Canadiens goaltender Carey Price is confirmed in goal tonight vs. the Buffalo Sabres. This after Price left his team’s morning skate in Brossard early, seemingly favouring his right knee.
A whole lot of clinic patients on the ice this morning: Tomas Plekanec, Jeff Halpern, Mathieu Darche and Brett Sopel all skated, all said to be day-to-day. There might be a few game-time decisions this evening, but don’t bet on any of the four being in the lineup.
And defencemen Andrei Markov and Jaroslav Spacek skated a little on their own, first reported by our friends at CKAC Sports. Markov isn’t expected to be back in action this season, having undergone ACL surgery, though Spacek is targeting a return for the playoffs.

Moahahaha… Like and Dislike buttons.
Umm Im pretty sure its pronounced… “Muhahahaha”
First post in the new format. Used to be CharlottetownHabbies, but haven’t lived in Charlottetown for 5 or 6 years so thought the new site was a good excuse to change the persona.
I think like most posters I’m happy with where the team stands and am excited for the future. 2 plus rounds this spring isn’t out of the question, but a full roster next year should really mean good things eh?
“Sorry for being obnoxious, props for being generous,
y’all down, we booze hounds, take two drinks and pass.”
If you’re still looking for suggestions, here’s a suggestion: Put a suggestion box up at the top of the page. Cuz if you had a suggestion box I would post the following suggestion:
As others have commented before they went snow blind, there’s too much white space. It’s become a site for sore eyes, and the shrunken avatars do little to colour the landscape.
Why not give the background a touch of blue and turn it into a pale version of a hockey rink with lines, nets and whatnot (for gawd’s sake make sure it doesn’t resemble the Bell Centre).
As we scroll down the page, we would have the sensation of moving down the ice toward the enemy net (taking care not to be drawn offside by some of the posters).
Alternatively, you could have the comments appear over the visage of Jacques Martin, so the coach could face his critics. With a bit of Photoshopping, you could even have him sticking out his tongue.
Or have a player of the week be the guest wallpaper. Let’s start with PK.
I like the ice blue and lines idea, some of the other stuff may be too complex but let’s ask if they can do the pale blue. Looks too much like an Apple site as is.
Mes amis?
Holy crap. My new abbatoir worked, I didn’t hink it would.
Thanks guys!
You’ve been workin’ out, haven’t you, you little devil. So how many bag skates a week do you do?
Your new slaughterhouse worked?

Welcome to the newer NHL: The National Head-shots League.
My French ain’t so good but are you asking me who your friends are? LA, we’re one big, happy family here. And if you want names Gravatar could probably provide them. Which is why you won’t be seeing an avatar beside my name. I’m going to remain a Man of Mystery. (I have to admit the outline is spot on, but I’m not as tanned as my doppelganger.)
If I were to choose an avatar, it would be a thumb’s up.
Yeah, bigger avatars!
Cuz I got some SWEET ones, knowumsayin?
Chillin like MacMillan, potty-boy says he’s L. B. Potter, esq.
Taking into account that he drew two penalties last game for doing it, the over/under number of times Poolio falls on his azz for NO reason THIS game (yes, I’ll count’em) stands at 3.5.
Thumb it.

This will definitely be a tough game for the Habs. The Sabres are desperate and want the two points to solidify their position in the standings. With the Hurricanes, Laughs and Devils knocking on the door, they really need the points. Habs need them to get past those big bag Bruins…
Here’s a quick preview of the game on HiD: http://bit.ly/hfNilG

According to TSN: The club signed defenseman Joe Stejskal to a two-year entry level contract. Stejskal has five points (3 goals and 2 assists) in 33 games this season with the NCAA’s Dartmouth College Big Green. He will report to the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs.
Here is a report on him:

Hm, good find. Looks like he’s already gotten bigger since that was published mid-February.
http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=556836
Like many posters, I have been intrigued by the 2010-11 schedule for the Canadiens. So a little research. During the season, the Canadiens play 16 back-to-back games, 39% of their schedule including three consecutive sets of back-to-backs in the first ten days of February. In addition, they play six three games in four nights including a trio at the end of 2010 which involved three games (two of which went into OT) and three flights within 93 hours and one four games in six nights. For these back-to-back games, on all but two occasions, the Canadiens had to travel for the next game. In only three of the fifteen back-to-backs, did the opposition also play the night before. Out of a possible 60 points up for grabs so far, the Canadiens have garnered 32. The good news is that there is only one back-to-back set left for the Habs. A cursory glance at the NHL schedule reveals that most teams play at least a dozen back-to-backs. This scheduling is grossly unfair to the team doing the back end of the back-to-back, especially if there is travel involved and/or if the first game goes into OT. MLB through the insistence of their players’ association did away with doubleheaders which the players with the exception of Ernie Banks – “It’s a beautiful day for a ballgame… Let’s play two” – did not like. Surely, the NHL can also eliminate back-to-backs but I hear the rumour (perhaps an urban legend) that the NHL schedule is still done by hand, not a computer.
interesting thoughts but I know for certain that a computer is now used…back to backs are the result of 30 teams playing 82 games each in arenas used for multiple purposes (concerts, circuses, trade shows…) all within a 7 month timeframe.
DrewCareyOnRewardless is pretty much right, much as I’d love to think there was conspiracy. I personally hate afternoon games.
Kings had a 10 game road trip this year, most teams could find things to complain about. Hopefully next year we can mitigate the damage by being a deeper team with few injuries and either playing Auld more or getting a higher-grade backup goalie.
Are any of you nervous going into the playoffs with Price having played so much and Auld having played so little?
excellent work Grumpy thanks…. we can add it to the list of atrocities against the HABS:
MOST PENALTIES
LEAST POWER PLAYS
REF SYNDICATE BIAS NIGHTLY
NO JUSTICE…. EVER.
WORST TILTED UNFAIR SCHEDULE
well that should just about level the playing field…
Not if the OTHER teams start using all-caps to make their totally ridiculous points, it won’t.
What’ll we do THEN?
Btw, Mtl is 10th for penalty minutes per game and ranks 15th for power-play opportunities, so HARDLY “most” and “least”, wouldn’t you say?
Next is “ref bias, no justice ever” and “unfair schedule”..
I mean…(sigh), you know what, “professor”? Nevermind.
Chillin like MacMillan, potty-boy goes by the moniker L. Bugs Potter, esq.
Curious… does Stubbsy have to change his twitter account too?
Request: Could we please have an << Older Comments link at the top of the page too? Or maybe arrange it so the END key takes us to the end instead of the beginning.
What a pain in the but, uploading my picture to Gravatar. And what a disappointment it is to have to endure all these ad’s on the site. That was one of the appealing aspects to this site was that it had a member centered feel to it. All our support and constant logging in has driven up to ratings thus enabling big sponsors to advertise here. Where is our reward? FYI you can squeeze in a few more ad’s along the left side-or is that next months surprise?
Found this in regard to Gravatar. Incidentally does HIO get a cut for each Gravatar user?
I’m a lawyer specialising in internet and privacy issues at a Fortune 100 company and I personally think that Gravatar is easily the worst service available in terms of your data security and privacy. I generally don’t comment on any blogs that are Gravatar-enabled (this being an exception), for the following reasons:
1.
The entire reason Gravatar offers their service is to collect internet usage data across multiple sites. It is not offered free out of the goodness of their heart. The entire purpose of the service is to analyse the way YOU navigate the internet.
2.
Gravatar has clear plans to monetise this data. Whether they are successful or not is another story.
3.
It is unlikely that Gravatar would ever disclose individual user’s personal information, but it is not impossible. The Chinese government has often requested to these kind of information aggregators to disclose data for the prosecution of political dissidents – and very often these requests are met resulting in bloggers being jailed (see Yahoo!’s experiences in China). For example, if I leave a number of comments promoting democracy criticising the PRC government on various blogs, it is entirely possible that the Chinese government could use legal authority to request the holder of information to disclose that to them. By retaining this information and preventing you from stoppping it’s collection, Gravatar is putting both bloggers and commenters at risk. This is not just in China. The Patriot Act and many other new pieces of post-9/11 legislation in Western countries convey similar powers to government.
4.
The most egregious part of Gravatar’s service is the inability to stop them from collecting your data. I have in the past tried to cancel a Gravatar registration. Gravatar does not allow this and will continue to track your e-mail address for the rest of time.
5.
Gravatar does not provide any details about how they use your personal information and does not respond to any queries relating to privacy issues.
6.
I do not believe Gravatar is an opt-in service. Obviously they will not display an avator unless you register, but if a blog is Gravatar-enabled, every time you comment on it, your e-mail address is sent to Gravatar. Even if they do not retain this address (and it is quite possible that they do – their Privacy Policy is silent on this point and they have not responded to any of my enquiries on this point), it is VERY likely that your internet usage is still tracked in an anonymous fashion. That is, if I use the same e-mail address to comment on 5 different blogs, even if I am not a registered Gravatar user the fact that a user has accessed those 5 blogs is very likely retained by Gravatar.
Much is made of facebook and Google Chrome’s use of personal information, but Gravatar is far and away the worst popular internet service I have encountered in terms of user (and non-user) personal information.
As a lawyer, I strongly urge all blog authors and users who are concerned about their privacy to avoid Gravatar.

You don’t have to endure ads. Get Firefox and add on Adblock plus. You’ll rarely, if ever see ads on any site.

http://www.habseyesontheprize.com/
I haven’t noticed an increase in traffic.
Wow. I just wanted to change my primary email at Gravatar and I can’t. I then found out as you stated that Gravatar profiles cannot be deleted. This is a definite invasion of my privacy. As a lawyer would you know who can I contact within the Canadian government so that they force Gravatar to comply with my desire to delete my account there? This is surely a privacy concern.
not for nuthin’ but i miss having an avatar…just not that much. If HIO would be so kind as to validate or dismiss the above allegations, it would be much appreciated…in fact, signing up with gravatar should have come with a warning from HIO if the above is true…

awesome. Thanks Robert
Glad to hear Carey is playing.
Its pretty encouraging to see markov back on skates 3 weeks before the playoffs start.
Just was on TSN and saw that the video segment had “How will they cope” in relation to the Canucks losing Manny Malhotra. My internet is slow so I cant check the video but seriously. How about how the Canadiens are coping with the loss of Markov (best defenseman), Plekanec (best forward), Paches (best power forward), Gorges (best defensive defenseman) and so on. Or how about how the Penguins are coping without two of the best players in the game. How will the Canucks cope? Seriously? Its Manny Malhotra. I like the guy but cmon.
Please if someone saw this video could you please justify this headline.
There’s more than one team in the league, and Malhotra is current news?
at least it’s not another leafs headline
Agreed.
I just find the headline “how will they cope” sounds so dire.
I think I’m just overly bitter with all our injuries
Does anybody have a complete list of Canadiens on Twitter
Here is all I have been able to find.
MaxPacioretty67 – Max Pacioretty
MCammalleri13 – Michael Cammalleri

Go Habs Go!
Had the Montreal Canadiens doc, Dr. Mulder, come give a lecture for my kinesiology classes… managed to ask him about the health of certain players. Plek and Halpern are day to day… meaning they are just waiting for them to come to 100% functionality, should be any day, and I dont think they want to rush it b/c we’d rather have him at 100% for the playoffs than 90% and have him back earlier. As for Pax…. he said minimum of 6 weeks because thats how long it takes for a vertebrae to regenerate. THe concussion is minimum of 2 weeks if you are unconscious for more than 5 mins, but thats not what is keeping him out. So hopefully he will be only 6 weeks… but u never know.
other interesting facts from the lecture:
- biggest medical problems in the NHL: LACK OF SLEEP….leads to players taking sleeping pills…. leading to addiction. Turns out the NHL docs have a meeting every All star game to discuss current problems.
- A. Kost has a special type of epilepsy, but is on meds for it so he can play and not have any issues.
- During the regular season, both teams will use the home team’s doctor during games for whatever they need. But during the playoffs each team’s doctor travels with the team because they dont trust the home team doctor (as he can tell the other teams best player that he cant play etc so that their team wins.. etc)
Some more interesting facts:
- The basic neurological test done to test if someone has a concussion in game was made by doctors at the McGill Sports Science Lab. It is now used across the NHL.
- When there is muscle damage after a laceration or strain/sprain etc etc.. technology is so advanced that they can predict how and when the tissue will repair and know almost precisely when the player is ready to go… its not a blind guess anymore.
- And probably the most interesting (but least surprising fact). I asked him about the new rule changes involving head shots and the rule that a player has to be checked out by the doc before returning on the ice.. he said this was pretty much already in place, only discrepancy was that the trainer had a little bit of power and now that has been removed. But he said they pretty much did nothing at the GM meeting, and that he thinks there should be a blanket ban on headshots.
Prevention is key, treatment for concussions is limited.
He disclosed confidential medical information in public ???????
No, it seemed that everyone already knew about that info. I think the info that is relevant to playing hockey (epilepsy, heart defects etc) are well known in the hockey (and sports world).
PS: He also said that both Markov and Georges WONT be back by the end of the season…. sucks I know.
Big thumbs up for this one Spartan, thanks much!
(copy and pasted above)
Great post.
Thank you.
I love the thumbs up and down feature! great job HIO team
All hands on deck Thursday.
Quite frankly, I am starting to get a little upset that we still do not know the status of Pleks! Jeez, why doesn’t anyone in this organiztaion have a timetable for his return!!?
That’s what day to day means, like, small injury, any day now!
What about Sopel, has he even played a game with us yet? I would like to see if he is going to fit in, he has a ring already!
fyi sopel is 5-0-0 in a habs uni
I don’t think we have given up a powerplay goal in a game he’s played either.
After acquiring him from Atlanta, he played in the four games we won before he was injured.
Oops, my mistake, make that five games.
Yeah, he played 5 games with us, we won them all, then he broke a bone in his wrist. Welcome back.
I don’t know that I want Spacek back for the playoffs. I really like Mara’s play right now. We need his grit back there. He sticks up for every guy on that team. Spacek doesn’t play that way.
And We’re gonna need that come playoff time.

Mara is playing well now but Spatch has skated a thousand more game-time miles than him…that’s nice to have in the playoffs too.
Saw your question about the legitimacy of the Bruin story pertaining to their play after Pac-Man incident I posted yesterday only later.
Yes, it was legitimate, Drew.

Wow, my Avatar is back. It actually worked
Wow! What’s up guys? Nice layout. Sooo…haven’t been here in a while. Actually haven’t caught a game since November. Been in Africa see. What have I missed? Can I get like a 30 word summary on the habs and maybe a list of the latest trolls? Ooo look, thumbs! When did we get all these new toys?
Welcome back! I’m not equal to the 30 word summary (too lazy), but did you hear about the Pacioretty / Chara thing?
Hey wd, how are you? Nope, haven’t heard of the MaxPac/Chara thing. I’mma google it right now. Hold Up.
the web age is a scary place. it used to be i would not hear anything about the price scare….
So what is this talk of Markov skating?
Is he just taking a casual skate or is there any chance of him trying to play in the playoffs?
ANYBODY???
Most unlikely. He is just getting into form. I don’t think anybody is expecting him to return for playoffs.
Go! Hockey! Go!
Hopefully we can soon have a filter on these thumbs ratings so we can optionally hide all the strongly negatively-rated posts, saving a lot of scrolling!
The one thing I have to say about this team is that we’re real close! If we had Markov, Gorges and Pacioretty in our lineup, and the other minor injuries erased, we’d be right there with the Canucks, Flyers and Caps. I’d even put us a head of the Flyers and Caps!
Even without the above listed players I think we can do some damage.
We’d be over the top good if Gauthier was able to trade for a true power forward, Pacioretty is good for one line, and add a couple nasty 3rd/4th line players this summer…
I can confidently say that our days of sneaking into the playoffs are over and we’re a player or two away from truly contending for a cup.
Imagine if Gomez could score!!!!
TSN just ran a story about how the Canucks were going to ‘cope’ with the loss of Malhotra. Have we had even one story on how big the loss of Markov was? How about Gorges? How about Pacioretty (plenty of talk about the hit, his impact on the team not so much)? What about Plekanec, Halpern, Sopel, Spacek…
There should be a special on how much of an improvement there is with Spacek injured…
hey, don’t forget the loss of Price for about 6 minutes this morning!
Classic TSN eh? Not much can be said that isn’t already known about the Mainstream English Media treat this franchise.
Wow go away for a lunch and a pop and come back and thumbs everywhere. Do we get itenerary showing all the planned future changes?
I find the thumbs down feature is a much better way of communicating with HH

Greetings all…first time poster (promise not a troll in disguise, as I see there has been a few new ones recently). With the news that Markov has at least started skating…Spacek aiming to come back for the playoffs, etc., and so many UFAs at the end of this season…who stays, who goes? I would personally really hate to lose Gill and Wiz…but what’s your thoughts?
Do we have to do this now? What if the folks we pick do an utter shank-job in the playoffs and those we didn’t take us to the promised land?
We need more DATA.
Heck, for all we know, Marky is out the door already.

1st shot at this new format, testing……..GO HABS GO!
“Go Habs go”???
Who IS this guy?
Chillin like MacMillan, potty-boy goes by the moniker L. Bugs Potter, esq.
I know! it’s “go hockey go” from now on on this site young fella!
You know who’s I’d like to see in a Habs Jersey, Rick Nash. With the Habs need for a top six goal scorer with size and given that no matter what players are on D it seems we have a great D, I’d say trade Subban while his Value is high for Rick Nash, I’d even throw in Eller and a 1st if Columbus is stingy.
would give up the next 3 first round picks and a prospect for this trade, ive been saying this forthe past 2 years, it’ll never happen, but a man can dream
I would argue that a Great offensive & defensive D man, which Subban shows every indication of becoming, is much more valuable than a top six goal scorer.
Insteada of that, how ’bout we KEEP Soobie and Columbus STAYS in the cellar with Nash?
Cuz so far, that’s worked out pretty good for us, no?
Chillin like MacMillan, potty-boy goes by the moniker L. Bugs Potter, esq.
Given Nash chose to resign in Columbus rather than go to free agency a year later, I think it speaks volume to the fact he loves being the big fish in a small pond. This guy was 1 year away from being able to hand pick anywhere he wants to go and signs long term in Columbus. Place is a bball/football hockey distant 4th town. Hard to believe he would want the pressure cooker of Montreal.
Having said all that, he would be Awesome, just don’t see him doing it.
Guess he likes the extra 4-8 weeks of summer vacation he gets in Columbus.
Are you out of your mind!!!!
Nash would be a player the habs would definitely covet. But you have to look at other factors, such as salary. Columbus would have to take more back than the salaries you are providing here. Also Subban has to be the closest thing we have to untouchable right now. Price is untouchable as well
I’m wondering if this thumbs up/down feature will be useful for only one thing: truly gauging who’s more populated, the trollers or the contributors. Although it would be pretty funny to mess with Booner and just thumb down all his comments, but I like him too much for that.
I miss the hockey talk. Hopefully this is an adaption period, and we can go back to some sort of normalcy soon.
I doubt it. Trolls won’t waste time voting on legitimate posts, they’re too busy writing their own troll posts. However, after the initial vote-frenzy wears off, it will be abundantly clear who is considered a troll, because instead of replying, most will simply give a negative vote.
It’s pretty easy to thumb something down, I doubt people will be too lazy to do it. I’m hoping this site stays more mature than say, youtube, and the thumbs up/down feature is based on the comment and not the poster.
Expand the baby seal hunt!!!!
Oh. Now you’re trying to win the “thumbs up” contest.
Actually, I was trying to go the other way. But apparently the HI/O commentariat is populated with a bunch of sickos.
You and I included.
Depends which method..clubbing or gunning?

Habs have a 99.8% chance of making the playoffs
http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html
Do we want Spacek to come back? Suddenly Mara seems like an NHL defenceman. And I can’t see Spatch going over to have a word with a guy like Clutterbuck.
Depends on the opponent. Everyone needs to remember that Spacek has been playing his off side against the toughest competition for nearly his whole tenure with the Habs. As a 3rd pairing guy Spacek could be damn good.
Yeah, it’ll be interesting to see where he fits in, what with PK and Wiz both playing big minutes, and Mara available. Like Hammer, our other elder statesman, I suspect he might thrive playing closer to 20 min than 28 or even 25.
I’d go with Spacek over Picard anyday

Spacek made ovie his… in the playoffs
Spacek Hammer gives us legit shut down pairing, allows PK to be more offensive.
Mara has physicality, but Spacek is much smarter player.

Even my minion Everlasting1 has parroted me on this.
I think it is because of the domain name. habsinsideout.com might appear, to copyright lawyers, to infringe more than the use of ‘Habs’ on any blog inside the ctv domain space. Keep in mind, this site is run by Canada.com which is owned by Postmedia (a Toronto media conglomerate) so the Canadiens may particularly not want big corporate media inordinately profiting from associating themselves the the Habs.
What I want to know is why there are no Habs logos here anywhere…are they also banned?
I see tons of habs logos…just look at avatars next to poters’ names!
