Canadiens prospect Louis Leblanc will undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday, according to published reports.
The surgery will be done in Pensacola, Fla., by James Andrews, the same surgeon who operated on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
Leblanc was injured several weeks ago, and played through the injury during the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League postseason with the Montreal Juniors.
The arthroscopic surgery will determine the severity of the injury and how long Leblanc will need to rehab the shoulder. Recovery time could be as little as four weeks, but if the injury is more serious, Leblanc could miss between four and six months of action.
Leblanc was the Canadiens first choice, 18th overall, in the 2009 NHL entry draft.
In his first season with the Juniors, he recorded 26 goals and 32 assists in 51 games. The Pointe Claire native also won a silver medal at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship with Team Canada.

have used the ‘ Injury’ excuse for everything, especially not winning, but according to NHL.com, for the last TEN Years, Montreal has suffered the Fifth Fewest games lost due to injury, manpower wise. They played most of the season as the most injured team in the league. Hindsight is 20/20, and remember that every team can point to grievous errors and oversights in their drafting. RYDER too is a third liner in Boston. Five years ago he was centred by KOIVU on our top line.

Who advertised him as “the next Mike Richards”? The only person I’ve ever heard use that comparison is Louis Leblanc himself, who merely said he models his game after Richards’. Doesn’t mean he’ll be as good as him.
I think Leblanc can be a very useful player for the Habs. I don’t expect him to be a superstar though. Give him time.
Also, if this guy was able to be more than point-per-game player in the Q and an effective player at the World Juniors with a bum shoulder, that is a good sign to me.

Good player, not big enough to play a very physical game. Needs to learn to be more slippery, hopefully not the hard way. He will get his chance to be a hab in 2 or 3 years.
