Jimmy Tanaka and Christian St. Roch, veterans of the Montreal pop scene, did not make the finals of the Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge.
The finalists, announced during the second period of tonight’s HNIC season debut, are Canadian Gold by Colin Oberst of Beaumont, Alta., and Sticks to the Ice by Robert Fraser Burke of Toronto.
Voting has begun to determine the winner, who will pocket $100,000.
Small consolation for the Montreal team: their tune, Let the Game Begin, is available from Bell as a ringtone, and they’ll get a cut of the buys.

Yawn, those anthems were boring and uninspiring that is for sure.
Thank god for TSN and keeping the old one alive
Yes the Hockey Theme will reign supreme on RDS and TSN while CBC plays their mediocre anthem and pay some poor sap peanuts for the rights to it.
… I assume you mean the theme recently refused by HNIC. The REAL hockey night theme features Murray Westgate (ask your father).
The reason the kid’s was selected is because he is a kid. Clearly, the one from Quebec was better, and it’s too bad. The kid’s one isnt the best IMO. But it’s amazing for a kid mind you.
Actually, the 2 finalists were the worst of the 5 selected. having hockey fans select a theme, is not the way to go. After all, we’re not Simon Cowl, Randy Jackson, or Paula Abdul!
Affirmative. Mediocrity prevails again.
“Simon Cowl, Randy Jackson, or Paula Abdul”
… and these people would be … ???
lol!
Ex nihilo nihil fit
Habs Fan 4 Ever and Ever Amen.
The guy from T.O Burke, I wonder if he is related to Brian Burke???
