Multimedia: Audio from Cunneyworth, video from the room

The coach did not like some of the penalty calls, particular the goaltender interference on Andrei Kostitsyn that cost the Canadiens a goal.

AUDIO: Randy Cunneyworth

  1. CHasman says:

Since we didn’t win the damn shootout again we all have our own selection of shooters to throw out. (One thing we lost in Cammy was a dangerous guy on the shootout.) For Cunneyworth, last night he took a gamble, it works he’s a hero, it doesn’t we crap on him. So now we’re crapping on him. For me, I’m happy the Habs came back to score late and tie the game. Little steps everyone. Now for the power play…

  2. Cam_1 says:

For the Habs they say it can’t get any worse, and that there is nowhere to go but up, but you know what ? It can get worse, it can get a lot worse, and that is exactly what just seems to be happening !

  3. redgorf says:

I agree get somebody besides Cole to score goals if it take a flashy player like PK go for it ,he’s not about to change his style of play, if you were to lower his ice time you’d end up with an other Cammy,I amconvinced of this, his ego would not accept this and never will. The loss last night is not about the s/o its the lack of goals.

  4. j2w4habs25 says:

We should just use Budja more othan and let the team scram around like they have then get rid of him in the off season and get Martin Brodeur to come and show Price the ropes and whatever esle – Martin Brodeur did say he keeps an eye watch on Carey Price and knows hes got what it takes to be a very good goaltender – at the same time we can make a run for drafting Nail Yakupov from Russia.

After all we are just 3 points ahead of last place.

    Carey Price #31

  5. habs001 says:

While we never score in a s/o..i wonder if price continues to have a poor s/o record if that would influence his selection for the olympics..his jr record being so long ago pretty well is meaningless for olympic selection..

  6. RiverviewCanadien says:

    I just listened to Price.

Wow, how can Carey feel that way about the shootout. Sounds like him taking the blame for those losses. Has he been great in them, no, but I hate the SO. They should not be the deciding factor in the NHL. Bring in a 3pt system if you keep it around.

I was never completely sold on Carey until last year. And no, not that I ever felt Halak would have the better career. I just feel fans may have thought of him as the next Roy too soon.

But his composure, his posturing during interviews never stuck me as arrogance, but always smelled of confidence. A well spoken YOUNG man, with a TON of talent.

Carey, worry pas, the team is on the rise.

When Plekanec scores in the game, you put him in the shootout over Kaberle.

I think the SO loss goes on Cunneyworth (first one I pin on him). He won’t make that mistake again.

Andrei, Cole or Eller should always be 2 of 3.

  7. habs001 says:

The posters who still think the habs can make the playoffs must believe we will win 26 games and the majority of those games in o/t or 2-1 because that is the only we will win that many…

  8. habs001 says:

it seems to me in the s/o this year most of the goals scored on price have been by european players..i may be wrong?

  9. RiverviewCanadien says:

Mike scores the lone goal for CGY. I guess he is a hero.

You can tell by Tomas’ reaction, he hated that loss, and I bet he feels responsible. As a fan of Pleky he is responsible for his stick, and I hope he took that one in the locker room. call me a homer, but these hicksticking calls and delay of game calls are becoming a joke. Always black and white. Yet running goalies and head shots all fall in the gray area. Why?

    What is wrong with hockey?

IMHO. The rules of the game.

    • CHicoHab says:

Yeah he scored standing in front of the net deflecting a 95 mile an hour shot. When was the last time he got one of those goals in a hab uniform???? Must of grown a pair on the way to Calgary.

“take your time and hurry up”

  10. CHicoHab says:

LA 4 Calgary 1 Final!! Cammy overheard saying “jeesh,at least in Montreal they always lose by one? What’s up with these losers”

“take your time and hurry up”

  11. billylove says:

It’s just pure speculation for folks to reach conclusions about whether the trade was good or bad. Most trades take years to determine who won and who lost. Many may disagree, but the jury is still out on the Halak deal. Not that I’m blaming Price for anything that’s wrong with this delicate group, but more time is necessary to really determine who got the best. Same with the Cammy deal. So, speculate all you want but only time will tell.

    • GUNKA DIN says:

The trade is a clear win for the Habs. You can argue all night about which GOALIE is better, and the answer is that both are very good indeed. But the real benefit as a trade goes is that Eller is a very good centre, and the Habs could only keep (or afford) one of two excellent goalies the next year.
So in the end, the Habs and the blues have goalies that are pretty well equally matched for skill and youth, but the Habs have Eller who is also young with a great future for the bonus.

A big win win situation for both teams considering the Blues had no goalie worth much at all to start with and most used goalies go for maybe a draft pick or two..

      see my blog at

  12. HardHabits says:

Blues win in shoot out. Halak in nets. Shakespeare couldn’t write this stuff.

  13. Trisomy 21 says:

I am amazed that Pacioretty keeps getting chances in the shootout.
I knew he would shoot and was not at all surprised that he didn’t score.
I’m not going to judge the Kaberle decision, maybe he showed something special in the practices? Then again maybe Pacioretty scores on Price in practice because I noticed all 3 Ott shooters shot at price, rather than deke, and I remember one time all 3 shooters shot at his blocker.

  14. NCRhabsfan says:

I’m pretty sure this loss was Bourque’s fault. Okay, maybe not, I’m just practicing for next week when everything will be Bourque’s fault on this site.

  15. alwayssunny says:

Been down so long it looks like up.
I hope Cammalleri scores 20 goals for Calgary down the stretch. I’ll still see it as a great trade for Montreal. He wasn’t doing it here and fantasizing about his playoff run a couple of years ago doesn’t reflect his contribution to the Habs. He wasn’t contributing anywhere close to what he was being paid to do. 6-7 million for a 20 goal scorer? Who brought nothing else? i’m still in shock that the idiots who run this organization shed his salary and picked up a number two. Great trade. Lets see more.

There isnt much left to deal. Gainey ruined the farm. Oh yes tell me about those world Juniors. Nobody cares about them. I’ve heard about them for 20 years. So who’s available? Get rid of that headcase Kostitsyn, he has no character at all. Next I’d be asking who can I get for P.K. Subban. He could be attractive to a lot of GMs who havent watched him closely this year. Carey Price is another of the few who have some value. You could get a throw in Goalie in the deal who would perform just as well as he does. His numbers say he is worse but he is at least middle of the pack and I think a good GM could get a decent player for him based on the hysteria he gets in Montreal.

    • Trisomy 21 says:

So you would trade away a 22 year old defenceman, who’s over 200lbs and can really hit a guy. Has 17 points in 43 games for a team that’s among the worst 10 teams as far as points, bottom 5 for goals for. Plays 24 minutes per game and is -2 despite doing a bit of PK work and being on a team with stats mentioned above.

So tell me Sam Polluck, what kind of players should we put on our team? Cause apparently we don’t have anything on our farm so we’re going to need to acquire some sort or defenceman

    • HabsInHamilton says:

Great start, but I think we could still do more. For starters, re-sign Gomez to at LEAST a 10 year deal worth 6 – 7 million. Next I think we should trade our next 5 first round picks for Brad Marchand and Milan Lucic. After that we’re going to have to assemble a goalie since we traded Price. I’ll run over to Home Depot to pick up some supplies while you get Houle and Tremblay on the phone to offer them their old jobs back!!!

    • Lizardking89 says:

Glad you’re not the GM. Price, Subban and AK are the players we build around not get rid of. Subban is in his 2nd year and Price has defense in front of him with more holes than Swiss cheese.

    • habstrinifan says:

I watched two periods last night and a period and a half against Boston. Couldnt watch the entire games. P.K played great last night and in Boston..especially so in the first period in Boston.

Please let me know which team and when you make that P.K trade so I can make sure to free up my schedule to watch them play. I have concentrated on observing P.K last few games cause of al the put-downs he gets from HIO board. I was getting worried that maybe he was a flash-in-the-pan. No, he is real! He needs lots of coaching and growing but he is REAL. And he is worth watching so again Mr GM, please let me know ahead of time when you make that deal.

It would be a sad day for Mtl though.

  16. sakuman says:

Everyone compares Cammy to Bourque saying they have the same number of goals in the last two season…what a joke! Compare the stats that count: Cammy has 32 points in 32 PLAYOFF games! He is a MONSTER come playoff time! In the same period of time (approximately) Bourque has 1 playoff point! There is no comparison between these guys. One is an elite achiever WHEN IT COUNTS, the other can”t even make it to the playoffs, season after season. Enough said.

    • Mike D says:

You’re right; Cammy is a great playoff performer. That is a fact.

The rest of your post doesn’t make much sense though. Are you blaming Bourque for not playing many playoff games when Calgary is one of the more incompetently run franchises in the league? They refuse to sell their valuable aging assets for futures despite not being a good enough team to make a run and having a pretty bare cupboard of quality prospects and picks. They were also spending to the cap BEFORE acquiring Cammy. Now they’re 2.5mil over the cap since acquiring Cammy so will have to make other moves just to be cap compliant once their guys return off IR.

But yeah, it’s Bourque’s fault they didn’t make the playoffs. Gimme a break.

      – Honestly yours

      • sakuman says:

I”m not saying it”s Bourques fault they didn”t go far in the playoffs. I am saying that Bourque did NOTHING to help them go far in the playoffs (EVER) and Cammy has excelled in the playoffs.

        • Mike D says:

By that same token then, could you not look at the regular season stats over the past 2.5 years and also say that Cammy hasn’t done much to help his team get into the playoffs, where Bourque has done more to help his team make the post season?

Considering Cammy’s 6mil/year cap hit, he’s paid to be roughly a point-per-game player (reg. season AND playoffs). He wasn’t getting it done and Montreal isn’t making the playoffs this year, so what was he going to do for us? Bourque at 3.33mil provides more value for his salary, adds size and grit to a small and soft line-up, even more so considering who he was swapped for, and is also better defensively.

Come playoff time (whenever that might next be for the Habs), I too will miss Cammy. Of course, we also have an opportunity to replace his playoff production in the meantime, so hopefully not.

          – Honestly yours

          • sakuman says:

Bourque is hated by most fans in Calgary…he is a talented player who RARELY shows his talent and RARELY shows up (Kovalevsky disease). All the Flames fans are thrilled to be rid of him, he is a LOSER!
If you are happy with this trade and think Habs are better off with a guy who never helps his team makes the playoffs (Bourque) and doesn”t do anything in the rare season they do make the playoffs over someone who is a two time 80 plus points player and point per game playoff player, that is you right.
Fact is Cammy was right…the Habs are a bunch of losers, starting with Goatyay. Bourque isn”t going to change anything. Goat-yay is the problem, the guy is an embarrassment to the city of Montreal with his maniac firings and trades.
Fire the Goat and hire Pierre McGuire!

          • Mike D says:

            Couple points:

            1) We also got a 2nd rounder for a 5th rounder, and traded a goalie who wasn’t interested in coming to play for us (Ramo) for a junior player (Holland) who is 9th in scoring in the WHL and seems excited about being part of the organization. And yes, I am aware Holland was a 7th round pick who’s ceiling is projected as a 3rd/4th line player IF he makes the NHL. Who knows though, maybe he’s a late bloomer?

            2) It’s very difficult to trade an under-performing, undersized player with a 6mil cap hit for 2.5 more years on his contract, who’s salary actually goes UP to 7mil the next two years, and who just made negative remarks about the team in a very public fashion. It’s even harder to do that AND get decent value back in a trade. I think PG got pretty good value all in all. I only fault him for not trying harder to shop him around more to see if there were better offers out there.

            3) I love Saku too.

            4) I too am not happy about the knocks on Bourque’s work ethic. If he pulls that sh!t in Montreal, he’ll hear about it. Hopefully a change on scenery will do him some permanent good.

            5) Pierre McGuire as GM? Are you fkn kidding me? C’mon man, put the pipe down. Crack kills.

            – Honestly yours

  17. slychard says:

With the chances of making the playoffs slim at best I wonder if a loss in OT helps our cause at all, that 1 point won’t help they need 2 points per game to make any meaningful ascent in the ranks, might as well lose in regulation so’s to get a better draft position. I hate to admit it, sad but true.

    Kiss my hAbSS!!!

  18. habs001 says:

plecks,gomez,gion,ak46,moen,dd at least 3/6 players cannot come back next year as it will not work …if there was no salary cap than they could as we would replace darche, nokia, blunden with quality players…i think having cole should be an eye opener that some of our better players are not that good…

  19. savethepuck says:

People here have to stop the Cammy watching. He scored a goal, great for him, he’s not a Hab anymore so get over it. Everytime an ex Hab scores a goal in the NHL there is someone on here letting us all know. WGAF
They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
    Carey Price

    • Mike D says:

      Speaking for myself here:

I’m not Cammy watching, I just have the game on in the background. Truth be told, I only posted about the goal cuz I thought the guys and gals on here might want to know. Just though it was ironic that he finally decides to go to the front of the net, which he wasn’t doing with us this season.

For those that are Cammy (or Jaro, Gui!, SK, Ribs, etc.) watching, I actually echo your sentiments.

      – Honestly yours

      • slychard says:

His will to position himself in the crease will last as long as the honeymoon, once it’s over he’ll be skating to his usual comfort spot…the first row in the stands so he can take his one knee down lame @ss shot. Personally he can score 500 goals as a Flamer for all I care, I’m just glad he’s gone.

        Kiss my hAbSS!!!

    • Bigdawg says:

he also got stripped of the puck and that directly led to a goal against.

    • otter649 says:

Should Cammy’s goal count as it was scored with a broken stick….lol

    • Bobcat Bob says:

      Bobcat Bob
Note that he was a -3 in that game. His goal was therefore meaningless

  20. HABZ24 says:

habs now appear to be taking the old oilers approach to rebuilding, lose lose lose til u finish dead last then get a great draft choice, were half way there now…count me in on that genius plan, ill put my jersey away til next season.

  21. habs001 says:

Only team we cannot catch is columbus…right now the habs will score 0-2 goals in the majority of the games..with that type of scoring 25th and below is a solid possibility….

  22. temekuhabs says:

    Bourque better do that tomorrow!

  23. temekuhabs says:

Yeah, just seen it, where was THAT earlier in the year??

  24. neumann103 says:

Cammy just scored on the PP.

A tip on a shot while standing 6 inches outside the blue paint, after pushing off Johnson directly in front of the net.

I am not one of the haters, but where has that been?

    “Et le but!”

  25. Mike D says:

Craziness….Cammy just scored on the power play……a tip in standing RIGHT in front of the net. Didn’t see him there much prior to tonight.

    – Honestly yours

  26. gmd says:

So Cammi waits until being on a new team to finally get his ass in front of the net.

  27. HassanM says:

The next trade by the Habs will be Gauthier for a bag of pucks…which is pretty much what he has reduced the value of the team to.

  28. HassanM says:

What do the young guys have to do to get a regular gig on this team. Sitting Emelin for the sole reason that Crapoli actually played for Ott for like a half season and nobody really cared anyhoo…Wether you played for a team in the past or not unless you were there for an eternity should not be criteria to dress at the expense of a young player who is on an upswing and the only player with a set of cojones on this team that actually scares the opponent. Crapoli should not be on this team he sx and simply gives it away. He was lucky to get the assist tonite because it was PK who saved his bacon and got him the pass.

    • Mike D says:

I think they’re trying to showcase him so they can increase his value in a trade (even if only slightly). Be happy he got a point.

Don’t worry about Emelin. He’ll be a regular in the line up after the trade deadline.

      – Honestly yours

      • HassanM says:

What about next year will he want to re-sign after how he has been treated this year.

        • Mike D says:

Of course he will as long as he gets a fair offer. I don’t think he’s been mistreated at all. It’s his first year in the league and I’m sure even he didn’t expect to play every game. His concern was getting sent to Hamilton and making AHL dollars – which hasn’t happened. Despite having way too many Dmen on this team, he’s stayed up in the bigs the whole year. What would he be mad about?

I realize all players want to play, and I’m sure he doesn’t enjoy watching from the press box, but it’s not as big a deal as you’re making it out to be.

          – Honestly yours

  29. joe-hab-nuno says:

So who are we going to trade tomorrow? My bet is Gomez

  30. habsfan0 says:

Carey Price: “Just chill out. So what if I can’t stop a beach ball in shootout?”

    • JoeC says:

Montreal has 4 goals in 24 attempts, Daniel Alfy is 6/6

Look at the stats before you blame Price, because there is NO way he can win a shootout with out some friggin scoring.

  31. JUST ME says:

Thought they could pull it off . Thought they could even get a shutout. Plek was flying,Carey was hot,Cole was his usual remarquable but… So we really are not exactly up to par with the Sens as the standings shows. Lots of work to be done. Be patient folks ,won`t get much easier soon…

Missed about half of the game for the Saints-Niners ending. Piece of history… Perked me up so the habs defeat does not make my saturday night a complete disaster.

  32. Rad says:

Calgary down 2-0 to the L.A. Kings midway through the 2nd period. Cammalleri is -2. Wonder how long the love affair with Cammy is going to last in Calgary.

  33. HABitual Fan says:

Emelin should not be sitting out. Cunneyworth, what are you doing? The kid should be ahead of at least 3 of the ‘regulars’. And shootouts … does anyone remember Price in the World Junior final?

“… but it’s better than cheering for the Leafs!”

    • Mike D says:

I like Emelin too and agree he should be playing, but I think they are trying to showcase Campoli (and likely Weber) for a trade and try to increase the value as much as possible.

      – Honestly yours

  34. deuce6 says:

Stop whining about the reffing..We had 6PPs and did sweet F all with them..This team needs to score goals..Plain and simple..

Little tidbit of info..CGY is down 2-0 and Cammy is a -2..LOL

Yes, I’m a Hab fan..Wanna fight about it?

  35. savethepuck says:

I have to agree with Cunny on the BS call when AK was pushed into Anderson by Michalek. Totally brutal. I think we had the misfortune of having 2 refs brought up in the GTA that were brought up to hate the Habs. But I’m just guessing.

  36. RJ says:

Was it the refs that put kaberle in the shoot out?

  37. Habfan4lfe says:

Can’t fault Montreal too badly. We got robbed of a legit goal. Another poorly reffed game that cost us.

  38. Bigdawg says:

cammy just got stripped of the puck in the defensive zone only to see LA score 1.5 seconds later.

  39. durocher says:

So today it was the refs fault, fine. What about the rest of the season?

I guess it was the refs’ decisions to put out Kaberle for the shoot-out and to not put out Pleks even though he scored on a breakaway earlier in the game?

    • ProHabs says:

Every loss this year has been either the refs fault, Gomez’s fault, JM’s fault or PG’s fault. Every single loss.

    • Jan_pronounced_Yan says:

Do you not watch this team play? If you did, you would know that Plekanec is terrible in the shootout. If you took 30 seconds to check the stats on, you would see that Kaberle has good numbers in the shootout.

For all you lazy people, here it is so you don’t have to open a new window in your browser, the best shootout shooters on the Habs right now, by shooting %:

      Andrei Markov 40% (4/10)
      David Desharnais 40% (2/5)
      Brian Gionta 38.5% (20/52)
      TOMAS KABERLE 38.5% (5/13)
      Scott Gomez 31.6% (6/19)
      Rene Bourque 28.6% (6/21)
      Andrei Kostitsyn 25% (5/20)
      Max Pacioretty 25% (2/8)
      Erik Cole 16.7% (1/6)
      TOMAS PLEKANEC 15% (3/20)
      Lars Eller 0% (0/1)
      Travis Moen 0% (0/2)
      P.K. Subban 0% (0/3)

Yeah, send out Plekanec. He’s the guy to put out there alright.

      • ProHabs says:

Cunneyworth should have sent out Markov. I am sure his knee is at least well enough to sit on the bench during regulation time, overtime and just use him for the shootout. Think outside the box Coach Cunneyworth.

      • durocher says:

I watched the entire game, the game in which Pleks scored on a breakaway, which should be a good indication of his ability to score on a breakaway (without a defender on his back) against the same goalie. I also watched the same game in which Kaberle was not distinguishing himself at all offensively. The question is why he was selected.

Your suggestion is the stats. But, by that logic, DD, Gomez, and AK46 should have been our shooters given their %’s. But they didn’t shoot. So, the question still remains, why Kaberle?

To object to Kaberle’s inclusion in the shoot-out is not reflective of laziness or whether one has watched the team play this season.

And, in any case, how did using Kaberle work for us on the shoot-out? How was he during the PP? The evidence speaks for itself.

  40. Curtis O Habs says:

It`s painful and hurts, but I still keep watching. Slowly slumping and slouching further and further in my chair.

  41. JoeC says:

Listening to TSN 990 Post game show just proved to me how stupid so many habs fan there are, and how embarassing it is to be a Habs fan with some of the fans we have.

Caller blames Carey Price on the last 3 losses, including the St Louis loss, and BLAMED Carey for BOTH goals against Boston…

Wow, do people realize that Price is our goalie, and ITS NOT HIS FAULT THAT THEY TRADED HALAK.

I really though Toronto has the most ignorant, uneducated fans, i have now changed my mind.

    • Jan_pronounced_Yan says:

Probably the same people complaining about sending out Kaberle for the shootout without checking his career stats.

    • LL says:

The irony is, if Halak had stayed, they would’ve been the first to boo him out of Montreal, and lament losing Price.

I can understand people liking Halak, but the blind hate for Price is unhealthy, to say the least.

That game against the Blues reminded me of the Harlem Globetrotters vs the Munchkins. If fans can’t see it had nothing to do with goaltending, there is nothing more to say.

    • Rainrocket16 says:

I hear ya Joe, It drives me nuts! Most of the time I have to avoid this site, cuz if we were all in the same room together I would be whooping some ass!! Milbury had the balls to say that Halak was doing as good as Price, after Ron Maclean said it was PG’s best move as a GM. Has Elliot not overshadowed Halak!! Damn, people just don’t know Hockey anymore!

      • Jan_pronounced_Yan says:

I like Halak. I really do. But anyone who thinks that he is a better goalie than Price is just plain nuts. Not one GM in the league would trade Price straight up for Halak. Not one.

I also think it’s funny that Price is an All-Star this season (though there are other goalies who were more deserving) and so is Brian Elliott, who started this year as Halak’s backup.

      • Lizardking89 says:

Milbury is a friggin clown and the CBC sucks balls. They couldn’t have gotten anyone better than the man the worst NHL GM of all time and his claim to fame as a player was going after some fan in the stands during a game? What a joke! Our Canadian tax dollars at work folks. I pray CBC loses their hockey rights in 2014 so that we don’t have to hear idiots like him and PJ Stock again on national tv.

    High-sticking that draws blood = 4mins.

The draw blood extra 2 minutes should of been gotten rid of in the 50’s. It’s a joke rule. You get 2 minutes for ending a guy’s career with an eye injury, but if you give him a nick like he got shaving that morning you get an extra 2 minutes. Give me a break and put us in the 21st Century.

They didn’t have the extra two minutes rule in the 50s.

It has always been a referees discretion to call the double minor but the guidance from the league to call the extra 2 when there is “injury” which has been equated with blood was a product of the late 1990s

Boone, do you know what time the protest is scheduled for outside the Bell Center tomorrow.

The call on AK and the one on Patches are about as bush league as you get.

This was heartening to me, this game, since it was obvious that even when they play good hockey and Price is a magician, there is something supernatural blocking them.
    Maybe trade for Tebow?

The season has stunk and tonite was another sad chapter in its story. We just have to keep hoping that it goes fast, Boston loses in first round, and that 2012-13 comes soon.

I think you have to add that the Laffs don’t make a good playoff run because that would put me on the ledge for sure.

You must have missed Tebow tonight against the Pats. He looked like a rookie running quarterback trying to make option plays in the NFL. Works in college but not the pros, never has never will. We don’t need a Tebow.
