Optional skate today in advance of Game 3

The Canadiens held an optional practice Monday
at noon in Brossard, with only the players who didn’t play on Sunday (or barely played) in
Pittsburgh taking to the ice. Other players worked out in the gym or on
stationary bikes.

Still no word on the nature or severity of
Andrei Markov’s injury. The star defenceman is still undergoing tests,
and his uncertain status precludes an emergency call-up.

Penguins’ hit man Matt Cookie is saying his foot was nearly cut by P.K. Subban’s skate in Game 2 and links the incident to Jordan Staal’s cut in Game 1.

 • • •

“It’s the second time (it’s happened),” Cooke told the Beaver County Times. “I know it’s not a penalty when skates collide but for that to happen in back-to-back games by the same guy is suspicious.”

•  •  •

As expected, no supplemental disciplinary action on Craig Adams for the late-game hit on Marc-André Bergeron.

Tweeted by Jaro Halak’s agent, Allan Walsh: NBC’s broadcast of Mtl-Pitt, Gm 2 had a 1.6
overnight rating up 14% from last yr. In viewership, it’s 1.6M v. 1.4M a
yr ago.

As you can see, our politicians love wasting their time arguing about things on the internet, what a joke.

  4. ArmyFan says:

Never said a word about his age.  My dad is 72 and sharp as a whip.

Cole makes error after painful error.  He is most definitely daft.  Other great broadcasters, like he himself once was (reference the dying seconds of the 1993 Cup final) knew when it was time to quit.  Their employers knew when it was time to suggest that they move on to other things.  For some reason, it just ain’t happening with this guy.

As for grey hairs, I’ve got a few of those myself.  Not many, but every time I look it seems there’s a few more.

  5. Aybara says:

Problem is, he is daft. Guy can’t remember half the names on the ice. Or his visions gone, one or the other.

Either way, he isn’t fit to be a hockey commentator anymore.

  6. Corio says:

    Oops  😛

  7. CHsam says:

I’ve been waking up everyday thinking about how to mess with the Pens’ feet.

  8. Lafrich says:

I don’t see where anyone mentioned anything about age.

I think we all just think that he is, and always was, slightly ummm…errr…slow?

  10. SeriousFan09 says:

President’s Trophy teams have been rather unsuccessful sicne the lockout, there’s regular season success, than there’s postseason success. Three teams were eliminated in the quarter finals and only the 08 Red Wings have a Stanley Cup ring to go with their trophy.

Still amazed we knocked Washington off, but the President’s Trophy is becoming more of a bad omen than having Hossa on your team.

    Psst! It’s imbecile…

  12. Eliisa says:

Haha, you absolutely must submit that to the NHL. Awesome.

Can you believe that the best team during the regular season is going to select before the Habs?

  17. Will Longlade says:

Like I said in the other forum, I hope OB flattens Cooke like a pancake or at least does the same number on him that he did to Backstrom.

  18. G-Man says:

Just because he’s old doesn’t mean he’s daft. A lttle respect for people with some grey hair, please.

  19. Fansincebirth says:

Cooke’s mindless bellowing is very reminiscent of a certain Mr. Ovechkin’s from last series. Trying to stir things up are we Cooke?

Wouldn’t mind seeing Gill or O’Byrne rag-doll Cooke first to scare him shitless then do this to him.

  22. SeriousFan09 says:

Even if we exit now, we’re selecting in the final eight spots unless PG trades up in the 2010 draft, provided no movement in the order, there isn’t much left really, most of the Ds look to be going in the first 20 picks.

  30. sidhu says:

Good stuff.  The Jaro one is good too.

  31. sidhu says:

    Oh the irony.

  32. J Haul says:

I didn’t think Cooke could be any more of a douche bag, but there you have it. What a piece of work.

  33. Ayan_SB says:

There seems to be a good crop of young D at this year’s draft, and I sincerely hope the Habs draft a tough, defensive defenseman who will one day compliment PK Subban’s style. Any thoughts?

  38. SeriousFan09 says:

Pensblog is written by some outright fanboys who could give Loafs fans a run for their money on ignorance.

I normally don’t remember particular blogs when I link off of Yahoo’s Puck Daddy for their daily headline links, but when they linked to this I seriously lost a ton of respect for those guys and laughed this blog off when they referenced Montreal fans as the “Eurotrash” fans.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  39. ArmyFan says:

How can the Penguins stand having Cooke in their dressing room? Now I guess you could add “comic relief” as a reason.

And this is the guy the CBC chose to “mike” yesterday, and heap praise upon at every opportunity.  Real role model and inspiration for us to listen to.  And now a bonafide, on the record dumba$$ as well.

  40. sidhu says:

Matt Cooke better watch his back in Montreal.

His comment on PK is ridiculous — PK has been playing the game of hockey for years and years, and if he was intentionally hurting players (as he implies) or being reckless with his skates or causing a disproportionate number of injuries, it would have come up by now.

I also resent his implication that PK is capabe of wrong.  (Kidding, I know PK is young and will make his fair share of mistakes as does any rookie).

  41. lavie says:

Wish we had TWO PK Subban.

  42. boy from school says:

ummm………so basically matt cooke is a mongoloid.

  43. adam76 says:

Wow – so with Montreal in, ratings increased by 14%.   now that is really going to kill all those conspiracy stories.

    Oh well.

Playoff Stuff by Seth Rorabaugh / Post-Gazette.com

    Penguins-Canadiens +

Kettle, pot on line one. Matt Cooke sort of, kind of, called Canadiens defenseman PK Subban reckless after Cooke was dinged up by Subban’s skate. Subban injured Jordan Staal when their skates collided in Game 1.

-“It’s never about one guy or one player. It’s about how a team plays as a group.” – Cammalleri on his team missing defensman Andrei Markov.

  45. Bahamut-Prime says:

Really Matt Cooke, you’re discussing suspicious behavior that ends up in injury.

  46. ShangaDoo says:

    Ok. No.

    Matt Cooke is…

We’re talking about P.K Subban, here. What has this kid got against you Cooke?

Im pretty sure P.K just wakes up thinking how he’s going try and mess up your feet. What a prick.

    Saying it’s pretty suspicious! Whatever.

  47. HabFanSince72 says:

    Pennsylvania Dutch porn.

  48. habs33 says:

Anyone see this yet? The Pens Blog

Either this is written by a 12 year old or there are some idiot fans running this blog, or both. Subban with an intent to injure Cooke AND Staal?! Gimme a break! He’s a tough kid who’s out to play hard and finish his checks. I can assure you if the same thing happened to a Canadien, regardless of what Penguin did it, no accusations would be made.

Matt Cooke is a sore loser who’s trying to drum up a controversy where there isn’t one. Wait, this sounds familiar…except it was last week from an enigmatic Russian and a thirsty, shaky-handed goalie!

  49. jimmy shaker says:

And Cooke’s hits aren’t suspicious?  Most of Cooke’s hits are borderline/late/dirty etc.  And usually result in injury to his opponent and/or suspension for Cooke.  What a little puke throwing that rant out there to the media.  I hope three times a charm tomorrow night from PK!

Any word on Campbell coming down on Adams?  Going out on a limb here and going to say nothing will come of it!

  50. ArmyFan says:

When Bob Cole went to bed last night, he probably didn’t remember he’d been at a hockey game earlier in the day.

  51. Mad Habber says:

HAHA Cooke is messing with him… Of course he would think it was intentional…he just wished he’d thought of it first.

  52. Y says:

    LMFAO @ Cooke

Any chance the Thrasher’s could loan us Evander Kane?

  53. nick says:

    In response to Matt Cooke…

Sure, looking at the Markov hit you could say it was clean etc, etc… But given it was Cooke involved… You might think twice…

  54. light_n_tasty says:

    Beaver County Times?

  55. Drive_For_25 says:

Is Matt Cooke serious???  I would love to see someone end this guys career with the most vicious dirty hit ever.  What a useless P.O.S!!  He’s the reason why Vinny is no longer a great player, and might never again be the player he was.  I wish Kane would’ve knocked him out for good!!

  56. deggy24 says:

I can just see all the Pee Wee hockey players in Canada breaking their sticks on the oppositions post/crossbar, and mouthing off all game to the ref like whiny babies. What a pathetic example of sportsmanship. Crosby should be fined by the league.

Now Cooke mouthing off like a total hypocrit.

Not having any problem getting a hate on for these Penguins. Appears we are in their kitchen.

  57. adam76 says:

“”Still no word on the nature or severity of Andrei Markov’s injury.””

Bob Cole said yesterday that Markov is out for the playoffs – so you know it must be true.
