Preseason Habs on RDS, CJAD

For those asking: RDS exec Domenic Vannelli relays word this morning that the network will carry four preseason Canadiens games, three of them from the Bell Centre:

Tonight vs. Boston;
Sept. 27 vs. Florida;
Sept. 30 vs. Buffalo;
Oct. 2 vs. New York Islanders at the Pepsi Colisée in Quebec City. will not be streaming preseason games.

CJAD radio (800 AM in Montreal, on the web) will broadcast all Habs preseason matches.

  1. Bones says:

    1. Which ONE player are you most looking forward to seeing tonight? Gabriel Dumont,

    2. Who most needs a goal tonight for his confidence? Benoit Pouliot

The Habs organization is said to have one of the best prospect groups
at the Forward position in the league. Do the Habs have too many forward
prospects at the SAME LEVEL… and not enough spaces in the near future
to allow them to get their shot?

You can never have enough prospects. They will figure out how to deal with this situation.

    4. Is Weber ready to be an NHL defenseman this year?Yes, but not with the Habs

    5. Which longshot player would you most like to see make the Habs this season? Gabriel Dumont

    6. BONUS QUESTION:  What’s your game drink of choice? Moosehead

  2. scrowe21 says:

Tinordi and Leblanc are both likely 3 years away from making the team. Tinordi said himself he’d like to make the team in 3 years at his draft interview..Schultz will probably get a good shot next year.

My spinorama shootout goal with Cammy

  3. mbplekfan says:

JM said Schultz needs to work on his fitness and skating.

Not uncommon as junior hockey isnt as demanding as pro.

If he improves his conditioning and learns a better positional game he could make it next year.

  4. Hobie Hansen says:

I must say I’m pretty darn pumped to watch this game tonight. I can’t wait to take a gander at Leblanc and especially Tinordi after Tinordi gets sent back to the OHL I’m going to hit up a few Ottawa 67s games here in town when the London Knights are visiting to get a better look at him.

I know Tinordi will be wearing #42, anyone know what # Leblanc will be sporting tonight?

Getting to watch Seguin will be a little added bonus as well.

Great to be a Habs fan these days. I love how they’ve adopted a more North American look by adding guys like Gionta, Gomez, Cammalleri, Subban, Moen and a few others. I love Plekanec and Markov too, don’t get wrong!

I can’t wait to see Leblanc, Tinordi and Shultz playing in Montreal, hopefully for a couple of them as soon as next year? I think Tinordi is probably 2 years at best away. Keep it up Habs.

  5. scrowe21 says:

I know..I figured he definately earned a chance over Dumont or Conboy but I guess not tonight.

My spinorama shootout goal with Cammy

  6. G-Man says:

    1. Delorme- local boy- may not ever make it so I hope he lives the dream tonight. 2. BP 3. Too many 3rd and 4th liners in the system, but that’s one tough balancing act  4. never will be   5. Desharnais (it will never happen, but I like his spunk and attitude)  6. Glennfiddich- 50 years old and so smooooooooth.

  7. Rugger says:

    1. Palushaj (Price #2, Tinordi #3)

    2. Poulet

    3. Great problem to have – Look what ST. Louis did with their Excess.

    4. Haven’t seen enough of him, add him as #4 tonight if he is in line-up

    5. Is Palushaj still considered a long shot?

    6. Apple Cider (not hard) First of the season for the first of the pre-season

  8. Ian Cobb says:

RDS is now available on cable as of right now.!

In Belleville, Trenton, Kingston and more areas in Ontario.

  9. foxscape says:

Does anyone know if RDS will be streaming regular season games this year?

and tho’ We are not now that strength which in old days
    Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
    –Alfred Lord

  10. JIMVINNY says:

    1. Palushaj, because if he performs, the battle for top-6 spots gets a lot more interesting.

    2. Pouliot.

    3. Yes, we’re going to lose guys without ever really seeing them.  Maxwell will be the first of many to go.

    4. Hells no.

    5. Schultz.  Needs to get fit though, if Martin is to be believed.

    6. If they’re winning, beer.  If they’re losing, something stronger.

  11. scrowe21 says:

Schultz is a scratch for some stupid reason.

  12. Chuck says:

    $4.99?! What a ripoff!!

  13. Chorske says:

    Haha, hilarious!

  14. Chorske says:

    1. Avtsin.

    2. The Habs. Wait, what?

    3. Holy smokes. In French, they call this chercher le pepin– trying hard to find a problem when there is none.

    4. He better be, for his sake- he and Darche are the new Chipchuras.

    5. Eller. Does he count?

    6. Depends. Usually Jamesons.

  15. crabvader says:

    1. Schultz

    2. Lappy

    3. Not necessarily. The guys who should be afraid are guys said to already have their position on the team; Pouliot and AK, notably.

    4. Only if he tightened up in front of his goaltender, offensively, he’s been ready for the last 2 years.

    5. Schultz

    6. Hoegaarden

  16. nunacanadien says:

Well wonder if Gomez will warrant the same kind of serious money that he’s gotten so far.  Granted he’s got a very high assist rate,  Where it counts and we don’t see him so much exceling is, skating against Chris Pronger, overpowering him, staying on the puck and on nets, to actually shoot, instead we see Gomez being overpowered by Pronger and forced to pass or give the puck away.  I think this is what many fans see and wonder why Gomez is worth that much money.  What we don’t see is his leadership perhaps among the players, reinforcing the work ethic, and most of all reinforcing Gainey’ and Gauthier’s belief in the smurfiness of the Habs!  Gomez is captain of the hab smurfs perhaps.

  17. Mark C says:

    1. Louis

    2. No one, but if I have to pick Benny or Yannick.

    3. Nope, and having too many prospects is never a bad problem.

    4. Hard to say without seeing him, I think he will become NHL level by the end of the season. People seem to forget just how young he is, he turns 22 tomorrow. I think his floor is as a 5-6 dmen, who can play on the PP, while his ceiling is Mark Streit 2.0.

    5. Palushaj

    6. Big fan of mixing it up.

  18. WarHero says:

    1. Both Tinordi & Leblanc

    2. Pouliot

    3. No, not all will develop like we hope.

  19. pic1983 says:

    1. Gotta be Louis Leblanc

    2. Pouliot

    3. I dont see it as a problem.  If Pouliot or AK falter this year that will open up roster spots in the future.  Even if they have mediocre seasons, doesn’t mean we will see the need to re-sign them if they want too much money.  If they have breakout years, that will create a bit of a logjam, however, none of our prospects right now are of the “cant miss” variety, so I don’t think having too many forward prospects is a problem at this time.

    4.  Not for the canadiens, thats for sure.  I dont think he’s never gotten a fair shake with us to really be able to judge his skill.

    5.  No idea.

  22. mbplekfan says:

Depth is always important, but do we seriously have too many potential NHL’rs playing in Hamilton? No.

Weber did not develop physically and his game has not developed enough to overcome his size issues. Unless he miraculously blossoms in the minors he is heading for Europe next year.

  23. Storm Man says:

I do that alot with CBC/TSN and CJAD on. Sometimes one is ahead, and other games it’s behind.

All depends on the service provider, internet speeds, cable wiring, all that tekkie speed of light E=MC2 stuff.

I have a TV in the living room, and one in the bedroom and with both on the same channel, one is a few seconds ahead of the other.

Ya! The Habs Rule! now on Twitter!

  26. mbplekfan says:

I never complain about how much Gomez gets paid. He’s the best center we’ve had in a long time. The players we gave up were worth it.

The culture of the team needed to be changed and Gomez has helped to change it.

  27. mike g says:

    Agreed once again…

But it seems that in NY, the more mistakes Sather makes, the longer he’s gonna stay as GM.

IMO a troll on any hockey website could do a better job than Sather, but hey, I don’t smoke cigars.

And then people have the male genitals to call Gainey or PG bad GM’s…yikes.

  32. Say Ash says:

Thus far, that payment has yielded our best playoffs in 17 years.

  33. TheDagger says:

There should be a rule in the CBA about burying big contracts in the minors. If the GM is dumb enough to make absurd contracts then they should pay for their mistakes. Say, any player with a cap hit over $2 million can’t be burried. Probably make some GMs look a little harder about some of these contracts they dish out.

  34. mbplekfan says:

Payment for Gomez is coming due. McDonagh was always touted as a first pairing defenceman and seeing him impress the Rangers should come as no surprise.

It would be interesting to see if Valentenko can also make that team.

    Hahaha….the Rangers…

You can tell that an organization is really stupid when it takes someone like Ryan McDonagh, who hasn’t played 1 career game in the NHL, to spell the end of Wade Redden in NY.

Now in no way am I qualified to be employed by an NHL team. But speaking from a fans POV, Redden shouldn’t even be playing in the AHL for how bad he is.

So when they say that McDonagh will spell the end for Redden, I say the end should have never even started. And if nobody wanted to stop Sather from dishing out all that cash, then after 1 year maximum of terrible play he shoulda been sent down.

New York Rangers 2010-2011 Season Preview

    Potential Rookies:

Ryan McDonagh: Ryan McDonagh (who the Rangers acquired in the Scott Gomez trade) probably has the best chance to make the team out of camp. The Rangers were so impressed with him at their prospect camp back in June, that they tried to sign him to a professional contract. There was speculation that McDonagh wanted to remain in Wisconsin, but he decided to sign with the Rangers. The assumption is that his spot on the defense is his to lose, and his success at making the team out of camp will finally spell the end of Wade Redden. But that has yet to be seen.

News about the disaster in NFLand.

I sent an e-mail this morning to HIO poster and blogger JT in Newfoundland, asking her if she was OK and if there was anything I could do..

I thought I would share her response to me.

Thanks a lot, Ian. We were okay at our house…a little water in the basement, a couple of trees down and power out for a few hours. Others are much worse off. Everybody’s struggling just to assess the damage today. Some communities are completely cut off from the rest of the province. The entire Bonavista Penninsula is without power or water. In Bonavista, the only gas station able to pump with the power out was flooded, so they’re also out of gas, which is a problem for people on oxygen. With no power, their oxygen pumps are running on generators and without gas, they don’t run. We were lucky.

I’m not sure if there will be donations requested by the Red Cross or anybody later, but right now, all you can do is say a prayer for people who have lost so much.

You get all of the highlights, and it is easy to go back to any game all season.

If you have on demand on your cable package, you can get the highlights from there as well.  I get them through comcast on demand.

(Posted this on the other thread, re-posting it here cuz I’m trying to get popular, you know)

    – No longer do we have to wait for a Habs game, RDS and Benny Brunet will be on air tonight broadcasting what should surely be another classic. I can’t wait to see a nice battle along the boards between Bartkowski and Conboy tonight. MAN!, I’m soo pumped….

    – No longer do we have to wait to see if the Leafs suck again, because they still do. Last night’s game was about as sad as my chances of winning a Nobel Prize. It was great to see that the Leafs not only dressed 75% of their NHL roster, but the Sens spanked them by dressing less than 20% of their NHL roster. Phaneuf got burned like toast in a fireplace, Versteeg thaught he was Gretzky and couldn’t stop trying to put the puck between his legs, Kadri looks like he’s 12 years old and always does the same move, and Colby Armstrong is basically a really ugly Max Lapierre who’s making 3 million $ per year….GO LEAFS!!!!!!!

    – No longer do we have to wait to see Tyler Seguin play his 1st NHL game. While tonight’s game doesn’t officially count as an NHL game, the Bell Center faithfull should welcome him the same way we welcome our own players; by booing him. I mean, it would just feel weird for a Habs fan to cheer on a Bruin, even if he’s a great player. So please feel free to yell and scream all the french insults and bad words you guys want tonight. This way, Seguin will have to constantly ask Bergeron to translate what our fans our saying, and it will waste their focus and take them both off their games. If they play bad, Habs win, Habs smash, go home Boston…..Now that’s what I call home-ice advantage.

    – No longer do we have to wait to see Jaro play with his new squad. He lost, yea so, wtv. He’s still great, right? But man, if Carey woulda lost to a bunch of AHL’ers in his debut with abother team, Boone and Stubbs would be buying Ferrari’s right now, cuz this site would have 12.8 million hits today. Anyways, I kinda saw inside his eyes in the pics of Jaro’s debut, and they screamed “I miss MTL”. Sorry you had to go Jaro. Maybe when your contract expires you can come back here. We wil surely need something good to argue about, cuz by that time Leblanc and a few rookies might have develloped into good players. So, you know, you can come back and throw some fuel on the fire.

Anyways, that’s my Wednesday morning post.

haha nice post but wasn’t it you yesterday who was saying that he wanted to bet on the leafs in predictions (or mise o jeu, cant remember) because all their rookies were going to put the extra effort to make the team?

  94. quentin_stuckley says:

don’t think that never crossed my mind before.

Do the honorable thing and tell him you will spread vicious rumors to your sister if he doesn’t fork over some tickets to you.

  98. mike g says:

My uncle has season tickets. It’s great when my phone rings and I see his name. 1st thing that comes to my mind is, “ok, are you offering me Minnesota Wild tickets this time, or Columbus BJ’s?”.

  99. sidhu says:

Who on Team A for the Habs is going to fight tonight to try and make a name for himself?  Yes, I know, Habs and fighting don’t usually mix (see, e.g., Laraque, Big George), but this is the preseason and usually youngsters like to put it all out there to impress the coaches and their teammates.  Tinordi?  Conboy?

  100. montreal1 says:

wouldnt mind seing the tinmeister throw it down, but i remember, not sure if it was last year or the year before, where there was a rookie try out player and he faught like 3 times in a preseason game, wonder what happened to him…

  101. SeriousFan09 says:

Tinordi doesn’t have any real fighting under his belt so I doubt he’d crack it out now against much older players and experienced fighters. Conboy is the only guy there who might look to start something.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  102. mike g says:

I’d pay $500 to see a bench brawl tonight.

Goalies involved too, Price fighting Raask, and ripping his Bruins jersey in half…..

Ok you know what, make that $1000.

  103. habsfanincalgary says:

I’m pretty excited about the season getting started.  The team is pretty much the same and if Price wasn’t in the spotlight before, he sure is front stage centre now!

I was disappointed that the Habs missed out on signing Dan Ellis, as the mere $500K more than Auld for what he signed in TB is well worth it (and a HUGE upgrade over AA).

Some thoughts about the upcoming season:

    – How consistent will Pricey play?
    – How well will Auld do?
    – The team has thrived on the PP the past few seasons, but has had for the most part the big shot (Souray, Streit, Schneider and Bergeron).  Without Weber’s shot, who has the comparable cannon from the point?
    – How consistent will AK46 play this year, coming up to his contract year?  And on that point, what would it take to sign Souray as he waits to play for another team?  What has to happend in order for a team to not pay his $10+ million for the next two seasons?  Have the Oil bought him out?
    – Aside from PK, are any other rookies going to be travelling with the big team?

    Should be a great season!

  104. sidhu says:

I’m wondering whether we should have signed Turco, an experienced vet who could mentor Pricey and whose good buddies with Cammy.  He just cost .300 more than Alex Bald.

  105. rocketsglare says:

The present and future of this team will be on display throughout these pre-season games and I will

be very curious to see how the current and new will play together. One side already established and

the other trying to impress should make for some interesting line combinations and hopefully  some

revealing and telling results about our team’s present and future.

    Go Habs Go!

  106. montreal1 says:

lol hes a great guy, i’ve been given tickets before, but its rare. Also doesn’t help that my girlfriend (his sister) is a huge habs fan too, so we both salavate at the mouth around this week every year, he just recieved them and hes basically doing a draft to see whos getting what and when :)

  107. sidhu says:

Dude, now’s the time to butter him up — send him a bottle of his favorite drink… It will be worth it!

  114. SeriousFan09 says:

At the time, Turco was looking for much bigger money and in any case, he wanted a No. 1 job which is what CHI offered, plus as always, higher taxes means we’d have been paying Ellis or Turco more than what they’re getting from their current teams.

It must be that nunacanadien and Tony/observer/Dr-Watson/habheart are actually Leafs fans. How else could some-oen explain their hatred for the Habs?

The funny thing are the anti-Gainey rants. Just pisses off all these Leaf trolls that Burke just tanked away a season for the benefit of the Bruins. Pathetic.

  121. WarHero says:

hahaha, I think you might be on to something HH. I have thought that very same thing myself for awhile now. SDamn it sux to be a leaf fan! hahahaha

  123. observer says:

It must be that nunacanadien and Tony/observer/Dr-Watson/habheart are actually Leafs fans. How else could some-oen explain their hatred for the Habs? —————— No, probably all you list are REAL habs fans who only want the best for the team and if someone on this team is not doing a good job – they criticize him or in some cases wish that person was not on this team. it is you and others obsessed with the leafs – i disliked them but for good reason and many many years ago when they and habs were rivals for championships, but they are just another team now and for years have stunk – so why are you obsessed with them?

  124. Dr-Watson says:

Hey Gomer, as PG has done, rather then get the players the team desperately needed, he made a couple of mind-boggling trades and signed four low impact players. that does nothing to make the Habs a better and more competitive team. Toronto or Montreal is going to end up fourth in the division. You are just too thick and narrow-minded to understand it.

  125. ddawwidd says:

Does that mean that regular season games will be shown on For fans outside Canada this would be great news – even if it meant we’d have to pay for it.

RDS is now available on cable as of right now.!

It took us a year to get enough people to call our cable co. and demand the RDS service. Finally they called us and told us we would have it soon, and voila,! now we do.

    Perseverance pays off.!

  129. habs33 says:

Bad news for anyone that used to stream the CJAD broadcasts over their iPhone like I did – they’ve switched to a Flash-based player which means no streaming, no Rick Moffatt’s play calling and no Habs :(

  175. observer says:

sure! exhibitions really mean a lot.

  176. MontrealAtheist says:

Some of us have been booing Gainey for a long time for his selfish obsession with Price just to prove himself right. It should come as a surprise to noone that the decision to let go one of the best goaltenders in the league and to keep one of the worst goalies instead would eventually backfire.

  177. HardHabits says:

Gimme a break. You have a hatred 1st of all for Price which goes back to your habs_guru days. Right? Remember how you lashed out at the Price fan-boys as you called them. So once Halak got traded, a very good trade BTW, you couldn’t contain yourself and morphed into Tony242. Droning on and on about the 47% and 88 points and standing pat and PG and BG.

The bottom line is you may even be right in many aspects of the points you bring forward but it’s always done with a hate on for the Habs and with an intense negativity that’s worse than watching Eraserhead on PCP.

When I talked about tanking it was to rebuild via the draft and also because I got fed up of seeing other teams do it with success. After this summer’s and last summer’s moves I am glad the Habs did it the way they did because the bottom line is that it looks like the farm is geting stocked.

You have nothing good to say. You post garbage to get a rise out of people and when you post something decent it’s usually about some other sport.

Wake up TONY!!!! Get out of your downward spiral. You’re crawling in the muck and the mire, dude (or dudette)!

The dynasty years are over. The best way to build a strong team long term is the way the Habs are doing it, at least I hope. Right now the team is rebuilding like it hasn’t done in decades, at it really needs to. Some pain in the early stages but like working out results start showing but only after persistance. It could be a long haul, the Habs could win the Cup next season. Nobody knows. Enjoy the ride can you a bit. I mean why ride a roller-coaster if you fear it?

  178. observer says:

Gimme a break. You have a hatred 1st of all for Price which goes back to your habs_guru days. Right? —- youre talking about somelse never used or heard phrase “fan boys”. i was a big fan of price and NOT halak but after watching for 3 years i sorta have come to conclusion WHICH I STILL HOPE IS WRONG that price is never going to be the goalie he looked like he was to become way back in junior and first year here. same goes for gainey – i on these boards for years BEFORE gainey came here said habs should try to pry him from the stars. but his performance here turned me sour on him. gauthier i never liked right back from his nordiques days and i think the gauthier/gainey trade away of halak ranks as one of the worst deals habs ever made and theyve made some. AGAIN though i hope im wrong and eller turns into a star.

  179. HardHabits says:

I don’t here the names of these players you are talking about and how they would fit under the cap. It’s the same old same old. You basically prove every point that I make. Thanks. Got those lottery numbers Kreskin?

  180. naweed235 says:

Price… wow… this is really really bad…   for those who are going to say that it does not matter b/c its preseason , i worry about his confidence which can be crushed from the begining and i dont think 3 goals in like 5 shots  really helps…

  181. aemarchand11 says:

Halak, Elliot both have gone through the same thing. 1st game of the year, with pretty bad d coverage to boot.

  190. aemarchand11 says:

    no, you come on

  191. TomNickle says:

1st period three stars for the Habs.

    1. Louis Leblanc….only one mistake the entire period with lots of icetime…..not bad for his first pro game.

    2. Ben Maxwell….very creative offensively in that first period…..hope he gets a shot early in the regular season if this keeps up.

    3. Aaron Palushaj…..playing with great linemates, but he’s driving the net very well which is exactly what those two guys need to create space in the slot.

  192. TomNickle says:

    Haha, one bad goal…….OH NO.

Which was deflected by his defenseman’s stick

  193. adam76 says:

3 goals on 4 shots, unreal.

  194. Storm Man says:

How’s your ankle doing after jumping of the team’s bandwagon?

  195. adam76 says:

That “one bad goal” was the reason he went 13 – 20 last season, just FYI.

  196. TomNickle says:

I think I’ll save my time for people who know something about hockey.

    Thanks though.

You go look up what the term goal support means….post the definition, and then i’ll talk to you if you’ve developed sufficient understanding of the term

  197. adam76 says:

3 goals on 4 shots.  Team support, are you insane?????

  198. TomNickle says:

Okay….put your big boy hat on Adam.  I’ll walk you through this nice and slowly.

You said that Price had a 13-20 record last season because he let in one bad goal/game.  My rebuttal was that he didn’t have any goal support.

One bad goal tonight, which is debatable, will not result in a 13-20 record this season.

  199. fbkj says:

dude you seriously need to learn about hockey

yes team support can have a direct impact on goals

  200. adam76 says:

3 goals on 4 shots, 4 goals on 7 – you don’t see an issue with that?  For real?  Are you new to the sport?

  201. adam76 says:

so are such a smart fan tom, a true insider.  You much be a coach in real life?

If you don;t see an issue with 3 goals in 4 shots, perhaps you sould take up soccer?

  202. MontrealAtheist says:

What else did you expect with Carey Price in nets?

  203. TomNickle says:

Listen you little half wit…Two were breakaways, one was a screen in a rifle of a shot and the other was deflected by his own man.

If our defensemen continue to play this poorly in the regular season and we continue to lose defensive zone faceoffs with regularity, then it will be an issue.

    But these goals?

At least find poor play, wait, you can’t.   You can quote these numbers all you want.  People who have any clue about hockey know it doesn’t all fall on the goalie.  And you’re predictably jumping to point the finger at Price following four goals that consisted of, just as I mentioned above, TWO BREAKAWAYS, A DEFLECTION, AND A SCREENED SHOT.

    It’s past your bedtime….Goodnite.

  204. fbkj says:

oh totally, im a complete n00b when it comes to hockey

explain to me why they all carry these icebats at the same time and why do the umpires move around with the players?

but seriously, if a team plays better in front of a goalie, the shots they do get wont be as quality, not to mention as often

do you have powerpoint because i can send you a better breakdown, ill also horizontally watermark the words “psss its pre-season numbnuts” if you wish

  205. adam76 says:

Oh poor little tom, totally embarrassed by logic and facts.  Sorry math is so hard for you.  Don’t worry – maybe with some flashcards you will understand.

  206. TomNickle says:

You’re an idiot.  Like I said before, it’s past your bedtime.

  207. adam76 says:

3 goals with 4 shots would be an en embarrassment on a breakaway – sad you don;t see that.

  208. fbkj says:

    its a pre-season game

    sad you dont see that

  209. adam76 says:

poor tom, I feel sorry for you.

  210. TomNickle says:

Adam…..4 goals, two breakaway goals, one screen, one deflection….yet it is ALL Price’s fault.

That’s your logic, you are an idiot.

You fell in love with Jaro Halak and Price being kept haunts you, it’s unfortunate that you are so immature that you can’t understand that when people don’t want to work for a certain employer, the employer usually obliges them.

You are so stupid that you don’t understand that there’s more to hockey than numbers.  And you sure as hell can’t understand that it doesn’t take having Dominek Hasek for a team to be successful.

  211. fbkj says:

he clearly broke down the nuances of the game and you think that you trump him with numbers without context

  212. LA Loyalist says:

I swear to you I have been pumping myself up to cheer for the guy. I swear on a med fat smoked meat at Schwartz’s and a nice cold draft (at a different venue of your choice, of course). I have an autographed picture of Price and Ovechkin in my closet I paid a bunch of money for to give my kid for Christmas…

Am I crazy? Wasn’t tonight a great opportunity for Price to make a statement? Be honest!  How could he come out so flat? I don’t know, I swear to you. Hasn’t he got any freaking pride?

If you can explain it I’m happy to listen. Just don’t say it’s pre-season and it doesn’t matter.

    It matters.

“20 games to a new tagline – probably less the way this is going.”

  213. TomNickle says:

That’s great, I’m flattered that I’m pitied by a child.

    Seriously, go to bed.

  214. adam76 says:

pool little Tom. feel sad for you

  215. adam76 says:

you keep defending 3 goal in 4 shots – will work out well for you,

  216. TomNickle says:

If you’re actually rooting for that guy and this team, and if you’ve been following hockey as long as you say you have.  You should have the common sense to understand what caused these four goals and that it would take a goalie playing out of his mind, in a groove like no other to have stopped even three of those four goals.

Ignoring that this is his FIRST game of the season and that no goalie is hot right now, those goals shouldn’t have been assumed saves.  If we need our goalie to stop all four of those chances, we have MUCH bigger problems than our goaltender.  Even Jaro the Almighty wouldn’t have stopped them.

  217. adam76 says:

Oh Tom – embarrassed for you

  218. fbkj says:

and you keep ommiting the fact that its a team sport

  219. Storm Man says:

That is not saying much… How many of the 10 shots were scoring chances?

  220. TomNickle says:

Tim, don’t waste your valuable time.  Adam doesn’t know what a scoring chance is.  I’d be surprised if he knew what a Bruin was.

  221. adam76 says:

do you know what a .250 save percentage is?

  222. TomNickle says:

Haha, yes Adam, Price will face 16 shots tonight and he will let in 12 goals.

  223. adam76 says:

    lame, embarrassed for you

  224. slapshot777 says:

Gotta shake off the rust guys. I think the guys will only get better with each minute played. bruins got a couple of good goals, the only bad one was the first. second was a timely screen which Price never saw and the third was a nice move by Bergereon. very few goalies are stopping that move.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  225. LA Loyalist says:

One would think Rodeo dude would see this as an opportunity to make a statement… just saying…

“20 games to a new tagline – maybe less.”

  226. savethepuck says:

Glad someone sees what I saw. First one was iffy but other 2 didn’t bother me.  I think there are too many people hoping he plays bad just so they can say “I told you so, we kept the wrong guy”

  227. Everlasting1 says:

Price played that 3rd goal too far out of his net.

  228. boris420 says:

Guys my site is back up…you remember the one for the live streams of all the games…thought alot of people might appreciate it running again.

  229. LA Loyalist says:

    thank you. is this legal?

“To failing hands we’ve passed the torch.”

  230. Laramy87 says:

Yes i admit 3 goals on 4 shots looks bad, but really first PRE-SEASON game and fans are doing the sarcastic cheer, great way to support our number 1.

  231. Everlasting1 says:

    3 goals on 4 shots..absolutely brutal.

    Don’t pollute the water.

  232. fbkj says:

pre-season, team is not in front of him, let him make mistakes now, let him make statements when it counts

i also dont think halak’s stinker last night is any way to guage him either

and who cares if he rodeo’s… each to their own…

  233. adam76 says:

    do it the “cowboy” way!!!!

  234. LA Loyalist says:

That’s not a bad Kieffer Sutherland movie for a rental – ‘The Cowboy Way’ – if you’re ever stuck for a flick.

“To failing hands we’ve passed the torch.”

  235. habbyone says:

Price looking the same as always.

  236. lavie says:

I just came back. Did Price get booed?

  237. petefleet says:

Good to see so many of you have your glass half full with regard to the 3 goals on 6 shots.  My money is that it continues all year or until they admit they traded the wrong guy.  Maybe Auld could share the duties with Ramo or someone else who can stop the puck.    And I am aware that Halak lost last night too.  He had more than 6 shots for his 3 goals.

    Go Habs Go

  238. Everlasting1 says:

He got a sarcastic cheer when he made a chip pass out of the zone.

  239. zaq007 says:

Price judgement after 1 period makes me laugh :)

  240. adam76 says:

4 goals in how many shots?

  241. tricolore says:

Whether you can use these preseason games to evaluate anything as an indication for the season ahead is a gamble at best. Nice to see some of the youth playing. So far they suck, but they’re trying…lol. Some of the habs look like their legs are filled with lead.

Deep breathes. Patience.  Vive le tricolore!

Lafleur, coming out rather gingerly on the right side.

  242. petefleet says:

    Go Habs Go

  243. adam76 says:

3 goals on 4 shots – just FYI

  244. habsfreak13 says:

    Is bergeron on steroids?!

  245. homerbowen says:

Price is a big boy and if he gets booed he’ll know it’s for a reason. Be a man and suck it up then do something about it. This is his last shot at making it because if he can’t shine over the next two years his value will drop like a rock (can you spell KHL).

  246. adam76 says:

  247. tricolore says:

I don’t agree with it either but it’s to be expected. Wait till he loses or plays bad in the regular season at home. The Halak chants will fill the Bell Centre in seconds.

  248. homerbowen says:

C’mon…we’ve been trying for years it’s about time they moved up. Not interested in trying anymore I just want results. Oh, oh, Laffs are killing Sens.

  249. habbyone says:

a few seasons + a period. Boston has a goalie now we need to find one.

  250. petefleet says:

    Go Habs Go

  251. LA Loyalist says:

Yes and no. Yes it’s pre-seaon blah blah blah – in a normal situation I wouldn’t care —

BUT if YOU or I were in his position wouldn’t we have seen tonight as an opportunity to shut up the critics and boost your team’s confidence and reward coaches and management who had faith? Be honest! Of course we would. I’d come out and play like it was a game effing 7… like a freaking laser beam.

I was going to wait 20 games – but apparently we can’t wait 20 minutes.

3 goals on 4 shots? Someone needs to to slip Price a Post-it(tm) note that says “This isn’t pee-wee.”

There’s something in his head that isn’t on straight. I don’t know what it is. I don’t mean to be harsh but jeez all he’s doing is getting behind the 8 ball before he even starts.

“20 games to a new tagline – now maybe less, maybe much less”

  252. TomNickle says:

I think Spacek is on Hamrliks

  253. teebs says:

Yup, I knew it. The Price haters salivating, licking their chops….drooling over the chance to pile on to our starting goalie. Brutal. Its game one of preseason….anyone see our D helping out?

Man I truly hate some Habs fans…just as bad as Leafs fans. Support our goalie, suport our team. Focus on positives. Palushaj with his wheels, Pyatt all over the ice….but no…has to be negative, negative, negative. You guys would probably critique fellatio instead of laying back and enjoying the moment.

    Give it a rest

  254. MontrealAtheist says:

This season is over for the Habs before it even started … I guess the decision to let go one of the best goaltenders of last season and instead pick one of the worst goaltenders of the entire league as the #1 might have consequences after all, who would have thought?

Thank you very much, Mr. Gainey. You’re a true “genius” !!!

  255. aemarchand11 says:

100% healthy again, good for him though.

Pulled in a pre season game. Wow!!!

  260. aemarchand11 says:

    hahaahahahahaahahahahahahaahahaahaha need a tissue??

    Go Habs Go!

  261. petefleet says:

Not likely, you have to be able to stop the puck in the KHL too.

    Go Habs Go

  262. says:

OMG this guy knows nothing about hockey.

    They Call Me Shane

  263. aemarchand11 says:

Are you ignorant? Generally goalies are changed in the early preseason games so all goalies get to play. The rare occasion when goalies stay in all game is when they are playing shutout hockey.

    Go Habs Go!

  264. ghabsg says:

WOW! DO us alll a favor and shut off your pc and go play in traffic!

  265. fbkj says:

goalies split duties at the halfway mark of pre-season games

it will happen next game, even if were winning

  266. larisalapointe says:

He wasn’t pulled Sanford was supposed to play 30 minutes. Duh?

So Halak sucked his first game, Price sucked his first game. Are we all even now?

Wait till Oct. 7 before you crucify Price. Besides, I don’t see anybody scoring for Habs. (remind anyone of last season?)

  267. lavie says:

Gauthier played the Made-No.1 Price in the 1st Pre-season game, which is a bad decision.

  268. RetroMikey says:

Yup, 4 goals allowed in 9 shots on a Boston “B” team out there.  Yup.

It’s only an exhibition game but I am sensing a long season for us.

But we’ll see what happens after the 20 season mark if we really are a good team or a mediocre team at best.

“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “

  269. habbyone says:

    Hey Shane. F-OFF!

  270. RC-51 says:

its a PRE SEASON game means nothing! People here need to calm down, Not Price’s fault 2 of first 3 goals( i missed the 4th) Why are people not ragging Spacek for deflecting the 1st goal? 2nd goal was just a good shot with two Bruins screening Price

  271. ghabsg says:

These guys dont kid, they’re actually part of an elite group known as HABs FAN TRASH….

  272. habbyone says:

Common. He was pulled. If not he should have been.

  273. teebs says:

Great point shot from the point, from Boychuk a full time NHLer, a wrister from Horton…a full time NHLer, Bergeron with a nifty deke…also a full time NHLer….I admit, not the best showing for sure…but these ain’t the ‘B’ teamers that are doing the scoring.

Should’ve had the wrister from Horton. Lets take a step back from the ledge though, guys

  274. fbkj says:

dude seriously i say this with respect because i dont know you, you were in the wrong here… learn the game a bit, process your thoughts better, than if you feel inclined to spend energy posting on a message board, TRY using some EFFORT before you make yourself look stupid

just some advice you dont have to listen to it you can keep goin about your merry way

  275. says:

    Truth Hurts hehe

  276. ghabsg says:

I wanna see the same TRASH FANS at the end of the season, when we make another go for the Cup. Im really curious what they’ll come up with then….

    Bunch Of DB’s

  277. chelios_24 says:

The following events have ruined the Montreal Canadiens

    1. Chris Chelios trade for Denis Savard

    2. Rejean Houle being named GM

    3. Patrick Roy trade to Colorado

    5. HIRING PIERRE GAUTHIER…we are in a new Rejean Houle era.

I wanna die. I can’t stomach Price…I despise him…somebody hypnotise me and me not love the habs anynmore.

  279. pmaraw says:

Is it possible that Price is a backup goalies spinach?

  280. homerbowen says:

I don’t care if it’s pre-season it’s at home against the Bruins and a better effort is expected. Not a good start but then I was only expecting to scrape into the playoffs (maybe) anyway.

  281. fbkj says:

if your trolling now, i commend you

  282. MontrealAtheist says:

Ha ha ha … another go for the Cup with Price as our #1 goalie? Good one, dude !!!

  283. ghabsg says:

You’ll be the first i come asking for one of your BS excuses when im right… GO follow the leafs if you’re gonna shit on this goalie who is part of THIS TEAM!

  284. larisalapointe says:

If this is Boston’s B team defense, I’d gladly trade our A team defense for them.

  285. teebs says:

Just a TAD overdramatic, are we?

You’re not a 7th grade girl, whose world is ending cause she couldn’t go to the Justin Bieber concert…are you?

Settle down. This isn’t a new Rejean Houle era….but I do have to admit, I agreed with your first 3 points. Look, we scored! Yay!!!

  286. habbyone says:

Price off the ice and habs net 2. Kind of reminds me of last season.

  287. naweed235 says:

once again… the team playing better infront of the other goalie…

  288. pmaraw says:

nice to see the pp click anyways

  289. Laramy87 says:

Price hasn’t played in a game in how long ????? since what March. So what he has a little rust, these things happen. I cant stand the ppl who ae already dooming him. Being huge dbags like the fans there are really not going to help, its called support!

  290. fbkj says:

so when I see a phony like Price…a prima donna..who comes with all the hype but no substance…my stomatch feels sick…I get all queezy…and when management act like politicians and try to throw Carey price in our faces…I don’t buy it..I’m not stupid…I’m not an idiot…

No..I’m pissed off. After 15 years of nothing in the playoffs we finally go to the final four cause of the heroics of a hard working goalie like halak..he made them money..saved their butts…and what happens…we send him off…say good bye…and praisee the spoiled rotten brat Price.

I’m sick..somebody give me some gravol…cause it’s rotten at the bell centre and.

Nope, Carey has to win 82 straight games in shut-outs…like their god, Halak is gonna do….in order to BARELY please these so called Habs fans. Starting with the pre-season….where EVERYTHING matters….

    Where is Halak?????????

    Go Habs Go!

WOW, great to see REAL fans of the Habs out on the first night. Give your head a shake, it’s the first preseason game and you’re throwing in the towel. If a weaker first 30 minutes throws you off like that, how can you even be a fan. You do not deserve to consider yourself a habs fan. Go cheer for the plugs down the 401.

  301. KenD29 says:

Hey Chelli, guess Price was suppose to stop that deflection off the forward’s arm?!

How about Spacek’s lack of defensive play?!

Guys I have a question to ask. Let’s without bias or prejudice, please answer with a truthful and honest answer.

On those 4 goals scored against Price, how many of them would you classify as a iffy goal and how many would you classify as a goal where you wouldn’t blame the goalie ?  Remember answer honestly.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  304. TomNickle says:

Doesn’t look like you need much helping hating the team.

  306. chelios_24 says:

what’s there to like about Carey Price..seriously…what do you guys see in him. I see a lazy guy…I don’t see any fight in the man. convince me man….please…give me something ..anyhing to give me a reason to like Carey Price.

From the start it was bad…drafting a goalie so high…5th overall. Pierre MCGuire was right..we were all right.

  307. KenD29 says:

Gave up 3 bananas on 6 measley shots last night!!! I’d say he is on the pine in St Louis watching the #2 goalie in the enxt game!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  308. LA Loyalist says:

Sorry fbkj and Laramy87 and other “support” theorists.

My 7 year old and his buddies show more pride on the ice than Price showed tonight.

There’s something wrong with Price’s head. I don’t know what it is, or if it’s fixable. I’m not even sure it’s his fault. I personally think it’s Gainey’s fault, but I could be wrong.

Is there a goalie coach on here that could share some insight on what is going on?

BTW goal support theory is irrelevant to a goalie. The shot is the shot.

The game of hockey for a goalie is between him and the puck. That’s all he sees if he’s any good.

“20 games to a new tagline – maybe less, maybe much less.”

    Go Habs Go

  310. ghabsg says:

Youre RIGHT, what was i thinking…

OH but remind the Trash Fans, All mighty HALAK lost 3-1 yesterday??? OR was that just pre-season so it doesnt really mean anything??!!!

  311. Bill J says:

now think about who you typed that too. 😛 lol

  312. Storm Man says:

Guess you did not see what your hero did last night?

  313. LA Loyalist says:

And why didn’t he play since March? Because he lost his job to Halak, because Halak was better. Argue against that fact.

  314. TomNickle says:

Honestly, if you really believe that, you need to stop analyzing, because you’re clueless.

  315. TomNickle says:

Halak is gone, deal with it.

  316. Bill J says:

    Almost right.

    for St Louis the pre-season doesn’t matter…

    for Montreal, it does…

This of course for those who had been waiting to jump all over Price.

Quite ridiculous to jump on him in THIS game, lmfao truly “outs” them for who they are.

  317. teebs says:

Oh, Halak would’ve had them all….and 2 assists by now…

  318. LA Loyalist says:

boy, I could add to your list, but then I’d get depressed. I guess it’s true, a fish rots from the head.

“To failing hands we’ve passed the torch.”

  319. Laramy87 says:

Two goals by Bergeron, i do not think too many goalies in the NHL will stop them,  Boychuk was a nice shot and perfectly screened, and the first one was a little weak. Too me only the first was iffy…. I would not look too much into the shots on net tho… They have 12 after 2. I think Sanford has had 3 shots…. ITs not quantity its quality of shots and thats what Boston is doing, quality

  320. larisalapointe says:

  321. KenD29 says:

Your buddy Halak better hope he plays better behind his new team than he did last night… 3 Bananas on the first 6 shots!!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  322. larisalapointe says:

Hahahaha….it’s only a hockey game dude. An exhibition one at that. Nothing to be suicidal over.

  323. Bill J says:

what happened to giving the team 20 games ?

Do you not see that on the FIRST game of the pre-season it is FAR too early to judge…

COME ON!!! Take a deep breath, before you make yourself look ridiculous.

  324. fbkj says:

glad to get called out, but no the shot is not just the shot

  325. adam76 says:

    you are a joke, tom

  326. habs_1993 says:

Both of Bergeron’s goals i dont blame him (left him all alone, and Spacek gave it up for a break)

The 2nd goal scored on a powerplay…it looked like he was screened, but idk….thats up in air for me

The first one…well……yea, iffy and pretty awful to give up

    So yea, 1 (maybe 2) / 4 for me

But relax, its only preseason…but i still odnt like how the fans are mock cheering him

  327. Storm Man says:

Like he did last night lol…

  328. LA Loyalist says:

If a goalie is in position, and controls rebounds and has good recovery to get back into position, he’ll be able to get a lot of weird deflections and rebounds. I’m not speaking to that particular one, but in general, that’s what an NHL level goalie should be doing.

  329. fbkj says:

    sadly i have

    make the voices STOP

  330. adam76 says:

Price can not stop the puck, deal with it.

  331. LA Loyalist says:

with all due respect –  we’re not the ones who messed our crease tonight.

the concern tonight is not that we flopped the game, the concern is that we have no backup plan, if Price tanks, we are screwed.

  332. Bill J says:

Yeah because the first game of the pre-season is the perfect time to judge.

Of those 4 goals, 4 could be blamed on rusties.

    1st one – ALL Price.

Next 3 – Price’s team failed him, again IMO rusties.

Take a deep breath, and watch Tinordi and Leblanc, enjoy THEM… You won’t see em for a year at least now.

  333. Bill J says:

You need psychiatric help, deal with it.

  334. fbkj says:

what about an NHL level squad in front of said goalie, that neither team currently has?

  335. KenD29 says:

And if NHL Defencemen were in proper position, NHL forwards backchecking, there should be no shot on goal !

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  336. HabsTrueBlue says:

    LOL still Gainey’s fault !

  337. HabsTrueBlue says:

Gotta add drafting Wickenheiser instead of Savard but that may have been before your time!

  338. adam76 says:

3 out of 4, 4 out of 7 – defend it,  come on, make your excuses?

  339. volcano62 says:

Yep it all started when we traded a fellow named Huet.

    Go Habs Go!

  340. fbkj says:

    its not defending

    its called explaining

and your not listening your just spouting shit without context

but hey it works for rush limbaugh

  341. volcano62 says:

    I feel the same way!

  342. fbkj says:

that dude in the swiss league who didnt make it as far as price did that year huet?

  343. Seps says:

That is a very ignorant thing to say, NHL goalies are human their going to miss shots and with your math they should probably have every shot then so it seems in your mind it should be shutout hockey.

Starting in goal, #31 CAREEEYYYY PRICE

  344. Bill J says:

    That’s a joke – right ? lol

  345. linp says:

The team just plays differently with Price in net. Of course it doesn’t help when Price lets in a goal on the first shot.

  346. petefleet says:

Great game by Pleks.  I’m not suprised.  Sanford looks good.  If they score enough goals, it won’t matter who’s in net.  Remember Grant Fuhr?

    Go Habs Go

  347. adam76 says:

4 goals in 7 shots – defend that.

  348. Storm Man says:

I was hoping you would defend your word Adam and Im sure you know what Im talking about.. This is a team game 😉

  349. Bill J says:

1st pre-season game, and you decide it’s case closed ?

    Are you insane ?

  350. KenD29 says:

Halak 3 Bananas on the first 6 shots last night!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  351. Laramy87 says:

Then watch another team, becuase u sure as hell dont sound like much of a habs fan

  352. teebs says:

First one by Horton he should’ve had, yes

Second, great play by Bergeron, deflected a bit

Third goal, seeing eye point shot-good goal

4th-Bergeron out-waited him, made a move and scored

Ask yourself before you dump all over Price like it was his fault and his alone…..where was the defense? Weber was on for at least 2 if not 3 of the goals…out of place

  353. KenD29 says:

How come you do not make any mention of Old Man Spacek who is still looking for his strap after Bergeron twisted him inside out like a pretzel?!!

Spacek gave up 1 goal from what I could tell!  Awful!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  354. lavie says:

just wonder who will be our No. 1 goalie if Price is still a Pseudo No. 1 goalie like last year.

  355. slapshot777 says:

Biggest problem I see on this site is, we don’t really have true habs fans. Before anyone goes ape sh!t, let me clarify. While I know that there are Fans on here who are truly red white and blue fans, Hard core fans. Fans who see the game as a complete game. These are the true fans.

Then we have the bandwagon fans, who are all on board when things are going good, but as soon as things start to go south or a bad play happens or we play a good game, they pick out the negatives. This is not a Habs fan but a person whose sole purpose on this site is to stir sh!t and nothing else and at all cost.

then we have the trolls who are not a Habs fan PERIOD. They are only here to create problems for everyone and of course we have people who are passionate and take offense and away it goes. Crap all nite.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  356. volcano62 says:

Price has embarrassed himself again :(

    Go Habs Go!

    Leafs you mean…?

  362. novahab says:

As far as Price goes this is a ex game who cares I am more pissed at the refs god its a preseason game and they are starting already. Leblanc was creamed with out the puck and nothing the biggest mistake was keeping JM and letting go of the finest young hockey mind in the game. GD Molsons don’t let Betman and his crooks do this to the team again this year.

  363. MTLForever says:

People need to calm down, it’s preseason. Some young guys are getting an opportunity to play. Goals that were scored tonight on Price would easily be scored on other NHL goalies too.

  364. volcano62 says:

We have to stop making excuses for Carey…’s been how many chances?

    Go Habs Go!

  365. haber11k says:

Booing your own player in a preseason game, nice to see the fans at the Bell haven’t changed. Just great, let’s run him out of town becuase we are the best fans and we know so much about the game.Geez, what a bunch, getting really sick of Hab fans. Almost make a 40 year loyal fan want give up being a fan. But I know I can’t of course.

  366. adam76 says:

simple – stop the puck.  Go 3 and 4 – you deserve the boooooooooooooooos

  367. JohnnyBEast says:

Read what you commented on, PRESEASON

  368. zaq007 says:

I think every season everyone starts with a clean slate so a period and half? It’s a bad pre season game lol give like 15 this season before throwing him under the bus 😛

  369. adam76 says:

he is starting his 4th season, not a rookie.

  370. fbkj says:

yet hes still 3 years younger than when belfour was a rookie

    btw adam its preseason

  371. lavie says:

It will be a pleasant season for Alex Auld.

  372. volcano62 says:

    Go Habs Go!

  373. volcano62 says:

Let’s just hope Auld can step it up a little….

    Go Habs Go!

  374. KenD29 says:

Same for the other goalie in St Louis based on you and Adam’s measuring criteria!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  375. larisalapointe says:

I think Conklin will be #1 in St-Louis based on Halak’s sucky first game. Does this sound about right in your way of thinking?

  376. Seps says:

Starting in goal, #31 CAREEEYYYY PRICE

  377. Laramy87 says:

I have read that about 8 times now on this board, do you shutup? Like you think the more and more you say it, Halak will come back?

  378. adam76 says:

    NOTHING to worry about about!!!

  379. adam76 says:

how many goal have Sanford let in?  how many shots?

  380. Laramy87 says:

Can we talk about these rookies tho… Lelance, Dumont and Tinordi, playing one hell of a game.

  381. zaq007 says:

Arrite everyone stop focusing on goaltending and focus on the fact we’re actually playing pretty good up front. I’m impressed with the shot count!

  382. JohnnyBEast says:

    They have been flying

  383. Bill J says:

    YES Palushaj too!!!

We are not going to see these guys a lot in the next 12 months, why not enjoy THEM.

Let’s not worry about Price tonight – it is after all the FIRST pre-season game.

  384. teebs says:

Hang on everyone…stop everything….the Leafs are up 4-1 over the Sens tonight….with James Reimer in net.

THIS JUST IN…the Leafs are gonna win the Stanley Cup this year, with James Reimer in net.

Because EVERYTHING we see in a preseason game is a DIRECT REFLECTION of whats to come in the real regular season. Bet everything on the Leafs…with James Reimer in net. Mortgage your house, sell off your furniture, bike to work after hocking the car….its a 100% GUARANTEE!!!!!

  385. zaq007 says:

Loving what I see from Palushaj

  386. volcano62 says:

    I know how many…..wait for it….a BIG FAT 0

  387. volcano62 says:

    29 shots so far…..Pretty good!

  390. volcano62 says:

LOL what a tool….Reimer played a better game than Price. FACT.

    Go Habs Go!

  391. zaq007 says:

I thought that was in xD

  392. pmaraw says:

who was the d that wired it off the post?

  393. volcano62 says:

Keep watching the game in your little stupid PRICE 31 t-shirt and zip it.

  394. JohnnyBEast says:

I believe in a team, not one person. Unlike you, I don’t hate people on the team I love.

  395. HabsTrueBlue says:

    Wasn’t it Palushaj? (not a D)

  396. pmaraw says:

oh man, i think ur right…  what a shot, I like that he went far side like that as well

  397. Ghosts of the Forum says:

It was Weber, Palushaj went to the net

  398. habs11s says:

Once again I am embarrassed to be a Habs fan, and my embarrassment does not stem from Carey Price or the team’s play tonight…

  399. habsfreak13 says:

    Nah, it was Weber.

  400. JohnnyBEast says:

Stop hating your team. It’s pointless to talk to people like you. You likely became a fan last spring…

  401. pmaraw says:

makes more sense, but man, what a shot.  if hes even remotely more reliable than MAB on D

  402. lavie says:

Get used to it. That’s part of Bell Centre.

  403. adam76 says:

I am a fan of stopping the puck – sad our ‘number” one can’t do said job

  404. volcano62 says:

  405. volcano62 says:

Grow up kid. You don’t know the real Canadiens…Roy, Chelios, Robinson, Lafleur, Rocket, Beliveau etc…. Price is just a joke and will become another Thibault and Theodore (Hell even Jose won the hart and vezina lol)

  406. teebs says:

FACT. You wouldn’t praise Price if he stood on his head. You’d claim he got off lucky, cause afterall…he was facing the Bruins ‘B’ team.

  407. fbkj says:

yeah cuz all goalies win the hart

    except for price

  408. volcano62 says:

Honestly that’s not true. If he played a good game and shut his critics I would have nothing to say. FACT.

  409. Laramy87 says:

I am not denying Rasks skill, but any one else think he is lucky???? he kinda just sits there and the puck hits him…. I remember two saves tonight he had no clue the puck hit him and went to the corner

  410. says:

The future looks very bright.  The kids played awesome tonight.  Rask, I hate you :)

    They Call Me Shane

  411. Mikey_39 says:

Every goalie needs luck. But na, Rask was on fire

  412. teebs says:

    Off topic for a sec….

does anyone know if Domenic Vannelli is related to pop sensation Gino Vannelli?

  413. aemarchand11 says:

FACT: Halaks and Prices numbers are both Trash after one game in the pre-season.. SO who cares!

    Go Habs Go!

  414. JohnnyBEast says:

Grow up? You’re keeping this going, seriously you need to stop living in the past. Be it Halak or the glory days of the Habs. The team that we have now is the team you should cheer for. I really hope you don’t tell people you are a habs fan, because you are not. In no way whatsoever. Figure your life out you plug.

  415. kelowna_HAB says:

FACT. Put a pic of your face up here and we’d all stop talking about Price.

  416. SLONCOLD says:

good positioning puts u in a position to be lucky sometimes.

  417. kelowna_HAB says:

Dad, you’re so negative. The Leafs are a team that has a lot to bitch about, go switch over please. We don’t want you.

  418. kelowna_HAB says:

Dad, you’re so negative. The Leafs are a team that has a lot to bitch about, go switch over please. We don’t want you.

  419. Mikey_39 says:

HAAAAA…..LAAAAK. Lol.  Man the bell center fans suck.  But I already knew that.  Anywho, it was a pretty exciting game.  Plecky is a beast, and I’m even more happy we resigned him, and anybody who says it was too much is a fool!  Plecky and Cammy showed they’Re carrying over the chemistry they built last year.  Louis Leblanc looks like a future star.  Palushaj looked pretty good too.  Gorges is a beast as always.  I gotta say, aside from the fact we lost, I gotta a good feeling about the Habs!

Btw, for everyone who felt the need to come out and say how halak let in three goals yesterday…there ya go.

  420. SLONCOLD says:

pre season lol calm down boys ladies and gents.

from a mangement prespective make all the mistakes and take all the risks you want in preseason. with out risk and learning there will be a lack in player development….

  421. slapshot777 says:

Never be embarrassed to be a Habs fan.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  422. crabvader says:

Rask stole one. We were definitely the better team. Made a few mistakes in the first period and early in the second that led to some Boston goals. 1st goal was a weak one and Price could’ve stopped it.

He overcommitted tonight and it was probably just nervousness. I think it would’ve been different on away ice.

Still, 3 other goals were all defensive lapses.

Good news is that we tightened up and played a good game afterwards. We outshot em, looked great on the PP but we got robbed by Rask.

Leblanc looked solid, Tinordi made some bogus passes but was still impressive, Conboy was fun to watch and I really liked Palushaj.

Seems Palushaj could still work on his play without the puck, notably his positionning but aside from that the kid has blazing speed and really good hands. He could probably also use a little more toughness as he was getting outmuscled a lot in the corners. Nothing that a little work with the strength and conditionning coach won’t fix.

Maxwell looked a little more loose on the ice and a little stronger, made some nice little passes but he needs to see the play further than just one move ahead.

Weber has an insane shot but he still needs to tighten up defensively. Pleks was flying… loved it!

Cammy showed some signs near the end but let’s remember that he also started a little slow last year.

All in all, a good performance, despite the loss.

  423. fbkj says:

did you just make sense or fart? cant tell on these boards…

  424. duffy says:

We should be fine with Price in net as long as we can score eight or more goals every game.

  425. JohnnyBEast says:

Well, it is preseason, and if you are taking it to be all that ends all, Halak is going to be terrible this season too

  426. habs_1993 says:

Not gonna say that i didnt care we lost, but man it was an exciting game. It was very fast pace and the habs were really applying the pressure in the 3rd

  427. SLONCOLD says:

i tried to make sense but in fairness i did fart while typing it lol.In all honesty this team showed some nice depth tonight with the youth. sure carey looked a lil rusty but he wasn’t the only one so no worries there. pres season is supposed to clarify issues with player skill sets coaching strategies and other things. once players are aware of what they have to work on they have 82 games to make it work.

  428. habs_1993 says:

I kinda agree with you, but he did make some pretty decent saves as well

  429. MTLForever says:

Rask played the whole game while other teams are letting their young guys play between the pipes (yes i know rask is young but you know i mean guys from ahl etc). defense didnt help pricey if bergeron can come in and deke twice like that. spacek got schooled. however, ITS ONE PRESEASON GAME. we havent even seen the beautiful subban yet!

everyone needs to calm down. halak didnt have the greatest first game in st.louis, is he playing tonight? no, bishop is. Price will be fine guys, and get over the trade already.

  430. slapshot777 says:

Just finished watching the post game interviews and when the players were asked about the play of Price, everyone to a man stood up for him, saying that they were more to blame than Price for giving Boston such high quality scoring chances. The guys were disappointed in the booing by the fans, because after all it was only a preseason game and the first one of the season.

People have to get over this Halak thing. The fans weren’t this ticked off when Roy was traded. I don’t remember anyone booing Thibault or Racicot for the crappy goals they let in. believe me those two let in more crappy goals in a short span than Price will in a lifetime.

After the first period other than the Spacek brain cramp giveaway, we played a very much up tempo game and if not for some lucky bounces for Rask and the Bruins this game could very easily have been tied. I can’t wait for Friday for the next game. I am very positive that this team will not be giving up 40+ shots this season.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  431. lavie says:

Have we seen players blaming each others in front of journalist? Do they have confidence in Price? I dont’ known. Time will tell, soon.

  432. fbkj says:

    again totally agreed

i cringed as much as the next guy on that first goal he let in but im also aware enough to know whats going on in these games

  433. otter649 says:

Sandford played a good game based on 4 shots on goal ?

  434. beebZ says:

    Damn…… the fans haven’t changed!!!!

  435. slapshot777 says:

Remember all those fans and media alike that wanted the Habs to draft Angelo Esposito, well I guess it goes to show that those people and media people don’t know jack sh!t about what they are talking about. Esposito who was drafted by Pittsburgh, and then traded to Atlanta was released today, so he is up for grabs for anyone to get.

I guess the Montreal management knew more than the fans and media when it comes to player evaluation. The favorite is not always the wise choice. I guess Esposito looks like he may turn out to be a Alexander Daigle. Another bust. I know that both of these guys are french born players, but it just  goes to show these moron politicians who have been calling for more french or Quebec born players to be on the Habs that the Quebec League ain’t producing top quality players in high numbers.

Sure there is a few, but they are low in numbers and the percentage over the past few years of Quebec League junior players drafted are really low compared to the rest of the CHL Leagues.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  436. rocketsglare says:

Love the jam of Lapierre, Leblanc, Palushaj, and Pouliot. Sanford was solid tonight and actually gave

this team a chance to come back.

The team clearly dominated all game long, but simply could not beat Rask for the win.  Other than

Price not being ready to play, I would say that the team played overall well and should take these

    positives into the next game.

    Go Habs Go!

  437. slapshot777 says:

Yeah Sanford gave the Habs a chance alright. He had what, 6 shots? to face in the last 30 minutes. The habs basically played in the Bruins end all night after the first period. I think Boston only had 4 shots in the third period and the Habs outshot the Bruins 38-16.

It had nothing to do with Price not ready to play, it was more of Boston getting high quality scoring chances to score and they made the most on them. It also didn’t hurt that NHLer’s score for the Bruins not any rookies who may have rushed a play or over handled the puck.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  438. otter649 says:

Esposito is going to The AHL not released from Atlanta’s organization……….

  439. rocketsglare says:

It’s just one game and clearly Price was not ready to start this game. But, Price is going to have to

demonstrate soon that he is deserving of being a #1 netminder and giving up 4 goals in his post

Halak trade debut is not going to go well with the faithful.

He is going to have to forget quickly this game and prepare himself for his next start and that will

tell volumes about his ability to rebound under difficult circumstances. If he is unable and continues

to struggle with questionable play, the we do have problems for the future of this team.

Let’s wait and see how Price performs during the pre-season before passing judgment.

    Go Habs Go!

  440. Caballero says:

If I were Price I would use all of this resistance being thrown at me in this town. Obviously, the situation is that he has zero room for error. It’s fine, if nothing else all of this pressure and abuse will make him stronger. Then he can leave and win a cup in another city. Montreal is not the place for young players to develop; they have to arrive here ready to play. Price is basically going to do his time in the minors in Montreal and move on to play elsewhere once he pays his dues here.

  441. skoalbandit says:

it makes me sick when fans boo price. REAL fans support their players not make a mockery of them. not to mention this is a pre season game. the pre season it to get back in “game shape”

these fans almost make me embarresed to wear the bleu blanc et rouge

  442. skoalbandit says:

  443. rocketsglare says:

Yet the Habs had more than 30 shots on goal, many of them high quality shots, and Rask was

    up to the challenge.

Unlike Price, Rask was ready to play tonight.

    Go Habs Go!

  444. kordic says:

    Totally agree.

In my opinion, Price wins many cups wearing a different jersey.

“The ghosts are gone. The Canadiens have two choices, try and win the cup or be French Canadian” – Ken Dryden

  445. slapshot777 says:

Give it time, A player supposedly of his calibre according to the so called experts should be playing right now. I mean if he is really going to crack the NHL, teams like Phoenix, Atlanta, Florida are places where young players should have very little problem in making the team.

I guess Esposito still has lots of work to do.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  446. Caballero says:

I am not sure what to think about the booing. On the one hand, it is disgusting, but on the other hand there are no more excuses. The reality is that Montreal is a merciless town when it comes to hockey, and being an athlete is merciless. There are no excuses, and you often have one chance to prove your worth. Think about athletes in the olympics who train for years and have one shot. In my mind, Price wanted to show us all tonight and prove to himself that he is ready and he blew that one chance. He did not have the will or the ability to do it. Of course there will be other games and it is a team effort, and Price will win and lose many games in his career, but the point is that he had a chance tonight to silence his critics and he wasn’t able to. That is the bottom line and it is a bad sign for the season as a whole because the pressure will get worse and the competition will be more intense.

  447. Caballero says:

Thanks man, but I just realized that the scary thing is that this may be Price’s plan? Oh well…

  448. Caballero says:

Ok I feel weird replying to my own message, but definitely this booing is bad in the sense that if I were facing the habs, I would tell my players to score the first goal and you can turn the building against him and throw him off his game. Not good.

  449. terrygain says:

When the trade was made I said that if Price did not play better than last year he would be booed out of town. A smart GM would have factored this fact into his decision.   Management eschewed a sure thing for a guy who needs to play better to survive. Let’s  hope Price plays better so I don’t have to tell Bill J, I told you so.

Did anyone notice how those Maple Leaf fans are such sheep? They support management no matter what. It’sno wonder they haven’t won in 43 years.

  450. nunacanadien says:

In the same way we have to now take Price’s losses while he learns on the job here at our expense and at the expense of any good backup goalie like Halak who shows promise?  And you Price fans call yourself Habs fans content to live with what five or six years of losses under Price while he “matures”????

  451. nunacanadien says:

Price’s stay at home deep in the net doesn’t help much either, it allows players like Bergeron to basically skate in like he did and take those quality shots.  It’s not about Gill or Gorges supporting Halak last year, it was Halak coming out of the net to challenge that helped win games.

  452. nunacanadien says:

Heck, in the Price stats war, Sandford is a hockey goalie God then if you compare stats against Price.  Sandford has made 100% of saves, what an incredible statistic!  No wonder Gauthier let Halak go, Sandford is our next starter!

  453. kordic says:

    I thought i was bad.

Reality check. 1st pre season game.

“The ghosts are gone. The Canadiens have two choices, try and win the cup or be French Canadian” – Ken Dryden

  454. slapshot777 says:

St.Louis won tonight 5-1 over Minnesota. Some guy named Bishop played in nets tonight for St. Louis only let in one goal, I guess he is going to be the starter, too bad Halak will have to be a backup because he sucked in his first game so he doesn’t deserve the number one status.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  455. terrygain says:

Halak allowed 3 goals on 18 shots. Price allowed 4 goals on 9 shots.

Did anyone notice how those Maple Leaf fans are such sheep? They support management no matter what. It’s no wonder they haven’t won in 43 years.

  456. BKAK72 says:

    The 2009/10 Toronto Maple Leafs had a PRE-SEASON record of:  6 W + 3 L

    …time to chill…

    — I will not apologize for being a delirious HABS fan! —

  457. Xtrahabsfan says:

Ah those Priceaholics look like deer in your headlights,eh! WHAT DID YOU ALL THINK WOULD HAPPEN !

  458. Caballero says:

Well as a Habs fan I was hoping he would make some stops and we would win. Call me crazy dude!

  459. Mattyleg says:

I’m disgusted with the fans that would boo their own goalie.

    Classless. Absolutely classless.

I hope Price leaves so that he can play for a team that isn’t outright insulting.

And that goes for a lot of imbeciles posting on here.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  460. avatar_58 says:

Yeah that annoyed me, especially the dipshits who cheered Sanford like he made massive saves.

Go home if you aren’t real fans.

  461. daveho29 says:

very well said, short and to the point.

Makes me ashamed to be a “sports” fan

  462. observer says:

Re: “I hope Price leaves so that he can play for a team that isn’t outright insulting. And that goes for a lot of imbeciles posting on here” – — ——- — —– Those “imbeciles here” said this would happen the second he let in his first soft goal and it sure didn’t take him long to accomplish it. Seems to me everyone with at least a half a brain thoiught this was the pressure price would have on him here this season EXCEPT the real imbeciles who didn’t know it – Gainey and Gauthier. Hell they shouldn’t even have started him in the first HOME game. This is sheer insanity. The 2 of them should be immediately fired.

  463. Caballero says:

In other news, it sucks to be Tim Thomas right now!

  464. skoalbandit says:

I agree mattylegs, makes me sick

real fans cheer for their players

  465. observer says:

only thing that sucks is “they” traded away the wrong goaltender – and “their” jobs now are on melting thin ice.

  466. larisalapointe says:

1979 After winning 3 Stanley cups in a row along with the Vezina 3 times, on his way to winning a fourth set, Ken Dryden was booed for letting in 4 goals against the Rangers. It bothered him a lot. What horrible fan would boo Ken Dryden?

    Price is amongst privileged company.

  467. observer says:

the worst analogy i ever saw.

  468. christophor says:

dave, after a bad media day, i hope you’ll show up to talk to the HIO posters. it’ll tough, but we’ll be sympathetic. hickey or mio should be advising you to do this as well. hard advice, especially if you don’t want to, but thats what teammates are for.

just kidding, dave. i love your articles. thinking of getting a stubbs poster for my wall.

  469. HFX-HabFan says:

Is it just me, or did Stubbs take the Price piece down?  Too negative and pointless?

  470. Bugs says:

Leblanc didn’t look too lost out there, did he?

    Palushaj wasn’t bad either.

    Reprovingly reproof-proof, here sits

L.Bugs Potter, esq. Assistant Head Honcho to what goes down in Chinatown, Big Cheese at Flannelcorp Media, and Lead Copy-boy at Habsbros Hard Data Factory:

  471. Mattyleg says:

From the highlights I saw, Palushaj looked alright.

Didn’t see much of Leblanc, apart from his shot that was kicked away.

    But those were just highlights…

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  472. habs03 says:

Take away the bad goals, and we outplayed them in every single way, Rask was amazing, Price was bad but Spacek was awful. Lost a lot of respect for the writers of HIO here who unfair complain about Price not talking to the media (Halak never talked to the media after loss last year, while Price did), and to make it even worst, shortly after the thread is removed.

  473. Harani says:

I just think this is being way blown out of proportion. Some morons who booed at the Bell Centre shouldn’t be given so much spotlight and importance. The media is effectively doing their job of making this seem like a big issue. Yes he did have a bad game and I think he knows it. Doesn’t have to be hammered in by asking lame questions. What would you have asked him anyways?

Carey, what did you feel about the crowd’s response? How do you think you can do better in the next? What about your teammates, was it because of them? Same old question and Price would have given you the same old answer and people might have said “Oh look at him. He doesn’t seem to care.” This is totally ridiculous that this much is being put into this story. Then again, what was I thinking? This is Montreal.

Go Habs! Go Pricey! I am with you!

    “It must be love!”

  474. Xtrahabsfan says:

    Wow, Carey Price sucked tonight….SUCKED!

  475. skoalbandit says:

bad goals? one bad goal. deflected at that. a 3 on 1, a breakaway, and a laser of a onetimer.

  476. observer says:

for whatever reason(because gainey and gauthier told them how great a star the “foever young” goalie will be) – the media keeps ignoring price’s record since jan. 1, 2009 until now where he won roughly 20 games against 47 losses.

  477. larisalapointe says:

Maybe you can describe to us goal by goal how exactly he sucked?

  478. observer says:

it’s going on now for almost 2 complete years since jan. 1, 2009. maybe its time to realize he never will be the star especially here that all were TOLD he would be?

  479. observer says:

    the already famous catching hand

  480. Caballero says:

Bottom line, he let in a lot of goals man. Sometimes you get your butt handed to you. 3 goals in a row in one period man, there is no excuse for that. It is what it is. When Price plays well I will be the first one to sing his praises, but he did not play well tonight. Let’s see how he bounces back from this. I am excited for the first game vs Toronto, but worried we may lose a key player like last year! Man, why can’t someone just hand Grabassky his rear end. What a punk.

  481. Muckbringer says:

in the end who didnt enjoy that game?

how about we start the best band name catagory again?

  482. Muckbringer says:

    nothing here to fret about

  483. Muckbringer says:

    plenty to see here folkes

  484. larisalapointe says:

Catching hand….hilarious. Now try to explain Spacek`s 2 blunders.

  485. observer says:

rask made a lot of great saves. fans here have very recent memory of halak’s outstanding play, price’s failures since jan. 1, 2009 almost 2 full years – that is the pressure price faces and what was it 4 goals allowed on the first 8 shots and now the booing even more in his head? this is where gainey and gauthier put him and i think – ruined prices career from day 1 when they traded huet and put all that pressure on the kid who then cracked and as fragile as he is even more pressure now – they are the ones to blame – i feel sorry for price.

  486. Mattyleg says:

It’s true that it will be blown out of proportion, but when I hear fans jeering their own team, it makes me mad.

Especailly the first exhibition game of the year, for eff’s sake.

Plus, looking at the reaction in the dressing room shows that it has an effect on the whole team, not just Price.

    Dumb dumb dumb.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  487. Tremblant Habs Fan says:

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned but RIS is showing pre-season Habs games aswell.

  488. Caper says:

I left the sight and when I came back it was gone. This is whole thing is nuts. Leaf fans panic after exhibition games.

  489. observer says:

georges laraque was CHEERED on the one goal he scored last year. rocket richard was CHEERED by the same canadiens fans when he scored a goal once. puts him in good company? a terrible analogy.

  490. larisalapointe says:

Really? Maybe you should learn to read between the lines.

  491. observer says:

hard to when the lines are miles apart. i repeat – terrible comparison.

  492. larisalapointe says:

OK observer, I see we have become great friends already. lol

  493. observer says:

all i am saying is this less than stellar play by price has been going on for almost 2 full years and we are now 5 years after he was drafted – isn’t it time to realize he is not the star the #5 overall pick was supposed to become?

  494. larisalapointe says:

observer, I don`t know the future, I would just like to see this team win another Stanley cup. I used to ditch school once a year to attend the Stanley Cup parade in the 70`s. Most of the teams since then have been awful. We could argue until next month who the better goalie is. Halak is gone and Price is here.  Price is still too young to give up on. But I respect your opinion but I have mine is all.

  495. ghabsg says:

  496. nunacanadien says:

And Price’s backup posted better stats….suprise!

  497. Mattyleg says:

Just because people on this forum said it would happen doesn’t make it right.

None of this gives anyone the right to be insulting to someone going out to do their best for a team I love.

Go back to screaming at your video games.

    —Hope Springs Eternal—

  498. observer says:

didnt say it was right. i said everyone knew this would happen here on the first soft goal or goals even if it wasnt his fault. yet gainey and gauthier as stubborn as they are that they were right in 2005 when they took him – they put him in this spot. you didnt have to be a genius to know FOR SURE this was going to happen. i repeat they should not have started him in the first HOME game. they are total incompetants.

  499. Mattyleg says:

The sad thing is that people who think like you also think that by booing Price they will ‘force’ whoever is on their blacklist (sad people who make those) out of town.

Just enjoy the game and leave your petty grudges for your work and families.
