Liveblog: Olympic Games, Game 1: Canada 3, Norway 1

The goaltender of your Montreal Canadiens took centre stage as Canada began defence of the gold medal won in Vancouver four years ago.

Carey Price backstopped Canada to a 3-1 victory over Norway Thursday in its tournament opener at the Sochi Games. Canada plays Austria on Friday at noon ET, when Roberto Luongo will get the start in goal. Canada’s final preliminary-round game will be at noon ET Sunday against Finland.

Canada got goals from Shea Weber, Jamie Benn and Drew Doughty against Norway. Former NHLer Patrick Thoresen scored for Norway. Price stopped 19 of the 20 shots he faced.

Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban was a healthy scratch for the game, along with forward Matt Duchene. Team Canada coach Mike Babcock told reporters in Sochi that Subban and Duchene would both play Friday against Austria.

Thegoal Price let in was a little miscommunication between him and Petro

  2. PrimeTime says:

Strange, eh? The same fans that gripe about the Habs gripe about Team Canada. Coincidence? I think it pretty much says more about them than their teams.

“Fans are entitled to express their opinion, but most of the comments on talk radio and on The Gazette’s Hockey Inside/Out website ranged from the mildly uninformed to the outrageously stupid” – Pat Hickey.

    • D Mex-iCanadian says:

It speaks volumes about who they are, but it’s also as tiresome as hell.

The prime nimrod actually used the “R” word as a descriptor for those who operate Team Canada – I challenged him to name names but he just withdraws and looks for a fresh spot on the lawn to do his business.

You may have noticed that his crusade to see an NHL Coach fired has shifted from Therrien over to Babcock, and he overtly referred to the Habs as crap / crappy. This isn’t fandom by any definition of the word – it’s trolling 101. Who needs this kind of BS ?

      ALWAYS Habs –

  3. Habfan17 says:

Three cheers for team Canada. It started off a little rough, but a win is a win.

On another note, I enjoy some good laughs so I went to Eklund’s Hockey Buzz. According to his rumour chart, the Habs are right behind Buffalo in trying to acquire Evander Kane. What I find funny, is the only Hab on his rumour list is Danny Briere!

We all know the Jets will not be trading Kane for Briere, so how can Eklund have any insider knowledge when He has no other Hab on his list and he says that the Habs are going after Kane!

After watching the Yanks shellack Halak (and Budaj)… I was hoping we’d show a little more offence.

    A win is a win…
