Arpon’s blog post this morning made mention that Price received 1.87 GPG support past season. Now, I don’t have the time to crunch those numbers myself but Arpon’s good people and generally pretty reliable, so I’ll run on the basis that he’s accurate. In order for a goalie to consistently win games when the team is scoring 1.87 goals per game, he’d need a GAA south of 2.00 – or at least in that vicinity since let’s face it some nights are going to be your 4-3 or 5-1 games – which would have him the league leader in that category. Only Rask, at 1.97, was under 2.00 last year. Obviously that would have been awesome if Carey was sporting a 1.86 GAA (and imagine the SV% on that!) but given that most of the best goalies last year were in the 2.20-2.30 range, it’s a little unrealistic.
Hockey is a team game. Sometimes the goalie is going to have an off-night, sometimes the offence isn’t going to click, and sometimes you’ll have both. All of those factors go into a loss. It’s not just “oh Price let in one bad goal and that totally deflated the team so that’s why they lost” – I think people tend to hyperinflate the negative value of a stinker goal against, given that they’re all professional athletes and shouldn’t be affected for the remaining 37:13 of the game if Carey lets in an ugly one at 2:47 of the second period.

i think it’s kinda split. for everyone calling him a “bust” there are people calling him a future superstar. There is always lots of presure on top10 draft picks especially in montreal and escpecially at teh goalie position. Habs maybe shouldn’t have hyped up price as much as they did but i’m sure he’ll work through it. I expect PK to have ups and down but he has a support crew arround him to help coach/mentor him into the position so i think there will be more tolerance towards his play

The deal is done. No more speculation on when he will sign and for how much and for how long.
Price must now demonstrate to the many faithful and there are many, by playing up to his ability
and potential and cease this opportunity to become the netminder that management and fans
believe he is capable of becoming. Nothing less will be accepted after so much has been invested
in this promising young man. Only Price can become that “thoroughbred”. Does he have what it
takes to lead this team to success? Does he have it in him to become a star in this league?
Only time will tell but he has been given 2 years to show us and more importantly, himself, that
he is the real deal.

while we have markov and pk i believe we need at least one more d with speed…as of now we have 5 slow d in hammer,spacek,gill,gorges and obyrne who provide minimal support for our forwards in the offensive zone as they have to be conservative due to their lack of speed.

Probably every goalie’s ASG stats would be a GAA well north of 3, which would be terrible by regular season standards…and yet these guys are all-stars, what’s up with that? I mean Brodeur? He sucks at the ASG! Miller? Terrible at the ASG! Roy always sucked at the ASG!

When on the radio, he sometimes sounds like a guy who knows what he’s talking about and someone who’s respected by many. But the more you listen to him, the more he sounds like Michel Bergeron, always referring to when Hartley won the Cup with the Avs.
