If Andrei Markov is out – and he left the rink on crutches – well …
In seven games, the Caps scored one power-play goal.
Pittsburgh had four in 34 minutes
You must be a Caps of Laffs fan. Fact of the matter is the Caps, and Knuble in particular were on borrowed time for all their net crashing. Live by the sword, die by the sword.
How are you correct that they matched up better against Washington than those other teams? While they played well against Washington, they did not play a series against any of those others yet to prove how they would have done against them. With the way they played in round one, perhaps they could have beat some of those other teams too, maybe even in less than 7 games? Hard to really say for sure. I agree with your other comments. It is certainly all fun and gravy at this point.
Metropolit had 5 shifts the last game and only 9 shifts in each of the games before that. Does he really need to be rested or to be singled out for questioning on the freshness of his legs?
Is there concern of fatigue with the goalies for the other teams advancing in the playoffs? The remaining goalies played the whole 1st series for their teams except for Luongo who was relieved by Raycroft for 24:38. Boucher is the only one of them with less TOI than Halak (since Philly only played 5 games). I don’t read or hear folks questioning fatigue for those other goalies. Is Halak that frail?
Every team feels the same way about Lee. Same as it was with Fraser. The guy is just a mess and you never know which way it’s gonna go. Although Lee has been pretty bad towards us this year so maybe it’s time the other team gets jobbed.
chris F lee, bob F cole, and matt F cooke. should be a pretty interesting friday night
had habs in 6 last round because A) i was overjoyed and didn’t care how they really did so i thought the positive karma couldn’t hurt, B) i didn’t put any real money down anyway, and C) i honestly thought they could give ovie and his pals a lot of trouble like they did in the regular season.
plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose
Habs in 6 because A) i am once again overjoyed and don’t care how they do, so the positive karma can’t hurt, B) i can’t afford to put any real money down anyway, and C) i honestly think they could give sid and his pals a lot of trouble like they did the last 2 times they played regular season. Pens won 3rd game on a weak, deflating and far too long over-the-shoulder shot on price that came after hordes of habs had kept pressure on pens for 30min. Mtl won 4th game with “authoritah”. Pens were good vs OTT and sid put on a show but i’ll take gio, gomer, gill and moen’s experience over spezz, alfredson, and chris neil any day.
big factor to me will be escaping the zone without too many giveaways; knocking guys down or off halak like they did vs WAS, because you know there’s going to be some serious crease crowding/running/pileups going on; and of course, bring lots of ice, because pens will dump and chase and drive the D into the boards more in the first game then the caps did all series with their cross-the-blue-line-and-shoot routine.
take it to em, boys!
they disallowed one of ours in the same game so they made it even
IMO, He played well in the beginning of the series but his play saged as the series wore on, he wasnt very good in game 7, to me, he looked slugish, failed to clear the zone numerous times when he had the chance and over stickhandled instead on getting the puck deep. He also keeps shooting high, hes got a great shot but most times he misses the net. Theres no doubt we need him to have a good series.
“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”
IS THAT CHRIS LEE REFFING TONIGHT!?!?
The torch be yours to hold it high!
Before the play offs started, I thought we matched up better against Washington than Pitts, Buff, or NJ. It happens that I was correct but I am not as sure that we can match the depth of the Pens.
Washington is a one dimensional squad, but the Pens are a more rounded hockey club. The challenge is more difficult for sure. But it can be done!
At any rate, any success that we might have going forward is pure gravy, enjoy the ride boys and girls. We have not had as much fun in many years.
A point a game – never missed a shift – a few hits – a few blocked shots(!!) – skated as well in Game 7 as Game 1. It’s not funny, just true. Try to focus a little more on what you’re watching.
i could care less if the habs get ousted in 4. no one expected the habs to be here, a good long series would be great, a win would be historic and unbelievable. and all a loss means is that a team that worked its ass off got beat 4 times by the defending champs. no shame in that. ovie doesnt have what it takes. sid the kid gets what he wants, he makes it happen.
A pivotal goal in a game 7 was waved off in the habs favour and people STILL complain about the refs BEFORE the game has started. I would love to see the Canadiens record when Lee is working the game because I bet it’s not as bad as everyone thinks. Lets face it, the habs have had their fair share of calls go their way in the last 100 years. IMO anyone who whines about the NHL conspiring against the Canadiens need help.
I called Habs in 7 vs WSH. Now Habs in 7 vs PIT. Good Luck, Boys!
Pittsburgh won the cup last year and went to the finals the year before that. So, yes, it is fair to say they are a better playoff team than Washington.
lol ur joking right? haha good one
I called Washington in 5 too, this time I’m calling Pittsburgh in 4.
How can anyone complain about the ‘conspiracy’ against the habs after the disallowed goal in game 7….common be realistic
bettman must be scared for his little sidney so he’s putting chris lee on reffing duty tonight to ensure we don’t get the victory.
– What if Jaro Halak’s hand was indeed shaking? What if you took the CHOKE out of Ovechkin? — History Will Be Made
from what im reading in the media, it means absolutely nothing that washington was a better team than the pens all year. somehow the pens are a bigger challenge than the caps. dont get me wrong, i agree than pitt is a great team, and are the cup champs, but washington was a super fav to win it all. that means they were favs over pitt. so why is it that the pens are all of a sudden better than the caps? i guess the regular season does indeed mean zipperella. get in the playoffs and you can win it all, i hear it all the time. the media switches its opinions as it sees fit. flipflopppers like politicians. this little rant has let me release some nervous energy, thank you.
go habs go.
Pumped for tonite … I’d like to see AK be a little more consistant in the offensive zone .. not to take away from his hat trick .. but he could be a force if he really wanted it ! the dude’s a moose !
I had started to laugh but caught myself- this is very possible!

Whoah, check out the table in the link Boone posted. As the season progresses, Crosby’s +- drops steadily from +3 to -2, and his shot total collapses from 9 to ZERO.
Seems like we can contain him, no? I’d refer to myself as cautiously optimistic, but that handle’s been taken. 🙂
The fix is in!
My thoughts on the series with the Caps:
1. Halak was simply phenomenal & a bit lucky when he needed to be.
2. Ovie was well contained by Gill, Gorges & Spacek. Anyone think Bob signing Gill was a bad move now?.
3. Backstrom was MIA since getting creamed by OB. OB should have started the series. To JM’s credit, he made the necessary adjustments on D, but I wonder if his decision to insert OB in the lineup may have been different if Spacek was good to go.
4. Laps starting to bring it ever night.
5. Signing Moore was a great move. Gauthier is a very astute hockey man. The team is in excellent hands heading into a busy summer when lots of decisions will have to be made.
6. Gionta & Gomez excellent on the PK and defensively. Their offensive contributions were impeccably timed.
7. Cammy? What a pure sniper this guy is. Reminds me of the Rocket.
8. Calling up PK to bolster the D was a smart and gutsy move. To all the doubters out there, you’ll never get anywhere without making some bold decisions. Be bold!
9. The non-interference call in game 2 came back to haunt the Caps. What goes around……
Hey Mike, what’s the storey on Pleks? I noticed that he was being used sparingly by JM in the last 3 games or maybe I just didn’t notice him. He wasn’t very involved. Conscious decision or undisclosed injury?
Don’t know what series you were watching, but AK46 played very well.
Chris Lee tonight.
That will ruin peoples Friday.
hey hey cinderella there should be in a red habs dress or something 😉
I want Laps to totally dominate Sidney!
Is it possible to file a complaint about a referee’s work in a game before he actually refs it?
only? i’ve hated him since the lockout!
can’t believe chris lee made the playoffs this year, and it’s all cause of the retiring refs.
Cris Lee will start a riot in the city of Montreal before this series is over…….
After a long emotional playoff series which invloved me doing very little calculus, I’m fairly certain I just failed an exam. Oh well, I still have a final to look forward too. Plus, the instructor lets us drop 1 grade.
I don’t want to play any of the remaining teams because I don’t think we match up well against them. But, for some reason, I believe in magic and can’t wait to see how it unfolds. GO HABS GO!

i hate chris lee, and this all dates back to when the habs tied it up against the penguins and chris lee disallowed it…

Very upset that the NHL would let Chris Lee anywhere near another Habs game, much less the opening game of a series between us and the Pens, the very team against which he screwed us right out of an obvious goal by changing his mind after the whistle. If the NHL insists on keeping him around for round 2, he should be reffing the Boston-Philly series, where there will be plenty of dirty plays to call penalties on.
Habs hockey = Smart hockey
both big ‘tits and little ‘tits are history.
when Cammy said after game 7 “our guys want to keep on playing”,
the brothers Grimm were not front and center in his thoughts – guaranteed not.
I want Laps to take the opening face off and Butt end Crosby in the Belly again, just to remind him.
If the series gets past game 5 in Pittsburgh, we are in business.
I don’t see the habs losing game 6 at home – and picking “pencils” in 6, well that’s just too ugly for me to accept.
If Pitt wins its in 5 or 7.
if habs win its in 6.
HABS IN FREAKIN 6!!!!!!!!!
now that I have calmed down a bit. here is my thought for this series.
THIS IS ANDY MARKOV’s SERIES!!!!
everyone who lives between Cornwall and the Saguenay thinks Markov is a world class d-man.
MARKOV CAN AND WILL NEED TO SHUT DOWN CROSBY.
if the pundits are wondering why Markov has never been nominated for a Snorris trophy at the end of this series,
and we are worried about how we will afford paying him his next contract at the end of this series,
WE WIN THE SERIES.
and one other thing – thanks Boone for this “Jordan Staal is the best third-line centre in the league”.
I agree. I wouldn’t mind seeing Staal in a Habs uniform!!
He must have really pissed off JM! It isn’t as if he’s any worse defensively than MAB…
For those wondering about Halak’s fatigue, when he took over this season, he could go 4-6 games playing great and then stink for a game or two…at that point he needed one game off to either re-focus or get angry again for not playing. That happened in Game #2 and #3 of the Caps series…if he looks shaky for Games #3 or #4 in a loss, Price should get the next game for Halak to re-focus and/or re-anger.
The Pens play a different game…the Habs may be scrambling more in their zone but at least the shot counts will be less lopsided since the Pens play less run-and-gun.
By the way…does anyone know if CBC still broadcasts HNIC on the radio? If so, what frequency?
“I am guilty of using elipses…”
Renewing the old Lapierre-Crosby rivalry going back to their Q days… I wonder if Lappy can possibly get into Sid’s head like he used to. Somehow I doubt it.
Mike Boone, hockey expert and ladies man. No…wait.
In my experience, momentum is as powerful a force as fatigue. If the guys keep playing tough and nasty in front, and make sure Jaro doesn’t get abused, and gets a look at the puck, he will keep feeling it and keep rolling.
I am more worried about fatigue with the D. Because if the Pens can assert themselves in the slot, bump Jaro and create screens and scrambles, then we’re in trouble. If Pittsbugh pops a couple of quick ones, and Jaro loses his momentum THAT’s when fatigue becomes a factor. It’s the emotional let down that comes from a couple of goals against that really start to make you feel worn down.
So, Gill, Georges, O’Byrne, Markov…don’t lose that nasty edge!
Jacques Martin will put a very tender part of his anatomy into a Cuisinart before he inserts SK74 anywhere but the pressbox.
I wonder if JM will rest Metro and insert SK74 back into the lineup. We could use some fresh legs. I have no idea what is going to happen. Unlike Washington, where I thought we’d have to steal a couple of games, I think the healthy Habs can skate with these guys. I would not be shocked to see either team win in 5, 6 or 7 games.
Beat Washington? Impossible!
Beat the Penguins? Improbable!
