MONT TREMBLANT – Canadiens forward Georges Laraque and defenceman Roman Hamrlik both skated at St. Jovite Arena this morning, Laraque alone with strength and conditioning coordinator Scott Livingston, Hamrlik with the full squad.
No firm word on the return to action of either, both healing groin injuries. Laraque hasn’t played a game this preseason and is being pencilled in to start the regular season; Hamrlik played a period and a couple shifts in the team’s first exhibition a week ago last Monday in Halifax and head coach Guy Carbonneau said his return might be decided tomorrow after practice or Saturday after the morning skate.
Defenceman Francis Bouillon did not accompany the team north for two days of practice and lazing about – and there will be more of the latter than the former. Bouillon was limping after Wednesday’s 3-1 Bell Centre victory over Boston.
Some 500 manic fans screamed throughout the practice, student from a neighbouring school being cycled through the rink. Hilarious to see kids leaning over the low glass and swatting the helmet – hard – of Tom Kostopoulos. Presumably they meant well.
Audio from loads of players and Carbo to come later in the day.

+27 Here in Calgary… It’s this this hot this late in the year. I’m loving it.
HabsProf, thanks for bringing up Ribs for that duffer Niinimaa”hope I never have to spell that again!”OUCH!!!That felt worse than today’s cortisone shot!lol And now I’m having flashbacks of Niinimaa playing power forward, that’s it I’m grabbing a beer……
Robert, email sent regarding the Summit raffle.

In addition to that, Joe Biden came off as a very intelligent man who knows of what he speaks. This being the first time I’ve heard him speak at length, I was very impressed with him.
Now the Canadian debate, I was very impressed with Elizabeth May as she made clear points on specific topics. Duceppe was his usual obnoxious rambling self, Layton was Layton and Dion came off better than what he is portrayed as.

She strikes me as someone whose better suited for PTA politics, not world politics.

Everything looks great for a good season, and hopefully the 25th cup… and I think we have a good chance, well, even more than just “good”. Meanwhile. I already worry about our capacity to keep our guys over time, actually I wonder if the cap is realistic for franchises like Montreal — who could probably sell out the O — and why we have to suffer because the rest either can or cannot manage. It is not just about money here, since we can obviously pay. Yeah, yeah, I know, we do not have to become the Yankees — well we do not have the same tradition of capitalism, we are just better and smarter and Montrealers recognize value — but when we have all this talent long wished and dreamed for, imagine how quickly it can just vanish. Just ask Buffalo and Ottawa. Bob Gainey has a lot to think about, though admittedly for me, I would rather think about managing a hockey franchise than what I do…. neither is very easy.
Go boys.
PS.
It is all about the game. I watched Max in Ottawa last game and there were times when he struggled with positioning and balance. I watched him in the corner abit and he was comfortable there leaning on, I think he is just still abit awkward on his skates, he’s still growing really. Potential = LeClair or more, big and has the touch. The SO the other night, well. Put him right out in the limelight, first shot, full house, Bostonia. That is what the coach did. I wondered, and then you all saw what he did………
Chipchura will 100% be our fourth line center. That’s a fact!
Teacher, where’s the bashing?
Overexposure is a tricky thing.
I’m no Avery fan, but great read, made me laugh too.
haha..happy you talked about it. I don’t like Avery but it was a really good interview.
4 years would be a fairly conservative estimate.

I like it!

New sig imo..
What is tonight?
This isn’t going to make me like Sean Avery, but it still made me laugh — and it’s in the Globe and Mail no less:
NHL tough guy Sean Avery reopened his feud with Don Cherry this week by stating the CBC commentator knows next to nothing about hockey.
“He’s a staple as far as Canadian hockey goes,” Avery said during interview on the CBC’s The Hour. “And I grew up watching Coach’s Corner, and he serves a purpose.
“But he really does not know shit about hockey.
“He knows, like, unnecessary facts about putting Sears catalogues on your shin pads.”
Host George Stroumboulopoulos interjected with, “No, no, no.”
“He says a lot of things,” continued Avery. “He calls people by their wrong names. And it’s just, like, enough of this guy.”

Tonight is a big night. Will tell us a lot about the next 4 years.

Hey everyone,
I know that there are quite a few people on here who are out west.
Another poster (Habfan in Canuckland) brought up the idea of a mini Habs summit here in Vancouver to go see them hammer the Canucks in February.
How many people would be interested in this idea??
Please let me or “Habfan in Canuckland” know so we can all start trying to organize it!
Contact either Habfan in Canuckland or myself: check contact info.
(Sorry to keep bugging people about this, but I think within the next week or so once we have an idea of the numbers, we can update everyone on what the ideas could be…feel free to send your suggestions)
lol!
Ex nihilo nihil fit
11 – I’ll take the Cube any day cuz of heart and i’ll use the 1.75 million and put it aside for Sundin.
Dandy is as good as Franky and others, he will help the team as an extra D man. He looked solid in pre-season even when paired with a rook. Better defensive defenseman than the Breezer too.
Excellent article and idea. Unfortunately, with the state of the current NHL ‘braintrust’ it’ll be 2050 by the time they get their act together and realize that we fans don’t all live within the broadcast zones of their patchwork network or are willing to pay porno-priced per game prices to watch jerky, low-res streaming. I mean, even CBC-sports (for whom I rarely have a good word these days) got it right, streaming all of their telecasts for free. It’s time for an English-language Habs.tv… Anyone have George Gillette’s telephone number?
B – Contact Robert L and i’m sure he will try to accomodate you , he’s firming the head count now.
On that Bouillon note this week coming up may be interesting as teams access their rosters and injuries before the day the 23 man roster is filed. Gainey may not be satisfied with his depth at ‘D’. I’m not saying Gainey going to be out of his rocking chair to often over the cuts by other teams but if there’s a fit for depth ‘D’ i’m sure he’ll consider it as Valentenko is raw and not ready and Carle is a question mark with that concussion and Weber is not experienced and one dimensional for now and another reliable ‘D’ in Hamilton wouldn’t hurt. Bob has to cut down also with the help of his staff, Dandy ???$$$$???$$$
I guess if you break Chris Chelios’s leg you can’t go on the retreat.
I think he means the U.S. vice-presidential debate. And he’s right — tonight could have a huge impact…

hey andrew — since i could not make it to montreal count me in if you can handel a rowdy saskatchewan boy
They should’ve gone training out here in Sasky… +25 C all week. Nice little Indian Summer we’re having.
Sears catalogues? Bah! When we were young, all we had to use for shinpads were wimpy little National Geographics!

does it get tougher than Impossible? If you didn’t have a spot booked by 2 weeks ago, you are S.O.L. Unless you want to attempt a 4-6 hour wait for a walk on. I love golf, but not that much.
I just noticed caut , senior moment , i should have checkeed.
Also, Venus is aligned with Uranus, and Dandy parted his hair on the left side today, signalling that Gainey will trade him and a bag of pucks for Ovechkin and the Caps’ zamboni.

He’s nothing if not entertaining.

hey guys vote for favourite centennial jersey:

The lines and D are pretty much set, barring more injuries. Price and Halak look prepared. The extra bodies are chomping at the bit. I can’t wait for the 100th season to begin!

2008/09 is the season of the Habs
For those that did not catch it yesterday, there is an update at the Summit tab. We are needing responses from the e-mails I sent today for a head count for the Bell Centre tour. There is other news as well.

Interesting article on TSN about how players across the league consider Big Georges to be the top heavyweight in the NHL.

is it too late to sign up for summit activities? I have my own tix to the game, but I’d love to meet some of the folks from the online home of the habs!
For anyone interested, there is an awesome hockey card show at Centre Pierre Charbonneau in Montreal Oct 24, 25, 26 (the weekend of the HIO summit). I have no affiliation with it, but I’ll be there, as will Carey Price, Andrei & Sergei Kostitsyn and more!
I’m really getting curious as to what will happen with Patches. I thought for sure he was Hamilton bound even after his great game. Now….not so sure.

Sure thing, the more the merrier! I have a couple of rowdy ‘Toon buddies (none of which are here in Vancouver anymore) but I’ll post something later on once we have figured out whats going on and if we need more info from people.
cheers
Actually two debates 1) US Vice-Pres. debate with hockey mom 2) Leaders debate in Canada in english, now back to hockey.
Nice that Hammer is back practicing with the team, not so nice that Bouillon is hurt. What is Markov’s status, is he injured or not? did he practice with the team today?
I like how Ed Belfour’s webpage is listed right beneath Sidney Crosby’s. I laughed out loud after I clicked on Eddie’s link.
Well, he’s the best player…..
http://www.barragecafe.com/sports/
Dallas Stars shored their depth on ‘D’ by picking up Doug Janik off of waivers from Chicago.
Calling him Cindy would be a type of bash?
God I hope the Americans vote Obama, Palin is NOT impressing in the slightest.
http://www.barragecafe.com/sports/
thanks, i could not remember, i got him now.
So that justifies all the focus on him, all the time? Plenty of other talented folks to share the spotlight, no?
I’m no Crosby basher, he’s a supremely skilled player, but he’s been shoved in my face since he was 16 and yah, I’m with you Sith, I’ve got Sid Fatigue.
Matt, where the heck is PG. No wonder you have a hard time understanding how you develop and build an organisation. Promote from within. Sure your not a leaf, that’s how they build consistent losers.
Ian – Janik played with Buffalo when they went deep in the playoffs a few years back when they had all those injuries on defence. Last few years he played for Tampa Bay and i’m just pointing out that teams are firming up their depth with players that don’t make the 23 man rosters of other teams.
Bryan–I know the name, but not much more than that.
Yeah, looks like a possible reason Webber is going on the retreat…
What are Dandy and Brisebois for? I’ll take those two before any emergency D-man trade, just to cover a short-term injury. Let’s not ruin years of work pushing the panic button.
Please remember, the last time we tried to cover a short-term d-man injury, we lost Hainsey on recall waivers and then traded Ribeiro for Niinimaa.
With potentially both Hammer and Franky B out with injuries, the habs need to add another d man via trade. Bob Gaines get off your but and start dealing!
Anyone have any other thoughts
I never denied he was over hyped, but people bash him left and right as if it’s his fault.
It makes no sense to blame him, as all he does is be a great player and a very accommodating person by all acounts. He has won the Hart and Art Ross Trophies in his first three years and has played a major role in bringing a laughingstock of the league to the Stanley Cup finals in those three short years.
Could this be another example of the NHL not being receptive to their fan base? Quite possibly, but to bash Sidney for it is ridiculous.

Brr, tell me about it! It’s very cold here where I am, I can only guess how chilly our boys in the north must be.
Pull out the turtlenecks!

Dandy is about to become handy as an extra D, forwards we seem to have plenty of but healthy NHL defenseman we don’t have.
Go to the Shack and have a club sandwich. Mmm mmm good.
Dave,
Are these guys going to get any time to themselves without the media being around? I hope so.
It’s gotta be pretty serious for Boullion to miss a team building trip like this. That or something else is up…..
Smoke? Fire? Let the rumours begin, and we’ll see how long it takes Eklund to pick them up.

Smokes is gone, I can’t see us trading Cube to get him back.
Ok, Boullion and D’Agostini to Philly for Timonen, to help them get under the cap…hmmm… no wait a minute….the cap applies to us too…
Details, details…

Wait! I am pretty sure I read in the Toronto press that the reason we are looking so good right now, is because we are exempted from cap restrictions… ’cause we’re based in Quebec. We might be able to swing this thing after all.
The Ghost poster strikes again!
