It wasn’t as easy as the New York Rangers were making it for a time, seeing their 4-0 win slip back to a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal final Thursday.
Elsewhere, Chris Kelly scored at 1:18 into overtime and Tim Thomas earned a 17-save shutout, carrying the defending Stanley Cup-champion Boston Bruins to a 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals.
In St. Louis, it went until 11:15 pm ET before Marty Havlat one-timed the winner at 3:34 of the second overtime past Blues goaltender Jaroslav Halak, giving the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 victory.
And in Phoenix, the we-like-it-here Coyotes beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 in overtime on a goal 9:29 into extra time by Martin Hanzal
