Now the NHL lockout is really getting serious … Canadians aren’t drinking beer!
Molson Coors announced on Wednesday that the two-month NHL labour dispute is hurting sales.
“Whether it’s people not actually physically going to the venues and consuming there, consuming in venues around the outlet before that, or indeed having NHL sort of parties at home, all of those occasions have disappeared off the map and you just can’t replicate them,” CEO Peter Swinburn told The Canadian Press.
CP added that the lockout has particularly hurt sales of Coors Light and Molson Canadian.
“It’s a national sport, the whole of Canada is glued to it one way or another so there’s no real regional difference at the moment that we can detect,” said Swinburn, who added that once the lockout ends, Molson Coors will seek financial compensation from the league over the negative impact that a lack of games has had on the league sponsor.

Meanwhile, the Nov. 12 edition of The Hockey News focuses on “How We Would Change the Game” by 10 hockey “visionaries”. One of the visionaries is Sidney Crosby, who writes that he would like to see the NHL go to 3-on-3 in overtime, while Jarome Iginla says he would like to see the nets made bigger.

In a completely unrelated survey:
Canadians consumption of GOOD BEER has increased during the lockout.
Molson, pshhhh. I do enjoy the fact that Ricards is trying to disguise their swill like it is similar to those delicious Craft beers! Cardigan! pshhhh. Ricards blond with cinammon. Might as well add a teaspoon of nutmeg to my urine and call it awesome!
I haven’t had a Molson product since I last tasted one again a few years ago – life is too short for C Grade beer.
Most of us can’t afford to take the family to a game, or to blow money on the over-priced jerseys, etc, but we can afford to drink decent beer . Coors Lite? The stuff comes pre-pissed.
I mean, we can always SAY it’s a statement to ownership that we don’t drink the stuff. It would make us look righteous as we slowly sink into the floor.
Did someone say the Habs are going to trade Subban and Tinordi for Huberdeau.
…I suggest the Buttfehrs go into a room with 5 or 6 cases of their favorite brew, and not start negotiating until each are skunked
…amazing the things You can agree to when skunked

They could make it a “bladder buster”. First guy to get up to wee-wee has to give up a bargaining point. Given the age of these guys and their (likely) compromised prostates, this thing could be done by breakfast.

Does Bettman even drink? I think he would puke after the first swallow. Now Fehr looks like he grew up drinking Union Bosses under thetable. In that scenario…. Fehr wins.
Just finished watching the Quebec juniors beat the Russians convincingly 5-2. MacKinnon and Huberdeau were great, but so was Charles Hudon. He was excellent defensively, performing a shut-down job on Nail Yakupov that reminded me of the way the Habs shut down Ovechkin and Malkin in the playoffs two years ago; and offensively he was a sparkplug, a bit like Brendan Gallagher, always making things happen, always heading for the net. A steal for a fifth-rounder.
Mercifully the game is over folks. Dogs didn’t show much tonight. Nobody played well. Very little emotion.
Empty netter by Syracuse with over a minute to go. 3-0 Crunch.
WOW I just thought of the possible team for the WJC,
forwards: Huberdau, Mackinnon, Drouin, Hudon, Monahan, Boone Jenner, Matt Puempel, Ryan Strome, Connor Mcdavid, Curtis Lazar, Hunter Shinkaruk, JS Dea
Goalies: Malcolm Subban, Fucale, Brossoit
Dmen: Matt Finn, morgan rielly, ryan murray, matt dumba, griffin reinhart, ryan murphy, xavier ouellet, duncan siemens.
to name a few. That’s a sick line up. Team canada is gonna have a tough time making cuts lol
Don’t forget Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mark Scheifele, Scott Harrington and Dougie Hamilton.
Sick!!
I have to stop thinking about it, its too sick!
Grigorenko looked real good in the 1st game but tonight he is having one of those games the Scouts were talking about before the draft – he was invisible all night…
MacKinnon and Huberdeau looked awesome tonight…Drouin looks really talented as well but 5’11 is a pipe dream, more like 5’9 and we have too many of those already IMO….
He certainly isn’t the first player to have his height padded by his junior team.
Still think he looks like a top 10 pick, even if 5’9. If 5’11 could be top 5

…the ‘Dogs Crunch game a bore in comparison
Changed from Molson to Steamwhistle in the last year……
I love steamwhistle beer. It became my favorite when I tried it at the Elephant and Castle when I used to live in Ottawa.
GALCHENYUK FOR 9 GAMES WITH THE BIG CLUB THIS YEAR!!
i am beyond thrilled i found out a couple of hours ago that i am finally going to be a grandma!! So excited now if hockey would start this would be the best week ever
Congrats Amigo! That’s great news!
Congrats! Can you send my kids a hint. I wanna be a granpa before I am too old to enjoy grandkids. Proabably am already.
Way to go! Enjoy!
And Drouin makes it 5-2! Nice Line!
Nash playing much better in the 3rd, just drew a penalty. Dogs on the PP again.
Are any of these games on the tube or interwebs?
Don’t know about you guys but I’m liking Drouin more and more every time I see him. Kids a top prospect for sure
Oh, it’s not just you. Tonight’s my first long look at him, what skill and puck possession abilities.
but SO SMALL……………………….
5’11″ 176 is SO SMALL?
Same size almost exactly as Claude Giroux, do we wanna make that mistake again Maybe it is his projected draft day height, but he still breathes skill and ability that will make him a top pick in this years draft,, usually Boston steals this type of player out of our back door on draft day,
Lets wait till the NHL draft combine before we call this kid 5’11″ seems inflated.
Go Habs Go!

It might be. However MacKinnon gets listed at the same size. So is he too small or does Halifax only fudge Drouin’s size?
Look at them beside each other. MacKinnon is 2-3 inches taller than Drouin.

Drouin, Matheson, Culkin, Fournier, Duclair, Etchegary, Deluca etc,,, Lac St Louis Midgett AAA program rocks ,,I scouted Drouin and Etchegary and Duclair and watched them dominate midget AAA for the Lions,, Drouin is a stud..I do like Habs 2012 draft but really wish we could have snagged Matheson, and he is having a great freshman start to his season with Boston College number one ranked team in NCAA
I was hoping Matheson would slip to the 2nd round but alas no
. I’m still excited about Collberg, and I’m anxious to see how Thrower pans out.
Syracuse up 2-0 at the end of the 2nd. They had the clear edge in play in the period. Dogs came on at the end on the PP, which still has 50 seconds left to begin the 3rd. Boyce and Berger not doing much. I would like to see Nattinen and Quailer get more ice time, they’ve looked animated in limited minutes. Brendon Nash seems to have been benched after a couple of giveaways. Morgan Ellis is steady and composed, getting a lot of ice time.
Hudon always looks great in these international games. What a steal.
Go Habs Go!

…and, I can’t resist the temptation to say this, but wouldn’t Jonathan Huberdeau look ‘perfect’ in a Habs’ sweater ?
I think everyone here agrees with you, the kid is AWESOME, but it would literally take the world to pry him from the panthers………….
…another argument for contraction
He’s pretty good at interceptions and keeping the cycle alive. It’s too bad he wasn’t used on the PP at all (at least, I didn’t see him on there).
LeBrun tweets that meetings over for today. More scheduled for tomorrow.
Dogs losing 2-0 end of 2nd
People not drinking Coors or Molson Canadian?Hey Suit! Did you ever think that maybe us poor schmucks got more dough by not spending $100 + on hockey tickets that we can afford Real Suds like Guinness and Heinekin?!!!
Hi everyone,
I just ran into Patrick Sharp, who is visiting his home in Thunder Bay, and we chatted for a few moments. He said the feeling among the players is that the strike will be over by American Thanksgiving.
Just thought I would pass that along as to what the players are hearing.

Gomez to the ECHL, let’s take a poll, who here thinks he will remain there??
and what’s this I hear about an amnesty buyout?
I pray this is true
7 mins into 2nd period Crunch led 1-0. PP goal. Dogs being out shot 15-8 so far
Hudon really does have some nice puck skills, always seems to know what play he wants to make.
Good to see a young player with nice puck ‘n skills…
No wait!

Great compliment from the commentators “I love Hudon, This kid is all over the place, he never stops, always pressing… his stick is everywhere. He’s hitting everyone, he may be smaller than most guys but you can’t measure his heart, he’s non stop”
WOW that’s great to hear, the kid is really making a case for himself…..
have vodka, gin and whiskey gone up?
*edit*
also the Gomez article refers to him as a star forward…um ok.. sure why not.
along with superstar pyatt then i guess

The 2010-11 Stanley Cup was not won, but given
Beer consumption?? Really, that is an issue? The richest of the rich losing a pittance? What about all the people who depend on the NHL for employment? Let’s concentrate on poor Molson? That’s a story?
How about asking Mayor Tremblay and Mayor Vaillancourt and who ever the mayor of Mascouche is, if they were affected. Not having hockey to distract us from the reality that has been all around us for the last 20 years has definitely had an adverse affect on them too. Time for the lock out to end, time for the sheep to go back into the pen. No more independant thought please. Maybe if the lockout continues we will see the inquiries continue and actually see some people serve time in prison for their crimes. Or the lock out ends and Baaaa Baaaaa Baaaa
On the other hand…the 43% of Molson Coors workforce that is unionized (over 2300 regular folk) plus however many more who slave away in their office and sales jobs…those folk being part of the “richest of the rich”…they don’t depend on the NHL for employment in any way?
I get your point though we have to remember that Molson Coors, like any other business, employees real people whose real jobs can also be affected by the slightest downturn in the economy.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
huberdeau + Mackinnon 2 on 0 breakaway= Guaranteed goal lol
Amnesty buyout…can that mean?Maybe?Be still my racing heart.
SpectorsHockey – To summarize: amnesty buyout and revenue sharing on the table in #NHLCBA talks tonight; “make whole” concept has yet to be discussed.
With the pathetic play of the Habs last year, I used to drink a ton to try and ease the pain of watching Gomez float around the ice. My drinking is definitely down this year. I hope that Molson goes after the NHL big time to compensate for lost sales. Anything to hurt the NHL is good in my books right about now.
No score at end of 1st. Crunch/Bulldogs
…Hudon in wrestling fight with Yakupov ?
…I missed it …how did Hudon handle the physicality ?
…not that Yak is any kind of heavyweight, but interesting to know
yak tripped him up n hudon ended up on the bottom.
Hudon’s having a good night, his line is the best out there so far IMO.
…thanks Boomer
So that’s it?
They had to wait until the beer industry started to suffer before sitting down for some serious negotiations!
I think I need a drink.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: This Huberdeau-Danault-Hudon line came to play tonite. Fans in FLA, CHI and MTL with much to look forward to…one day.
LouisJean_TVA – Source tells me “Make whole” provision has yet to be discussed. Will be covered tonight. Revenue sharing being debated now. Major issue.
I haven’t cut back beer consumption, I just haven’t bought any Molson products.
Molson were experiencing a drop in sales last season, actually did some lay offs so not sure how they can blame the lock out. Micro breweries are really starting to gain market shares.
The real issue is not the lock-out and people not drinking as much,
it’s just that Molson’s beer is friggin’ terrible. How people can drink Coors Light is beyond me.

Don’t like this one, damn SOB’s;
Larry Brooks @NYP_Brooksie – Appears as if initial reads off yesterdays meeting-mine included-were off. Little, if anything, achieved. PA holding firm on contract issues
@TSNBobMcKenzie: In Val d’Or for RUS vs QMJHL, new and interesting line combos for QMJHL. Top line is Huberdeau (FLA)-Danault (CHI)-Hudon (MTL).
#Habs prospect Tim Bozon has been suspended 1 game by the WHL for a spitting incident at the end of Tuesday’s 2-1 loss to Edmonton.
When the Bruins do it, it’s a hockey play?
I’m going to blame this one on the European factor
And still their fans don’t know the difference
LouisJean_TVA – Latest on CHLPA: Sherbrooke Phoenix players have written a letter asking union leaders to de-certify. Every player has signed it.
This is too easy. No comment.

Record alcohol content for a beer, 42%; Brooklyn Brewery Co. has a dark ale at 35%. Must say any chance to try a Trappiste Beer (Belgian monks’ centuries old methods) is highly satisfying.
“May you live in interesting times.”
I have not found a high alcohol beer that doesn’t give me a major headache and not the morning after…within an hour or so.
Beer with my digression to trivia. Ethanol is of course the same in all alcoholic drinks. Unfortunately, yeast and bacterial fermentation yields many by-products, some potentially toxic (ethyl carbamate, methanol, others). Some are headache causers, sulphites, acetaldehyde. Dilution is the only solution (drinking lots of H2O).
“May you live in interesting times.”
Top Beers imho:
Unibroue’s Maudite and Blanche de Chambly, Molson Brador, Muskoka Cream Ale, Bud Light Lime. Used to love Stroh’s Fire Brewed Lager.
“May you live in interesting times.”
If I were to plot the quality of these ‘beers’ on graph, from left to right, it would look like an inverted yield curve. Bud light lime??
>Used to love Stroh’s Fire Brewed Lager.
Used to?! What happened between you two?
BL Lime and Cools Light Iced Tea (CLIT) are pretty refreshing on occasion.
First to say my beer consumption hasn’t diminished.
