Not a single break

But this ain’t over

  1. HotHabs says:

Yes, I laughed at that one, too.  But, they go with the “4th seed is supposed to win” mentality.  If they were honest they would be reporting headlines like “Pens feel pressure as underdog Habs go for series lead”

  2. Exit716 says:

You’re happy that a first round pick was wasted on a house league talent?

    Good for you.

Timmins record in the first round is pretty bloody abysmal.

  3. 24 Cups says:

    Robert – True dat!

  4. light_n_tasty says:

    *rolls eyes*

  5. oshawahabsfan says:

I’d take them over a guy who’s nickname is “Pony” anyday

  6. J. Ambrose says:

Yeah, he’d be great were it not for his brain lapses, like referring to “Jonas” Plekanic.

  7. SeriousFan09 says:

    Oh BS!

Canadiens traded for Giroux there’d be an unending amount of whining we traded for another midget centre, no matter how good he might be. You think Canadiens management would get off any easier than it would on the Cammalleri and Gionta signings or the Gomez acquisition, trading a starting goalie for that guy? People would gripe it should’ve been Carter the Canadiens traded for or nothing, or gone looking somewhere else for that big centre.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  8. diehardhab says:

“Inconsistent player.” See Pouliot, and Kostitsyn,Andrei

The torch be yours to hold it high!

  9. Mr.Hazard says:

I thought the exact same thing.

    “love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti”

  10. thepriceiswrong says:

He is an inconsistent player. He would land on the 3rd line or JM’s doghouse.

Dont give him so much credit. The pens are sitting him because he hasnt been putting the effort the way some of their 4th liners have.

  11. Aybara says:

So true. I prefer the French version, but it’s sweet he updated the song

  12. light_n_tasty says:

Bob Cole is not a Leafs fan.

  13. Danno says:

Spats, I love that old chant! Hope it comes back big time now.

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  14. jbroderi says:

who knows?  If the flyers want an overpriced, olg goalie who they have no room for under the cap, then good on them, but if they went after price, Old PG I hope will demand something good in return.  Price could have easily been our guy this year, but halak didn’t show any chinks in the armor.  price played well recently, and i still think he could fetch a good price, maybe not giroux, but someone.

I think we could get a big bacon classic combo with a frosty for Fischer!!  hahaha

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB

  15. jbroderi says:

bringin back memories of him sweeping the puck out of the net back in ’93.

It’s funny when you look at the goalies the habs beat that year

first two were ok, then two pretty big pylons if you ask me!!  Oh, the memories!!

Hopefully we can create some new ones tonight!!!!!!!!!!!

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB

  16. TripleX says:

No real hockey fan would EVER throw something on the ice.  It is dumb, juvenile and disrespects the game.

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  17. TripleX says:

Bob Cole is a Leafs fan to the core, but as the Cinderella Habs continue to surprise he has jumped on the bandwagon.  Bob is an old pro and he knows how to ride the wave, for him not to support the Habs now would be a disaster.

Don’t worry.  First Saturday night game with the Habs vs Leafs and his true colours will come out.  LOL

“Good judgement comes from experience, and experience comes from bad judgement.”

  18. The Juice says:

Love it! Just bought a pack of 3 😉

  19. Fansincebirth says:

Thanks bud, pulled it down and printed it off at work.

Some people wondered what was all over Cindy Crybaby’s face and I said something about Bettman….. :o)

“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden

  20. The Juice says:

Glen Healey has taken up the mantle from Neale. Last game he couldn’t stop chastising the Bell Centre faithful for booing the refs!

  21. Xtrahabsfan says:

Yo fansinecbirth …got yer Email.Just google CRYBABY FIRST AND THEN SIDNEY CROSBY. Have fun…GO HABS GO!

  22. darcy1 says:

That’s because it’s the Toronto Sports Network 🙂

  23. punkster says:

    Best of luck Chris.

  24. punkster says:

    Did somebody call me?

  25. Harani says:

Choosing Patrik Stefan would be considered an EPIC FAIL.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  26. SlovakHab says:

Not sure whether it’s been posted here yet coz I was away for a couple of days:

For those in a need of an extra pump-up before the game, ‘Canadiens de Montreal’ on Facebook has posted a trio of Habs songs: “Le But” des Loco Locass (and here’s another version of it), “GOLD’HALAK” des Porn Flakes and “Go Habs Go” by Christopher Pennington (round 1 highlights).

B.Burke is building the Bruins through the draft.

  27. joeybarrie says:

WHat is it with the EPIC FAIL… Do you guys who use this term even know what it means. When someone doesnt live up to the hype, all of a sudden the person who drafted him or the person who said he is gonna be good is labelled with an EPIC FAILURE.

Dude, wake up, its not an EPIC failure. Its barely even a failure. Scouting is not easy, there are very few EPIC FAILS out there.

Everything with this team is either the best thing ever, or the worst in history. We are so dramatic.

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  28. joe-hab-nuno says:

“our father, who are in bell center, hockey be thy name, thy will be done, the cup be won, on ice as well as in the stands… give us this day our hockey sticks and forgive us our penalties…. as we forgive those who cross-check against us. Lead us not into elimination and deliver us to victory.. In the name of the fans.. lord stanley. and the holy halak!!! AMEN!”

  29. joe-hab-nuno says:

“our father, who are in bell center, hockey be thy name, thy will be done, the cup be won, on ice as well as in the stands… give us this day our hockey sticks and forgive us our penalties…. as we forgive those who cross-check against us. 30. Exit716 says:
    The next great francophone player:

read it here first: Claude Giroux. I hate the Flyers, but this guy can
play … and I wish he were here.

What about David Fischer? Timmins and company obviously though Mr. Minnesota High School Hockey Player was better than Giroux.

Just another epic fail on the part of Arnprior’s top NHL scout.

  31. MikeL says:

I have to admit, I’m usually very against Bob Cole and his dementia/blindness. But, he still has the “voice”. Gord Miller can be as interesting and smart as he wants to be, but he lacks the voice. In the moments during a game or a series, when stats and analysis don’t matter, and all that matters is the emotion and action on the ice; Bob Cole is still the best.

  32. diehardhab says:

To illustrate how loaded with talent the pens are, ponikarovsky will likely be a healthy scratch tonight giving way for guerin to make his return. If we had ponikarovsky surely he would be on one of our top 2 lines. Either way if talent alone won playoff series we would be out a long time ago..

The torch be yours to hold it high!

  33. SPATS says:

OK Mr. Boone, I just reset my PVR to CBC instead of RDS. I’ll give Bob another chance. He’s had 4 games to get to know the players by their numbers. I hope I’m not disappointed. Out here just north of Victoria (west shawnigan lake to be precise) the games start at 4pm, Today is the first sunny bright day in a long while here. As I type this my wife is putting the finishing touches on our open house so I’ll miss the first period and hope to catch up by the 3rd. We’re selling asap and relocating to Riverview NB. BC (BringCash) has gotten too expensive for us. Ian Cobb (we’ve never met) has graciously offered to put us up for a night as we trek across. What a class act. But then again, he’s from St Lambert (where I went to elementary school with Stu Cowan – hang on while I pick up the name I shamelessly dropped) and he lived in Riverview for a while also. Ted Tevan was wrong, There’s something else in Belleville but the Bulls…Ian Cobb! Can’t wait for the next summit.

As previously posted, anybuddy attending monday’s game? Let’s bring back another ghost….

No disrespect to our troops!!!! it’s just a game, but a big one!

  34. kempie says:

Hahahaha! We all were punks in the 80s. Say hi to Johnny for me (Capitalist pig)

For my part, We’re in Calgary and we’re going to see the world premiere of Love Lies Bleeding today.

  35. SPATS says:

Nicely said. Corporatism is the rule of the day in all facets of daily life. First it was the mainstream news. Now if we’re not careful, it’ll be mainstream sports. How else to explain the Yankees success? Our habs are posterboys for the working class. (Now if only they’d play for $14/hr no benefits)

  36. habs-hampton says:

True, I guess he couldn’t find a way to defend them.

  37. HardHabits says:

Public Image LIMITED!!! Hey I was a punk in the 80’s. Why not? You think he sold out after he quit the Sex Pistols or something?

I could be wrong I could be right.

  38. HugeHabsFan says:

I agree with your comments about MacLean here – not sure why he won’t speak out about it, but his silence, in my opinion, is equal to condoning the officiating.

“Thank you Cammy for making my day even more amazing!”

  39. bigjames says:

just want to reiterate my pride in this team. they are inspiring and whatever happens i will always remember this year. GO HABS!

  40. kempie says:

Public Image? Say it’s not true.

  41. CharlieHodgeFan says:

I just read Boone’s good article on the “conspiracy” – you know, there is no need for a conspiracy. All you need is a poorly run league that favours profit too much and quality too little. You need a commissioner with the soul of a fast food menu planner, and a corporate climate that puts ethical considerations down where the Maple Leafs dwell. If you have those elements in place, there’s no need for even a discussion, let alone a conspiracy. Rot is guaranteed.

Anyone know a league run like that?

  42. jbroderi says:

don’t knock being tea-bagged till you try it!!!

hahaha, just kidding!  I think he was making more fun at the conspiracy theories than anything, but he couldn’t ignore the terrible, one-sided reffing.

There were several games this year that I was ready to blame the refs, but Boone very seldom did.  I sincerely hope ole PG called the NHL about that farce the other night, though.  Jeez!!!

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB

  43. habs-hampton says:

So Where is Ron McLean on the officiating in this series. He personally hung Alex Burrows out to dry in the Stephane Auger incident(s) earlier this year.

If he’s so interested in balanced reporting, let’s hear him say something about the officiating in this series. Or is he just going to shut up until a player says something about the zebras. CBC tried to drag a comment out of Gionta, but he wisely answered “No Comment”. Don Cherry blasted them and McLean just sat there with a stupid look on his face as if to say “Well, that’s your opinion”.

Bottom line, McLean feels his role is to protect the officials. Bettman must love him!

  44. Fansincebirth says:

I find it hilarious how TSN says the Pens will try to break the tie as they host tonights game.

Why not ‘The Habs will try to break the tie as they travel to Pittsburgh to play the Pens’….too funny

“Without the strength of the past, the team may face a choice – to win, or to be French-Canadian?” — Ken Dryden

  45. jbroderi says:

I always liked Cole, and I think he is doing an excellent job this series, even if a bit senile.  I think he was pro-leafs, but he never was really terrible against the habs.  I think ole harry neale was the worst by far for being pro toronto.

“I’ll take potent potables for 500, Alex” JB

  46. Norcal Habsfan says:

As in reference to the anti-Obama, radical right “tea-party” political movement in the States. I don’t know if fandom really has a radical left or radical right. Maybe just radical. Maybe the reference is too Boston. I know if we get another game ref’d like game 4 we revolt and throw something in the water, maybe beaver pelts, maybe Bettman himself, JK.

  47. 24 Cups says:

“The next great francophone player: Your read it here first: Claude Giroux.”

Hey, Mike, the word has been out for a while now on Giroux.  Philly selected this guy in the 2006 draft (22nd) just after we chose David Fischer (20th) from Apple Valley.  Four years later one guy is ready for stardom while the other player is on the clock.  This is the kid that some of us wanted to trade for earlier in the year (if Carter wasn’t available) for Price or Halak.  I guess it’s a mute point now.

  48. nova scotia vees says:

Wow!  I have been a Habs fan for longer than most of you have been alive.  With all my heart I want them to win.  But…what is with all the crap about Crosby?  A puck in the face??? Garbage!

Can’t believe that this is the same fan base that actually cheered Tretiak and gives him a standing-oh ever time he shows-up at the Bell.  Trust me…I NEVER cheered for him.   I don’t recall such vitriol about Ovechkin.   I guess you have to be from Russian to be loved.

NO CONSPIRACY??? Really?  How quickly folks forget Stephane Auger.   Refs not only follow directions…they also have their own little grudges going on.

Just remember what NBA Commish, David Stern said last week.  ” Players and Coaches better stop criticizing refs.  We’ve got a good BUSINESS  here and they make a good living.”  Where did Betteman come from you ask?  The NBA.

  49. Mike Boone says:

    “doesn’t mean the referees aren’t” Tea-baggers? Really?? That’s a stretch

  50. danp says:

    Here’s a good idea for game 6:

I say we throw a few pacifiers on the ice whenever crosby
complains and let the announcers explain that one.

  51. HardHabits says:

Going to see PiL tonight. Just to let you know that I am not the only one reliving ’86 all over again.

I will however be keeping tabs on the game but wont be posting any of my insightful comments until well after the game is over. You guys/gals will have to hold the fort without me tonight. 😉

  52. Harani says:

Sorry I got tangled in my thoughts. 4wins iyt if 6 so 4-2.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  53. Lafrich says:

Habs are actually 4-2 on the road.

  54. showey47 says:

Don’t know if anyone has seen or posted this yet,but i found it funny.

  55. HabsFanInVictoria says:

Sad… i’m coaching my own team during the provincials tonight and i’ll have to miss the game.  I’ll stream it on my iphone and sneak peaks every once in a while.

    Hopefully the reffing is better!

  56. HUDSONHAB says:

I’m thinking the Habs score a couple early and when the Pens get desperate and start taking chances the Habs score a few more.

    Go get em boys!

  57. Harani says:

TOTALLY off-topic but Hal Gill has a REALLY cute kid!

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  58. PrimeTime says:

All the pressure is right where MTL wants it to be…..right in the heads of the PENS. Tonight we’ll see how PIT responds. Game 3 was crucial….PIT won. Tonight is more crucial….we’ll see. PIT is 9-2 after after a loss the past 2 playoff seasons. The only 2 straight loses were last year and in both cases they came back to win the series. But is this the same team as last year? Hey, we have Gill!! Can the loose HABS pull another upset on the tight PENS??? Advantage to the winner. Game on!

  59. Harani says:

Also Francois Gagnon reports that Bill Guerin is in for the Pens tonite. Ruslan Fedotenko and Alexei Ponikarovsky will be the healthy scratches.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  60. Harani says:

I’m feeling pretty good about tonight. Especially because the Pens have a 2-5 records at Mellon Arena and the Habs are 4-6 on the road. We have no trouble playing in their building and if we can get an early lead, watch out for the Habs.

    “I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”

  61. Norcal Habsfan says:

Nice Gazette: Conspiracy article Boone. Thanks for giving the Habs Nation’s equivalent of tea baggers a voice. You’ve got some brass ones that’s for sure. Or at the very least you have stickittotheman-iosis (Jack Black)

    What was the double negative?
