Canadiens prospect Louis Leblanc is facing four to six months of rehab after arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday determined a shoulder injury was worse than first thought, according to reports.
The surgery was done in Pensacola, Fla., by renowned surgeon James Andrews.
Leblanc was injured during the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season, but played through the injury until the Montreal Juniors were eliminated from the postseason in the second round.
Had the injury not been as severe, the Pointe Claire native would have only needed four to six weeks of rehab.
If Leblanc, the Canadiens first choice, 18th overall, in the 2009 NHL entry draft, misses the minimum four month, he would be ready to participate in training camp in September. A six-month rehab means he will be out of action until November.
In his first season with the Juniors, he recorded 26 goals and 32 assists in 51 games. The 20-year-old also won a silver medal at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship with Team Canada.
Leblanc to miss 4 to 6 months: report

I hope Lablanc’s rehab will allow him to bulk up another 20 pounds…at 178 Lbs. he is far to light to make it in the NHL anytime soon. He needs to bulk up to provide protection of his body from further injury.
How have the Red Wings maintained their excellence for like Two Decades, especially with no high draft picks, going from the Yzerman-Federov era to the Datsyuk -Zetterberg era…
Isn’t that one of Canadiens fans main excuses, that “We don’t drafhigh”?? Guess it doesnt matter to some teams that know what they’re doing.
Hopefully Leblanc has a strong recovery, he should still easily play the majority of the AHL season, maybe missing 10 games.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
So he’s going to be playing with the Dog’s this season? any other prospects going to be playing with the Dog’s ?
Phillippe Lefebvre and Alain Berger are possibilities, but one or both may get sent to the ECHL as well.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
It will be interesting to see if Joe and the boys pull off another monumental choke.
aaaaaccccckkkkkk!!!!
Strangest playoffs in recent memory.
For the second time this season, the almost impossible is at hand. And the last impossible went to freakin’ game 7 OT.
San Jose was totally outclassed tonight. If they go down day after tomorrow, it won’t necessarily be Joe’s fault, but, as it was with Luongo against the Hawks, it’s gonna hang on him for the rest of his career.
How’s that for incentive?
Hopin’ the Wings take it. A franchise one can’t help but like.
Datsyuk kinda gettin’ into a fight. Wow. Next thing you know, Cammy’ll be squarin’ off against Krejci.
When all is said and done, SubBANG, baby!
“Like” is a strong word. How about envious?

GO RED WINGS! I’ve never liked the Sharks for some reasons. Too bad, we don’t have a player like Datsyuk on our team.
Is this petty?
I don’t want the Wings to win the series because it will somehow lessen the Bruins’ recent collapse.
I can appreciate what you’re sayin’, but there are simply too many reasons to like the Wings in my opinion, to let that get in the way. Besides, I have always disliked the Sharks.
So, petty? Yes. But, understandable.
I’d kinda just wanna watch Datsyuk for a bit longer
What collapse?
—Hope Springs Eternal—
Without fail, walk into my bar to watch with the Wings again for the 3rd period, and my karma helps Datsyuk. Actually, watching the Wings as a non-expert, it kinda looks like The System but with waaaay better forwards
Datsuyk really is an unsung hero in the NHL.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
Not unsung but maybe not sung loud enough.
Remember the old saw about Euros not willing to suffer in the playoffs?
I think a lot of it is because of his personality, just look how he acts after scoring, every kid should want to be like him, but it doesnt sell.
Also, there is no cap on organizational positions, Habs should just throw bags of money and hakan andersson.
Wings. Man they are something.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
They refuse to die.
Great finish. That decides it for me. Wings all the way this year!
***Subbang Baby!!!***
I agree.
This is the team I want to see beat the Bruins; strong, talented, no quit, tough as nails, excellent coaching and timely goal tending.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
I’d cheer any team against the Bruins.
And I love their uniforms.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
Me too!
Ohhhh. Detroit!
Me too!
Hey this belonged up there.
beyond secondary scoring on our team the second biggest problem in the playoffs was that while other teams d can pinch and cause problems we had spacek, hammer, gill, sopel and mara who have very limited pinching skills because of their age and speed…boston d killed us with their pinching
So, if Yemelin is on his way, does that mean the Wiz is off the docket? Or does that exclude Gill?
A D with Markov/Yemelin
Subban/ Gill
Gorges/Spacek looks good to me. Or… Markov/Yemelin
Subban/ Gorges
Wiz/Spacek
I’d say Hammer is gone.
Markov/ Subban
Gorges/Gill
Wiz/ Emelin
Spacek/Weber
I had already left Hammer out, he’s gone I figure too.
I’d love to see them start the year with that 8, but I am not sure they can afford them all. I guess it depends on what Meehan negotiates for Yemelin.
Ya, it’s hard to say what will happen. The suspense is killing me though.
As long as we have enough cap space for Jagr, Kovalev and Saku Koivu.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
I hear Donald Audette is contemplating a comeback.
Penguins
Jagr-Lang-Kovalev
best 4th line in the NHL lol.
I’d like to see Weber come back, he’s young and I’m sure he’d come cheap.
I want Yemelin/Emelin signed if only to end the years of confusion over how to spell his name.
It’s spelled Емелин, Алексей

You need a lot more than Laich to improve this team–I guess we have to start somewhere. it will probably be the same old story. bring in players other teams don’t want…..
I guarantee you there are many teams that would want Brooks Laich. What’s wrong with adding a guy who’s 6’2, over 200lbs, can play C, W and play the penalty kill while scoring 20+ goals and around 50 points?
I suppose we have a ton of those on our team right now, right? Laich is also known as one of the few character players on the Caps’ team.
If you want to add better players than Laich, you’ll either have to pay a whole lot more dollars for a UFA (and there aren’t many good ones available) or you’ll have to give up several assets in a trade to acquire someone from another team, and even then you will most likely have to pay a lot more dollars.
Great game brewing in Detroit, goes to show you dont need 9 goals and endless PPs to create excitement.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
10 minor penalties (a couple coincidental) in half a game isn’t exactly the refs putting the whistles away. A few cheap shots too.
***Subbang Baby!!!***
As soon as I typed that; there was a chincy goalie interference call lol
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
Haha…but it’s quite a game. Nothing like playoff hockey to get the heart racing.

Welcome to the newer NHL: The National Head-shots League.
NO JAGR!!! Let’s go younger with the rest of the league!
what is wrong with most people? even in your fantasy teams is loaded with small or soft players.have u watch any game last year or shall i say years.this team is small,and/or soft with a few exeption no one can hit or fight. i think this team has no more room for small player.so either dd or gomez,3rd and 4th is only 2 guys who can fight and we need at least 2 more guys like white and moen.i am sick and tired to see get hit and bang around and there is no one to answer.and that defence .r u kidding me,still the same story.no one can hit, crushing hit ,the kind of defence that any forward think two times to crash the net.we need at least two guys over there too to replace emelin and gill.yes gill.subban will be very fine with josh.markov and wis has to have big, strong (komisarak type)player to pair with.
Was fooling around with capgeek, and came up with this:
CAPGEEK.COM CAP CALCULATOR
FORWARDS
Mike Cammalleri ($6.000m) / Tomas Plekanec ($5.000m) / Brooks Laich ($4.000m)
Max Pacioretty ($1.750m) / Scott Gomez ($7.357m) / Brian Gionta ($5.000m)
Travis Moen ($1.500m) / Lars Eller ($1.270m) / Andrei Kostitsyn ($3.250m)
Mathieu Darche ($0.750m) / David Desharnais ($0.550m) / Ryan White ($0.550m) / Yannick Weber ($0.750m)
DEFENSEMEN
Andrei Markov ($5.500m) / Alexei Emelin ($1.750m)
Hal Gill ($1.500m) / P.K. Subban ($0.875m)
Josh Gorges ($3.000m) / James Wisniewski ($5.000m)
/ Jaroslav Spacek ($3.833m)
GOALTENDERS
Carey Price ($2.750m) / Alex Auld ($0.850m)
BUYOUTS: Georges Laraque ($0.500m)
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $63,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,286,309; BONUSES: $400,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $113,691
Keep in mind, this takes into consideration a $4 million increase in the cap. Also, Emelin’s contract would be a 2-way entry level deal with maximum bonuses. This would be the most likely scenario in which he comes over.
Now, before people freak out about Emelin appearing on the top pairing with Markov, keep in mind that I would think JM would play all 3 pairings fairly equal minutes. That defense would be pretty solid. You have 3 defensive guys and 3 offensive guys (although Markov and PK are more 2-way D-men). You add some toughness with Emelin. You keep Wiz. Weber can slot in on fourth line to give us PP point tandems of Pk-Wiz and Markov-Weber.
Obivously, this is close to the cap, but I’m guessing a trade would be made (maybe Moen packaged or something.) Laich would add size with some skill.
What do you guys think?
I know I’ve posted this kind of thing before, but I’m really itching to see what PG is going to do. I feel we can really improve our team this summer.
Would the Caps not re-sign Laich?
And why are we bringing back Moen?
Also I hope we can do better than Auld. The reason Carey played so much is that Auld is simply not trustworthy. He’s so shakey he could be a starter in Philly.
Good one, like that so shakey he could be a starter in Philly. Oh it appears that gift will keep giving forever in philly!
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
It’s possible that Laich tests the market. Depends on what direction the Caps want to go. Maybe he wants to leave. Who knows? It’s all speculation at this point. As for Moen, well, he is under contract, so he is back unless we trade him, which is what I suggested we do. Auld may not be the best backup around, but he seems to get along well with Price, and he actually put up decent numbers for a guy who never got to play on a consistent basis.
For those saying this lineup is too small, need I remind you this lineup I posted is actually bigger and better, with more offensive depth and more defensive mobility than the lineup that came within one goa of knocking off the Big Bad Bruins.
bigger may be but not tougher
How is adding Laich and Emelin not getting tougher?
We will also be tougher by having Ryan White and Max Pacioretty for the WHOLE season. I don’t disagree that we need to get tougher, but I don’t see it the same way you do. Everyone said we weren’t tough enough to hang with the Bruins, and we could have won that series quite easily with a bit more luck in the overtime games.
Good points but you got to have some toughness (Moen), and youd have to replace him with someone similar…This could be a case of the devil you know is better than the devil you dont know.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
Markov only if the Habs sign a big bruising stay at home defence man to make sure no one takes liberties with him.
Small, but DD is an RFA and will likely make more than 550, albeit not much, also White made more this year at the NHL level and thus will probably be in the 600-900 range.
Tom Pyatt was on a similar deal to White’s and now makes 500K. Ryan White and Desharnais would likely take whatever deal the Habs throw at them if they are guaranteed to be with the big club all year. White will not make more than 700K and I doubt Desharnais will either.
Signing Price and Subban the following year will be tough with those salaries.
No GM with any sense would spend to within $112K to the cap limit before the season started. Any injuries would seriously handicap the team.
So he’ll miss the 1st half of the season or less. It’s better than Gomez missing all of the season.

Realistically, 10 games tops considering the AHL schedule.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.
Oh cry me a frickin’ river – poor Flyers

Live by the cheap shot. Die by the cheap shot. All I can say is, good. Kharma is a bitch.
My heart bleeds. Heart surgery should be at the top of the list for those stiffs.
Yeah, really. And they accuse the Habs of making excuses. Looks good on em!
I didn’t see the injury list including a lobotomy for Bobby Clarke and Holmgren, the two idiots who think a cardboard cutout in net is all they need.
Great Effort Boys, PG get to work this Summer!
This shouldn’t affect his development much. He was going to be in Hamilton anyway, and missing a few months shouldn’t make much of a difference.
