Liveblog: Shootout won by Daniel F.

Down 2-1, seconds ticking down, Price on the bench …
Let’s hope that heroic goal revives Max Pacioretty.

And now the Shootout:

Eller: Backhand wide

Michalek: Pad save!

Kaberle: Save

Spezza: Wide

Pacioretty: Save

Daniel F.: GOAL!

  1. Jan_pronounced_Yan says:

Wow…I can’t believe all the whining on here about Kaberle in the shootout. Does anyone have a memory that goes back further than yesterday? Has anyone watched our forwards in the shootout this year? Has anyone watched Kaberle against the Habs when he played in Toronto?

Better yet, can’t anyone go through the trouble of checking the stats on this thing called the internet? It takes all of 30 seconds to find Kaberle’s career shootout record on

The man has a good record in the shootout. That’s why he was out there.

Sometimes, I think we have the worst/dumbest fans in hockey.

    • The Dude says:

Kaberle is the worst Dman on the team and if he was any good he’d still be on Boston…He has done nothing for the Habs `NOTHING!’

      • Jan_pronounced_Yan says:

Yeah, nothing. Except for the 9 points in 15 games. Over a full season, that translates to 49 points.

We brought in Kaberle to help on the power play and help our transition game, not to be a top defender. I would say he’s done just fine in those areas.

        • The Dude says:

And how many goals does he cost us? He’s a one dimensional D man who can’t play D and is way over payed and played and is Charmin soft ,which is what a small D don’t need! And by the way Yan ,we lost again!

          • Jan_pronounced_Yan says:

We were losing before Kaberle got here, and since he’s been here. Hate to break it you Dude, but this team is just lost this year. It’s a throwaway season. Shit happens. One guy isn’t going to make a difference this year. If Markov comes back, it won’t matter either.

    • gehedan3 says:

While a record stands forever, I think one has to see that Kaberle’s last s/o attempt was over 2 yrs ago and his last s/o goal was in Oct. 2008. That’s a lifetime ago in pro sports.

  2. novahab says:

Ok that’s it Boone take our crys to PG sign Colton Orr.

  3. JoeC says:

I cant understand how the hell people are talking about Price being an issue, are these people just stupid?? I also dont understand the Gauthier people, what can he do? its not like we can trade Price or PK or anythign and make this team a playoff team, we dont have enough extra pieces to give up our only good players. I really think the problem is our leadership in general, that team plays with no heart, and our leadership on the team needs to do there job and get the fire lit back under there asses.

And people complainign about Kaberle in the shootout, look up your damn stats and maybe stop being a leaf fan.

  4. novahab says:

Hey if Gary the crook Bettman and his henchmen in stripes are going to screw us. I say lets go full out Slap shot. Bring in the goons, call them the Bell Centre Brawlers.

  5. habsfan0 says:

Anybody know what the Habs’ “tragic number” is now?

  6. novahab says:

I wouldn’t mind Colton Orr, if we are going big we might as well be tough. Would look good to see him pound Lucy.

    • ProHabs says:

Would love to see that. No way we are making the playoffs, at least give us 1 thing to cheer for during this miserable, miserable season. Would love to see Orr go into the Gardens wearing the red, white and blue and KO Lucic then point up to Jack Edwards and say your next.

  7. habs001 says:

sk74 has tied his brother in goals today…i still think we need to move ak46

    • savethepuck says:

You are very wrong. Next to Cole, he’s been our best winger this year. Don’t know why everyone craps on this guy.

I used to think it was great when I was a kid, it came in 650mL bottles. Then I finally got a hold of one. Haven’t touched it since.

I think they both flow from the same brewery now.

They lost me 2 quarts of rum, better make it up next year with a cup!

  9. outsider89 says:

All Gauthier has to do now is Sign Steve Bernier and the re-build will be complete. And he should have gotten Colton Orr or Deveaux from Rangers.

  10. Billyboy says:

I thought Martin was dumb in his shootout picks, But Cunneyworth is dumber. Kaberly? Really! Of course it could have been worse, he could have picked Gomez.

  11. slapshot777 says:

    +1 Novahab

  12. HardHabits says:

Mario Tankbley on l’Antichambre talking crazy.

  13. novahab says:

Well with Cammy they were shut out by the Blues and score one against the Bruins. Well they score dtwo tonight and got a point and if it was not for the crooks they would have won this game.

  14. slapshot777 says:

  15. SlovakHab says:

For those who think the season is not over yet:
Habs need to play approx 0.720 hockey to get in the POs.

There is only one problem this team faces: How to get the most for our veterans as we unload most of them for future and rebuild.

  16. topher5468 says:

Budaj Tomorrow, Maybe a change will do us some good

“It’s not an obsession, It’s a way of life..”

    • SlovakHab says:

He should play as much as possible until the deadline – hopefully 50% of the games. Don’t risk Price’s injury and perhaps trade Budaj at deadline for a middling prospect to a team looking for a backup.

    • savethepuck says:

It’ll be Price tomorrow because unlike posters on here, the coaching staff and management still think this team has a shot at making the playoffs. They will ride Carey until there is no hope left becase he gives the team the best chance to win.

“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
      Carey Price

  17. novahab says:

Well some good news, that bible thumping idiot is getting his ass handed to him by the Pats. I guess the spaceman in the sky is not with him tonight.

  18. Marc10 says:

What an awful turd of a game.

    Boring. Boring. Boring.

On the flip side, we’re another loss closer to the rebuild.

  19. slapshot777 says:

If most in here want that first pick or one of the first five then no use complaining. Can’t have it both ways, win and move up the standings or lose and get closer to that first overall pick.

So what is it that everyone wants. If you want the team to tank then stop posting complaints about the team play because you don’t have any reason to bitch your getting your wish.

The only ones that should be complaining are those who truly want this team to win and succeed .

  20. jmsheehy19 says:

Patches is 1/6 this year. PLEASE stop putting him in the shootout. You use your most skilled players, not necessarily your best players.

  21. price365 says:

That’s why we are not in a playoff position – too many 1-goal loses
I have to give them credit tonight – at least they came to play.

  22. slapshot777 says:

Cammy looks like a midget player out there tonight in Calgary/LA.

  23. habsolutely416 says:

for those complaining about kaberle in the SO, nobody else scored so get over it. is pacioretty supposed to be a power forward? i dont see him in the tough areas thats for sure. the spezza goal is how you score on the PP.. park a guy in front and get a good shot off..forget all the perimeter passing BS.

ill be in the slot πŸ˜‰

  24. LL says:

Without constantly pointing fingers and trying to find someone to blame, this was a great game to watch and there were no floaters.

I’m glad Bourque was sitting in the press box watching this game. Hope this makes him hungry to play tomorrow night. So far, in January, our team is .500. Not the best record, but it ain’t over yet.

  25. slapshot777 says:

Not only are we playing bad, the Dogs are playing just as bad. They lost again tonight. I know we took some good players out of that system, but if the Habs are going to makes coaching change at the seasons end. I hope Clement Jodin is not a candidate for that position, because he hasn’t done much with the Dogs either.

  26. smiler2729 says:

  27. kerrgte says:

Gomez – from the box score – 1 hit, 1 blocked shot, 1 giveaway; 16:46 time on ice

    The invisible $7million man.

Some say give him slack he’s been off injured. No slack, this guy is supposed to be a pro, plus he’s been given a helluva lot of slack already. Sorry, no slack. He’s finished.

How about calling me up? I could block a shot and likely be responsible for a giveaway. I’ll be a bargain at $100,000 per game.

  28. reginald57 says:

reginald norris………omg…….how much more… do we have to take of this…..poor price……

  29. gatorhabs says:

We must look at this game objectively….. if Kaberle would have had someone to pass to in the shootout, we could have easily won this game. Let’s take a minute to reflect on this further.

oh. f*ck. We gave up a Hammer to try to get a Nail. sh*t.

    • jmsheehy19 says:

are you a University of Florida fan? Or does the gator in your name mean something else.

      • gatorhabs says:

When I joined this site, I lived near UF, (when Tebow was the QB).

But, I must admit, I am NOT a football fan. It seemed appropriate at the time.

My Love for the Habs far outweighs any geographical alliegiance I may adopt. Regardless of current results.

        • savethepuck says:

Tebow not doing his magic tonight against the Pats. 42-7

“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”
          Carey Price

          • gatorhabs says:

Like I said, not much of a Football fan.

But, I have a feeling Tebow might have a better chance to score in a shootout than Kaberle.

            That is just my opinion.

  30. slapshot777 says:

Looking forward to seeing Rene Bourque playing tomorrow and planting a big body in front of Lundqvist.

  31. Yeats says:

I think the shootout choices were a pretty good sign that the team is ready to “embrace the tank!”

  32. Stev.R says:

Hey guys, 1 point closer to Grigorenko! I like to watch the the team win, and I feel sad when we lose. But now we have a silver lining to look forward to.

Anyone know the rules about signing undrafted players who are playing in junior? We should go and sign:

Matthew Bissonnette, 6’4”, 200lbs, 20 years old. 33 goals in 45 games. 68 points. Centre. Wouldn’t be a bad guy to have in the system hey?

  33. savethepuck says:

WTF is Cunny thinking with those shootout decision players? Eller I was OK with, but Kaberle and then Max? Kabbie is a pp QB, a set up man, has he been doing things in practice no one is aware of? I love Max, he’s one of my favorites, but I think it’s time to give him the new nickname of the invisible man because that’s what he’s been for the last month and a half. I think he gets a pass on here because of the way he played when called up last year, the way he played early in the season, and the Chara hit, but I used to get excited when he got the puck. Now I don’t expect him to do anything when I see him with the puck. Getting soooooo frustrated, the Habs were by far the better team on the ice tonight, but they can’t win effin hockey games. At least they got a point. but I’m getting sick of saying that.

“They don’t hang Conference Championship Banners from the rafters here”

  34. SmartDog says:

Basically we’re sunk. Gomez made zero difference – a real shocker! (But Cole was a beast tonight… should’ve been 2nd star.) Next year boys, next year! Sell some guys, build the pipeline. This year is finished!

    – Kaberle has a good shoot-out record. A lot of European players you wouldn’t think are good in shoot-outs are better than NA players.
    – Eller scored a beaut on his penalty shot.
    – Patches? I don’t get that one.
…anyway, you can’t win if you don’t score.
Listen to the Smart Dog. He knows his poop!

    • HardHabits says:

What do you mean Gomez didn’t make a difference?

He took comedy of errors to new heights with his discombobulated mishandling of the puck in his own end and his passes off the mark to nowhere!

  35. duffy says:

It would not have mattered who they put out in the shootout ,Anderson would have stopped more shots than Price.

  36. slapshot777 says:

Worst thing about all this is if the Habs do finish at the bottom we not only will have a long summer, but if the NHL strikes we will have to endure a lot longer wait to see hockey again.

  37. dallyd31 says:

no need to search for a coach and GM next year. All the best ones are clearly here at HIO. people here are obviously very well versed on the coaching and managing of HHL teams…and have great knowledge of what goes on in the room.

I vote that people stop complaining about Kaberle and look up his shootout stats.

Heads up Mike, why don’t you just cut and paste anyone of the last 3 ALN’s and save yourself some rest time. Nothing has changed in any of them from todays out come. Change a name here and there ( take out Cammies ) and you don’t have to get up early in the morning.

  43. JF says:

Of course we were never going to win the shootout. But Price was better in it than he usually is. And I actually thought the team gave quite a heroic effort tonight, given everything that has happened recently, the crap officiating, and the lucky bounces that never seem to go our way. They played a very strong defensive game and looked the better team most of the time. I’m hoping that next season, the hockey gods (if there be any such) will redress the balance a bit, and a few of the bad calls will go our way.

  44. hansolo says:

Kaberle was 5/12 before tonight in SOs. As JM would say, “Do your research.”

  45. matt jordan says:

well, with Carolina and the NYI’s winning their games tonight, the Habs are a whole TWO points out of dead last in the east.

The heights this team has reached after that terrible start. They’ve gone from dead last in October all the way up to being two points out of last.

  54. RJ says:

Huh? Kaberle. Not cole, tits, PK, pleky, dd. this team is a disaster.

“My face is my mask,” Gump Worsley

  55. novahab says:

Kaberle are they all smoking crack in the Montreal front office.

  56. Rad says:

Kaberle has a good shootout record, but MaxPac is not a pure sniper and should not be selected in shootouts, at least not yet. He’s more of a garbage goal scorer. As for Eller he hardly played in OT and was cold. My choices were Pleks, Kostitsyn, and Desharnais.

  57. homerbowen says:

In addition to getting bigger perhaps we should also look at players that can score!

  58. topher5468 says:

Pathetic the amount of crying about refs and bettman, How did the refs stop the Habs from scoring a goal in the shootout,

  61. slapshot777 says:

RC, must have gotten a call from JM during the ice cleaning, because he definitely had a brain cramp putting Kaberle out in the shoot out.

  62. Habbu says:

  63. piter says:

that one is on Cunny, for being one!!!!!!!!!!! Kaberle? Kaberle? WTF look who Ottawa put out for the shootout. Now who does Cunny play? No cole. Not even Moen. But Kaberle. Thats our best shot at 2 points. Merde.
