I know it’s off topic but is anyone else tired of the Toronto bias that permeates the CBC? I had enough today and wrote this complaint to see if I could get a non form-letter response from them. I’ll keep everyone posted on their reply (presuming I get one).
My complaint to CBC Radio is below. Feel free to add your voice if you like…
“I am under the impression that the CBC is the National Broadcaster and that it is funded by my tax dollars. As such, I expect balanced reporting and commentary regarding Canada’s NHL hockey franchises in exchange for those tax dollars.
For the 3rd time in less than 3 weeks during the Ontario Morning segment, the sportscaster only addressed the NHL hockey stories that revolved around the Toronto Maple Leafs. Again today, the broadcast only discussed the plight of the Leafs and their perennial inability to make the playoffs before moving onto other topics. I don’t have problem with discussing the Leafs. However, no mention was made that any other NHL game involving Canadian teams took place.
Meanwhile two western Canadian teams played each other (one of which is 1st in the NHL) and the Ottawa Senators defeated the powerhouse Philadelphia Flyers but that wasn’t worth discussing. Neither was the Montreal-Chicago game. The fact that it involved two potential playoff-bound, original six teams (one of which was the defending champion) was apparently not deemed to be newsworthy. Even if that wasn’t worth mentioning to their apparently Toronto-centric audience you would think that the sportscaster might have had the sense to draw the audience in with the fact that both Montreal goals (including a dramatic overtime winner) were scored by players from the GTA.
I and many other Canadian taxpayers, are very disturbed by what appears to be an obvious Toronto bias that is on display throughout the CBC (and apparently growing in radio) and want to know how and when this imbalance will be resolved.
“just shut up and play against him” – BG
Nicely done. Only thing missing is the mention of Don, Von, Gone “or whatever his name is” Cherry. Lol he points out a lack of disrespect by PK to Crosby, yet he purposely pretends to not know his name despite watching him play hockey from the age of 14. The irony.
Mine de rien: PK has 11goals in his past 34 games
His fourth goal of the season was the celebration goal on January 17th.
Thats a 27 goals per season pace… he would be first scorer.
Awesome vid — went up on my FB right away!
BTW, Don Cherry may be a jerk in a million ways but I don’t think he’s actually racist. He hates ALL Habs equally!
Well, even though I talked about racism below I’m not sure you’re wrong in that observation. As I stated earlier, the night the panel on TSN made an issue of his goal celebration is when I questioned their motives. But I do agree with you that Cherry may not be racist. The reason I think this may be true is because if PK was a leaf I don’t think Don would have any problem with his ‘cockiness’. In fact, he would love it.
Don hates the Habs…and nothing else factors into that equation.
pk subban has as much ability as doug harvey had,pk will develop as one of the greats that ever played for the canadians .this guy has it all….watching him is like watching an artist,he can skate circles around almost everybody. i am proud that he is on the canadians,go pk go.as far as the idiot racists go ,get lost ,now. you guys know nothing about hockey ,and less of life. don cherry is a complete idiot,in every sense of the word.poor cherry ,needs a doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great video and very creative editing.
Awesome video. Still waiting for that addled old loser Cherry and hypocritical veterans around the league to call out Brad Marchand for his rookie trash-talking, or any other player around the league for celebrating a goal. It hasn’t happened: I guess it’s considered all white when they do it?
Full Breezer 4 Life
I wish the meaning of your “all white” Freudian slip wasn’t true, but unfortunately, I suspect it is.
I think it was a reference to Panger’s slip, which was totally unintentional.
As someone else said below, what else it could it be? Other players celebrate goals and most certainly talk trash. Even rookies. That little jerk Marchand beaked off and trashed the whole Habs team to the MEDIA. Lots of veteran respect there. I haven’t heard it mentioned.
What’s the difference? Simple as black and white. I teach high school and no-one is going to tell me that racism is a thing of the past.
When I hear PK trash anyone – much less an entire team – to the media, then I’ll start to wonder about his class. But his deportment to this point has looked like class all the way to me.
Let me tell you in my neighbourhood RACISM is a thing of the PAST!
All the WHITE folks moved out!
Yuk! Yuk! Yuk!… come on me make funny line.
I was talking about the game today with an old friend who is a hawk fan and we were discussing Pk. I told him I was at a loss as to why so many media people -like the whole TSN crew for example- were upset over PK’s goal celebration against Calgary. After all the demonstrative celebrations we have witnessed over the years why his had hit such a nerve. He told me it was obvious to anyone that it was due to his skin colour. That he almost felt embarrassed watching them discuss it. Well, I’m not one to believe that stuff a whole lot anymore but it seems to me my friend is right. I mean, what other conclusion can you come to?
