Canadiens defensive prospect Ryan O’Byrne hopes his size and rugged play will convince management to keep him with the club this season.
“This team doesn’t have a lot of size and I’m hoping that will work in my favour,” the 6-foot-5, 238-pound defenceman said. “I want a chance to show people what I can do. I think I had a solid year in Hamilton, especially late in the season and in the playoffs, and I think I’m ready for the NHL.”
But O’Byrne also stands out because of his skating skills and mobility, especially for a player of his size. “He’s effective because he’s able to time his hits,” said Trevor Timmins, Canadiens director of player personnel.
