Andrei Markov skated with athletic therapist Graham Rynbend after his teammates left the ice in Brossard.
Randy Cunneyworth said his defenceman is progressing “more quickly” and a return to action is foreseeable “on the horizon.”
Travis Moen is making progress as well.
In the room, the players talked about the Buffalo win and Hal Gill.

@vanejorg: my feeling is we’re trading for another D soon….if not, we’re gonna ride what we got into the dance if we make it.
there’s no if, its WHEN we make it

Perhaps someone who is an actual NHL defenceman instead of a “defenceboy”. Here’s hoping you’re right, but not like last year where it was just for a temporary fix. A solid long term fix this time. Shea Weber, or “ride” as you say. What….no comment from those that believe we should lose on purpose for a high draft pick tonight….. or get rid of some of our solid players at the deadline for draft picks. I say pick your nose, or pick your ass to those people….you will get more from that. The only trades that should be made…..and at the deadline only, are to strengthen the team for right now. NO F**KING DRAFT PICKS!!!
Lets do this, We win tmrw we are 4 points back I BELIEVE. is no one else excited we still have a chance ” so your telling me there’s a chance” llyod christmas

It’s more than that. Montreal has to make it, and they will. They are the only team that has(or will have with the return of Markov) all the tools to beat teams like NY, Boston, Detroit, etc. Jets, Islanders, Lightning, Laffs, and Capitals will all be out in the first round. None of them have a Carey Price type. If Gauthier(who should be fired right after they have won the Stanley Cup this year) can swindle Nashville for Shea Weber, and also swindle someone for a Rick Nash type(6’4″ 230 lbs.), they will have a better defence, and offence, than any of those teams. Hell, with the return of Markov alone they might be better than any of those teams(at least on defence). When they win tomorrow night it should give us a better picture. Let’s face it, all of the other teams, and their foolish fans(see Laffs)are thinking that their teams are going to be in the playoffs too. Except, they don’t have the ace in the hole…CAREY PRICE(if he decides to play….see Laffs again in their game on Saturday night…both goaltenders used to no avail).
Hockeysfuture profile on Timo:
Not projected to be a grinder, but soft hands may help his rising prospects. Can handle himself deep in corners.. His large size may be a factor. Considered to be a future HIO columnist.
Those Sutter brothers sure love grimacing lol. One’s got Penner, the other’s got Camelleri!
Reports are in that Timo skated the other day.
Analysts say he’s about million miles away from being ready to suit up for the big team.
Keep them updates coming. everyone is very concerned.
In case no one saw it, Philly got Kubina from TB for a minor-leaguer named Jon Kalinski, a 2nd, and 4th round draft picks.
Have to assume PG was in talks with them as well about Gill and decided on Nashville either because they made a better offer or because they wanted to trade him out of conference.
- Honestly yours
Awww, Markov skated. How exciting. I skated last Monday… how come there is no article about that?
There was, but it was on NonHabs I/O
- Honestly yours
This just dawned on me. I wonder if the generosity shown by Nashville in the Gill trade was partially informed by the remaining “future considerations” negotiated in the Sergei deal.
Did anyone watch the Quebec – Saint John Q league game last night? Based on what I saw, I hope we don’t end up drafting Grigerenko.
Tough to say. I watched a Knights-Sting game earlier this year and saw Yakupov play live. He didn’t do anything impressive, but he’s still hands-down the consensus #1 pick by everybody (scouts, talking heads, etc.) and is said to have elite talent.
Maybe it was just an off-game.
- Honestly yours
I don’t care who we draft as long as he is a tough as nail SOB who can score, hit, fight and be nasty when required.
… you probably want a pet unicorn, too!
We need a Cam Neely type.
Richard R
two pretty even teams – Best “D” wins tomorrow
is the game in NJ?
Montreal I believe.
- Honestly yours
Argh… nothing like having effing Brodeur trying to get another shut out at the Bell. I hate that guy.
We all do, Timo. We all do.
- Honestly yours
With respect to Markov, I have no doubt in my mind that he would make an immediate impact because he greatness comes from how he thinks the game, not from speed, power, or strength. They may have to limit his minutes as he works on his fitness, but I really think he will be a difference maker right away.
The devils have been hot lately. The Habs will really have to dig deep tomorrow. It will be like a playoff game, can’t wait!!
I don;t remember it was so long ago. Is Gionta’s season over?
Approximately yes. I think depending on how quick he heals he might be available to play close to the end of the season. Of course, if we’re mathematically eliminated from the playoffs before season’s end, then there’s really no point in bringing him back for a few meaningless games. Better to let the kids get some ice time and experience.
- Honestly yours
Who?
We really couldn’t ask for a better off night–those of us who wouldn’t mind seeing the Habs move up the standings and take a run at the postseason, that is. No bloody 3-point games! And the Caps and Leafs–teams with a significant lead on us–both lost.
I agree with Commander HH and his tank crew that a year-on-year effort by the Canadiens organization “just” to make the playoffs is a recipe for continued mediocrity. However: What we’re seeing from our team, lately, is hardly mediocrity; they’re solid! Playing as they are, they could plausibly continue to take 10 or 11 points from each 7 game bracket–and that would likely mean they’d squeak into the Show. As the first or second seed, I’d hate to draw the team that gelled in February, and is charging forward with nothing to lose.
—
If Eller were pronounced “Ell-ay”, Larry would be #2 with a bullet!
NOT A SIGNIFICANT LEAD! With a win tomorrow, the team will be within four points. If this should happen, even the “quarter-brains” will then have to agree that the team will make the playoffs. Especially with Andrei Markov coming back. That is like making a trade for a top puck moving defenceman, without losing anything or making a trade at all. I sure hope they didn’t end up trading Hal Gill too early. Why did they not wait until the 27th, to see where they were in the standings? Were they afraid Nashville wasn’t going to give them the same deal? I think not, the deal may have been even better. GM must be fired. Where is the BIG BODY to block all of those shots on the penalty kill, and other situations going to come from, when Les Canadiens make the playoffs. CANADIENS must win the Stanley Cup now. They aren’t some lame-ass team, like the other 29, who would be ecstatic just to get a play-off position.(See the LAFFS…that is Laughed At For Forty Seasons…works when you insert Fifty in for Forty also) They are the MASTERS OF THE HOCKEY UNIVERSE! Suck the big one….TANKERS…and draft pick groupies.
If Palushaj has been called up, that seems strange given the fact he was just sent down.
Indication of another move in play?
Just asked the same on the new thread. Maybe someone is hurt or there is a trade coming
I would have called up Blake because he would be pumped. CC could take advantage of a young player who would be playing on pure adrenaline .
Well boys they set the table for you tonight. Now it time to say enough of the NJ curse and beat this team. Here is a little something for the bulletin board in the dressing room. Hockey central said only the NewYork Islanders and the Lightening can catch the Leafs.
Then what do you expect from the brown noseing Leaf lovers. Also since PG trading Gill your team has thrown in the towel lol. What we need is a Montreal bias TV show to counter all these Leaf loving shows. They can call it ” people who really know hockey”.
Isnt that what the anti chambre is about.
The way the Leafs are playing, they might pass 4 or 5 teams as they race to the cellar!
Islanders, Lightning and Canadiens all have the same amount of points. This is just them being STUPID!! LAFFS……LAUGHED AT FOR FORTY SEASONS…you can insert FIFTY in for FORTY when they get there in a few years. They know their teams situation is not good. This is done to get Canadiens fans “hot under the collar”, by purposely leaving them out. If the team keeps focused, and Andrei Markov returns, they should get in now. A win tomorrow night will heighten their chances more so. The way Les Canadiens are playing now, they should be able to beat anyone(see recent results against Detroit “Dead Things”…top team in the league my ass). It’s all up to the players now….do they want it enough? Stay tuned.
So, Palushaj is called back from Hamilton. Here’s the lineup for tomorrow (I guess):
Cole – DD – MP
AK – Eller – LL
Darche – Pleks – Bourque
White – Gomez – Palushaj
Gorges – Subban
Diaz – Emelin
Weber – Campoli
Price
Budaj
where’s Kaberle, I don’t think they would sit him the game after he scored a goal?
Could there be a tanking pandemic happening?
Nobody seems to want that last playoff spot….it looks more like there are 9 teams battling for a top 5 pick than an eighth place finish?
No matter what 8th place is still available, of our 23 remaining games, theres only 4-5 challenging ones left. NY, Dallas, Minnesota, Vancouver, and Philadelphia. Otherwise 3 against Ottawa, a pair against the Laffs, Sabres, Capitals, TBay, and Miami. Other then the western Canada road swing, this is a doable scehdule to get 8th. Forget tanking, thats crap.
Minnesota?
I know but we lost to Washington twice, and Minnesota has a similar record to the Caps. Plus its the West, Habs always seem to struggle even against cellar dwellers of that conference.
Well then throw the Flames in there too.
Cam Ward is injured for the Canes pulled after 2 periods could be out for a bit.
random thought: if AK is traded, that’ll be the end of the Belarussian experiment
Yessss
Until Montreal drafts Alex Galchenyuk.
Is anyone following the Nash situation to opine on the chance of him ending up in St. Louis?
He played for hitch. The Blues could use the scoring and have goaltending depth and young roster players… Say, stewart or shattenkirk, and, they just called up bishop.
Just saying…
But St. Louis is far from a Cap team, can their budget afford him?
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
Yes and no.
Nash costs very little for the balance of the season. If they have a good playoff run Nash becomes as seattle politicians say about their new rink, “self funding”.
More to the point, a little run and some cache might be enough to attract the new investors they have been reportedly seeking for a couplenof years.
I think he should go to Nashville. Weber + Nash.
Nash for Suter and a prospect (Anders Lindback?)
Scoreboard was good for all Habs fans tonight. Dropped to 13th because Isles and TB tied us with a game in hand, and are still within 6 points of a playoff spot with a chance to get within 4 with a win tomorrow night. If there’s any Karma in this world, NJ owes us 1 because of the BS non call on the winning goal when Cole was obviously hooked. Let’s hope Martin F Brodeur doesn’t pull off any Centre Bell magic ( for those of us who still have playoff hopes of course).
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”

one key to make a win tomorrow i believe is to keep protesting to those idiot zebras that will be running around and officiating the game.
RC is going to be KEEN with the refs in this one.
…
Weird, early in the season I thought Leafs had a good chance to make the dance, but now we’re seeing that they’re a bubble team and it shows against contenders. And Im loving Cherry RIIIPPP into the Laffs D right now lol!!!
You were fooled by the 9-3-1 start by the Laffs as much as all the Leafs fans I think.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
They played their starters hard in the preseason, which is why they had a good start. They were in shape before everyone else. We didn’t, we had a shitty start.
Now however the Leafs are worn out. They usually get the easiest schedule in the league but their young players won’t be able to keep the momentum up all season.
The LAFFS have been out of this years playoff race since the puck was dropped in their first preseason game. It just took a little while for everyone to realize what I already knew back on September 19th.
Just as what I figured, the Habs are now in 13th place after wins by NYI and TBL. They’re going to have to beat the Devils if they need to get moving.
The Caps and the Laffs lost so they may sit at 8th and 9th consecutively.
Geoffrion had a goal and an assist with 8 shots tonight…
this is the reason why I’ve been telling everyone that instead of putting ‘Boomer’ down to Hamilton, fast track him now to Montreal.
His case is like Leblanc. If he keeps scoring more goals, adding assits and points there, does he still need development in the AHL? Maybe…..
Remember this guy was in the Nashville line up for a time. When Les Canadiens make the playoffs they can call him up, to throw something new at those Eastern conference teams. If someone should get injured, I believe he will be a formidable replacement. I would rather have had the gigantic, shot-blocking Hal Gill for the playoffs though. Management might be regretting “pulling the trigger” on that deal too soon, by the end of next week. However you might just get your wish, and see him play in Montreal this year
Great news, I hope the kid does well in the future for this organization. I would hope that when he gets a chance with the big club, he’ll be a standout his first few games based on adrenalin alone because of his lineage.. The fans have to be careful not to put too much pressure on the kid because of it though.

Wonder how happy Burke is now after giving Wilson extension at Christmas time. LMFAO
Wilson is so unlikeable, poor guy. All that’s missing is him crying in his snuff box.
I love him as Leaf coach because he is such a tool. All my leaf buddies hate Wilson, then I remind them their leader Burke just extended him, lol.
And some want PG to be more like Burke.
Do you point out to your Leaf buddies how well Tyler Seguin is coming along? hehe
perfect night, caps and leafs lose, we win tommorow and were 4 pts out
Just for fun-zies, since there is no game tonight.
Cole, Diaz and 1st for Nash ?
Personally, I wouldn’t and I think Cole should from now on wear a letter on his jersey. A buddy mentioned it and I started pondering.
Habs, OLE !
Never! And they gave Cole the ‘A’ when Gill got traded.
Not a chance. Let some other team screw themselves to get this guy.
where have you been, he started wearing one last night after the Gill trade
Why I believe our team will make the playoffs if they continue playing well.
It has nothing to do with points, stats or projections, but rather our competition.
If we were battling teams like the Bruins, Pens or Flyers, I’d be less optimistic. All the teams from 8th down are all struggling and they all need to win as many games as we do to make it.
Toronto – blows
Washington – rock stars with no substance unless Ovie wakes up
Winnipeg – not as good as our team
Tampa – Guy has run out of miracles
Islanders – well, they’re the Islanders (but maybe they’re due?)
Carolina – every season they play catch-up, but never do
Buffalo – Lucic took care of them
Even Ottawa is not safe
We play mostly these teams the rest of the season. Every game will decide who’s in or who’s out. In any case, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.
I don’t know that is a lot of logic, but can tanks blow up logic?
haha, tanks can blow up a lot of sh1t, but at the same time, those sitting in the tank are more vulnerable than invincible.
)
(Maybe I’ve watched too many war movies.
Add Florida to that list in case Washington gets hot, only 2 points separating them.

Brian Burke lol Ron Wilson lol Dion Phaneuf, Kessel, Lupul, Monster LOLOLOLOL
Even Don Cherry’s bailed on ‘em calling ‘em “not tough” on Coach’s Corner and even called Lapierre “tough and can drop the gloves”. Guess he’s high…
And then Friedman at 2nd intermission says the Leafs won’t release anyone for interview cuz they’re losing

Does anyone have a link to the Dogs games, if it’s not over already ? thanks.
It just ended, they won, great ending to the game. Two franchise records set in the with 5 minutes left in 3rd period, 3 goals in 28 seconds.
Cool waw musta been fun to watch and herd bg scored.
But is there a link where I could watch all there games?
Thanks
Who Nucks or Dogs?
Dogs
They just scored again as I was typing that last comment!
Wow they scored another one, 3 goals in less then 1 minutes.
Blake Geoffrion just scored a goal in his first game with the Dog’s!
HUGE !
Habs, OLE !
Now that’s good!
I think that Weber is a kid that needs more playing time and SHOULD NOT be traded. Can/should be our 5/6th D Followed him ever since we drafted him and he is offensive D and can shoot the puck and HE CAN SCORE goals in the NHL! His defensive needs work but you can learn that you can learn how to be an offensive D Kaberle,Campoli HAVE to go!
I am sure he is right up there in the Habs stats this year for most goals or points per minute played. I don’t have a problem with him like most on here do.
“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
Carey Price
Seems like he’s lost a lot of confidence this year ?
I remember that goal he scored as a winger against the Broons last year in the playoffs and I thought to myself……..this kid’s gonna be alright as he develops.
This year every time I watch him, I think he looks lost out there and doesn’t belong in the NHL.
Habs, OLE !
I think the scoreboard should have everyone on here happy. Leafs losing 5-1 after 2 to the Nucks, I hope nobody on here wants the Leafs to win no matter what the situation. Tampa beating Caps 2-1 in the 3rd, which is good for everyone who still has hopes of the Habs making the playoffs and those who hope they drop to a top 5 draft pick. The Isles beating Car 4-3 too. I think the high draft pick crew probably wants a 3 point game ther which is still possible. I’m in the ‘playoffs are reachable crew’, so the teams that are close to us winning doesn’t bother me, for the Habs to make the playoffs they have to play a lot better than those teams to make up the 6, 5, and 4 points of the teams they have to pass.

What do the Habs need to do to address their awful shootout record?
Would anybody consider bringing back Alex Kovalev?
Career 50% in the shootout, PP specialist, has size.
no
“Merci beaucoup.” Randy Cunnyworth
Get wins. Period.
What else do they have to do?
Whether its from regulation to overtime to shootouts, it doesn’t matter. They need to win games and that’s all that matters.
Get wins.
Won 2 of their last 3 shootouts. Before that, the last shootout was months ago. Perhaps it’s been addressed.

Brassard’s goal from today
http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?hlg=20112012,2,866&navid=sb:highlights
A downgrade from Eller. Why would anyone want Brassard?
What about Vermette? Would he be a good pick up?
Looks like the Bolts and the Isles are going to get wins tonight. That could potentially put us down the standings by 12th or 13th spot. The good side to this story is that Toronto and Washington are having a tough time right now and that’s needed if the Habs are going to push forward tomorrow night.
Its going to be a hail mary game against the Devils…..
So Friedman just said Philly is over contract number limit, they have 51 max is 50. So will they have to waive someone?
I am pretty sure you’re right, they have to drop someone. Same way we got Metro a few years back
Loved Metro, wish he was still on the team.
Maybe they’ll try Betts again.

Watching Italian job with Charlize Theoron, checking score on commercials.
What is “The Markov Effect” on The Habs if he comes back at a similar level to what we last saw?
If he can contribute offensively as much as he has shown in his last full seasons we can expect a 60 point D-man that plays over 20 minutes and QB’s one of the leagues top PP’s.
For the people that want the team to fail, Markov returning could be the worst possible news. He could even launch the team into the playoffs if he makes an extremely quick return to top form that most star players have. (Forsberg, Crosby, Malkin, Mario, Shea Weber, Saku Koivu, Pavel Bure)
I think his potential impact is huge.
Markov Emelin
PK Georges
Kaberle/Diaz/Campoli/Weber (hopefully these 4 can be turned into 3 more physical D-men in the future)
So PG is very interested in brassard from The jackets. Is this kid a number 1 centre or a potential number 1? Thoughts?
Source?
I really am not excited about anyone from Columbus, they are losers for a reason…
Career -40, -20 just this year. Even on a bad team that is BAD. I wouldn’t trade much for a guy like that. First glance though.
Of course, Nash is a -24. I’d rather see the Habs get Johansen
Eller is bigger, younger, and produces the same amount of points with comparable upside. Why would we want Brassard?
Geoffrion assists on the Bulldogs’ first goal tonight — has 5 shots in two periods to lead the team.
Go Habs Go!
Stats night/game for Vancouver tonight great for hockey poolers who have a bunch Canucks on their team(s)……
Safe to say Toronto is going to lose and if Tamps holds on to be beat Washington, a win tomorrow nite and we are 4 pts back….
Going to get interesting.
Toronto is a nightmare in their own zone
I say this because the only way anyone should UN-retire a # is for an exception like this. Also, it should only be with the permission of the family. The day he gets traded/retires the # goes back to the rafters!
PS- I’m just bored on a Sat night without my Habs
Eric Engels on twitter wondering who is Montreal interested in getting from Columbus; https://twitter.com/#!/EricEngels
His association with “eklund the talking dog” diminishes his credibility for me, but there is a fair amount of chatter amongst the press.
Did Don Cherry just call Lapierre and the Nucks tough? might be the stupidest thing he has ever said…but…his point is well taken and true..you need toughness to win – this is a physical game…Red Wings are the exception – not the rule…if Habs had 2 tough wingers and one tough D man all season – we’d have 10 more points.
He also refused to show a clip of a player scoring — can’t remember the name — because it would show up one of his “buddies” so he had the crew show the guy’s second goal. Yet one more example of his playing favourites and not exactly telling it like it is …
How much of a difference would ONE shootout specialist have made?
Is that specialist allowed to help the power play as well?
Hmmm, Makes you wonder if Markov will be the one player that can make the biggest difference to this team.. Great on PP and wasn’t too bad in shootouts if I remember correctly.
Amen
Do you think Eller be a player that can be used in every shootout?
I haven’t seen enough, but he looks promising.
Eventually , we missed Gionta, maxpac is improving but most of all team needs confidence. I don’t believe talent skill is the issue.
Erik Christensen could have been that guy, I guess he still could. Sick hands, laser shot. No idea what to do in his own end. If PG called Minn they would likely just give him away. Don’t even play him; put him on the sheet and just leave him in the room stickhandling a tennis ball or something
Tuomo Ruutu is a great career shootout player.. could replace AK with him..
you mean a goalie right? its more about player selection…
Went to NHL and RDS website. A $2500 call for Staal on boarding Coburn? His hit looks like suspendable to me.
I don’t know if someone has facts here, what’s the most expensive fine ever put in an NHL player in history?
AJ i dont know what the largest fine ever imposed on an NHL player, but under current CBA the maximum fine is $2500> However, when a player is suspended he forfeits his salary for those games…so that would be considerably more expensive>> A player making a million dollars a season makes about $12,500 per game>>
