Canadiens legend Elmer Lach, 93, is recovering in hospital following successful hip surgery last night.
The Hall of Famer and oldest living Canadien broke his hip a few days ago after a nasty spill outside his home. But he’s gotten excellent care and doctors are pleased with the surgery, performed just about the time the Canadiens were taking on the Carolina Hurricanes.
Don’t get the idea from yesterday’s report that Elmer had to be outside shovelling; he broke the hip in a fall, not out clearing snow. But Elmer, a native of Nokomis, SK, and a Montrealer for 70 years, knows the business end of a shovel and anyone who knows him understands there’s not a neutral gear in his body.
Updates to come in the days ahead.
