Suffering Canadiens withdrawal? The Gazette has the answer with the ultimate fantasy experience as beat writer Pat Hickey and Gazette techie Eric Tobon employ EA Sports NHL 13 to produce The Season That Isn’t. Here’s how things might have looked in Saturday night’s game between the Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center.

DENVER _ Carey Price made 27 saves for a shutout but the goaltender said one stop was the difference in the Canadiens’ 2-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche Saturday night at the Pepsi Centre.
“Someone, I think it was Stastny, took a shot from the corner and it was deflected in front,” explained Price. “There were a lot of bodies in front of the net and I didn’t see the puck until the last second. I got my stick on it but I couldn’t control the rebound and I was lucky that Josh (Gorges) cleared it.”
The stop on Paul Stastny was crucial because the score was tied at 0-0.
“The first goal is so important and they sagged a little bit when they missed the opportunity and then we scored two or three minutes later.”
Rene Bourque, who has rebounded from a poor finish last spring and abdominal surgery in the off-season, opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 14:11 of the first period. Colorado goaltender Semyon Varlamov stopped P.K. Subban’s rising slapshot from the point but he left a rebound for Bourque.
“There are times when P.K. doesn’t know where he’s shooting but the goalies don’t know either,” Bourque said with a laugh. “I thought he was going to take Varlamov’s head off with that shot.”
The Canadiens seemed intent on sitting on the lead and were being outshot 19-8 when Brian Gionta added a shorthanded goal at 17:33 of the second period. Colorado defenceman Erik Johnson failed to control the puck at the point and then compounded his error by falling as he tried to turn. That gave Gionta a clear path to the goal and he jammed the puck between the goaltender’s pads after Varlamov made the initial save.
“It was late in the period and the ice was getting bad,” said Gionta. ”It was about 60 degrees today and the puck was bouncing around a lot. I think we finished with 13 or 14 shots. We say back a little and put some pressure on Carey but we got a two big wins on the road.”
The Canadiens now play their first back-to-back games of the season, meeting the Nashville Predators Monday at the Bell Centre before travelling to New Jersey on Tuesday.

That’s about right. All he could win are fantasy games.
In other news, Allan Walsh is seen outside EA sports protesting.
Still looks like the Habs are one or two Tanks™ away from contending.
Hehe, at least one more. Sasha Barkov and a handful of good 2nd round picks should fill the prospects cupboard nicely…
Hate the Leafs with a passion but Kadri is finally showing the stuff that made him a 7th overall pick.
dogsplaybyplay – In staged fight, 5’10″, 186-pound Gabriel Dumont drops 6’5″, 213-pound Joe Colborne with huge roundhouse right. Colborne leaves ice bleeding
That was the highlite of the game! The Bulldogs are terrible! This is the future? How did Blunden ever play in the NHL and why isn’t Gomez playing for the Bulldogs?
Ryan Murray has a dislocated shoulder, potentially opening up a spot on the Team Canada Defence for the WJC depending on how quick he’s healthy.

Dr. McKenzie says shoulder dislocations are tricky. Depends how much damage done. Some rebound quickly, others require surgery. MRI key now
I want a second opinion.

Whoa ! Dumont! Right on the Button!
I meant the three talking heads between the periods..I am not even interested in what their names are…but yes Millethead is pretty bad, not as bad as my all time hated one McGuire..but he is up there…but back to those three..don’t know who they are but they are clearly Leaf/Marlie fans..the best goalie fight was Potvin and Hextall? Are they kidding…what a crazy game this is…lots of fights..and what the hell was that Marlie goalie trying to do…but this beats cleaning the bathroom..
they’re all idiots, he’s not on today but I am not a big Kypreos fan either
Edit: or is he? i tend to hit the mute button when they start their mindless drivel.
Teach you! You big jerk…Dumont with the TKO!!
And the Leaf or Marlie announcers won’t give us a replay…hahaha
Aw man, I need to see this.
DUMONT With the big right!!!
these refs are horrible
DarrenDreger – PA response requested. Daly:”We told them that we are open to discussing other ways to address issues if they want to propose any.” “we used example of “if we need 5 and we have proposed 3+2 to get there, we are happy to listening to and considering 4+1 instead.”
And in completely unrelated news;
RenLavoieRDS – NHL CBA talks will resume Monday in New York.
Snider responds to earlier news story;

Am I the only one that thinks these 3 sportsnet guys are nimrods…in particular the one with the glasses..
I don’t know which three you’re talking about, but yes, nimrods, definitely.
P.S. I’ll take a wild guess and say John Shannon came on to defend the NHL/Bettman the same way Darren Dreger did on twitter after this Ed Snider story came out.
Man you got it bad!!
Is that what happened though? It probably was wasn’t it? ; )
Actually a bunch of Leaf homers…same same as NHLPA supporters
who was on the panel?
Brad May, one of the TO pressies and a SportsNet guy.
Ahhh! Brad may is OK sometimes, but I don’t imagine he’s got much for job security so that could maybe make he just say what “the people” want to hear.
2 minutes after I tuned in Ryan left his feet to hit St-denis behind the net… Stortini came along to put foot to ass…
Commentator: “The hit wasn’t that bad.”
so no you are not the only one who thinks they’re all nimrods.
Ottawa’s Jared Cowen is out for the season.

Sortini loses his sh*t on Ryan.
rightly so IMO.
+1
I’m a huge proponent of the Habs needing to get bigger but watching Gallagher out there is truly inspiring. He doesn’t back down from anyone, goes to the net every chance he gets and battles with dmen that are 6 ’4. Love this kid. Just sucks that we already have DD and Gionta, having two 5’7 or 5’8 guys in your top 6 is troubling enough, adding a third is too much of a ‘small’ thing…
I’ve always thought Gallagher is Gionta 2.0, he has the potential to be his replacement in a few years. Gio is 32-33 now?
Gallagher’s developmental timeline will dovetail perfectly with Gionta’s present contract. We’ll know more by then.
Two years from now Gallagher might need another year as a 3rd liner which would keep Gionta as the top six guy. Then in 2015-16 they could switch.
We could then trade our hard working 3rd line captain to Colorado along with Carey Price:-)
Don’t forget pk and Galchenyuk in that deal! Trade em all to Buffalo for Grigorenko!!!
Nash throwing left handed hay makers. Not sure Acton was expecting that. I wasn’t.
Acton of The Marlies found out that Nash is a lefty when it comes to fighting…..
Nash just Destroyed that Marlie!
The bulldogs are playing great today……………………………
Beaulieu has an elbow injury according to Derek Wills and Greg Millen. Not a healthy scratch as TVA reported.

Down 4-0. Nothing is going right this game. Mayer gifts them their 3rd goal. 4th goal is from a deflection off of Tinordi’s skate right into the net during a random PP given to the Marlies.
After a great game from Avtsin, we see the issues with him today… so inconsistent, bad performance today. Poor defensive effort.
Mayer also sucks today.

In fairness, all 21 Players in a Hamilton Bulldogs uniform were terrible that period. Pointing out just a couple of them isn’t really fair. They all struggled.
The tinman is not having a very good day on defence. Trying to make hits and missing, playing Gill and deflecting one in. He’s not the only one making young mistakes but it looks more prevalent with him as we tend to push more for him.
Marlies up 3-0 with 6 minutes to go in the first – Kinda like The Bdogs & Marlies game a few weeks back when Toronto lead 5-0 at one point in the game……
1-0 Marlies on the PP after Stortini takes a dumb penalty.
Beaulieu is out today with a “minor injury”.

Every mistake the Dogs make today is ending up in the net. Not good so far.
PK leading contender for the Norris and Price going for the Veniza.
How sweet it is!
