Back home in sunny, warm Montreal, fans will be brewing big pots of black coffee for a game that begins at 9:30 p.m. local time.
There will be bleary-eyed hockey fans at work Friday morning.
But less sleep is a small price to pay for a hockey epic:
The Battle for 28th Place.
An Edmonton win draws them even with the Canadiens at 60 points.
The Oilers have played one fewer game, however, so aW moves them up one spot in the overall league standings … all the way to the dizzying heights of 28th.
Columbus has a lock on 30th, so this game amounts to jockeying for draft lottery position.
Scott Gomez and Aaron Palushaj return from eye injuries, and armchair general managers – yes, there are a few in Montreal – will be asking why Louis Leblanc is in Hamilton to make way for Gomez and Palushaj.

So just what was that disrespectful, cocky, arrogant, yappy punk Subban doing by being unselfish to Pacioretty on that empty netter??? Get rid of him!
It won’t be hard; there’s only 29 other teams that will take him in a heartbeat!!
Funnyhow the liveblog goes nuts when they lose

I think it’s malfunctioning tonight. Also, late game.
Was reading some Malcolm Subban tweets. That guy is a big Habs fan. Let’s draft him.
Full Breezer 4 Life
AND Francois Gagnon on Twitter now trying to defend his season-long Subban-bashing. Can’t believe he gets paid to write about hockey. Seriously, the guy looks like he’d be more at home covering a cooking class.
Full Breezer 4 Life
He’s the kind who writes in a style that’s so obvious in his intention, yet not so obvious to accuse him of such intention.
His article during the trade deadline was: Échanger Subban? Pourquoi pas?. In it he does not specifically ask to trade PK, but rather how and what you should get “shall they trade him”. Yet it’s that headline that really showed his intention to stir things, but he can always counter by saying he never asked to trade PK anywhere in that article.
Yeah, well earlier tonight he talked about Subban’s “indefensible and immature penalty” on a play that was very obviously a bad penalty call, and then back-tracked on his trade suggestion by saying he meant the Habs should trade him for someone good … sorry, but you can’t defend this guy. He just keeps going.
Full Breezer 4 Life
I used to respect him back in the 110% days, but now don’t care too much about his two timing style of journalism in a sheep’s skin.
Toronto is making a play for the draft pick lottery. This could be close. I think the last game of the season is going to determine 25th and 26th place for both the Habs and Leafs.
Francois Gagnon wanted the Habs to trade Subban at the deadline. No joke. Just sayin’. Just sayin’ that guy is a tool, I mean.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Well, if one would trade PK, it would have to be at equal value in return.

… so why trade?
Full Breezer 4 Life
Agreed, I would have been for it if there was someone else on the back end to compensate.

There’s never equal value in any trade in NHL history. You either get something better or worse. And the effects will have to be measured in years.
Great end of game goal by Pacs and Subban and rightly praised by lots here. But if you check the sequence just before.. exceptional defensive play by Subban to prevent tieing goal.
Any chance Max can get 40?
Mr. Biter
No Guts No Glory
Trevor Timmins really knocked the shit out of that 2007 draft. Two picks in the first round and he snagged Pacioretty and McDonagh (doh).
And obviously, PK in the second round!!
Full Breezer 4 Life
Fire Timmins!!
…oops, sorry. Wrong thread.
HAHAHAHA!
Full Breezer 4 Life
If everyone goes after the season, I hope we still keep Timmins.
He’s drafted really well.
don’t fire him!
I believe we also have one of the smallest scouting staffs in the NHL. Crazy considering MTL could afford the largest
Waw, exactly a year later and he gets 30.
How does this stuff happen?
Amazing!
Take that Bruins! we got a 30 goal guy on our hands.
FU Chara!
BTW Pleks should play like that all the time! He had a good game.
Props to Gomez, He played great.
habs17 did you watch the game? Are you awake?
Go Habs! Go Pac!
Kardashians, mink lined bitches, get it?
Someone who got the dig. Congrats.
Mr. Biter

I wouldn’t be surprised if Max got 40. Who the eff needs Stamkos.
On to Vancouver, but first…sleep.
yes take note of my profile pic..I am to a Viggo fan
For the love of God, would someone…an equipment manager…anyone…get Lars Eller a helmet that doesn`t lead do his forehead eventually imploding..

LOL. I think this red mark on his forehead is going to be permanent.

Kardashians? I don’t get the reference at all.
They bitch a lot.

And this too:
“Mortensen, who won a best supporting actor trophy for his turn as a cigar-chomping Sigmund Freud in Cronenberg’s “A Dangerous Method,” provided one of the show’s highlights by proudly displaying his hockey fanaticism.
The lanky actor drew enthusiastic cheers by unfurling a Montreal Canadiens flag onstage during his acceptance speech and later draping it over his statue.
“It’s a very beautiful trophy and I think in order to cross the border safely I’ll have to wrap it very, very carefully so I brought some very strong material with me,” Mortensen said as he unfolded the red, white and blue fabric to hoots from appreciative hockey fans.
“I think this will do nicely. I said ‘I thank David Cronenberg’ but I dedicate this award to the Montreal Canadiens. We’ll be back next year with a vengeance. Thank you very much.”

Nice story. Gotta love the passion.
Haha, nice. Hopefully the Habs will be back next year with a vengeance!
It’s easy to feel good for max. Good on him.
PK is an awesome team guy. Love his enthusiasm.

That was an important moment: he recognized Pacioretty was coming down the wing and one goal away from 30 … perfect dish.
People who criticize this guy are just plain ignorant.

So where are the people calling him selfish, now? Seriously though, that was a really nice thinkg to do.
Haha… Price pulls a Chara on Subban and leaves him hanging.

Nice play by Subban, Habs got a 30 goal scorer in Pacs!
Hope Desharnais is okay.
Now, on to Vancouver to get creamed.
Nice of you, PK!
So what our chances of making playoffs now? Is the chase back on?
In all seriousness, they could make the playoffs if they won every game from here on out. Ok, maybe one OT loss.
Full Breezer 4 Life
We have a 0.038% chance of making the playoffs.
If we win every game we have an 85% chance.
If we have one ot loss we have a 54% chance.

Subban, Gorges, Emelin, Weber, Kaberle, Campoli, Diaz, St.Denis, Wiz, Hamrlik, Spacek, Mara, Sopel, Nash
But im stuck on the others.

Woywitka, Festerling, Gill?
Oh yah Gill :S lol….. I think they meant regualr season, Woywitka never played in reg season, nor did festerling
Mathieu Schneider ?
I think Schnieder was 09-10.
And we did not re-sign him because Gainey did not re-sign players with severe injuries going int UFA. Vancouver signed him and he looked good playing with the Moose after the Canucks sent him down as he never recouvered from his knee injury. Does it remind you about someone we have in the same situtation?

RDS reporting pulled muscle.
Pleks is playing considerably better tonight. Look what he does with actual wingers
Boone speaks! And the Habs have the lead!!!
IT’S THE APOCALYPSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
***Subbang Baby!!!***
I’m not sleepy anymore. Great game!
Lars Eller has now almost reached my predicted goal total for this season (16).
Scott Gomez? Not so much.
And is it just me or has Palushaj been playing about every second shift? At least they are giving the kids some ice time tonight, which is all that you can do to salvage something out of this garbage time part of the season.
“Et le but!”
Obviously, the Oilers have been at this a lot longer than we have. They know what they’re doing and I like how seamless they make it look.
Theo Peckham is a dead give-away. Not buying their tank stylings.
Dude can sure take a penalty.
Considerably better pp? Kaberle has helped improve it from 29th to 28th.
30th to 28th
Since Kaberle joined the team, the PP is at 19%, as opposed to 12% before.
Full Breezer 4 Life
But, the Canes will turn Spacek into an asset at the deadline!
The asset is cap space. And while Bill’s post indicates how hard it is to improve pp %, let’s also not forget that since he arrived, them team has probably been playing around .390
A great powerplay doesn’t equal a great team. Habs are playing living proof of that tonight.
___________________________________________________
Being a Hab fan is like buying real estate: only over the long-haul will you appreciate the true value of your investment.
Cap space has been irrelevant this season, and if Marek Zidlicky (1 year @ 4M left) can be traded for Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux, defenseman Kurtis Foster, a second round pick in 2013 and a conditional third round pick in 2013, then Kaberle can be traded for picks/prospects i.e. cap space.
^^ You’re implying that the Habs winning percentage is entirely attributable to Kaberle? Um, you don’t even believe that.
Also, I don’t believe that is their actual winning percentage with Kaberle in the line-up, but I’m not doing any math tonight.
Full Breezer 4 Life
Mark: don’t you think mtl tried to move kaberle at tg deadline? Cap space won’t be irrelevant next year if he still sucks
Bill: I’m also not doing math. But that’s RC’s, I believe (someone posted it). So kaberles would be about the same. Regardless, I just don’t want him on my team. I don’t want any player that needs to be sheltered as much he is. He does so much wrong that I find it hard to justify the right that he brings.
There is a TSN article that wants me to return it’s hook, line and sinker.
If you separate the time with and time without, you will see a BIG difference. If he was included in all the games at the same pace, we would be 13th to 15th.
