• At a Glance: The Boston Bruins were missing their captain on Saturday night, and the Canadiens took away their will to win with two quick goals en route to a 3-1 win in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Just like in Game 1, the Canadiens got out to an early lead when Michael Cammalleri scored only 43 seconds into the game. Bruins goalie Tim Thomas kicked out a James Wisniewski shot right to Cammalleri, who fired it into an open cage. Less than two minutes later, Mathieu Darche made it 2-0 for the Canadiens. This time, Cammalleri did the passing when he held on to the puck at the side of the net and slid it across to Darche, who also had an open net. The Bruins finally solved Carey Price 7:39 into the second period when Patrice Bergeron redirected a Brad Marchand pass with Price moving the other way. But the Canadiens regained their two-goal lead at 17:21 of the period when Yannick Weber gathered the rebound of a Lars Eller shot for his first goal of the postseason. Price finished with 34 saves.

• Key Moments: After the pre-game warmup, the Bruins announced that Zdeno Chara would not play Saturday after being hospitalized overnight Friday to be treated for dehydration.

• What It Means: The Canadiens hold a 2-0 lead over the Bruins heading back to Montreal.

• What’s Next: Game 3 of the series is Monday night in Montreal at 7:30 p.m. and Game 4 is Thursday at 7 p.m. Game 5, if necessary, will be in Boston next Saturday.

Incredible!! Get pounded twice there in our last two trips and we go in there and take two right off the bat!! What a great team effort and Carey was spectacular.

Still not close to being over with, Boston has played us tough in Montreal on many nights so they have to be completely focused on Game 3 and not looking ahead……

    Go Habs Go!!!

  3. GUNKA DIN says:

The Brooons are not built to win a Cup. They are big, they are hitters, they can even score.
But the way they play is to hit and make mayhem and score on rebounds in the traffic.

But May is short of hem. And haw. The teams that crumble and become disorganized when hit adidn’t make the playoffs, and the ones that did, do not lose their cool. Their passing is crisp, their systems are working on offence and defence.

Tim Thomas is a great goalie against poor teams but merely average against good teams. And he worked more poor teams and rested more against good teams. So his season average looks great, but when you eliminate the teams he did well against before the playoffs, the ones that are left score a lot better on him. A lot of work will probably tire him out. I say give him a long rest after two more games.

As for Brooons coaching? Ya gotta coach with what ya got. Decades of big Broon Bruisers choking in the playoffs, and they still recruit big bruisers.

They need smart hockey players with built in Compete. Speed kills. It lets you pick your spots. It lets you set the tempo.

    Like the Habs.

They have Ryder, we have Gomez. Who would you rather have in the clutch?

Nobody is ever gonna beat Henri Richard’s record for Cup rings.

Chara, you, the SOB, now you know the Karma!

I hope I can fully recover from the “Hit”.

There are two side’s to every story so, since I was born and raised in MTL for 22 years before moving to the states, including a stint in Boston between 90 & 95 ( I was two rows behind the Habs bench for their game 7 exit at the gahden) I will assume the responsibility of explaining the course of this series so far. First the simpleton’s view. Chara was out!!!! Then throw in the obligatory bad calls from the refs (eventhough the team has a direct pipe- line to the NHL office thanks to e-mailing dad Campbell) the story is as old as the franchise for theese fans. CONSPIRACY! The league has it in for us. Yeah. How many shooters were on the grassynoll again? Now let’s take the cerebral approach to this denoument in the series. Chara was out, but so is Markov, Georges, Pachioretti, and this for the better part of our season. Not to mention other man-power losses throughout the season. So what is the difference? Oh! Where are the trade deadline pick-ups for the bruins????? Where? Have you noticed any of ‘em? Absolutely not. We got Mara. We scoffed…I did. Yet he hasn’t played a game in this series I would not mind seeing him on the ice because he’s night & day from last year. Tough and consistent…and cheap. Yeah. We’ve played banged up from day one of this season yet made a run for the division title untill the bruins gooned it up. Charma is a bitch. Go habs go… In 4

  6. sp00k says:

The more I think about it, the more I find it hard to believe that Chara missed the game because of dehydration.
I would have thought that, short of a family issue or a severe injury, there would be no way to keep Chara from playing.

We now know (after the check the underpants comment), that the hard on Mr. Cherry has for PK is literal. Who would have thought?

    • Mr. Cherry is an idiot! He is simply Lady Gaga for Hockey commentary (no insult meant to Lady Gaga, she is an excellent performer!). He is all Boston, with limited true knowledge of the games psychology. Shocking that he learned so little from all those years as a coach, etc… He’ll soon be dead as will his illegal wardrobe. The world will be rid of one less fool throwing his ugly mug in front of the camera for their 15 minutes of fame. Bring back Dick Irvin!

    • Thenumber11 says:

With severe dehydration your body just can’t go like you want it; cherry was right in saying its not like an injury when you’re sick.

I expected him back in, but if the dehydration was still affecting him enough your body just will not be able to function at a level to play an nhl playoff game. I hate the big ogre but I don’t really find it hard to believe, or even think he’s a puss puss, that he missed the game because of it.

  7. JohnBellyful says:

That was a super effort by the Habs. Apart from one blown coverage by Gomez and a bad after-the-whistle penalty by Hamr, the team played lights out. (It does need to work on faceoffs, though. Stop the presses.)
Pyatt’s playing fierce hockey, Weber gave a solid performance, Soppel has met the challenge. Gionta, Cammy and Pleks are living up to expectations. And Eller takes a beating and keeps on ticking.

    ******

To all the HIO Channellers: Congrats on Operation Cluster Fluster. It worked to a T tonight. And giant kudos to the Elite Mental Assault Squad. Your assignment Thursday was to get inside Chara’s head. The assignment included: Induce incontinence. It obviously worked. He got the runs and then dehydrated.
Monday’s mission will be unveiled a few hours before game time.

Actually I believe Chara is suffering from Pacior-itis — hopefully he’ll need a Pacior-ectomy soon!

  10. novahab says:

Good news Boston I hear all the bars in Montreal will allow Chara to drink for free. On a sour note Molsons needs to complain about those crooks in strip that did their best to give the Bruims evey advatage . Then closed their eyes and allowed the goons to get away with murder.

  11. 365fan says:

Tonight was all about hard work. The boys refused to lose.

ps. what do they feed Pyatt before the playoffs? I forgot how good he was last year.

  12. sidhu says:

Anyone have a link to the Cammy interview where his answers are very short, direct because of his focus? It was before game 1.

  13. blu3chip says:

    • _Habsoloutly_ says:

So true. Bush league commentary at its best. Unfortunately it fits right in line with the NHL, which has become just as bush.

    • CranbrookEd says:

Yes, the Danish comment came from the play-by-play booth . . . and was pretty low . . . however, speaking of Mr. Lars Eller, he will be a first or second line centre in a couple of years. What moves coupled with being a fair sized guy . . . if he can put on some weight/muscle over the summer, watch for him to have a break out season complete with points, in a year or two!!

Mr. Beliveau: “Pure Pak mais oui”!

    • Lawrencetown Liquor Pigs says:

Healy used the Danish line. I thought it was great, he was pointing out that he took heat from five Bruins to keep the puck in their end all by himself. It was a compliment to how he was competing against the rough and tumble “Canadian” style Bruins players.

Healy hasn’t been bad at all these last two games, Galley has been as impartial as he can be, and outside of not knowing who is on the ice, Bob Cole hasn’t been too bad either. At least Cole has that cool voice and old school style…..

Cherry on the other hand, oh boy. I’ll admit I never had any serious issues with what he said until this year, but I think the MTL run last spring really knocked his dementia into overdrive……

  14. habsfan0 says:

While winning the first 2 games on the road is nice, hope the boys don’t get overconfident because of it. In 2006, Habs won the first 2 games on road vs Carolina, then proceeded to drop the next 4. However, Cristobal Huet is no Carey Price. Habs have now won 6 out of 8 games vs Bruins this season.

    • Big Ted says:

And 11 out of 14 dating back to last season too. The Bruins have only won once on our ice in the last two years and it was Super Bowl weekend. In an afternoon game. When we were playing the second half of a back to back. They’re a good road team, so you never know, but they’ll have work to do and the crowd is going to be fickle.

    • 365fan says:

Agreed. Thankfully we have Gionta and Gill on this team

The 4th line played great, I was hoping for a PYATT goal, he palyed awesome! The play of the game was Martin with his arms around WHITE coming him down, White is a warrior but also an awesome player, he doesn’t need to fight but standing up to the opposition players does send a message! GO HABS GO!

  18. otisfxu says:

As I said earlier ths week,,,,,look at Boston lineup,,,,no names there that you would say are going to take a team to the cup.

Habs are just way too fast and playing way smarter than these morons. Sorry Claude but another walking ticket for you.

    Keys to the game:

    1. Speed – skate, skate and skate some more – keep the feet moving
    2. No dumb penalties – that especially goes for POULIOT
    3. Price HUGE in net again
    4. Be the first to score (I don’t care who scores or what line, but the first one is a B’s killer)

    • I agree. Be the first to score. This is crucial. If the Bruins DON’T score within the first 10-12 minutes or within the first period, they and their fans will get restless making it difficult to later on in the game to score and win this one.

” The Habs will win the Cup ONLY with Carey Price in the Nets “

  28. observer says:

Low scoring , few penalties called by BETTMAN’S SLAVE REFS – you knew that would not last for long! And I said it 2 days ago. Last 2 days BETTMAN HAS ORDERED HIS REFS TO GET BACK TO CALLING POWER PLAYS I MEAN MAKE THE OTHER TEAM PLAY WITH ONE LESS MAN THEN call 5 on 3 penalties and that surely will mean more goals in the tiny man’s huge brain. Also start disallowing goals in case the penalties are not getting the right team to win.

EXPECT MANY penalties called tonight in the BETTMAN CROOKED HOCKEY LEAGUE!
