Markov lets his game do the talking

NHL.com’s Dan Rosen has a nice piece on Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov that discusses his emergence this year as one of the league’s premiere defenceman.

In addition to the current stable of steady D-men, the Canadians have one of the better crops of prospects. Emelin, McDonough, and O’Byrne have much potential, and Fischer, Subban, Valentenko, and Carle, might also ripen to the big show.

If they stay within the organization, the Habs will have have some solid support for Price for years to come.

Here’s hoping – and I do so with confidence – that Komi and Markov can provide the needed leadership.

p.s. Chuck: your photo is pure genius.

I’ll never forget what jose theodore did for us. I’ve seen all goalies from Plante to Roy and everyone in between and for a couple of years Theo ranked right there with the best, especially 01/02…I have never seen goaltending like that, I’m not saying he was the best, but for that year he was as good as any of them, maybe better!!!

  3. habsgod says:

not even close!!i wouldn’t rank him that high!!of course i’ve never been a fan of theodore’s i’d put steve penny ahead of him!!!

  4. Jonnyboy says:

have to agree with you there,Komi is there every game working it ….

  6. Chuck says:

As far as the populace outside of Montreal and their fanbase is concerned, Markov is just now starting to get the credit he deserves. Most of my laff fan friends here in Ontario still don’t know what he’s all about… and we play them 8 times per season! They wonder why we don’t have a “name” player taking his spot instead.

Of course, that’s what you get when the team is rarely broadcast nationally. Hopefully TSN’s, and to some extent the CBC’s extended coverage of the Habs this year will bring Markov and our other bright spots the recognition and respect that they deserve.

yeaaaa watch that interpretation of wearing the C pretty soon…cause there’s a lot of people on this team that can wear the C eventually…so let’s hope if komi wears the C if at all…it’s here :P

  8. JF says:

Off topic, but as of this morning, we are in 6th place, only 3 ahead of Boston. We have to win tomorrow night!

  9. 24 Cups says:

JF – Especially in light of the fact that we have to play Jersey next.

  10. likehoy says:

also off topic…jose theodore is winning hockey games again…resurgence?

  11. J.T. says:

    …contract year.

  12. habsgod says:

i have to agree with all the posters on here markov and komisarek i think are the best tandem in the division and the eastern conference!

  13. 24 Cups says:

habsgod – Especially in comparison to Timonen and Hatcher in Philly who play for a combined salary of close to $10 mil a year!

  14. JF says:

Agree. We are probably the only team in the League that can’t beat Jersey. I’m just glad we don’t have to play them 8 times a season.

  15. Mr.Hazard says:

SOUTHEAST DIVISION SUCKS! Carolina trails the Atlantic leader (Philly) by 7 points (with 4 more games played) and the Northeast (Sens) by 14, with 2 more games played!

    Ex nihilo nihil fit

  16. Mr.Hazard says:

haha… can goalies really do that? after two years just suddenly pick up their game? i thought he was finished!

    Ex nihilo nihil fit

  17. Mattee. says:

We definetly have a big three right now in Markov, Komisarek & Hamrlik. But just wait until O’byrne comes into his second year. He’s playing very well as a rookie (the odd mistakes aside) and Hamrlik is a perfect defensive pairing.

After that, we need to decide what happens to Bouillon, Brisebois, Gorges, Streit, Dandenault & all the other prospects. Brisebois is going to hang them up soon or otherwise won’t be resigned. I personally think Streit must be kept, and I do like Gorges & Bouillon. Dandenault might be the odd man out (we’re not going to keep him as a forward forever are we?)

Nice article on our # 1 allstar.

NB Hab Fan– I tried to send on your E-MAIL, but it was not the correct #. It was sent back to me across two Quebec boarders and back into Ontario. What is up with that, don’t you know you have to pay extra tax in Quebec. Especialy from the New Brunswick side.
