Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Alex Kovalev is the winner of the past month’s Molson Cup award based on three-star selections. It’s the fourth consecutive month Kovalev has won the award.
And the Canadiens today signed prospect Ben Maxwell to a three-year contract.

The Canadiens’ releases:

Interesting to see Mcdonagh listed ahead of Chipchura and Pacioretty. It’s pretty unanimous around here that Chipchura can play in the NHL, and Pacioretty has been getting raves all year, so that’s a compliment by Hockey’s Future. David Fischer has also turned things around this year, so he’s another good prospect … one among many others.

Is it possible to be the team’s #1 goalie and just a “prospect” at the same time?

“All bow down before the Komisaurus Rex!”
Hockey’s Future has Ben Maxwell listed in Montreal’s top five prospects.
1. Carey Price
2. Ryan McDonagh
3. Kyle Chipchura
4. Max Pacioretty
5. Ben Maxwell
He’s projected to be basically Maxim Lapierre with a bigger offensive upside.
Carbo mixed up the lines to give the kids more time.. I thought it was a great thing to see the two Kost. brothers together with grabs..
The bashing he took last year was richly deserved. Plainly put, he SUCKED last year.
Quite the opposite this year.
“Are the Habs ready to pay the Price?”
This won’t get old anytime soon. I love the fact that Kovy is gunning this year. I hate bringing up the past, but I think it’d be a good idea to once again go down memory lane and ask everyone if they remember how much bashing Kovalev took last year. It was a LOT! I just hope that we all take this into consideration when we decide to put any of our boys in the cooker.
Tonights game is going to be a tough one. I hate it that Brodeur goes along playing the way he does, and then goes, “AH!! We play Montreal tonight!” and then goes and cranks his bloody game up 150 notches! I think we got into his head last game with that 3 goal third period. As long as we come out flying and play the same way we did last night we shouldn’t have a problem. Should make for a good game.
This could entirely be just me, but does anyone else seem to notice that there were times last night where there were some odd line combinations? Guys who normally don’t play together. Again, this could be just a figment of my imagination, or simply our boys in the midst of a drawn out line change. Just wondering.
Ultimate Die-Hard Since 1986.

Good for Maxwell getting signed. Hopefully he’ll stay healthy and be able to develop through the system and find himself in a Habs jersey in the coming years. He was one of 9 guys to sign my jersey after the preseason game here in Halifax so I’m happy for him.
See you April 5th at the Bell Centre!
Since when are players immune from criticism?
Nobody wants to hear you bashing Koivu.
I guess people don’t remember all he has done for this team.
Apples and oranges my friend. Komo and Higgy are young players (only one has an “A”) and whose combined salary is still less than Saku’s. By contrast, Saku is the captain, has been for many years, and makes $4.75 per.
It’s funny how a player can do a complete 180 in just few months…
Couldn’t care less. The star system rewards goal scorers and goalies, not playmakers and locker-room heroes. Who says the captain has to lead the team in scoring anyway?
Wow, look at where our Captain is on that list
look wher the future candidates for captains (IMO) are… komi & higgins…. so i guess the molson cup & the captaincy are not necessarily related
If “[t]he star system rewards goal scorers and goalies,” why does Cube have more points than Saku?
Shouldn’t those two shots the Devils generated in the third period against the Washington defense also be a concern
Montreal needs the first goal tonight.
Great News for Kovalev he deserves it…he’s played great all season….As for Ben Maxwell injuries aside he’s one of Montreals better prospects, hopefully Maxwell can stay injury free from now on, and show us what he’s got
Congrats Kovy, you’ve carried this team on your shoulders this year! No question!!!
