Markov returned to Montreal last night

Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov returned to Montreal aboard a chartered plane immediately after last night’s game, if not before the game had ended, which doesn’t augur well for his participation the rest of the series.

Markov surely is seeing team orthopedic specialists. More to come.

And Jaroslav Spacek has been ruled out of Game 2.

The Canadiens won’t practice today, at least not the full team. The “extras,” as they’re called, will skate at the Penguins’ practice facility; coach Jacques Martin and a few players speak to the media at 4:45 this afternoon at their hotel.

More on Markov’s cruel twist of fate here. Canadiens dressing-room reaction to the loss and a look at Penguins captain Sidney Crosby are linked here on Stubbs’s Twitter page. And more news to come from both camps during the offday between Games 1 and 2.

As per the new CBA, the buyout period runs from June 15 or 48 hours after the end of the Finals (whichever is later) to June 30 at 5:00pm Eastern.

  2. B says:

He is still counting as a roster spot too.

  3. B says:

A.Kostitsyn is in his 3rd full season and his salary is $3.25M this season. He has 3 playoff goals, same as $5M Gionta and 3 times as many as $8M Gomez. He has made mistakes and could certainly be doing better, but I don’t see the utter catastrophe many are claiming. He has done some good things too.

  4. B says:

Not only have they used up all their callups, Weber and Carle are both injured. Carle had a season ending shoulder injury back in January and Weber has only played in 3 of Hamilton’s 7 playoff games.
