Hey VancouverHab, what is the story on Brian Burke getting that reporter Jim Mullin fired out there. He did some interview with the blowhard, then was told to apologize on air the next day which he did and then they fired him. Good old Burkie still making friends out West eh?
Funny — the one inside info that I have on anyone public is on Burke, and that he is exactly that vindictive (he blackballed the #1 radio talk show guy here [Dan Russell] for in effect asking a reporter-style question). So yep, it’s good that he’s in TO where they kow-tow to him (credit to the Vancouver media, for having some independence–even where it cost the reporter you mention his job.)
Don’t misunderstand, I’m not trying to make an argument “for” Gomez. I’m simply suggesting he’s here, he’s not leaving any time soon, he wears the uniform and as such I’ll cheer for him. I slagged a few players in the past who have come around (Pacioretty, Gill, AK to a degree and others). I’m not going to make the same mistake with someone of Gomez’s history. Hey, maybe he is at the end of his career. But at 31? I frankly doubt it.

That is the attitude I was taking towards him all season. I really believed for awhile, maybe a nagging injury. Then thought okay playoffs different story, saw the 2 assist game and was like wow. Little different story since. I actually hope in the offseason we find out about some kind of injury, but that just doesn’t make sense either. On the positive side, there was that brief period with Max Pac and Gionta, they all seemed to have their mojo. Let us hope.
I know the Bruins have never won a series after losing the first two at home, have the Habs ever lost a series after winning the first two on the road?

Of course if Price and Subban were nominated you wouldn’t be saying that. Chara +33 and a 2 way force for Boston. Doesn’t seem like an unreasonable nomination to me.
Plus/minus is a weak stat, and out of context plus/minus is even weaker. In Chara’s case it has a lot to do with Boston’s great 5 on 5 play. Among NHL league leaders in plus/minus Boston have 3 in the top 10, 5 in the top 20, and 7 out of the top 30. Boston has a whopping 23% of the top 30 +/- players in the league. The great Adam McQuaid was only +3 behind Chara, in 14 less games.
Lisnovsky had 4 more goals (13 5-on-5 goals) and 20! more assists (top 10 among all players) than Chara, all while being plus-18, which made him only one of two Ducks D-men above plus-1. I don’t think the difference of +15 makes up for the 24 more points that Visnovsky scored.
Sorry ManApart it has nothing to do with me being a Habs homer, just someone disappointed that a solid defenseman that had a crazy good offensive season can’t get Norris consideration because the 19th highest scoring defenseman has a “reputation”.
Visnovsky doesn’t play the penalty kill, neither does Yandle and Letang while having a good season, got hurt by weak points production in the final leg of the season.

That’s a good point, Visnovsky and Yandle don’t get big PK minutes, but both Lidstrom and Weber only get second pair PK minutes.
Visnovsky’s offense was just so good this year, I have a hard time believing that a slightly off-year Chara should get nominated ahead of him.
