I don’t drink that crap on your avatar by the way.  I grew out of enjoying gut rot a long time ago.

    K here’s a better idea…

Our bet can be for a Habs item on EBAY instead of a case of 12. Maximum value of 15$ US, shipping included.

    Sound good?

Hey Tommy, and Triple X for that matter, I just realized we can’t have the line at 65 pts. If he ends up with 65, we all just wasted our time and I’ll feel really used.

    How does 65.5 points sound?

And if Tom wins, I’ll make sure you get one of those fancy unbrella’s in all of your drinks at the establishment.

I’m feeling confident with the under, lol..

I’m predicting a 25-28 goal season for AK if all goes well..Add 30-35 assists, and that’s what I see possible.

I come up there at least a half dozen times each year and for at least two playoff games each season regardless of how many rounds the team plays.  I will only visit one place by the way, I’m sure you can guess which one it is.

  11. Kamal Panesar says:

65 points for AK46 eh?  So I guess you’re predicting a 30-30 (give or take) season for him then?

Interesting pick and, quite honestly, IF he does anything approaching those numbers, the Habs will have one hell of a good season.

If, at the same time, Pouliot could pot 25+ goals, this team could become something of a force.

Just imagine that Price finds his form AND Eller tosses in 15+ goals?  Wow.

That being said, that is A LOT of IF’s.  My fingers are crossed, but IF these IF’s don’t pan out, this coming season will be no different from last year, imo.

We’ve all looked a million times by now. Really. I agree that it’s not a great contract, but I think all that’s being said is that, comparatively, it’s not that horrible when you look aorund the league. Except for a couple of brain cramps, I thought Gomez stood tall in the playoffs. IOW he was there when it counted most, and I think that’s what was on BG’s agenda when he traded for him. Now: could we talk about Halak and Price for ahwile? :)

  17. TripleX says:

They also had a pretty good LW on that line by the name of Patrick Ellias.

Also that was FIVE years ago, which is a long time in career especially someone as small as Gionta.

Ed, states “I would NEVER GIVE MY 1st ROUND PICK FOR TANGUAY”. Good for you, I too am against trading 1st round picks more often than not (I did not like to trade at the time, but I understood it and see no reason to bring it up years later). But, how does your and my personal feeling have to do with anything? We’re not NHL G.M.’s, Gainey paid to going rate, and took a loss on the trade. Also, you’re playing with revisionist/dead wrong history. The Tanguay trade happened at the draft for the 25th pick and a 2009 2nd rounder, also Montreal got a 5th round pick.  The Leafs traded over twice the value for Kessel, 2 1st and 1 2nd round pick, without any of the picks actual positions being settled. So lets not compare the two trades.

  26. nickster13 says:

he needs to lose some weight before that happens. I was watching clips of the 2008 playoffs against philly and he looked great, normal sized, and engaged. This year though, slow and disinterested, and you could see his chubby cheeks from your living room sofas.

Oh and learning some english would be a start, how many years has he been here now and he can’t say much more than  “i try to score goal”? doesn’t foster good communication with teammates on the ice or in the locker room if you’re not up to par, look at malkin who made a commitment!

  27. Rugger says:

I see your over/under point is 10 points higher than the original posters premise.  I would take it at 55 points but 65 is a bit high.  I would be happy if he hits 60 or so points.

  28. camel_larry says:

What’s a career season for Sean Avery, anyways? 5 points, as opposed to 4?

“Yeah, but he only got demolished in 50 fights this year. It’s usually somewhere in the 82 range.”

Seriously, 4m for Avery, That’s ridiculous.

    Go Habs Go!

  29. Storm Man says:

That is a very safe bet.

  30. TomNickle says:

Hell no! If you want a line of 70 points you’re giving me at least 3.5 to 1 odds Mike.

You can have 65 points at 2 to 1 or 70 points at 3.5 to 1.

    And pick your price.

    HAHA, fair enough!

  35. TomNickle says:

Keep in mind that you’re talking to the guy who predicted a 50 goal year for Stamkos and that Rask would steal the starting job from the 08-09 Vezina winner.

Oh, and that the Flyers would win the cup last September.  I didn’t win on that one but if they’d had Emery in net I’d like to think my prediction would’ve come true.

  36. ed lopaz says:

  39. crabvader says:

How many goals did he score that one time? Yeah… thought so.

Who helped him score that many? Your favorite player, Scott Gomez.

Sigh, but I guess the writing isn’t on the wall yet… how many people have agreed with your post so far?

Besides, are you even AWARE of the tax situation in Quebec?

Gionta’s 5mil looks more like 4mil or even less anywhere else.

  40. TomNickle says:

So you don’t think it’s possible that a player with Kostitsyn’s skill can put up 70 playing with Cammalleri and Plekanec.

Tell you what Mike.  I’ll give you the chance to make a fool of me.

You give me 2 to 1 odds on a wager of your approval, and I’ll take the bet.

The best part of that Bruins article is where Fluto is talking about American teenage players heading to the CHL, and actually calls it the “Central Hockey League”.

  45. mike g says:

    LOL, Tommy…

We’ve been watching AK for 4 years now, and apart from 2007-08 when we miraculously finished 1st overall and Kovy was ALL-STAR game MVP (?!!!!!), there’s absolutely no indication AK will or can score 35 in the N.

I don’t hate the guy, but most people overlook how hard it is to score 35 in the N. It takes alot of hard work, discipline, and playing through pain efficiently. None of those can be found in AK’s resume. I know it’s his contract year and players usually go insane during that year.

But to me, there’s absolutely no indication that he will score a goal every 2 games. And 70 points is pretty much a point per game, unless he stays healthy and plays all 82.

I’ll take the points line at 65. I also think it will be close because I think he can hit 60. But more than that is a stretch IMO.

  46. PeterStone says:

    i’m with you … under … i would say 45 points …

he’s so frustrating to watch .. he has skills .. great moves, nice finish , great shot, hits hard .. but, then he sleeps for 6 in a row … 45 points , but at least he’ll get 20something Goals.

  47. Mattyleg says:

I agree, Trip, I think that AK will profit from his brother’s absence. It should be a good year for him.

  51. PeterStone says:

then I would trade him and try to maximize the return , like we did with jaro.  I cant see a team making a real run at a cup with him playing an important role in your team.

  52. TorontoHabsFan says:

Wow. 70 pts! We haven’t had this kind of spirit here since 19(93) ;)

(I think 25 and 25 is highly probable. Which is pretty much what Ryder does in a good season. However if Kostitsyn does in fact have a season like that, you can bet your life you won’t hear it hyped to the extent that Ryder’s 1st in Boston was :)

  53. HardHabits says:

Nice analysis and I agree with your conclusion. Gomez brings many more intangibles than just points to the table IMHHO.

  54. camel_larry says:

    Geez.

Get it right, man. I expect more from you.

  55. TomNickle says:

You’ll lose that bet Mike.  Never underestimate what a contract year can do for an underachiever’s production.

It’s a good line though.  It would be a very close race and I would look forward to watching it.

I think 35 and 35 is very likely for him.

  56. HardHabits says:

Welcome back, er, I mean aboard.

  57. TripleX says:

You guys should really be agents.  Gionta and Gomez both bring qualities that can’t be measured on the stat sheet but are worth MILLIONS to any team.  See how that flies when negotiating a contract in REAL LIFE.

For your information Gionta has scored 30 goals or more ONCE in his career.

Cammallari has been a natural goal scorer everywhere he has gone and is three years younger.  Goal scorers are always a highly prized commodity and are paid for it.  Having said that the next best offer for Cammy was a million  a year less.
