Pateryn, Thomas, Blunden among eight players reassigned to Bulldogs

The Canadiens trimmed their training camp roster Thursday, reassigning eight players to the Hamilton Bulldogs, including defencemen Greg Pateryn (photo above), Darren Dietz and Magnus Nygren.

The Canadiens are also sending forwards Christian Thomas, Michael Blunden, Patrick Holland, Martin St-Pierre and Nick Tarnasky back to the Bulldogs.

The Habs will have defenceman Nathan Beaulieu and Michaël Bournival in the lineup for the team’s final preseason game Thursday night at the Bell Centre against the Ottawa Senators (7:30 p.m., RDS, TSN Radio 690). Beaulieu, the Canadiens’ first-round pick at the 2011 draft, played his first preseason game Wednesday night against the Senators in Kanata after suffering a shoulder injury early in training camp.

Defenceman Jarred Tinordi, who has played all of the Habs’ preseason games, won’t play Thursday night.

With the latest cuts, the Canadiens now have 27 players left at training camp.

Thirteen players – all veterans with the exception of Gabriel Dumont – skated in Brossard Thursday morning. The group included defenceman Douglas Murray, who has been out with a lower-body injury. He won’t be playing in Thursday’s game but expects to be “ready and available” for the Canadiens’ season opener Tuesday at the Bell Centre against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Here’s the Habs’ lineup for Thursday night’s game:

Brian Gionta
Brendan Gallagher

Why are so many people freaking out?
It is pre-season, it does not count for anything nor does it indicate what will come in the regular season.

    Hockey sine stercore tauri.

  4. The Capitalist Pig says:

Is this game as bad on TV as it sounds on radio?

  5. HabinBurlington says:

Have to say DD does indeed look quicker this season.

  6. FishOutOfWater says:

omg why do we suck? im watching this game and working but everytime i pop my head up we are either buried in our own end or we are running up ice only to have the rush broken up by the sens blue line… damn

  7. Habsolutely says:

    Lots of chances there…

  8. J.Ambrose.OBrien says:

The little optimism I had for this season is quickly fading.

  9. HabFab says:

    Ohhhh nasty!!

    Marc Antoine Godin –

Après 26 minutes de jeu dans ce match, les Senators de Binghamton ont 20 lancers et le Canadien en a 9.

  10. HabinBurlington says:

Nifty stick lift by Bournival, that would would have been a sweet goal if he buried it. Good to see.

  11. HabinBurlington says:

Gionta does a lot of little things well, no pun intended. Good to see him back on the ice.

Again, too many games spent looking at the NKOTB.

Come on, boys, play like you give a $hy#)te.

  20. Therrien better be chewing these guys up right now. That Sens team playing hard. Out hitting, out skating, out playing, out everything. 1-1 is a gift right now. Lets go Habs show us you belong!

Sweet finish, sweet pass. That was nice.

  42. nickster13 says:

Worried about our D-corps. Diaz is useless, Markov is a shadow of his former self, Beaulieu needs another year or so, and Bouillon looks aged.
    What’s the solution? any ideas?

“I don’t wanna see Maurice tonight, I want the Rocket!”

  43. habsfan1001 says:

    PLeks sold that one.

  44. HabinBurlington says:

So i recognize the players do not get paid for exhibition games, any chance the referees get time and a half pay for exhibition?

  45. crabvader says:

In my opinion, our players should put even less effort into these games as they do the all-star game…

Just try and time passes well, know where your teammates are at all times and try to tweak the small things. No sense going out there playing your ass off. Where are the 2 points at stake, here?

  46. Habsolutely says:

    Damn, that was close…

  47. habsfaninboston says:

Eller served that on a silver platter for Gally.

  54. twilighthours says:

    Soooo… Anyone enjoying this game?

  55. HabinBurlington says:

Hmmmm, lots of undisciplined penalties so far. Hopefully the boys wake up soon.

  56. Luke says:

So, Pk crosschecks o’brien, as dmen are allowed to do (see Gallagher) and goon kassian comes in. So, goon on skill guy… Can Pk slash him now? If it was o’brien, i’d so ‘no, you started it’ but its a third party useless goon… Who’s never going to engage a skilful Norris trophy winner, right? So, PK, slash away.

    This ‘code’ is complex stuff.

  57. habsfan1001 says:

I have a feeling its going to be a long season.

  58. Danno says:

    Wake up!

  59. habstrinifan says:

This is effing ridiculous. They look awful. And if someone again tells me that the HABS were 4th or something like that in scoring last year I’m gonna blow a gasket.

Cant we get a freakinn team that shows some combination and ‘forehand’ passing in the o-zone and thus setting up shots from the slots… instead of shooting pucks through the paint and hoping for some kinda stuff in. When last did we have a freakin coach in Mtl who knew how to coach offense.

If our PP doesnt score we are gonna be in deep trouble. our offensive play sucks.

Effing ridiculous our offense. And we start play for real in a few days.

  60. Savardian Spin-o-rama says:

Bush play by PK. Hehehe, that rhymes! Now, a haiku…Habs suck.

  61. frontenac1 says:

So this is the Sens rookies playing our vets tonight?

  63. slyCH says:

Diaz really continuing on his pre-season insignificance here.

  64. johnnylarue says:

Methinks the Habs defensive ‘system’ is due for a revisit. Not pretty.

  65. habs12 says:

wow, gameplan vs. the habs: forecheck and pressure the d. our guys can never breakout of the zone.

  66. Mavid says:

uh…why is that not a call?

    Weed Wacker Grandma Smurf

  67. punkster says:

Chucky (edit) weak clearing and puts everyone on the spot…just a kid but he’ll get better.

  68. Dickie9 says:

Galchenyuk is starting to remind me of a guy in my beer league can skate like the wind and look great at times..but accomplishes very little on the ice in terms of production and goal scoring.

  69. Harditya says:

Markov, Diaz, Price all lost there..

    • Trisomy 21 says:

I know it goes against the rules here, but that was a terrible no-look clearing attempt by Galchenyuk that gave them possession in the first place.

      • Harditya says:

You are right, he’s still prone to many defensive gaffes which is why I am glad Martin is not the current the head coach. He would never see any ice time. He might refine his game quicker than we expect him to, he just needs to be exposed to more scenarios.

    • slapshot777 says:

There is times when the Habs all get a brain cramp at the one time and they all panic and rather than play along the boards they all go to the middle and accomplish nothing

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  74. kerrgte says:

the idea of combining eller, galchenyuck and galagher is very naive. Both Chuck and Galagher need a vet to enable their talent to emerge. these are still essentially rookies.

I was not impressed with mt’s last nite’s line-up. Utter nonsense at this stage to “see what these young draftees have got” – simply nonsense. The young players got overwhelmed – pure and simple. Not one mtl player had a chance to do anything or show anything.

With this eller, gally, chuck combination, the opposing coaches only need their secondary checking line. Whatever is mt thinking?? This is no way to advance these young players !!

    • Habitant in Surrey says:

…I thought it was great Therrien gave the young prospects a game to measure Themselves before being assigned

…it was a meaningless preseason game with zero points involved

…so, should be meaningless to Us as well as far as it’s importance …the’importance’ was giving something to these kids …experience to grow and learn

  75. habstrinifan says:

OK… I’m gonna say it first. I think this is a big game for Gallagher.
I have concerns re Gallagher’s development. I dont have the answers, but I think he needs to be ‘coached’ back to being the type of player he was in junior. He was of course a fiesty player in junior, but he also was a top 3 forwrd in junior and played and thought like one.

I really want him to be all about point production ahead of ‘being a charcater’ ‘net presence’ kind of guy. Playmaking and escaping traffic and getting wrist shots on net.

I dont want another promising HABS ‘forward’ player derailed by trying to be a ‘heart and soul’ guy.

Hope tonight and first reg season week are big for him.
I am not worried about Galchenyuk as much as I am about Gallagher. Galchenyuk is still basically a junior.
