Congratulations to HugeHabsFan, who with a guest will be our guest when the Canadiens take on the Buffalo Sabres this coming Sunday at the Bell Centre.
HugeHabsFan’s name was drawn this morning from among almost 180 HIO members who correctly guessed that Michael Cammalleri would be the Canadien to score his team’s 20,000th goal in last night’s game in Kanata vs. the Ottawa Senators.
The winner will receive two seats in The Gazette’s loge, with refreshments. On the downside, the winner will spend the game in the company of HIO’s Kevin Mio, and others, and will be subject to a loge visit by Mike Boone and myself.
More than 1,200 HIO site users, including many who have been with us for years, tried to predict who would score the historic 20,000th goal in Canadiens franchise history. Some ballots were disqualified as being in violation of the rules, dozens of single-post fans registering several handles in a bid to improve their odds.
Andrei Kostitsyn was the runaway favourite choice, with Cammalleri, Tomas Plekanec and Andrei Markov all garnering impressive support. Every player on the roster except for goalie Carey Price received at least one vote; netminder Jaroslav Halak got one, before we’d declared the exercise to be a contest.
HugeHabsFan should contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org to make arrangements for Sunday. A second name has been drawn in reserve, should the winner be unable for any reason to attend. Thanks to all for having taken part.
