Noise/Bruit: Habs could end Canadian Cup drought

Bruce Dowbiggin on Canwest News Service says that if any team is to end Canada’s Stanley Cup drought, the Canadiens are the team to do it. He credits Bob Gainey’s building through the draft and the young talent he has assemble for making the Canadiens the most consistent team in the East.

The Gazette’s Pat Hickey writes that Father’s Day came early for five fathers of Canadiens players as the team allowed each player to invite a guest on the current road trip. Among them were Bob Higgins and David O’Byrne, as well as the fathers of Maxim Lapierre, Mike Komisarek and Bryan Smolinski.

A poll of NHL players by Sports Illustrated has determined that the Canadiens have the best fans in the league – in a landslide. More than a third of players, 35 per cent, said Montreal has the best fans in the league. The closest rival is the Minnesota Wild at only 13 per cent. The Toronto Maple Leafs garnered only five per cent of the vote.
