The Canadiens built a 3-0 lead against the Vancouver Canucks, then let it slip away with an inevitability that has become sadly familiar to Bell Centre fans.
AUDIO of Jacques Martin
take a board with five holes in it one in each corner and one the middle place it in front of the net , get all the millionaires and the future ones and keep them there untill they reach 99% profiency of hitting at least the board let alone putting in the hole.
M Molson expects excellence. His people, Mssrs Gauthier and Martin understand this but are dealing with a depleted line-up. So, M Molson cannot really attach responsibility for this patch-work team’s performance given the injuries.
I’m certain that once the line-up is healthy, ie the return of Markov, Campoli, & Gomez, scrutiny on the performance of Mssrs G and M will intensify.
I’m also certain that M Gauthier is on thin ice anyway because of:
1. the Wiz for Markov decision – the downside risk of this decision will have cost the line-up 1/2 of the season without a talented defenceman and no guarantee of any extended health. Will this decision eliminate participation in the post-season, ie profitability?;
2. building the line-up to include too many small, aging players;
3. inviting complacency by allowing the line-up to remain essentially the same as last year; and
4. Losing badly in the 2011 edition of the Montreal – Toronto rivalry to build a winner.
I know one thing I’m not doing and that’s putting on sports center here on the west coast . Enough already……….
Right! Whre you at on the Coast? I am stuck in Central Coast Cali…No hockey here!
I might not watch either, unless Jennifer or Kate or Natasha is hosting.
How about it NHL? No fighting, just hockey?
On the bright side Geoff Molson has full confidence that this team will be successful. He conveniently did not define what “successful” means.
ya, return on investment successful
The true meaning of the word” Successful”to Geoff Molson is when you can sell someone a 12 pack of pi$$ and the person who bought it thinks it’s good beer. Happy Hangover!
Look I am all for giving in an sending JM job hunting for Xmas, but who honestly would replace him right now? Anahiem’s old coach? Who else, Muller left and joined the Hurrican’ts…I know it will never happen but I miss Carbo!
Rocket… Although it’s surely a legit question, damn, something needs to change and that something is JM.
Oh I hear ya brother! I am through with “The System” I just hope we don’t jump to something that becomes exactly what we have now. Maybe if we would have fired JM last year and snagged up Boucher things would be different, who knows..We all know this ain’t working though.
Another game, another loss. Get used to it boys.
When you are up 3-0 and blow the lead then lose in OT, you didn’t “salvage” a point. If they’d gone down 4-3 and got a goal back. and then lost, you could say they salvaged a point. They blew a point, period. Quit polishing turds.
Was thinking exactly the same, “salvage” doesn’t cut it!
dumb comment removed. The talk is going to be pretty hot tomorrow. But you just get the feeling that this front office doesn’t listen to anything, or just says screw you, we know better than anyone. in spite of the evidence.
You have a point
Hockey Inside/Out blogger
Gazette City columnist
it’s only wording, i’m sorry. so frustrated with this team
Boone the Propagandist!
You kinda have a point, but I always thought “salvage” to mean, like, when the ship is sinking, all of the cargo that you manage to save from destruction is considered salvaged. In that sense, we salvaged a point. We were sailing a 2-point ship, crashed into, let’s say, an iceberg, and managed to retrieve a point from the hold as it sunk. But sink it did!
was just bitching at a headline, didnt even know or care who wrote it. Ah it’s only hockey, it’s still fun even to complain.
En français, there’s an expression called ‘sauver les meubles’, saving the furniture. As in the disaster happened, the house burned down, but at least you had time to get the furniture out. Tonight, les Canadiens ont sauvé les meubles.
That was too bad, pretty sad. Gorges was sleeping backskating into the net on the second goal, and Price gives up a floater for the tying goal. In OT Plekanec can’t even get near the puck. Very sad when 3 of your supposed best players can’t pull through.
In technical terms, the gap play of PK and Gorges is terrible. Separate them or have them separate the the opposition of the puck at the blue line.
Price needs to be better. I know he is our best player but he can’t give up goals like that. Please do not go to butterfly position on 60 foot shots.
The line changes where we dump and then the opposition next bull dozes us in our end, need to cease.
This team isn’t near as good as it was at the start of the season when they were consistently out shooting the opponent. \
Spacek will help, believe it or not.
Are you kidding me, that floater was a knuckler. Its one of the hardest shots for a goalie to stop. Price has been great but you keep telling yourself that he needs to be better when this team can’t hold a lead or play defence or score a goal in a shootout.
Do the math:
The team is challenged to score.
The team has an awful power play.
The team takes way too many bad penalties.
The team can’t protect a lead.
The team sucks in Shootouts.
Add it all up and what do you get?
I know the excuses, Markov’s injured, Campoli, Spacek, Gomez, Muller’s gone, blah blah blah.
I don’t buy it.
In the 2+ seasons, JM’s been here, he has taken a team with a high octane speed game with some good sharpshooters and hamstrung ‘em with his game plans or “The System”.
What does that say? It says he has no respect for the natural talent that his players have and insists they deaden their God-given ways to play the game he thinks they have to play to win.
He thinks they’re not good enough as they are and can only win if they do it his way.
His way with the ridiculous protect-the-lead-defensive-shell is stupid hockey.
I could go on… but I’m pissed off.
Jack Edwards sucks chowdah chunks
If Higgins and Booth were playing tonight ,it wouldn’t been close and I’m amazed we got one point cause WE’RE NOT A GOOD TEAM!Gauthier , Gainey and Timmons put together an injury prone mishmash of overpriced and under sized veterans from hell to go along with a question mark Defense and a group of AHL’ers …..Just cause they’re wearing a C.H. means diddlysquat as a measure of talent! And if anybody is surprised at the outcome so far all I can say too you is “really?”
ya ur right the big lebowsiki, u coming to bowling this saturday
And miss another shoot-out ? I’ll bring the smoke………
k good cuz i can’t make it sunday cuz its sabbath i’ll bring my pipe saturday
We’ll have to smoke a nail of yakupov…..
“Well that’s just, like, your opinion, man!”
– The Dude.
(I concur, just wanted to quote The Dude).
The Dude abide’s ….
How is Timmons responsible for an “injury prone mishmash of overpriced and under sized veterans”?
Timmon’s and his gang should be scouting Quebec as well as Minnesota ,no?
This is basically an average team, with an average coach getting average results.
+3 to the “It’s A Wonderful Life” thread found below
its a great movie
idle vs. Habs71… rap battle.
he better not start with me
idle ur a clown u wanna have a rap battle or not
Why you want to battle with me? I’m just a clown from Hogtown.
i’ll see you tmrw u clown
stomp the yard…
Saturdays call is anyones – JM move Kostitsyn up to the 1st line – at least we’ll have 2-half decent lines – Leblanc with Moen and Gionta on the 3rd what do you have to lose.
I think Martin should reunite Steve Shutt, Guy Lafleur, and Jacques Lemaire. I know they are getting a little long on tooth, but even now Shutt would score more goals than Cammalleri.
Habs are like a little red sports car whose top speed is electronically limited.
*Listen to my instrumental tribute entitled “Habs at War” at http://web.me.com/ptolias/Music/OtherOriginalMusic.html
i dont know which team is worse
The Breslau Blues just lost their 7th straight in a game they should have won
The Montreal Canadiens seem to lose every game they should win
Thank goodness the Breslau Blues get to drink beer in the dressing room
At least you could say they weren’t supposed to win this game?
BLOW IT UP! There’s no where to go but up. This team absolutely sucks. It cannot get worse. Nothing should be untouchable. BLOW IT UP!!!!!!
I am convinced that any other GM would get a great deal on any Habs player and he would instantly play better elsewhere.
Is there an established player in recent memory who came to Montreal and scored more points then they had been in their career previously?
Montreal is where players come to flatline
Kovalev? KInd of one year…
Kirk Muller tied his output of 94 pts… that’s all I found
can’t get worse…..give JM a little more time…it will
take your drink to the end of the bar buddy…come on now, don’t be a fool…
We are doing OK, and we are missing our best player. Once Gomez comes back, we will be awesome!!!
Wait till they get MAB back.
MAB has 21 points. Would be good for 2nd on the Habs.
We were in this exact same spot in 09-10, Markov came back at the end of December, Habs made the conference finals.
One point out of a playoff spot with our best player to return in a coupla weeks.
Wah, Wah, JM sucks, Gainey sucks PG sucks. Habs have missed the playoffs 1 time since Gainey took over 9 years ago.
I’d be careful talking like that around here. You might be called a clown…
good post man
See, there may be some hope for you yet Habs71 : )
This guy’s a clown
ya he is a clown lol
I guess we could look at it this way – we are the only team in the eastern division – playing .500 Hockey.
I think Roy might want to coach Nordiques rather than Montreal and maybe that’s causing problems. Maybe part of the reason no change yet. If Gainey is talking/advising to Geoff that can only mean Gainey is still going to be around. I think that’s bad too. Geoff has to get rid of everyone pronto. Gainey, I hate to say, is a screw up too. Great player, horrible GM and advisor. Retire already man.
Before he retires, he may get called by Dallas
I like this team, I like the players and I like the skill + the goalie is amazing. Cole is one of my favorites as I’m waiting for him and Pacioretty to go ape in one if the after game interviews to get a feel what’s really going on.
Either way we will get out of it. I have faith!
We could be the Islanders
A little bit of colour in a bleak, bleak world.
Can someone, anyone, please explain this frickin’ team? Can’t win close ones, up 3 goals, can’t win, can’t win in OT, can’t win in a shoot out, can’t win at home, what the hell is going on? If it wasn’t for Priceberg, we’d be even worse than we are. I still believe talent wise we are better than this, so now what, is this all supposed to get better when Markov is back? wishful thinking I say, somethings gotta give!
Pretty simple AH…..this team is being dismantled, and who is on it is not strong enough to play to win..the coach plays to tie…its obvious
For everyone calling for JM’s fireing it won’t happen until it’s too late. For the count to get the cut he’s got to have Markov, Spacek, Campoli in the line up and Gomez out and still suck.
Montreal has scored 4 shootout goals in 20 attempts. Price hasn’t been much better, only stopping 47%. The only teams who have a worse scoring record in the SO than the habs (only 8 teams in that category) haven’t played more than 4. Honestly why don’t they just practice doing shootouts? if we even just won half our shootouts we would be in 7th place.
If this team was anty good, it wouldn’t get to a shoot out…thats your answer
47% is still a lot better than the 4-for-20, which is only 20%.
I said he wasn’t much better, indicating he’s still better. My point is that they need to practice, I didn’t say hang price for this. My entire point minus the sentence on Price was pointing to the inability of the shooters to score. All i’ saying is that both sides can use the practice
The problem is not the team’s ability to win in shootouts, the problem is the team’s inability to win in regulation. There’s no way tonight’s game should have ended in a shootout.
Yeah but still, by working on a shootout you can stop crap like this where the other guys stole a point from a game we lead. Also you have better moves and confidence in those breakaway situations. Helps price too.
I am going to ask you guys the same thing I asked you the other night. Can someone shoot me please, I can’t stand to watch this shat anymore.
where do you live man
NDG. Right near Mr. Hot Dog and Souvlaki George. Thanks friend
no problem man just doing you a favor from one habs fan to another before u go through with this you should Watch “Its A Wonderful Life” then see if you still want to follow through with this
Does Jacques Martin get fired in Its a Wonderful Life, if not I am not going to waste my time watching that shat either.
no sorry man jacques martin is not in the movie i’ll be at your house soon then man see ya in a bit
According to TSN990 Jim Rutherford said the main reason he hired Kirk Muller was that everyone he talked to said that Muller was the one making all the decisions in Montreal!
JM is not creative, he is not spontaneous and he is rigid to the point of being a corpse!
What does the Commissioner of the NHL do?
In short, a league commissioner is the action man for the Board of Governors.
They tell him what they want done and he works to make it happen through his subordinates while making sure that individual franchises play by the rules.
******** Translated if you haven’t won the Stanley Cup in 40 years your NHL team is becoming irrelevant in a sports mad city long behind MLB, NFL and NBA teams, you just tell the commissioner(who you gave a new contract at 7 plus million per) to make it happen and the rules are bent sufficiently to action the command.
So when everyone was bitching non stop about Martin last season too it was actually Kirks fault? Good to know.
im pretty sure we were leading our division this time last year
Compare last season at this point to this!
Results answer your question!
ya idle is a clown check the stats
From Hogtown say no more!
Loosing is an institution there!
Anyway it was Rutherford’s words not mine!
Not that I disagree one little bit!
what are you guys talking about. Who said anything about this point in the season? People were complaining all the time last season about Martin. Do you think this is new?
So if you think Muller was making all the decisions then he has to have been at fault. You can’t have it both ways!
Results! Results, Results!
Its all that counts, Muller was here and they were competitive on the ice and in the standings he leaves and they’re not at all!
Bitching about JM last year was a mere whisper compared to this, why, the lack of results!
They are missing Markov, Spacek, Campoli, White, Gomez. They have the most inexperienced D in the league. They got off to a very poor start losing 5 early on. Yet still they have only lost 11 games in regulation time and have points in 5 straight games.
I’m not even saying I like Martin. I don’t really care that much about the coach. I’m saying it is silly to be bashing the coach non stop day after day when there is nothing much better you should be hoping for right now.
The team is arguably not good enough even when healthy. They certainly are not good enough missing half their D. And their scorers are not producing. Be pissed off at them for awhile.
So what from Hogtown? A habs fan since birth, in enemy territory. No credit for that I guess…
There is something wrong when you are called a ‘clown’ for defending the team.
idle ur a clown ur from hogtown
At least idle has a grasp on the English language.
that’s ur best post yet idle talking about the injuries and inexperinced d congrats on the post
Loosing is an institution on Hogtown you argue that JM is not the problem that Muller was if Jim Rutherford is correct.
Its the environment! You appear to be content with status quo ie making excuses for JM and accepting continued losses and poor and disorganized play which has been exasperated since the departure of Muller and is obvious with this season’s RESULTS!
idle martin needs to go simple as that and i don’t remember this much hate for martan as their is now
Another shootout and no Pleks. What gives? that’s the 3 last shoot out games without #14.
JM has turned him into a D-man now..
HAHAAHHAHAHa now that’s funny
If I remember correctly Pleks sucked in the shoot out last time he was out there.
The drive for 25 is alive!
He has a very low percentage in the shootout. I think he over thinks.
…this just is not the way a Montreal Canadiens’ Team should play
…keep this up and Geoff will soon be wondering WHY ??? Our Fans are prefering to play golf, play with Our children, go to a movie, make love with Our girlfriends or wives, solve Suduko puzzles, listen to Justin Bieber
…anything but buy a ticket or suffer through Senator/Panther type hockey
…maybe ? Geoff just does not ‘get it’
Habitant means PASSIONATE HOCKEY
wow ur a good father choose the habs over ur kids
Ease up on people…please?
…never watch live UNLESS My Kids with Me Habs71
ok good i thought u were puttting the habs ahead of ur kids good to see watching with ur kids
Suffer thru Panthers type hockey?
4th in the NHL,
2nd in the eastern conference,
a record of 16-8-4,
ya, god forbid we play like that.
unfreakingbelievable the tripe you guys post on this site.
…take a sedative Habsolutely …referring to Jacques Martin’s Panthers & Senators
oh, gotcha. sorry, my bad. I just read so much Panther hate on this site it gets to me. JM was horrible here.
every1s losing lol
every1s losing it lol
He most likely was referring to the Senators/Panthers when Jacques Martin was involved with the respective teams.
The Scott Gomez line………..where wingers go to die.
In case you are interested in seeing Brendan Gallagher, sportnet west is showing the WHL Portland vs Vancover Giants tomorrow at 8 mountain time. Don’t now if you get it back east but it might be a good escape.
oh yeah thanks and sorry
Holy Christ are you f&$%in’ me Surrey? I see you capitalizing “we” “our” “me” “us” in every post, as well as “fans” in your most recent, and I don’t see people so anal to correct you…
I’m disappointed, Habs suck ass so we’re correcting spelling errors
The kids thing I can understand, but the latter is just crazy talk.
(No I don’t have kids but I’m just messin’ around)
any1 who has facebook LIKE the fire martan page
I feel bad for Price. He definitely deserves better, a lot better. Coach that is.
“Hate Bruins like a sickness”
right given CP’s performace Habs should have a lot more points.
This team is mediocre at best…PG signed a 3yr contract to a defenseman with a major knee injury, let go a d-man with multiple years experience, signed a journeyman d-man as a replacement who he got into game action after 2 exhibition games and got injured as he didn’t have enough training time, let go a faceoff specialist with a suspect defence corp that now needs to work 27-30 minutes per game .A Ryan Mcdonaugh sent away for a -player who had a great career when he was able to play…etc…
I don’t post often, and by the way, I meant Swiss not Swede my last post…thanks for the correction.
I could rant all night about “Les Amour”..but I’ll close with this.
along with 10 others
The Canadiens again played just well enough to lose a close game. They were playing the Canucks, a much stronger team than the Blue Jackets they faced on Tuesday, and thus modulated their effort accordingly, and played up to the opposition. Almost. They took advantage of a shaky Roberto Luongo to grab a lead of 3-0 early in the second, at which point their rubbery knees and clammy palms took over, and they couldn’t finish him off with a fourth tally.
The Canadiens defence rolled along well without Yannick Weber, banished to the pressbox in favour of Frédéric St-Denis. Mr. St-Denis scored his first NHL goal with a simple wrist shot from the blue line, as did Raphaël Diaz. Hal Gill did his Human Zamboni act on the penalty kill, which is disconcerting to observe, and causes a pseudo-expert to yell at him through his 50-inch Toshiba to get the heck up on his feet, but dang it if it isn’t effective, as he helped kill off the 5-on-3 thusly splayed on the ice.
The forwards are cooling off to a dangerous degree. Travis Moen has been lucky this season, but tonight missed a few chances by a foot or so. Mike Cammalleri’s one-timers aren’t working, or even threatening. Max failed to convert a seeing-eye pass from David Desharnais through two defenders. As they cool off they seem to be tightening up, pressing too hard or trying to fire the shot through the goalie, extra hard, instead of smoothly potting the chances, with calm.
The Canucks seemed to be the adversaries tailor-made to send the Canadiens on a winning streak, in that while a stacked club, they are more of a finesse and skating team with which we match up well. Especially after a promising start, this kind of game is hard to swallow.
why don’t you try making one next?
u like to think markov is the key to everything HE’S NOT
I don’t think he is the key to everything, and have never said that. I’m saying he will be back and playing this season. People posting that he is finished and will not play again are wrong. He will play again.
What I think is the key is getting some relief for the teams inexperienced D. That means getting one or some of Markov, Spacek, Campoli back. It is hard to imagine that that can’t make an impact.
Markov is a d-maqn on one knee…he’ll never be what he was…take it from a former d-man (midget who had lleg issues) he’ll never be the same…PG made a major error in resigning him
if there is one thing this team is good at is snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
The 2010-11 Stanley Cup was not won, but given
Put Budaj in next shootout. See how it goes. At least take the heat off our teams best player, by far. Great game Carey. I will root for you regardless of where you play next year.
It might not be a bad idea, because it might serve as an embarrassment to the shooters. Price needs to be better in the shootouts, but you are not going to win any of them if you can’t score.
It’s like when a team comes out flat and hangs their goalie out to dry and goes down a couple goals and the coach pulls the goalie, not because it’s his fault, but to wake his dumb ass team up.
i would never do that if i was Price id as for a trade that would be way to embarssing for price
I Support Jacques Martin
Whatever happens, I think he can support himself.
“For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the Gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the LORD.” Exodus 12:12
“We don’t see things as they are, but as we are.” – Anais Nin
The man did get a Golden Parachute worked into his contract. He learned something from Cammalleri, Gomez, and Gionta.
Does Habs17 support him too?
ya i seen antoine write that earlier today just making fun of him he wanting to see if he replied i hope martan gets fired
Martin is a loser, plain and simple. This team will not play for him. With him as coach there is no future! Ever!
If Molsons intends to model its ownership of this team like the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, then Geoff should just hire Pat Quinn to coach with Cliff Fletcher as the team’s general manager.
Glad I got off that ride..
Man this team stinks, can’t score in a shootout, can’t hold a lead, can’t score on the Power Play, but according to Martin the Habs are a puck possession team, what a crock. This coach and GM need to go and now. If I’m Carey and PK and the organization doesn’t fire the coach and GM when contracts come up they could and probably would make tracks as fast as they could, I know I would. Geoff if your listening you could end up losing your star goalie and your up and coming defense man.
So true. Geoffrey better stop counting the profits of the sellouts every night and worry about Pricey or PK saying screw this and bolting at first chance of unrestricted free agency.
The most frustrating thing of the year is we have 2 losses, count em two 2 loses by more than 2 goals (4-1 Calgary and 4-1 Anaheim).
We are in most games, but we ALWAYS find ways to lose, and that is where this team is getting annoying. Price is atrocious in shootouts this year and JM uses the same shooters over and over again and what we have 2 goals in 5 shootouts this years? Why doesn’t AK46, Eller, Pleks ever shoot, heck let LL shoot, build his conidence.
Another way to look at it, is Habs are 1-0-3 in December. Although 3 losses in last 4 games sounds bad we do have 5 of a possible 8 points against 3 very good western conferences team (and Columbus). I am just as frsutrating as the next guy about this team, dont get me wrong. JM needs to go, he doesn’t know how to work with this team. Will it happen? No because management is more concerned with beer sales then the most storied franchise in history.
why are you guys so worried??? Geoff Molson has complete faith in JM, PG, and the great Scott “Fenwick” Gomez.
Some posters are suprised that the habs cant score ..i dont know why?… have they not watched this team the previous 2 years?..we ended up somewhere in the 20sh in scoring the last two years just like we are this year..this team loves to have players on the team every year that score a goal every 12-15 games…imagine if moen was on his usual 5-7 goal season pace..it would complement nokia who has no scoring skills at all, darche is the new pyatt ..and the list goaes on and on…physically our forwards just cannot compete with the other teams size and aggressive players
wow completley agree with your post espcially about darche being the new pyatt i said the same thing
dude, you gotta let it rest for a bit if you can’t say something new. you’re almost as repetitive as the SO losses.
Gotta hand it to Martin and his defensive system, cost us another win tonight, blowing a 3-0 lead and peppering Luongo with 5 shots in the 3rd. What a sorry exscuse for a sorry coached team. I mean what more evidence does our useless owner need before he fires the trigger? Sick & tired of this garbage display of pee wee hockey.
give up on 79 boys hes done, not coming back.
he’s a waste of hockey player he’ll never be the same.. he comes back and hes hurt again .. its time to move on it was a bad signing might as well just give him his money and leave. find a better defensemen we can build our squad around
“he’s a waste of skin”
Wow. You call yourself a human being?
GO HABS GO!!!
if you want to call him that
That is your answer as to why he will not play again?
Boone must be REALLY excited for Freddy
Does Cammelleri know that the season has started yet or is he too busy getting manacures and peticures. He seems more concerned about scoring with Heather Moyse than scoring for the hockey team.
Undefeated in regulation so far in December!
“To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high!”
what do you mean 3 points in his last 3 games!
But in all seriousness I can’t justify putting the blame on him, but I imagine he would be the first to give up on JM’s system. He’s not that kind of player to play that way. This is a point per game player expected to play defense.
If you’re going to force the fans to watch this kind of soul-numbing hockey, there is no excuse to be 11-18 in the regular season. They have a small supposedly skilled team that can’t score 5-5,5-4,4-4 or 1-1.
It’s a disgrace.
Notice the ’79’ helmet in the background behind Gill…
