The Habs had a look at a new defenceman for Thursday’s game. Name is Carey Price. Helmet looks a little weird, but he’s got a heck of a shot. Spies shot this from seventh-floor press gallery with a video camera, taken at great personal risk. An anonymous fellow spy from La Presse whom we’ll identify only as “Marc-Antoine Godin” reports that Price, er, borrowed P.K. Subban’s gloves and Benoit Pouliot’s stick for the tryout. Another photo below.
Canadiens coach Jacques Martin reports that forwards Tomas Plekanec and Jeff Halpern, who missed the third period of Tuesday’s game vs. Washington with lower-body injuries, are considered day to day and might be available to play Thursday at home vs. Tampa Bay. Neither injury is deemed long-term.
The aching Habs took their second team photo of the season on Bell Centre ice at 10:30 am, the post-trade deadline version that is considered the official 2010-11 club portrait. As he usually is for practice, Plekanec was first on the ice for the photo.
Not on hand, but to be Photoshopped into the final image, were Max Pacioretty, Andrei Markov and Josh Gorges, all injured and unavailable to pose, and Hal Gill, who stayed home ill. Jaroslav Spacek, rehabbing from arthroscopic knee surgery, wore his jersey with shorts, knee socks and sneakers.
Only four Canadiens practised following the 10-minute photo session: Alex Auld, Alexandre Picard, Mathieu Darche and Brent Sopel. The rest of the team worked out off ice.
Carey Price lets fly after the Canadiens’ four-man practice Wednesday.
