Leblanc to have shoulder surgery

Canadiens prospect Louis Leblanc will undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday, according to published reports.

The surgery will be done in Pensacola, Fla., by James Andrews, the same surgeon who operated on New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Leblanc was injured several weeks ago, and played through the injury during the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League postseason with the Montreal Juniors.

The arthroscopic surgery will determine the severity of the injury and how long Leblanc will need to rehab the shoulder. Recovery time could be as little as four weeks, but if the injury is more serious, Leblanc could miss between four and six months of action.

Leblanc was the Canadiens first choice, 18th overall, in the 2009 NHL entry draft.

In his first season with the Juniors, he recorded 26 goals and 32 assists in 51 games. The Pointe Claire native also won a silver medal at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship with Team Canada.

    Montreal fans since
have used the ‘ Injury’ excuse for everything, especially not winning, but according to NHL.com, for the last TEN Years, Montreal has suffered the Fifth Fewest games lost due to injury, manpower wise. What fowards do we have that were really both injured and a star calibre player, ala, Malkin and Crosby in Pittsburgh. Now, there’s a team that can bi..h about injuries. Pleaseee. Stop being enablers to the losing.

  4. cournoyer12 says:

Just for the record, Nothing Montreal does or touches will be good for years to come. The Gainey hiring was a fiasco, this team has been mismanaged for two decades from the top down, terrible drafts, poor trades and free agent signings are a total joke. Plekanec is a playoff bust, a regular Claude Rains and Scott Blowmez is as bad a trade for the money you could ever imagine, and Those are our Top Two centers, YIKES!! Gainey saw the ship he built, and jumped off like the rat he is…Kostitsyn over stars like Mike Richards, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry in that draft, helllppp!! And we give Grabovski away for nothing, how many Habs scored 30 goals like he did last year.?? Nice backup to Carey Price in Auld, what a joke, and BTW What is Price’s playoff record in Montreal, something like 3-11 Hmmm. This team will soon be passed by the Leafs, and it will all go downhill from there, The once mighty Canadiens, like the dinosaurs…Almost extinct now…Habasaurus Defectus…

if you are not a fan why post on thsi site?

    • aroma says:

I suggest you post to a site where the others, like you, have no idea what they are talking about. Habs were one bounce away from playing Washington in the 2nd round. They played most of the season as the most injured team in the league. Hindsight is 20/20, and remember that every team can point to grievous errors and oversights in their drafting. So take a pill, chill, and think before you post. Or post elsewhere.

    • HabitantQuebec says:

Cournoyer12 you are cute! You actually believe that a team like the Toronto No Playoffs Maple Leafs can compete with the Habs? Ha ha! Habs have always been superior to the Leafs – thats simply a fact. Leafs just had two seasons where they almost ended last in both! Ha ha. Get a f…… Grip!

Had a few beers… now ready to share my real thoughts about PG. jk

Too bad about Leblanc. Hope he recovers well. For some reason, in my head, I’m trying to compare this guy to Eller… which is probably not even a fair thing to do.

I don’t know, I’m sure he can be an NHler…. well…. I guess we’re saying the same thing about Pouliot.

    NIght folks.

  7. JD_ says:

Good on the ‘Nucks, tonight. They were the better team and dominated when it mattered, somethin’ which cannot be said for the series as a whole.

The Sedins will have to take it up a big notch if they wanna make it through the WCF; Kesler cannot possibly be expected to do everythin’. That kid is monster material; sacrifices the body. Daniel and Henrik have to look to his example. Ok, they don’t have to, but they better.

On that note, Henrik really enjoyed chattin’ with the CBC’s Scott Russell after the game. Big time.

Don’t care one whit how any former Hab on either team played, be it good, bad, or otherwise. Reason? Generally speakin’, former Habs play either good, bad, or otherwise. Selective perception takes care of the rest.

There is nothin’ in pro sport quite like playoff hockey.

    Nothin’, baby!

too bad for sk74. weak effort though. i remember that kinda effort in montreal. he had a pretty bad series he showed a few things but overall it wasnt that good. SHEA WEABER come here please. lets pray.

Vancouver’s little run is over. they are not ready for whats coming. they didnt crush chicago, they didnt crush the preds. that kind of effort will not get it done against either detroit or san jose.

ill take Bieska or erroff any day of the week. and #20 looks pretty good too.

    • HabFanSince72 says:

      San Jose? Maybe Detroit.

Also, don’t underestimate the Preds’ ability to shut down other teams. The Nucks will have more offence against their next opponents.

      Unfortunately so will that opponent.

      • Jonson says:

yeah but even against chicago. chicago was in a lot of those games too and forced a game seven. i know the preds are awesome but when you are the top team in the league than who should be able to step up. SEdins were terrible. im just they arent prepared for the next round.

  10. avatar_58 says:

Triple OT for the bulldogs. Wow

  11. G-Man says:

After watching tonight and paying extra attention when SK, aka The Invisible Floater™, was on the ice, I must say I’m impressed…with PG for getting rid of that slacker. I mean, Holy Crap did he mess the bed.

Kesler is the de facto Captain Canuck as they head to the semis. I don’t think they will be able to pull off that rope-a-dope style against the Sharks, but kudos to them for being there.

  12. habs001 says:

sk74 would be a 8-12 goal scorer with us…geoffrion looks to lack hockey sense…combine our 3rd and 4th lines with theirs we would have a team that might score under 82 goals lol

  13. Buh-bye Nashville. Put up a good fight.

I don’t see the Nucks going to the Cup finals though. Especially with the way the Sedins are playing.

  14. HabFanSince72 says:

After seeing that I’m not missing Sergei.

  15. avatar_58 says:

Damn, should have gone to this bulldogs game. I was contemplating it but things came up

  16. ari says:

where can i watch bulldogs? i could not find on justin.tv

  17. HabFanSince72 says:

Chris Pronger has a herniated disk in his back. This could end his career. Unfortunately the Flyers will be stuck with his $5M cap hit for another 6 years if he retires.

  18. HabFanSince72 says:

Sedins have the worst +/- of the playoffs.

    Both are -1 tonight.

  19. showey47 says:

Bulldogs and moose tied 1-1 going into overtime in game 7.

  20. BKAK72 says:

HIGGINS barely hits the third line in Vancouver and likely wouldn’t make it past the fourth line if it weren’t for the injury to Molholtra (sp?). Three years ago he was a starting FWD centred by KOIVU on our top line.

RYDER too is a third liner in Boston. Five years ago he was centred by KOIVU on our top line.

It makes me appreciate just how good KOIVU was to put up those kind of numbers offensively playing with such garbage FWDs.

Sorry for bringing this up on a hockey blog but –

If you are against gay marriage you ARE a bigot Todd. Sorry. “it’s wrong” he says then claims he doesn’t hate. So what other logical, because thats all that’s important here – logic, reason do you have to oppose it? Because your “religion” tells you to? Grow your own brain for a minute buddy.

    • Duracell3 says:

At first I was like, who is Todd, then I read the article.

And I’m still like, who is todd. Guy is such a joke I’m amazed TSN thought it noteworthy enough for an article. Might as well pull a random guy off the street and get his opinion.

    • 1010 says:

For the record I’m not against any marriage. But your opinion, Avatar, sounds like you’ve got some hate issues of your own going on.

Remind me again when Leblanc played for the Habs?

People need to relax. He played well battling through a shoulder injury. He’s getting it fixed in the offseason. What’s the problem?

  25. LL says:

Rinne went down too early. Tsk. 😉

  26. Bill says:

Leblanc was not going to start the season with the Habs anyway, so if he misses the start of the season, it’s for the Bulldogs.

Leblanc is not going to be an “impact” NHL player, so I’m surprised that some people are treating this like a disaster. Hey, the injury might not even be that bad!

    Full Breezer 4 Life

    • punkster says:

You know the worst of it? I ate too much butter chicken tonight and my stomach is upset. THE END IS NIGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freakin’ wussies we got on this site Bill. Every little hiccup and it’s the fault of BG, PG, JM and the angry hockey gods.

      ***Subbang Baby!!!***

    • ProHabs says:

This guy better be an impact player William. The team better not have wasted a first round pick on an average player. This guy was advertised as the next Mike Richards, he better be just as good or better. I want to be screaming “Loooooouuuuuuuuuu” at the Bell Center for the next 15 years.

      • Jan_pronounced_Yan says:

Right, because every single 18th overall pick in the history of the NHL draft has turned out to be an impact player for the team that drafted him.

Who advertised him as “the next Mike Richards”? The only person I’ve ever heard use that comparison is Louis Leblanc himself, who merely said he models his game after Richards’. Doesn’t mean he’ll be as good as him.

I think Leblanc can be a very useful player for the Habs. I don’t expect him to be a superstar though. Give him time.

Also, if this guy was able to be more than point-per-game player in the Q and an effective player at the World Juniors with a bum shoulder, that is a good sign to me.

  27. vera says:

we have not even started the season for 2011.2012 & already have an injury……………We have to have the weakest players on earth. when are we going to get some BIG BODIES GAUTHIER?????? Wake up MOLSON DO SOMETHING. Also Molson do not let go of MULLER for the love of God

  28. greggiemchabfan says:

Played through a shoulder injury..sounds tough enough to me.

  29. derfab says:

Good player, not big enough to play a very physical game. Needs to learn to be more slippery, hopefully not the hard way. He will get his chance to be a hab in 2 or 3 years.

  30. HardHabits says:

Something tells me this is just the start a more bad news for Habs fans.

  31. Timo says:

Another Hab injured. I am shocked.
