In case you missed it, a customarily excellent Elliotte Friedman Inside Hockey feature on my man Josh Gorges.
Dont forget that we also got pacioretty in that trade to top it off, that trade was amazing! Pacioretty is gonna turn out to be a really sick player too.
That was great, he is something special, and he’s a straight shooter too. I hope he shoots a few straight past Fleury tonight.
It was interesting to hear the Pens had either the first or second pick for 4 years in a row.
Even a moron like me would be able to build a contender with those choices.
Great story !
Heartwarming and powerful. It just shows you what a loving family can do
For me the most powerful part was watching his mother on the couch at the end so excited and proud you could see her looking over at dad tearing up.
I think the Habs will win tonight because Josh wants to make that call to dad after the game and tell him
“We did it dad. We beat Syd”
Ooh Aah Habs on the war path
Great feature! JG is part of the reason why the Habs have been doing so well during the playoff season and why they will pull it off again tonight. They have superb character guys like Gorges to help lead the team.
What a great piece on a great kid from a great family. So thrilled to see his development over the years.

Bob is looking damn good right now.
Gomez, Cammi, Gill, Gionta, Markov, Gorges in that order.
I love it. Add Moen to that list too.
No. (I don’t miss Rivet.)
Boy. How you like the leadership on this team now compared to a few years ago? Simply aren’t enough C’s and A’s to go around what with Gorges, Gomez, Cammalleri, Gionta, Gill, Markov. All these guys are very deserving of a letter.
I disagree with Don Cherry on a lot of things but he’s right sometimes. He was right about Gorges and for showcasing the biased reffing during coach’s corner.
December 4, 2009 – Elmer Lach’s jersey took its rightful place with the Rocket’s in the rafters.
Inside Hockey Don Cherry even Peter Puck are available at cbc sports.
I got a bit of dust in my eye after that. His parents must be EXTREMELY proud to hear all of that said of their son.
A good feature and yeah… almost made me tear up….Josh has been a true warrior for us, and shame on those who scoffed at Bob Gainey for making this trade….do you miss Rivet now????
Hopefully Josh has his big partner Gill back tomorrow night.
GO HABS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still think GIO should be Captain. His leadership & experience is what makes him great. LOVE LOVE Josh and he should definitely be an alternate. You know what? As I was typing this I realized how great and important these playoffs have been to show how great our team is and where our weaknesses are. I’m very happy with this season.
Aww shucks, made me tear up a bit.
Gorges is a good guy man.
There are too many feel good stories on this team.
That is pretty much the cutest thing ever!!
Love the story…He’d make an excellent captain!!! His team mates love him!!
He’s the admitted leader of the young guns, but defers to The other G’s for the veterans (Gill, Gionta, Gomez)
lets bring this back tomorrow night
OOH AAH – HABS ON THE WARPATH!
Can’t get enough of this HNIC feature on JG.
Someone give this guy the “C” already. Can’t think of anyone else that would be more fitting.
Here’s hoping he stays a Hab for years to come.
What a guy… since his second season, people have been saying he should be captain. I definitely agree with that!
Habs Romance Remix
What an awesome story. Always liked Gorges since he first got here, his stock has risen with every year. This year he REALLY stepped it up with all the old guys leaving. Cherry I agree, I would LOVE to see a character guy like this as our Captain.
With so many question marks and new players heading into this season, it was essentially one big experiment; I fully expected the young guys to get regular shifts all season, regardless of mistakes, to work along side the veterans and character guys to develop their games.
We might have sucked this year, but it would have paid dividends for ’10-’11.
Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.
Great story. I will be the first to admit when gorges came over i saw him as nothing more then a throw in and didn’t expect him to be in the long term plans. He couldn’t crack the top 6 and i believe a long term breezer injury gave him his chance to prove himself by getting the chance to play a regular shift hence allowed to develop as a player. Now,3 years later he has been on our #1 shut down pair with gill. Take note JM.
Holy crap! We’ve gotta start claiming Don Cherry here (& Ron McLean for his closing comments.) “The real hero is Josh Gorges: he looks like Doug Harvey out there.”
That’s the highest praise we can get! Go CBC.
(Did I just write that?!)
love him! hard working and tons of heart! you make us proud HABS fans Josh!
Excellent – thanks for that Mike. Seeing the last bit with Josh’s dad with a tear in his eye says it all.
Absolutely awesome piece on what seems like an awesome guy. That is the best trade Gainey made during his tenure: Craig Rivet for 1st round pick (Max Pacorietty) and Josh Gorges? Wow, nice move.

Such a good trade for Bob!
“I gotta feeling…that tonight’s gonna be a good night!”
Pound per pound, one of the toughest guys there is. All heart. We’re lucky to have him.
“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”
We gotta resign him to a long-term deal ASAP and throw a letter on his chest.
The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.
Great piece…brought a tear to my eye. Somebody should show that video to Sergei to try to get him to understand the concepts of hard work and commitment.
No family grounding for The K Bros, alas. Great Canadian story, eh?
Beautiful. It’s performances such as his that make the playoffs what they are all about. Well deserved and earned Josh, he’s such a huge part of the reason we’re still playing. Glad to hear he’s no longer the unsung hero.
All heart and you make us Habs fans proud Josh!
Go Habs Go….it ain’t over!
Well done Josh, Sprague would be proud of your heart, desire, and willingness to do wahtever it takes to win.
Go Habs Go!

At the end of the feature, Mclean mentioned how the penguins picked either 1st or 2nd overall for 4 straight seasons. What a load of s%*t. You know that the system is flawed when something like that can happen.
In those 4 straight seasons they picked Crosby, Fleury, Malkin, and Stall. That is basically their team. I wonder what the Habs would look like if they could pick 1st or 2nd overall for 4 straight seasons.
Whatever. We EARN our success, they get it handed to then.
Our last top 4 pick was in 1980.
The Pens tanked for several seasons, and got financial bailouts from the rest of the league to keep them afloat.
In a few years when Crosby and Malkin are gone and the team is not as good, those bandwagon fans will desert then once again, and they will be begging for bailouts again.
Shit franchise. Shit fans.
I’ll still be pulling for them against Boston or Philly mind you.
I don’t care for the Pens, but I would be pulling for them against any team except the Sharks.
Twice in recent years the Habs were knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual Cup winner—Tampa Bay in 2003-04 and Carolina in 2005-06.
That’s a great set of facts to keep in mind.
We DESERVE to win…
Great piece. Thanks, Mike.
It’s a testament to Bob Gainey that the Canadiens have more than one player qualified to wear the “C”: Gorges, Cammalleri, Gionta, Gill, Markov, and Gomez.
After Koivu, how many guys on last year’s team were “C” material? Markov. Gorges had not yet made his mark. I can’t think of anyone else. Kovalev wore the “C” on occasion but even the staunchest supporters of L’Artiste—and I include myself in that group—would admit that he was not cut from the leadership cloth.
I would not be disappointed to see any of the guys you mention with a “C” and I can’t think of anyone on the current roster that I would add to the list.
The most important thing for the Habs to remember is that they ALL wear the C on their chest.
Yes, it says a lot about the team when you have so many that lead by example. Clearly, Gainey’s “reset” added skill and character to the team.
Regardless of what happens tomorrow night I am heartened by the team’s accomplishments this season.
