coaching is what BB is doing right about now.  He has nothing in his playbook…no tricks up his sleeve.  JM is JM, but he is definitely out coaching BB.

  441. smiler2729 says:

Okay, let’s sober up. Game 6 is history, it’s yesterday. Game 7 is a brand new sheet of ice. Yesterday’s heroes can easily become tomorrow’s goats.

The Habs need to play another fantastic road game like in Game 5 but they definitely have to keep the Caps’ shots down to 40 or so (Halak sucks unless he gets 40 shots). If the Caps throw another 95 shots (I dunno the factual numbers but I think the Caps hit the Habs net 54 times, 25 or so were blocked and the rest missed the net) at the Habs on their home ice, it will probably be a different story with the 7th man behind ’em.

The Habs need to bottle them and shut ’em up early.

  442. terrygain says:

I generally agree with your comments but I think Pouliot has been playing hard and did again for  5 minutes last night. The top line is not only not scoring but not even getting its share of chances. Gomez played 24 minutes in game 5 and Pleks played 22 last night. 42 played only 12 minutes last night and 15 played 5. We need to play more in their end. We won’t win again being outshot 2.5 to 1. We need 3 lines going, not 2.5.

Lapierre is a dumb hockey player with little offensive skill. He does play with energy but he is strictly a 4th liner.

  443. pmaraw says:

agreed, if caps lose he will be shown the door, no doubt.

  444. Hayward4Price says:

If you look at the game objectively, i.e. without favoratism for any players, you’d see that Laps played his heart out and is having a good series overall.  SK is a bit too much of a passenger to dress at this point.  He is a good insurance policy to have around but if you don’t know which SK is going to show up in do or die games, it is a little risky having him take up a spot in the lineup.  At least Lap has shown he wants to play every game.  He is pretty much saving his career with this series.  The dive was really in poor taste but a guy like him is expected to do something moronic from time to time.  He made up for it though so at worst he came out even.  At best, he was one of the best players on the ice outside of Halak, Gorges, Gill, O’B, Cam and Markov.

  445. pmaraw says:

those 2nd and 3rd diving calls were a disgrace, clearly a high stick, and gio is not going to ever do that.

  446. terrygain says:

Gorges did not step up. He has played great all of this year and last year. Gord Miller is wrong. We did not trade Rivet for Paciorety, with Gorges thrown in. Max was the throw in.  As for Gill, the astute hockey fan realizes that he is Allan Stanley effective.

  447. yves_on_habs says:

I thought those 2 last diving calls were ridiculous too.

McGuire was saying it was a reputation call on Lapierre on the first one… Gionta doesn’t that reputation… and the second call on Lapierre put the officiating in question in my eyes.

    It was just silly.

No point in arguing with a self-described objective observer whose favourite player is Brian Hayward.

  449. wmarcello says:

In general I think Pouliot has worked pretty hard, but he’s definitely been prone to judgment lapses. In game 4, Hamrlik was absolutely blasted for that bad pinch he took with seconds left in the period that led to the shorthanded goal, but that wasn’t the only thing wrong with that shift. Pouliot went for a lazy line change with 10 seconds left instead of staying on the ice and backchecking. In the same game, on the goal where Ovechkin put a move on Gill, Pouliot easily could have kept his feet moving and given Ovechkin a hard time on the backcheck. Perhaps he believed that simply skating back was enough and picking up a man wasn’t important, but either way he was a contributing factor on that goal against. There were more examples just like this earlier in the series as well. It’s no coincidence that after that game 4 his ice time plummeted.

I do agree that we need to play a lot more in their end though, but I think that has more to do with JM’s system than his bench management. Pleks playing 23 minutes last night is not a huge stretch considering he averaged just over 20 in the regular season. I think the ice time was reasonably well shared. Laps had over 11 minutes, Moore 12 minutes, and Pyatt 14. Those are 3rd line type minutes IMO.

  450. steadyjake says:

Agreed. If the refs wanted to give the Caps a chance to get back in it, there are countless holding and hooking calls to be made every two seconds. Diving is a serious issue because it clearly indicates Caps players and coaches have gotten into the refs heads, opbviously warning them to look for this.

  451. Le Jadester says:

    Good Post and you’re right.

Jaro, along with the Camel, were kings for a day and they rocked our city more than anything has in while now but that doesn’t mean the pedal comes off the medal !

PK must stay !  His tryout for the Big Club is over !  Man he kept it real last nite !

What got into Lappy last nite ? What a roller coaster ride that was.

JM I still don’t like you or your tactics cause I don’t really know if we can sustain this throughout 4 series’ and win the cup…. but I like it when you prove me wrong and the team wins and that’s all that matters in the end. Keep the W’s comin’.

The Caps are wetting themselves right now ! I love it. Not even OBAMA can save them now

    Habs, OLE !

  452. terrygain says:

Again? Assess the play on what happened, not reputation. Gionta embellished the trip. I suppose he had no confidence in the biased refereeing.

JM played MAB 36 sec. on even strength. That is 36 sec. too much. He was eaten alive by Washington’s forwards in this series. Pouliot didn’t back check. He was the reason why Gomez’s line gave up a lot of goals in this series. I have to give JM credit to identify these two fatal problems of our team.

  455. Hayward4Price says:

Not a dive if a stick is in between your legs at about knee level as you are trying to accelerate.  I can’t imagine what other possible outcome there can be if you don’t want to (a) snap the stick in 2 while (b) potentially injuring your knee.

Lapierre, yes, 2 dives = 2 right calls…..but on Gio, the stripes got that one way wrong.  For me, Gio was starting to excellerate after the puck, and then a stick gets thrown into your legs, all of a sudden stopping your forward progress in an instant.  What else is he supposed to do but do a somersalt in the air.  Just like throwing a stick into someones bike spokes when we were little, (not like we did that of course) but I’m just saying, the bike goes flying and Gionta does the same.  Again, how else is he supposed to fall or NOT dive?

    With the

That raises an interesting point. If Fleischman gets called for a trip,
it really should not be possible to call Gionta for a dive. It’s awfully
hard to stay on your feet and move your legs when there is a stick
between them. Maybe I’m just quibbling over terminology — in soccer,
for example, exaggerating  the effect of a trip is called embellishment.
Even if that were a rule in the NHL, I still thought that was horrible
call. Gionta was trying hard to skate away with the puck and was
    prevented, illegally, from doing so.

  469. 123456 says:

    ugh, 60 seconds i won’t get back…

  470. jimmy shaker says:

Like to argue that point for a minute.  I believe MAB while yes he’s had his share of mistakes, he hasn’t cost us the losses in this series.  Our 36 year old 5.5mill per tsn turning point has been the biggest disapointment.  Again, last night he could’ve cost us the game, by taking that delay of game penalty. He’s hurt us the most in the 3 losses, and most everyone on here doesn’t go after him but after MAB.  Yes MAB is -8…Hammer is -5 with 3 plays that lead directly to Washington goals and wins for them.  The whole team is minus right now, so throw that useless stat out the window as far as I’m concerned.  I liked the way JM was using the players last night…..I thought he was going to keep on rotating PK and MAB everyother shift out there with Hammer, and agreed with him.  Gave PK and MAB both decent minutes and kept them fresh.  He didn’t stick with it, and I was fine with it.  Like I said, MAB made two pretty nice plays while we were on the PP to save some shorthanded opps for the caps, and he did come away with an assist.  For me, I would get Hammer out of this lineup yesterday and go with Marky/O’Byrne, Gorges/Gill and MAB/PK and Spacek (if he can get his purse, I mean arse to washington that is.

Maxime Lapierre… Two diving penelties? Really?

This section in the rulebook kind of scares me that he will be suspended for game 7.

“64.1 Diving / Embellishment – Any player or goalkeeper who blatantly dives, embellishes a fall or a reaction, or who feigns an injury shall be penalized with a minor penalty under this rule.

A goalkeeper who deliberately initiates contact with an attacking player other than to establish position in the crease, or who otherwise acts to create the appearance of other than incidental contact with an attacking player, is subject to the assessment of a minor penalty for diving / embellishment.

64.2 Minor Penalty – A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player or goalkeeper who attempts to draw a penalty by his actions (“diving / embellishment”).

64.3 Fines and Suspensions – Regardless if a minor penalty for diving / embellishment is called, Hockey Operations will review game videos and assess fines to players or goalkeepers who dive or embellish a fall or a reaction, or who feign injury. See also Rule 29 – Supplementary Discipline. The call on the ice by the Referee is totally independent of supplementary discipline.

The first such incident during the season will result in a warning letter being sent to the player or goalkeeper. The second such incident will result in a one thousand dollar ($1,000) fine. For a third such incident in the season, the player shall be suspended for one game, pending a telephone conversation with the Director of Hockey Operations. For subsequent violations in the same season, the player’s suspension shall double (i.e. first suspension – one game, second suspension – two games, third suspension – four games, etc.)”

i’am all happy about the win. But the team Bob gainey bult didn’t really have halak in it’s plan too much.

This team game up 54 shots last nigth and got bailed out by some out standing goaltending. If you honestly think giving up 54 shots a game is the key to success you’re smoking something funny.

  478. adamkennelly says:

refing was not very good but to be frank, Lapierre’s reputation and big mouth proceed him.  If you continually shoot your mouth off and try to make the refs look like a-holes – they are gonna get you back.

Laps played a half decent game aside from that – good on the forecheck and key score.

what happens if Spacek comes back?  I think MAB needs to come out.  Took JM 6 games longer than many of us to realize how big a liability he is – I don’t even like him on the PP – his lack of speed, fumbling of the puck and inability to read plays is gonna bite us in the ass.  All that for a canon shot that he rarely gets through and on net.  This team does not have the depth to afford that kind of player in the line-up.

  479. jimmy shaker says:

Hey Shane, while I agree with you that this jabroni is quite excessive and nauseating.  I don’t think the mods are going to do too much.  Everyday on here we witness the constant goalie bashing/debate.  You’re a Price guy, just like I’m a Jaro guy.  But in the end we’re “Habs guys”.  I think the best tonic for this idiot is to just not respond and waste your time feeding his sorry little pukes ego.  He is only here for one reason, and it’s to rile up the Price fans.  There are quite a bit of people that want to to the same thing in regards to Jaro.  But the real fans, smell that angle a mile away, and all we need to do is skate away, because it’s just not worth it.

  480. Ton says:

I am reading all the posts this morning and some players are getting sympathy they don’t deserve and some players are being praised rightly so. JM is getting mixed reports. He sucks, he’s good etc.   Here’s my evalution taking into consideration two of the most importants things a coach asks for; effort,  execution, effectiveness, and results.  SK come on now why sympathy for him, no effort and scared to go into corners. Pouliot even worst.  Talk to peolpe who have seen him regularily in junior, lazy! MAB perhaps effort but in his overall play no execution or effectiveness. Pyatt effort perhaps but no effectiveness. Darche this series, no execution no efffectiveness. Price likely would have had the same appraisal would he have played.

Now what is a coach to do when your team does not have 3rd or 4th line warriors. Taken that into consideration for the entire year and the fact that he has had injuries to the top 6 and top 4 d man, JM has done a remarkable job. What do you do with these missing in action links in take up place on the bench in crucial games!  He has tried them in top 6 roles!!  Do you realize if those players above  were better players for us at this time of the year we could have been cup bound.

  481. punkster says:

Ian, whatever happens in the next couple of days I am already looking forward to July 1, then the rookie and training camps this summer. More changes and upgrades on the way but they confirmed the heart and soul we saw them exhibit throughout the season.

  482. HalGillsNumberOneFan says:

I was thinking about that earlier…

Do you really think spacek has a cold? I think due to his lack of preformance is the last couple games, they made him sit but called it as a cold so that they could call up Subban.

  483. 123456 says:

no worries, the rulebook has not been followed this year….

  484. Ian Cobb says:

Not to worry GILL FAN, the refs last night are being investigated themselves.

It was blatant and corruption of our game!

Just wonder if the referees got paid more by the league or another individual last night??

  485. wmarcello says:

Zero chance of that. Spacek has actually played anywhere from average to great this series, and has been far superior to Hamrlik.

  486. smiler2729 says:

Thanks Ian and well said. I’ve taken a lot of crap for backing and defending Bob Gainey all season long. Patience is Bob’s greatest virtue and some of us saw what he was trying to do.

This team, goaltending aside, is so much better than the soft spoiled bums of the last 3-4 seasons.

  487. smiler2729 says:

It’s the character and perseverance of this team that is impressive.

  488. Ton says:

Halak was a Gainey find and he is still there. In fact strong rumors persist that Price was part of the deal going to Tampa. I would have done the same and protect my heavy investment in top 5 draft. They don’t work out sometimes but you got to exaust all attempts. Unfortunately we got number 4 on the draft list also to make work.

  489. jimmy shaker says:

Sorry for having to keep on defending MAB, but I am president of his fan club.  But you’d rather see hammer on the ice, giving up shorties, taking penalties that give washington 5 on 3’s.  Hammer, the guy that can’t get a shot from the point off the ice, let alone to the net.  The guy that has cost us in my opinion the 3 losses in this series.  MAB, has let us down, made some silly plays, but not to the degree that hammer has.  I could argue O’byrne taking 2 bad penalties hurts us, and his inability to push the puck or have any kind of speed hurts us, but I don’t because I feel he’s been solid since coming back in.  MAB can push the puck better than Hammer, he can shoot better than Hammer, hasn’t taken penalties like Hammer, is faster than Hammer and cost a hell of a lot less than hammer.  He’s helped us more than he’s hurt us.  I don’t mind limiting his minutes out there, but everyone needs to wake up and see that hammer is the one who has to wake up, because he’s another bad play away from costing us this series.

  490. Hayward4Price says:

Mostly agree – I would put Spacek in over MAB as a pairing and keep MAB for the PP like he was used yesterday.  As for the purse comment on Spacek, if the guy can’t breath how can he be expected to play?

  491. Corio says:

I have faith, Halak can play just as well on Wednesday!  He is on FIRE!  We have the momentum now and the Caps know they are in trouble if they can’t beat Halak.  Ovie is visibly frustrated…  Watch on Wednesday for a lot of goalie interference again Jaro..

    Go HABS!

  492. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

I am so pleased with the habs success; especially pleased for Halak, who I know to be an extremely hard worker and great teammate. Guys like Halak deserve success.

The breakdowns in the defensive zone coverage were outrageous, however.

There is no way any coach can could be happy with the way the habs played last night – defensively, I mean.

Why did we give up so many scoring opportunities?

Why is Ovechkin being left WIDE OPEN in the slot, on more than 1 occassion last night; Semin is open, Backstrom is walking right into the primary shooting area, and the list goes on and on.

This is NOT a day to sing the praises of Bob Gainey – who never believed in Halak.

This is a day to be thankful that the Habs pulled out a miracle last night, that their goalie was miraculous, and that we can NOT continue to play like this and win.

We need the “shut down” Habs to show up for game 7, which we have seen for 7.5 of the 9 periods played in Washington.

  493. jimmy shaker says:

So how does this work?  IF we come away with a win vs the caps tomorrow, does PK have to stay up with us or can he still go down to Hamilton and come back when the next round starts?  Me thinks, if we win, he stays or else he can’t come up again.  I bet Boucher will be smiling and grinding his teeth all at once if that plays out.

  494. topher5468 says:

Your giving this guy life, ignore him, Like ian said. if he gets no attention he will go away

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

  495. HalGillsNumberOneFan says:

Well with subbans preformance last night, that I find was a little over rated I don’t think Spacek will be back for game 7. Your right in the sence that he should bench Hamerlik and play Subban in his place if Spacek comes back.

  496. Ian Cobb says:

Spacek was playing terrific I think.

  497. punkster says:

Shane, best to just ignore this type of poster or anyone whose sole purpose it is to stir up controversy and anger others. We have more than enough intelligent and reasoned point-counterpoint on here to satisfy all our requirements for healthy debate. If nobody responds to the goading the instigators will drop by the wayside.

  498. wmarcello says:

PK was the Habs’ 4th and final call-up until the Bulldogs are done their playoff run. He either stays with the Habs now or goes back to Hamilton not to be seen again.

  499. jimmy shaker says:

Hperbaric chamber for Jaro all day today, and can Washington just get 40 shots very very quickly please? Of course all very easy routine from the outside shots, not like the 20 or so insane pointblank saves he had to come up with last night!

  500. Ian Cobb says:

Hope to spend some time with you in Brossard again this year Dave!

  501. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

buddy – face the reality of economics – Hamrlik makes 5.5 million. MAB makes 750,000.

I’m sorry to say that you are fighting a losing battle.

    Gainey saddled us with a hamrlik contract which is 100 times worse than the Gomez deal;

and it would be too embarassing to the habs for Hamrlik to sit in the press box.

  502. Ton says:

the games in washington are played differently. strategy is different for both teams. difference between yesterdays game and our other home games is that we scored first but your right we stil had the colapse. in washington you will find them on the offense more and us taking advantage of there slip ups. also of note key penalities to us yesterday took away terroritial advantage which lead to all the rubber coming our way. we need halak of course for game 7 and we need to be down no more that a goal going into the third, or even better up a couple going into the third.

  503. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

that is a remarkably fortunate situation. he must stay, or we could be screwed on defence going forward.

  504. T-roy West says:

Not true. I belief that they can call up anyone as long as the person their replacing is injured. I do think that when Spacek returns then Subban will be send down. But I hope he doesn’t.

  505. jimmy shaker says:

Like Cherry said.  ” A virus, I mean a cold”?  C’mon.  I know I don’t have all the details, but come playoff time…..suck it up.  Yzerman, Lemieux, Bobby Baun, Jordan in basketball playing with a fever over a 100 degrees, etc.etc.  Again, I know I don’t know all the details, but when your counted on in the playoffs, you play until your heart stops.  We need him out there and it’s just sad that he’s not.  I’m probably being to hard, but playoff hockey to me is all about sacking up and going out there and worrying about the problems between the periods and after the game.

  506. MontrealAtheist says:

Bob Gainey never liked Halak and barely gave him a chance. Last year, when the Habs got swept away by the Bruins it was always Price in net for the crucial games despite his so-so performance. If it were up to BG Halak would have been traded away already and Price put in goal game after game, win or lose.

And now that Bob Gainey is gone and Halak has finally a chance to play as the #1 goaltender you seriously want to give Bob Gainey credit for that? C’mon, let’s get real.

  507. Caballero says:

MAB does not have the skill or grit to be a good NHL d man over the course of an entire season. The guy has an incredible shot. That’s it.

  508. jimmy shaker says:

They did bench him in Game 5 for the 3rd period, so why not go the extra step and send him to the presser?  He can’t hurt us up there or help the caps from up there.  They brought up PK, which is crazy for the habs to make a move like that….so go the extra mile and get Hammer a Heineken and sit his arse!

  509. nunacanadien says:

Actually Gainey was pretty up forward about trying to get rid of Halak both to Tampa and other teams, just before the Molson boys forced him to step aside as soon as Halak showed his true skill.

At any rate, the rookies have again saved Gainey’s skin.  It was the rookie’s skill and energy that reinvigorated Cammy and Pleks.

  510. Malreg says:

We would have to have only 5 healthy defensemen to be able to call him up again on an emergency basis, and that won’t happen since we have Markov, Bergertron, OB, Hammer, Spacek, Gill, Gorges

  511. MontrealAtheist says:

Gainey never believed in Halak and if it were up to him Halak would have been traded away long time ago just so Price could get some on-the-job training.

Bob Gainey did more damage than good to the team and the fact that they were able to overcome BG’s poor decisions and obsession with Price speaks for itself.

  512. linp says:

I agree to keep MAB on the PP. He gives Cammalleri more room to shoot. I also agree that Hamrlik is very disappointing and we expect much more from him. But that doesn’t hide the fact that Washington has a bigger chance to score when MAB is playing defense. He just can’t cover those big Washington forwards. He has no chance to fight for the puck.

  513. Malreg says:

Maybe because without Hammer we would not have even made the playoffs?  Maybe because he was practically our MVP of the first half of the season?

  514. HabFanSince72 says:

Gainey traded Huet away because he believed in Halak.

(i.e. he had to choose between Price/Huet and Price/Halak).

  515. Malreg says:

Haven’t you posted that before every game?

  516. TomNickle says:

    Gionta embellished the trip?

With Jacques Martin at the helm, we are doomed to be a good team instead of a great one.

  517. 123456 says:

which one of the four playoff games last year was not crucial, i though they all were??

    secret mod

  518. Caballero says:

He carried the D while Marky was injured

  519. MontrealAtheist says:

BG traded Huet away because he wanted to make Price the number 1 goalie. Under Gainey, Halak never got a chance to realize his potential and if it were up to Gainey, you can rest assured that the Habs would not be in the play-offs since Halak would not have gotten much play time after the Olympic break.

  520. MontrealAtheist says:

    That’s exactly how it happened!

  521. Caballero says:

Dude, you are attacking one of the classiest and nicest members of this forum.

  522. jimmy shaker says:

I think what you meant to say or insert where you put hammer’s name was Jaro.  Yes, he did help out very well when Markov went down, but he’s been back for a long time now.  How long will it take for him to recover?  I know his minutes were elevated when Marky went down, but are we giving him a free pass because his legs haven’t recovered yet from those extra minutes months ago? C’mon

  523. TomNickle says:

Yeah, Spacek sure did carry the D when Markov was out this year, you’re right!

With Jacques Martin at the helm, we are doomed to be a good team instead of a great one

  524. jimmy shaker says:

Yes, but in the salary cap era of the NHL, I think he fits in quite nicely.  In fact, I think MAB fairs better in the regular season vs the playoffs because he’s not playing the same forwards night in and night out.  He’s facing sometimes weaker opponents and goalies during the regular season thus helping him out and the team.  Facing the caps and their offense is a task for the greatest D-men in the NHL let alone MAB.  And while yes, I agree he has his struggles and braincramps… I’m taking this guy, his offensive upside and his very low, low, low cap hit and running with him.  750,000 vs 5.5mill works for me.  And with the savings between the two, we can sign both goalies and a top 6 forward.

  525. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

dude – I really don’t want to argue on this festive day – afterall we are both Habs fans, right.

but you do realise, I hope, that  the soft spoiled bums of the last 3-4 seasons were Gainey’s team as well???

  526. jimmy shaker says:

I can agree with you to a certain extent about him not being able to battle in front of the net, but I think Gorges, Marky, Spacek and Hammer all kind of struggle in that area too.  Not to mention that the stripes don’t allow you to battle anymore in front of the goalie like they use to.  I think it comes down to for me, MAB is a better upside than Hammer right now, and I would rather go with him.  I’d even go with MAB and PK rotating shifts with Spacek in game 7, but I don’t think there will be any lineup changes coming at all.

  527. TomNickle says:

It is really is nice that you don’t jump to conclusions.  Bob Gainey told Carbonneau to play Price ONE TIME and that translates into Gainey never believed in Halak, he would have traded Halak a long time ago, Gainey did more damage than good and we’re overcoming the decisions he made.

Funny, those decisions seem to have put the team in a pretty good place.  That’s quite a leap by the way.  After all, Bob Gainey did sign him.  Bob Gainey was the guy who called Halak up to the big club.  He was the guy who ultimately, rewarded Halak’s work.

With Jacques Martin at the helm, we are doomed to be a good team instead of a great one.

  528. Caballero says:

Dude as long as he doesn’t play crazy minutes per game which he won’t I agree. He has something to bring to the table. Gotta say that one timer he scored with Gionta when we lost to Carolina was one of the most satisfying goals I have seen in a while. But you can’t make him your number 2, 3, 4, 5 D man.

  529. jimmy shaker says:

So PK is here until we’re out of the playoffs more or less…..Boucher must be pleased and pissed!

  530. jimmy shaker says:

Agree, and agree, that goal was mint….I’m still trying to see the replay, and watch the puck leave his stick and jump to the net….it’s a blur.  I think he gets penciled in nicely as our 6th D-man next year, playing about 12-14 minutes per game, and as I’ve said before, bring back Dandenault and pair him with MAB.  Dandy is incredibly fast and can help MAB when he does have his braincramps.  Also MAB and Dandy’s cap hit would only be around 1.5 mill between the two of them…..outstanding deal for those two guys in my opinion.

  535. terrygain says:

Pouliot was plus/minus 0 in games 1-3. He was minus 2 in game 4 and he’s been plus/minus 0 in games 5 and 6 where he has played a grand total of 9 minutes.

For 750K Francis B gave us good hitting and nifty puck handling and no brain cramps. But we did need someone on the point on the PP. There is no excuse, however,  for playing MAB (and Lapierre) anywhere but on the 4th line.

  538. tdrmoss84 says:

Here here…I agree! I would totally favor MAB over Roman…the Hammer?  Hammer?  I haven’t seen that brittle overpaid defenseman hammer anything?!  He is a liability people.  At least MAB has offensive skills.  44 perhaps back in his tampa days during the Mesozoic Era when dinosaurs roamed the Earth…cmon please!  76 plays…44 sits!

  539. KenD29 says:

He will end up back with the Dogs as they start their next playoff round Thursday.

    Believe it works as follows

The Habs will only be able to call someone up on an “emergency” basis while the Dogs are still in the playoffs. What is defined as “emergency” presumably would mean someone goes down on the Habs. Once the Dogs are done in their own playoffs, they can be called up at any point in time.

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  540. wmarcello says:

There is no doubt in my mind that Lapierre would dive twice in one game, but last night he simply didn’t. The first call was definitely correct, but the second one was a bad call. He got caught with a stick/hook up high, and it didn’t look like he was trying to fall, let alone sell the call.

The call on Gio was pure BS. I can’t believe they called that one.

  541. terrygain says:

I love 21, but he clearly dove.

  542. idle says:

But isn’t it a case of if you act like a weasle you are bound to be treated like one?  Maybe the second one was questionable (I happen to think it was a dive and I also think it was pretty selfish to do it again at that point in the game and put your team at risk again) but considering the reputation that Laps has the refs are probably going to lean against him on a questionable call.  We reap what we sow.

    It’s a MAB MAB world.

  543. wmarcello says:

To me he clearly didn’t, but I don’t think we’re going to agree. I’ve seen that can opener move dozens of times this season. I’m not sure how Gio could have possibly not fallen with a stick between his legs.

  544. wmarcello says:

Oh I definitely think the 2nd call on Laps was a reputation call. I don’t question that he had it coming, but I’m just saying that particular play wasn’t a dive. It just stung a bit more than usual because of the bad diving call on Gio.

  545. wmarcello says:

That’s my general thought on it as well, though MAB is starting to look like he’s going to cost us a goal even on the PP. He had a PP shift early on with Markov that was downright scary.

That said though, he was once again on the ice for another PP goal. That makes 4 of 5 in the series for him, with 2 assists. Some are arguing that the Habs should simply replace his PP presence with Subban and leave it at that. I can understand that argument, but I highly doubt JM will tinker with the lineup much.

“Save us Turtleneck Man…We need you now more than ever!”

  548. forskis says:

I really hope we keep both goalies…Halak is the go-to guy presently and Price will be a more than adequate backup while he finally develops properly…if Price is let go, I would not feel comfortable having either Sanford or Desjardins as the backup and the other options out there are kinda expensive, ie. Turco, Toskala and whoever else is available.  Plus if we keep Price, it would be nice that the team stops its annual tradition of kicking draft picks and young players to the curb.

But the way the Habs have played the last two games is not conducive to winning in the long-run…they have to push back and not just in the first period.

“I am guilty of using elipses…”

  549. newbrunswick troy says:

I agree we have to keep both goalies ..cause Halak will now force Price to work harder..and hence good inner competition…till this team can see a potential drive for the cup…then we should sell one of the assets to push us over the top…

but as for now neither goalie is really worth 4-5mil per year….so try and keep them both at 2-2.5mil each

However if Halak realy does go and steal game seven as well and then ….runs deap in playoffs

well you know some “geln Sather” type  G.M is gonna open the wallet…but we will at least get a couple of picks in return!!!!!

  550. terrygain says:

Carey Price is not a backup goalie. If he’s not No1, he’ll be dealt.

  551. Storm Man says:

Well said, Price is a investment that you look at one more year and if he does not workout in the plans of this team going forward, you look into trading him at the trade deadline when you have GM’S knocking on your door. I recall a goalie we had that was the MVP one year and tanked the next, One year of playing great does not make you a superstar. I for one think this team can win game 7, If the whole team plays like Gods

  552. nunacanadien says:

All the Gainey supporters are singing praises here today, but honestly, we need to support our goalie, we need size.  Sure Gainey built this team, its a small team and when the Habs meet bigger teams, where are you Gainey supporters?  When the Habs get blown over, pushed aside, checked into the boards because they are small, and Halak see 50 shots per game, where is the defense?  Where is the large forwards to stop a rush?  No where, cause we don’t have size!

  553. TomNickle says:

Yeah we know….Gionta’s too small, Gomez is too small, Cammalleri’s too small.  We’re going to get embarrassed by the Capitals in four games.  This team can’t compete physically with them.  Gionta turns the puck over too much.

You’ve preached your nonsense about this team since the beginning of the season and they’ve thrown a big cream pie in your face in the first round yet you keep coming back.  I guess you aren’t finished your initiation into the Leaf fan club.

Looks to me like the lack of size has allowed Cammalleri and Gionta to get into quiet areas of the ice and get quality shots off.  Looks like Gomez has been playing a pretty tough game this series.  I really don’t see Brian Gionta turning the puck over and I certainly don’t see any of those forwards being manhandled physically.  But hey, who am I to tell you that you’ve been wrong all year, the team’s been doing a good enough job of that.

With Jacques Martin at the helm, we are doomed to be a good team instead of a great one.

  554. newbrunswick troy says:

althogh i agree with what you say about our teams size…i don,t quite know if it was all Gainey,s fault..i mean had to blow up the last team …and assemble a new one..that said  not every 6ft-2  power forward was available and or even wanted to come play here in this pressure cooker (fabricating ruthless media)

So he built the best team he could …and although Gomez isn,t worth 8-mil  he does legitimize the team to a point where they can now sign  the likes of Cammy,Gio…and hpefully resign Plecs….and maybe now be able to grab a true power forward…

Giving up a ton of shots isn’t a red light that we need more size, it’s indicative of the Capitals offense being outstanding and our forwards not applying enough back pressure and our defensemen having poor gap control and coverage.

What about the parade/party last night?  Only in Montreal I guess…..I mean we didn’t even win the series yet and people were going crazy.  Last time we won a series was when we went to seven games vs the cubs who were the 8th seed, and we had riots.  Now last night, a much calmer and peaceful environment, but I still laughed to myself to see everyone take to the streets.  I mean its great and everything….the players must have been surprised and thougth they’d won the cup or something.  Anyway, just glad nobody got hurt or turned into idiots, where the police needed to be called in like the cubs series a couple of years ago.  Only in Habville right?  Gotta love it!

Damned computer power supply croaked on me after I got home from the Bulldogs game on Sunday night so I had to take it for a diagnostic to find out the PSU was what was definitely dead and needed replacing, but only found that out this morning so I had to venture out into the night to find a bar broadcasting the Habs. Fortunately I found such a bar and caught the whole thing and what a game…

I’ve always been more of a Price fan than Halak but if he does games like that 3-5 more times this playoff year… Conference Finals? Who knows. Knew Subban would have a good impact last night and he did, his ability to carry the puck from end to end is potentially even better than Gomez’s since he’s just 20 and has plenty of time to improve himself in that area. I expect him to get more minutes in game 7 for sure, but he needs Markov to partner for the PP, tired of MAB just reaching for those pucks sliding past the blue line and then having to reset the PP attack.

I think Game 7 is ours for the taking now and my CA 15-16 Jersey is officially my playoff jersey, it’s been good for 2 wins in a row now and I was wearing it when the Bulldogs won their Game 6 against the Moose to go to round 2 of the Calder Cup Playoffs.

The only reason we are this far is Halak. Can he be another Ken Dryden? Somehow I doubt it with all the firepower in the NHL today. Look at the shots and play control last night and you can see we were no where equal to the Caps. We must not fool ourselves into thinking this team can go deep into the playoffs. We are too small to compete. We fooled them in the 1st period in a couple of games and then they took over and only Halak saved the game(s). I do not think we can do that in a 7th game in their barn while at the same time I will admit I did not expect them to win more than one game.

Hopefully over the summer management will acknowledge this weakness and move some of these players for big returns. Afterall Halak has showcased himself well (I just don’t think he can win on a consistent basis and that has shown to be true this year). He can bring a good return along with 2 of our smaller players. Edmonton, St Louis, LA and Florida were all disappointed and have key assets we can use and should trade for them.

In any event I will put my Habs jersey on tomorrow night and cheer for our Habs.

They’ve got cap space taken up all over the place, but I think they’re going to have to either buy Huet out or bury him in the minors to deal with their cap issue because it’s not just Kane, it’s Toews with the same contract and Keith on a 13-year deal or something. Toss in Campbell at 7.1, Hossa’s big deal, something’s gotta give, likely a couple things.

Corey Schneider in Vancouver’s organization will be likely getting moved this summer as well, he had a strong AHL campaign and kept the Moose in against the Bulldogs in their playoff series. He’s too good to toil in the AHL with Luongo on a 12-year deal, some teams will target him to slide him with a veteran goalie as the answer to their goaltending issues.

If anything, Chicago might target Price since Bowmans are huge on the kid, but I doubt they’d offer much with his game the way it is right now.

Victory at all costs.” – Winston Churchill

It’s 5am in the bedroom of a nice home in suburban Washington.

A man is stirring in bed, drenched in sweat and breathing sharply. Violently clutching his blankets, he slams bolt upright and screams, “Halaaaaaaaaaaaak!!!”

His little coffee bean eyes, puffy with troubled sleep, dart around the darkened room as the disorientation recedes.

“You okay, Booboo?”, asks his now half-awake bed companion as she reaches over to him.

Gently brushing her arm away, the man mutters, “It’s nothing. Nothing, honey. Go back to sleep.”

His tortured thoughts turn to some seven hours earlier. Fresh beads of sweat form as he recalls the stifling heat of the clustered, inquisitive spotlights. His words come back to him: “I don’t know how to answer that. I mean, am I any more ready? We’re gonna be as ready, we’ve been through it. I mean, how do I answer it? Help me out here. How do you answer that question? What do you do to get more ready? You don’t know.”

Still shaken, the pudgy man gets up, heads into the bathroom and locks the door. Pyjama-clad, he curls into a ball on the floor of the bathtub, the shower running to muffle his quiet sobbing.

    You don’t know, indeed.

I have been wanting to post this for a little bit, anyways here we go…… Halak had an AHL pedigree before stepping up with the big club, he was able to hone his game in the minors not in the NHL as Price has had to do. Price aside for a few games and the playoffs hasn’t had the extra seasoning if you will and is 2 years younger. He was rushed into the NHL by Bob Gainey and is 2 years younger. I fully believe that Price will still be as good a goalie as Halak is currently. I hope that the Habs can keep both this Summer.

I totally agree with that. If we win against the Caps — predictions against pittsburg will be very cautious.  And if we win them, then there should be no stopping this team.  But instead of looking forward, we need to look at game 7 and get past that one first.  It is still anybody’s series.  We all know that Caps have the fire-power, do we have enough stamina to get going in the 7th game as well, or more like, do we have enough juices left to sustain what we started in game 5?

Game 2 — shoulda coulda woulda!  lets look at game 7.

  669. SeriousFan09 says:

Pekka Rinne was re-signed for 6.8 over 2 years for 32-16-5 on the season in Nashville, that could be what Halak and his agent are targeting in negotiations or arbitration. Cam Ward was on a 2.5 a year salary with Carolina after his Cup win until he signed his 6-mil per extension this year so that could be another starting point on the negotiations, but the damn Rinne contract is what hurts Montreal thanks to over-valuing of players in abritration and some bad deals around the league.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  670. jimmy shaker says:

The pens will he a lot better to deal with vs the caps in my opinion!

  671. HalGillsNumberOneFan says:

Probably 3-4 Million a year and he’s going to want a multi year deal.. -_-

  672. KenD29 says:

He is a “Restricted” Free Agent. He will not be able to go anywhere just yet unless another team makes an offer the Habs do not match. And in that case, the offering team has to give the Habs their 1st round pick and other compensation.

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  673. mrhabby says:

would like to see them both stay..however, with Halaks play he gets more expensive by the day. if this is how GMS deal with this then halak will have to be traded because there is only so much coin to go around.  we still have a young one in price. Halak could fetch a forward or some assistance on the back end. i don’t think we can keep both as halaks value goes up and up.

  674. VancouverHab says:

    Ha ha!

  675. ed lopaz says:

halak should get between 3 and 3.5 per.

  676. VancouverHab says:

Nope — I miss none of ’em either!

I like it Ash…. I can hear it now coming from Bob Cole:

  678. MontrealAtheist says:

I know we are all a little excited about last night’s win, but let’s hold off planning the Stanley Cup parade just a little bit longer, shall we?

Gotta love Habs fans … one big win in round 1 and everybody starts talking about the Cup … lol

did you know that halak and bernier had the same goalie coach in Lewiston?

    Marc Champagne

Marc Champagne Marc is a highly energetic and passionate goaltending coach who has been developing goalies in Canada, the U.S. and Europe for over 12 years privately, in Minor Hockey Associations and through Sports Etudes programs. He is currently in his 4th year in the QMJHL as a goaltending coach having spent his first 2 years with the Lewiston Maineiacs and is starting his 2nd year with the Acadie-Bathurst Titans. 681. usversusthem says:

If we get by the Caps, and the Pens, someone from the West is gonna win the freakin’ Cup. Bank on it.

  682. ManApart says:

Trust me, they will do whatever has to be done to sign Halak. The guy could be on the cusp of becoming the best in the world. You don’t trade that. Price is just an average goalie right now. That’s the man you trade.

  683. ManApart says:

There wasn’t much of a team last night, besides Halak. I don’t believe there is a goalie in the world that would have did what Halak did last night. He was truly a one man show.

  684. Ian Cobb says:

    That’s very smooth Fred.

This hockey they are now playing is a far cry from what we had to sit through together in Tampa and watch this winter my friend.

  685. terrygain says:

We don’t need and can’t afford a power forward. We’re not going to find one with more skill than AK46. We need 2 policemen.

  686. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

to be totally accurate, you should say. gainey had to “blow up the team that Gainey had built” and assemble a new one.

sing Gainey praises, if you want, but Gainey also built the team that he was forced to blow up.

  687. ed lopaz says:

    Habs hockey = Smart hockey

terry, for all of 46’s skill, I think he missed at least 3 sure goals last night.

once, he was fed a pass, and missed a wide open net to varlemov’s glove side  -wide open.

second and third were loose pucks and passes in front of the caps net that 46 just wiffed on.

he is paid over 3 million to score those goals.

if you want to know what we need, just check out the 3rd and 4th lines of the Caps.

I think any of those 6 guys would be great in a habs uniform – big, strong, committed, not policeman, though, just big, tough, no nonsense players

  688. Caballero says:

AK46 does not have his heart in it. I would package him off, but guaranteed he will score 40 elsewhere. He seems uninterested. Maybe ship SK out and it will improve his focus? If my coach was benching my bro every second game I would not be a happy man.

  689. Storm Man says:

You hit the nail right on the head. AK is not happy with the going ons with his bro. The trade of both of them would land us something good that this team would need.

  690. terrygain says:

Do you see anyone else getting those chances? I see him trying and getting chances. His passing is excellent and he’s the only one on that line who’s hitting. I  agree he’s slightly off but his potential is phenomenal.

  691. forskis says:

We have seen that he is capable of being a number one, but youth has caused inconsistency and the best way for him to get his mojo back consistently is as a backup given that he is still only 22 years old.

“I am guilty of using elipses…”

  692. KenD29 says:

Ovi Who?!!  Juniors, Team Russia …

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

love your sig. i had a brush with his trolliness yesterday. now it makes sense.

  695. tanhaa says:

Amazing game last night.  Halak was on top of the game and that Gill! What a defenseman.  Even though we gave them tons of shots, Montreal’s defense really played very well, especially while killing penalties.
Very happy to see PK in the game, the kid looks really confident.

As far as game 7 is concerned, it doesn’t matter whether they win or lose, the way they performed last night was more than satisfying as far as this team is concerned.  They played their hearts out against a vastly superior team in terms of fire-power.  Impressive to say the least.

Is Lappy going to get a suspension for too many unsportsmanlike calls? And a diving call on Gionta? WTF was that about?  Gionta doesn’t dive.

    Cammy was awesome!

Can’t wait for game 7!  All those Hockey pundits putting Montreal out in 4 must be dumbfounded now.  Didn’t Red and Todd put them out in 4?  Or did Todd say 6?

All in all — last night on the edge of your seat game was just so awesome…. we got really good young talent coming up from our farm team, I think if we don’t make it far this year, we may have a really good next year… barring we do something about the coach.  Why can’t he show some emotions?  Those refs were ridiculous.  They tried everything to get the habs to lose.

Todd: What’s up with Price hatred?  While I love Halak, I think Price is a young goaltender with a lot of talent and potential.  He can fix his attitude, he can bring his A game and we will all be touting his horn at that point.

  696. HABSsince92 says:

Not that you asked me but…..see my post a few down from here.

Been a Habs fan since I was in 2nd grade and sat behind Patrick Roy at the Aud.

  697. jkirk says:

    On Price hatred:

Here’s my explanation: Personally, I became frustrated with the Price situation (not Price himself) when Gainey started him in all of the playoff games last season, in spite of his losses in the playoffs, and the fact that it was Halak’s end-of-season wins that secured the Habs their playoff spot.

What was bothersome was the fact that the only justification for playing Price in the playoffs under those circumstances was that the Habs needed to invest in his ‘development.’ But I wanted the Habs to do all they could to WIN! People who supported the decision to start Price seemed to be arguing that we couldn’t win against the Bruins, so we shouldn’t try our hardest to win, and therefore it was OK to start Price instead of the manifestly superior (at the time) Halak.

Another bothersome element of the debate was that Price supporters thought that those of us who wanted Halak to start were doing so out of some kind of personal animosity to Price, and/or some kind of special affection for Halak. At least in my case, that wasn’t true at all. Neither Price nor Halak chooses who gets to play in net, so the issue was with team management, not either goalie personally.

Then people continued to push Price as the team’s #1 goalie throughout the season, in spite of the fact that we won more games with Halak playing. Price supporters continued to claim that we needed to invest in Price’s development, which more and more obviously became an argument based on the fact that we should play Price if he’s doing well (because it will help us win games at the moment) and if he’s not playing well we should play him because then he will win games for us in the future.

But I care more about the Habs than I do about Price or his development. I want to win games and especially in the playoffs do whatever we can to win every single game. The future doesn’t matter in a playoff game: every game needs to be played with a 100% effort to win.

The fact that we’re managing to do so well against Washington is evidence, though none of course is necessary, that we can beat the best team in the league even if we barely squeak in to the playoffs.

So, the argument for Price seems to be one that is willing to accept losses now for the sake of Price’s improved performance in the future. That’s great if you care about Price more than you do about the Habs. So I think that people ‘hate’ Price because they feel that arguments in his favour place a priority over him personally, rather than the Habs collectively.

  698. KenD29 says:

Re Lappy, if it happened 3 times, he would have been out of the game and a meeting with Collin Campbell.

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  699. Bugs says:

Took a look at the site Ash linked:

“Maybe the caps need to spy on the habs during practice?”

“Halak is a beast and is undefeated when facing 40+ shots! stop shooting and maybe we have a chance?”

“Dear Halak, Enjoy it now. I’m waiting for your soul. -Satan”

Isn’t it fun to watch the fox runnin around the chicken-coop?
