  1. TomNickle says:

They can’t really do that though cuz they need to acquire salary.

I think if you include Andrei in that it works for them but if I’m Gauthier they need to send a pick in that package because Andrei and Lupul are essentially a wash to begin with and you’re helping them get to the cap floor with Hamrlik and stabilizing their blueline.

  2. andrewberkshire says:

Depends who we can get for him. Ultimately I want some return on Andrei and he’ll likely get less return as an RFA at the end of the season than he would getting traded at the deadline. One thing I’ve seen several times that I really wish would happen is Hamrlik for Lupul.

  3. Rugger says:

Really can’t think of many examples of a player that was traded, returning to a team and being successful, in any sport.

  4. TomNickle says:

We can’t add Byfuglien and throw him into our top 6.  We don’t have Toews and Kane combination to carry him.

Ladd on the other hand is an intriguing idea because he’s skilled.  Ladd would have to go with Gomez and Gionta, not a bad proposition though.

That addition would mean however that Eller would be relegated to the 3rd line.  Maybe not a bad thing if you give him spot duty in the top 6 when somebody’s hurt.

  5. kempie says:

Sacrifice if possible. You make a very good point about AK lighting it up in his contract year. It likely is gonna happen. Maybe we wait the obligatory 10 weeks after camp for it to happen and try and unload him then but, honestly, I’ve seen enough. If we try and move him during the season, we’d be looking for a roster player coming back and that would probably be a tough chore. If we move him now for picks, get him off the books along with Hamr, then we can go to the hockey store and do some shopping. The store is open 24/7 for the next couple of weeks.

  6. TomNickle says:

No place for Higgins in our top 6.

Most guys succeed when they leave Montreal.  He’s actually been the exception to that rule which scares me.

I think we’ve seen the best of Chris Higgins, and it wasn’t consistent enough to earn him a permanent top 6 spot.
