Hossa soon a Canadien: Yahoo report

Yahoo Sports, citing an unnamed NHL executive, is reporting this morning that Marian Hossa will today join the Canadiens in exchange for at least Michael Ryder.

  1. teamplayer says:

yeh itll end up being nother team coming in… and if that doesnt happen gainey should take back his trade knowing that no one else is in play

  2. coutNY says:

One non-North American being a nearly 50 goal scorer nearly 100 pt getter on RW… with Selanne?

  3. nightmare_49 says:

Richards has a no trade clause and will waive it for the right to pick the place he wants to play for next. Montreal may not be in the picture?

  4. showey47 says:

Waddell is gonna hold out as long as he can to get a maximum return for hossa, putting myself in his shoes i can’t really blame him.

  5. krob1000 says:

That is the same argument as the no European captain has ever won junk. I am Canadian I come from the same hoemtown as Don Cherry….I worked with his nephew who coached Spezza and the Ice Dogs. I also am aware as are you I hope that strictly mathematically speaking the majority of players are Canadian. Europeans have only really been around the last fifteen years in large numbers. In the early years there were very few captains now there are several. Let’s assume there are ten out of thirty teams NOW that are captains ( I don’t remember exactly and today won’t be bothering to research it) then that only means there is a one in three chance that a foreign captain wins. Remind me of this argument after the deadline another day and I’ll look up the numbers for you as I have disproven this on here long ago when guys were knocking the Markov’s, Kovy’s and especially Koivu on here.

  6. coutNY says:

Great he could come in and tell everyone in Montreal, after we exit the playoffs in the first round, how great it to win a cup in Tampa. Since his Conn Smythe and Huge contract, they’ve exited the Playoffs the first round 2005 and 2006.

Having a great year does not make him a Playoff performer. Being from Canada does not make him a better hockey player than Hossa. We can find a better player for his money!

  7. habfan53 says:

Not necessarily Carbonneau said yesterday in his post practice press conference that a lot of the players minds would not be on the practice but more on the deadline so he figured what was the use.

  8. teamplayer says:

sportsnet guy says: waddell playing his hossa card too much for ottawa

    from Atlanta’s version of Stubbs/Boone:

    Montreal closing in on Hossa?
By Craig Custance | Tuesday, February 26, 2008, 07:53 AM

    The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Montreal – Good morning. The craziness starts today. I’ll post everything on this blog in the comment section as I’m hearing it. Montreal seems to be the serious front-runner for Hossa, and I wouldn’t be surprised if something is close if not done. I’ll let you know for sure ASAP. Ottawa was seriously in the mix last night, so we’ll see what happens. In the meantime, what did you think of the Boyle and Prospal deal.

  10. Norm0770 says:

Just to be a pain in the a** and channel a little Don Cherry, the Ducks only had 3 non-Canadians on their Cup winning team last year.

With that said, yes all of our best players are European, and I would not trade any of them for Richards, even if you don’t take his salary into consideration which is a huge negative.

  11. Rocket1960 says:

Check out my awesome ice-level vids from Gainey’s jersey retirement night:

  12. wild flower says:

I’m talking Stanley cup not the Olympics. Most times the MVP is Canadian and I think the Habs could use a few more. Even more so if Ryder is not a Hab at the end of the day.

  13. tony d says:

the team was told to stay away from the Bell Centre till 5….for Brisebois, forever

  14. habsgod says:

that unfortunately will not happen t.b. requires a #1 goaltender and right now we need both huet, and price!!

  15. krob1000 says:

Especially given his contract’s reasonable rate but I don’t see it happening….Hossa is our man (trying anyway). I am hugely in favour of going after one of these guys and was before 90 percent of the posters on here but to go after two would cost more of the future than even I am willing to part with.

  16. Will Longlade says:

Not a chance. I think Huet is in play.

  17. Will Longlade says:

That’s typically the way these types of deals are done.

  18. Jay in PA says:

Yes, there’s that element to it, but he adds size, scoring, grit and leadership to the team. I’d be willing to part with more for him, absolutely.

  19. krob1000 says:

Tha Dallas package is a rumour for what they are offering for Richards….the same Yahoo site that reported this said it will also happen today (Richards to Dallas).

  20. Will Longlade says:

I’ve been a Hossa basher up to this point, but he probably does represent the optimal fit for Saku. If he came w/ a little more grit that would make him a perfect fit.

  21. krob1000 says:

That is very true Showey and thank you for pointing that out. Savard is a lot like Koivu and that amkes a lot of sense. I’d really like to see Higgins be the odd man out on that line and have Sergei helping feed Hossa as well. Higgins is a worker but his offensive instincts aren’t on par with the better forwards (although his skills can be and often are). I just don’t know if at this stage in his career he thinks the game fast enough to be on a line with guys like Koivu and Hossa. Sergei is young but is smarter than 90 percent of the league already. He just has a knack for doing the right thing…..and he isn’t afraid to muck it up in the corners so I’d like to see that combo if this does go down.

  22. nightmare_49 says:

Atlanta doesn’t need a goalie (Smith) so the Dallas package wouldn’t be of interest to Atlanta and Dallas is not trading for a rental.

  23. Will Longlade says:

Sounds like some roster players are definitely moving. Please B.G., not Higgins!

  24. krob1000 says:

Being Canadian hasn’t helped us too often at the Olympics. That is a ridiculous statement in this day and age. Our best players are all foreign…..should we trade them all???? Who is our best Canadian player???? Quick ……YOu have to think about it …for a while don’t you. That is the new NHL and it is necessary unless there is a ten team retraction which will never happen.

  25. showey47 says:

thrashers also lost marc savard 2 years ago he was also close to a 100 point guy for them. The top center for the thrashers this year was eric perrin with 36 points. I think both koivu and hossa would both thrive off each other

  26. wild flower says:

Richards would bring an attribute that many have recognised as important to cup champions and that Hossa doesn’t have: Canadian citizenship. But I guess if he doesn’t want to play in Montreal its all academic.

  27. wild flower says:

Richards would bring an attribute that many have recognised as important to cup champions and that Hossa doesn’t have: Canadian citizenship. But I guess if he doesn’t want to play in Montreal its all academic.

  28. nightmare_49 says:

You’ll have to give up more for Jokinen he’s not a UFA.

  29. krob1000 says:

Last season they played together more and Hossa got 100 points this year he played secnd fiddle and still managed a point per game. Hossa is a perrenial point per game and 30 goal plus guy…he should be be welcomed with open arms and a lot of cash.

  30. coutNY says:

Conn Smythe maybe in 2004, but since then he’s nothing of the sort! He’s not that big. He’s a lifetime -55 plus minus. (currently -25). Never been a 30 goal scorer…

Not a $7.8 plus a top goalie??? The game of hockey is about Cap $$$ why would we handicap ourselves for 2 years? Basically paying double what we pay Koivu for same amount of production? Koivu’s a playoff performer too…

  31. nick says:

thought he said it was at 11? 😉

Canadians are skipping their practice today, and were told to stay away from the Bell center until 5PM.

  32. KeepRyder says:

Actually, the one year contract was Ryder’s idea. Gainey and the Habs were looking for two or three years at less per year than he got this year, around 2.25 mil.

As for Koivu, I only said I liked it, never said it was going to happen.

Again, keep as is and get some grit. that’s what I want.

It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!

  33. moser17 says:

John Lu on TSN just said that “the universal feeling” among Thrashers players yesterday was that Hossa had his last practice with the team. Speculation that he won’t be on the ice for practice this morning at 11:30amET.

  34. Habsville says:

    Hey Jason

Your right that Richards carries a big 7 million contract. If we send four guys to Tampa and subtract that, like Ryders 3.5 I think we have enough cap space this year with 4.225 to spend. If the cap goes higher next season this contract may be affordable in my HOI. I prefer a good canadian player to have rather than renting Hossa. I stay hopeful for this until the dealing is done today.

  35. wild flower says:

Hossa -14 56 pts (11 more than Saku on a team with Kovalchuk). If he had been playing with the Habs we would probably be talking about what was wrong with him.

  36. HKisses says:

Same situation we were with Souray, in the end of everythign we should have dealt him away….Im sure Waddel knows what he is doing.. lol

  37. piche says:

Ryder will punish us… I wish he was staying – or going to the West.

  38. showey47 says:

Atlanta is 7 points out of a playoff spot, second last in the conference and second last in their division. I know they are not mathematically out of it, but they are out of it. Either way hossa is not coming back, they need to get something for him.

  39. Habhopeful says:

Im sorry just my opinion that richards is not worth his 7.8 million dollar per year contract and im sure alot of ppl would agree with me…

“Like, you can’t get a girl pregnant when she’s on top man, I mean, its gravity…Just can’t happen.”

    -Jason Segel

  40. coutNY says:

Just like Ryder did this year? He has been among the leaders in PP time and Quality ICE time. Previous 55 games 7 goals? Gainey like it or not had the chance to sign him for a long time, but made it clear by a 1 year contract that he was not a part of his future plans. Maybe if he’s around he’ll change his mind, that is if Ryder can keep his game to that 4 game level.

Koivu, as stated by me and many others, will not waive a NTC to go to a none contender like FL. Why would he anyway with HIS team doing so well, and as he stated when the Marleau rumors floating around he does not want to go anywhere. The rumor is a dead horse stop beating it!

  41. piche says:

I agree regarding Jokinen. I’ll take Hossa in a heart beat but I would be willing to give up more for Jokinen.

  42. wild flower says:

If the big part of the deal that would bring him to Dallas is their backup goalie, why not Halak/Huet. I think I would rather have a young expensive Conn Smythe winner than a rental expensive playoff choker.

  43. piche says:

The best news for tonight is that, in any case, we will not have to face Hossa. Hopefully we will not have to face Ryder.

  44. Jay in PA says:

I’d still rather have Jokinen for all kinds of reasons, but I could live with this one depending on what it costs us. The question is, will it be the only move Bob makes?

  45. KeepRyder says:

Atlanta is in the running for top spot in the Southeast. Unless they get a tremendous amount for Hossa, why would they want to trade him. As much as I like Ryder, replacing Ryder with Hossa really doesn’t make sense from Atlanta’s perspective. They need players, not prospects or picks. The proposed Dallas package for Richards is similar to what Atlanta wants. What do we have that is of the same value?

It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!

  46. Shobud says:

In the last twenty games we have scored enough goals to win most nights, if we had someone to keep the goals out of our net..If this goes thru I think we will tank and not go past the first round..Hope I am wrong but I don’t think so.. I notice ottawa is going so great with their trade They killed themselves too

  47. RS says:

Maybe the Leafs could trade Antropov for Crosby?

  48. Smart Dog says:

I hope this is wrong. I would hate to lose Grabovski and two other players for a rental. No rental Bob! No rental!

Habs Fans! The FUTURE looks bright:
Plekanec, Higgins, Chipchura, A Kostitsyn, Lapierre, Latendress,
    Price, S Kostitsyn, Komisuarus, O’Byrne

  49. Habhopeful says:

I wouldn’t mind richards if he didnt bring a huge overpaid contract, plus dallas and columbus are in thwe running for him, dallas is offering Mike smith and jussi jokinen and maybe more…tampa really needs goaltending

“Like, you can’t get a girl pregnant when she’s on top man, I mean, its gravity…Just can’t happen.”

    -Jason Segel

  50. Sehs says:

And then Ryder gets a hat trick in the game and Hossa finishes -3?

  51. Habsville says:

What would it cost to get Brad Richards? The club can give up some of the AHL prospects that have been mentioned and a couple of UFA on the team now. I would rather see Brad Richards in a Habs uniform than Hossa.
A 4 for one trade is what Tampa needs. They have little cap space left with the signing of Boyle and the contracts of Vinny, St. Louis and Richards. I think Bob will bring Richards on board as the big centre we need without sending any core players to Tampa. That’s my hope before 3 today.

  52. Habs64 says:

What’s up guys? Who needs a coffee?

  53. KeepRyder says:

Won’t help when he gets QUALITY ICE and PP time in Atlanta. Especialy the PP. I am telling you and everyone else. Don’t give me he got that here and we tried blah, blah, blah… Lots of slumping Habs should have had either hte seat next to him or his seat, but yet didn’t happen (see higgins, Latendresse). What was wrong with Ryder is long gone. Trade him and he will, not only tear up the league, but he will have big games against the Habs.

4 goals in the last 4 games. If this is a what have you done for me lately type thing, where is Higs and Koivu lately. And, why is everyone so enamoured with S. Kost.? I haven’t seen anything to want to keep him. he could be trade bait too.

Personally, I like the Jokinen for Koivu rumour. Makes sense for both teams. What have you done for me lately. Take penalties in the offensive zone, minus player, etc, etc….

Sorry for the venting. I like our team the way it is now, believe it or not. What we need more than anything is some size up front. Need more sandpaper. Hmmm, wonder who leads the Habs forwards in hits?

It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!

  54. showey47 says:

If we don’t get hossa or any other “impact player” i hope bob does get the shut down center we need. If we don’t improve offensivly, we definatly need to improve on the defensive side

  55. kevrob says:

I keep getting this image of what could happen this evening at the game if the trade goes through. Ryder collects his belongings, says good by to his buddies and strolls out of the dressing room. Head hanging a little low, trying to remember where the away dressing room is. As he heads in the direction he sees Hossa heading past him with a grin. They pass each other in the hallway giving each other a slight nod. Hossa opens the door and enters his new home, as Ryder turns, he hears a load cheer followed by laughter erupt from the dressing room. A lone tear rolls down his cheek as he makes his way to his new home.

  56. bigjames says:

if that is right, then maybe gainey is proving the ultimate poker player, bluffing that he wants hossa til the last minute, then saddling ottawa with him. not that i think hossa is a deadweight, but i do think the last 2 game malaise has something to do with the trade deadline. and if the much anticipated hossa trade goes down, do the respective players play for their new teams tonite? that would be very strange…

  57. Blarneylad says:

exactly, I did not think of it that way, but if they did outbid us and then resign him, they’re offense will be dangerous but they won’t be able to have depth which in my opinion they already are lacking a litle bit

  58. 24 Cups says:

showey – maybe in a perfect world, Ottawa outbids us for Hossa, the Sens then slowly self destruct over the next two years and we eventually become the winners in our conference. For me, the rumoured price for Hossa is getting too high. Maybe we should pull back.

    The Original 24 Cups

  59. showey47 says:

This only benefits us for years to come.

  60. HKisses says:

Good Morning everyone….Some snow outside and at working hoping Hossa comes to MTL…I think TSN and all these sports guys put Ottawa in the mix to stirr up the pot and make it exciting…when in reality we are getting Hossa either way

  61. Blarneylad says:

the sens can’t afford to extend hossa past this season, so to trade vermette for a playoff rental would be stupid. There is no way the sens can afford to become a 4 player team. The lightning have already shown that that does not work in the new NHL.

  62. usversusthem says:

I’d like to wager a whole lot of money that we’ll hear something in say, the next… 6 hours… and um… gonna pick a number at random here… say 20 minutes… yeah. That’s my word and it’s final.

  63. nick says:

Should we start taking bets on what time we’ll hear something?

  64. usversusthem says:

I can only hope Hossa also knows how to beat Lehtonen… hahaha.

  65. TradeRyder says:

The Habs D know how to shut Ryder down. No worries.
On Tuesday I will change my name. Any Suggestions?

  66. Robert L says:

Here’s the link – I think Cox swallowed something dangerous.

  67. Edwardo says:

Wow………….Damien is way out to lunch on this one!

  68. KeepRyder says:

Well, you all know my position. I would rather lose Lats and Grabs, but Ryder is a proven commodity who will tear up the Southeast conference. And that’s another thing too, that conference will suit Ryder’s game just fine. I believe that before any trade, we need to make sure Hossa is going to stay for a while. Get the extention.

Believe me, you guys know that every time Ryder is back in Montreal, if he is traded, he will score and score some more. If he’s not, he’ll get his 20 as a hab. That will be better than most on the team.

Can we get some grit (as opposed to Grits) with that from Atlanta? Throw in Eric Boulton too, and give them Smokes or Dandy.
It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!

  69. Robert L says:

It’s official nothing is official yet!

This is going to be a crazy day, man. I predict a record number of posters to HIO, especially if we aquire the big fish!

For myself, I don’t want to see Lapierre go, but Ottawa is totally stupid to get rid of Vermette.

  70. tony d says:

so if and when it happens do we all yell YAHOO?

  71. 24 Cups says:

Damien Cox stated in today’s Toronto Star that the Laffs should trade Antropov – with one posssible deal being with Montreal for Higgins and a 1st rounder. Pardon me?!

    The Original 24 Cups

  72. wild flower says:

    TSN mentioned an example trade:

    Ryder Grabovski Lapierre = Hossa

also mentioned this would be simple a rental with not much chance of Hossa signing to a longer term

  73. TradeRyder says:

    Indeed! Yahoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!! is the word!!!!

  74. habsfan reduxit says:

… if Hossa becomes a Hab today, would he suit up in bleu-blanc-rouge for the game tonight?t

  75. Dave Stubbs says:

If – and that’s the world’s largest two-letter word today – Hossa becomes a Canadien, he could indeed play for Montreal tonight. Teams have been known to keep a guy out for one game to let him get settled. But since Hossa wouldn’t have to travel to his new team, short of turning the other direction down a Bell Centre corridor… Which also means that Michael Ryder could play for the Thrashers.

  76. RGM says:

I wouldn’t be surprised that, if it did happen, both teams would agree that the exchanged players would have the night off. I seem to very vaguely recall this sort of thing happening before, but that might have been a dream. Sort of a gentlemen’s agreement not to use their new weapons against each other right after swapping them, for lack of a better analogy.

See you April 5th at the Bell Centre!

  77. Blitzen says:

Yep…imagine the guy you just traded away coming back and immediately biting you in the butt. Like Ryder scoring three against us. in MTL.
    Remember February 19th: The Comeback

  78. yehaken says:

Ryder’s a rental player too, so that washes out the UFA risk both ways. But I think we’d have to part with more than Ryder.

I’m just worried about the Higgins comments. Any of you remember when Chelios got traded for Dennis Savard? Chelios was the half-captain with Carbo at the time. He was crying at the press conference after the trade. That was about 20 years ago, and he’s still playing. And it takes will to play in the NHL when you’re 46 years old.

I feel that Higgins would be one of those (American) guys. He has will. He would be a Hab for life if only they’d let him, and I hope they let him.

  79. Y says:

Happened on the 93 deadline. Rags and Oilers were playing each other at MSG and Tikkanen and Weight got exchanged, just moved their stuff across and bada-boom.

  80. TradeRyder says:

TSN is showing Streit back on D and Ryder playing with Lapierre and Lats. It also shows 8 D, and 13 forwards in our line-up. By my count that’s a couple of people too many…. hmmmmm…..

Here’s my guess: Ryder, Streit, a prospect and pick for Hossa.

On Tuesday I will change my name. Any Suggestions?
    – SitSlowinski?
    – 4thRoundorBust?

  81. Richard B says:

Without a contract on Hossa, that is too much for a rental in my opinion.

IF I’ll repeat it IF Bob pulls this one out…My first son will be called Bob …I swear it!!!

  84. arcosenate says:

if we out bid the sens, does that mean we really offered higgins? or is it the package we put together. yahoo sports eh?

  85. TradeRyder says:

Maybe the Thrashers just see more of what they need in our club. We have a better pool overall. They also got burned by their last Sens trade losing Heatley.
On Tuesday I will change my name. Any Suggestions?
    – SitSlowinski?
    – 4thRoundorBust?

  86. Shiloh says:

The problem is that every GM in the league has read Yahoo as well and can try to put something together to up the ante. I’m heading to work with the assumption that we won’t land Hossa and will be ecstatic if we do. Ryder, Grabovski and a pick – with Hossa and a pick coming back would be my final offer. If Waddell holds out for more, take Grabovski off the table – I think that’s who he really wants in any case. In fact, if I were Bob Gainey I would call Waddell and let him know that another team was making an offer for Grabovski. Maybe that would flush him out.

  87. TradeRyder says:

Hossa’s a premium player. We’ll lose more than that… but willingly.

Ryder, Grabs, a pick, and Streit or Boulon is more like it.
    And worth it.
On Tuesday I will change my name. Any Suggestions?
    – SitSlowinski?
    – 4thRoundorBust?

  88. Norm0770 says:

Worth it if they are able to sign him…

  89. Shiloh says:

My offer would be the one on the table right now. You’re right that it will probably cost more. Hopefully we’ve left room to sweeten the deal if it gets late in the day.

  90. Edwardo says:

Man, I am not going to believe it until I see it. I remember a report that came out in the summer that said Briere would be a Hab come July 1st.
I can’t believe this became an official report on Habs I/O. The guy is siting an unnamed source…….how legit can it be? That is the kind of source Eklund uses.

  91. Dave Stubbs says:

Nowhere do we say this is an official report. We’re merely passing along the information that it’s been reported.

  92. yehaken says:

I agree, this really isn’t worthy of a post as it utterly lacks journalistic integrity. Or perhaps Bob Gainey said “ya, we got Hossa for Ryder and some other guys, Waddel didn’t say who.” :o)

  93. Richard B says:

    I am scared to death.
I wonder did Bob ask Kovalev if he wanted Hossa?
We don’t want to upset the turnip kart.
If Kovalev is not happy, none of us will be happy.
And if this goes through, I hope he was able to get it done without having to give up Streit

  94. showey47 says:

I doubt kovy would be upset, considering we can a second line that is just as good as our first line. This would take alot of pressure off our first line. We have all seen what happens when our first line doesn’t produce and the other 3 lines don’t contribute.

  95. yehaken says:

I don’t think they got burned. Heatley was done in Atlanta after the accident and wasn’t putting up numbers. Hossa had 100 points last year. I think it worked out well for both sides.

  96. Blitzen says:

You’re looking at numbers but the perception is that he got pwned. If Waddell trades Hossa to Ottawa, it will be for nothing short of a King’s ransom, unless he has no one else to dance with.

  100. 24 Cups says:

So Dave – I assume you will be opening the champagne once 3pm finally gets here. Let the countdown begin!

    The Original 24 Cups

  101. Edwardo says:

Obviously I don’t believe everything I read………I would just expect at least a real source for a rumour to be posted here.
Anyways I am not up in arms about it, I was just pointing that out.

  102. usversusthem says:

Well Yahoo Sports is a reasonably legit source of news… I wouldn’t expect them to post something if they thought it would make them look stupid 12 hours later. So the fact that they are saying that this is a done deal makes it newsworthy enough for Stubbs & Co. to post it here… pretty simple logic IMO.

  103. Blitzen says:

Gotta agree with you. The reason the Koivu line has played better is because other teams are focussing on the Pleks line by pressuring Pleks. We need two very solid lines so that when a team focusses on one, the other makes them pay big time. I think Hossa would allow us to do that.

My only fear is that a trade might result in Smokes and BreezeBy playing the rest of the year. Good feeling gone.

  104. Richard B says:

I think that I also agree with that reasoning…but still,
I think Kovalev thrives on being “the man”…and the Habs have been doing well.
Big changes can have negitive effects.
I mean look at all the “start” in NY in the last several years. It has not made them better.
I am excited about Hossa…but will be nervous till I see the on ice results.

  105. showey47 says:

The only way i can see breezer playing anymore is if both obyrne and streit are traded. I don’t see this unless bob picks up a dman in return

  106. showey47 says:

tsn reports the trade proposal for hossa is ryder, grabovski and lapierre while ottawa has offered vermette, schubert and foligno

  107. wild flower says:

these were mentioned as the type of players not the players

  108. showey47 says:

Really, i had my tv volume off and had the satelittle radio on and just saw the names.

  109. Forlando says:

    Well…I sure hope so…LOL

  110. moser17 says:

Bob MacKenzie: “There is an excellent chance that Hossa will walk right down the hall tonight at the Bell Centre to the Canadiens’ dressing room”.

Latest rumor still the same as earlier: Hossa for Ryder, Grabovski, and Lapierre

  111. moser17 says:

MacGuire and Dutch, standing awkwardly close together on the far right-hand side of the screen, discussing whether Higgins could be traded. Dutch likes what Higgins brings to the Habs, seems incredulous that he’d be traded. MacGuire says he was once being considered, but seems not to be right now.

  112. HotHabs says:

LOL – yes, their close proximity was weird, like they shared the couch last night!!!

enjoying the high’s & enduring the lows of being a Habs fan

  113. teamplayer says:

looks like a good time to go make breakfast…
anybody know how long it will be till bergeron is actually playing, i know hes on the ice for the 2nd day today

  114. RS says:

Apparently the Sens are distracted, trying to figure out who is going to be the coach and who is going to be their goalie.

  115. 1010 says:

Interesting situation. Murray fires Paddock because Murray didn’t get rid of the cancer that he has let thrive in the dressing room all year.

    GO HABS.

  116. GPK says:

John Lu confirms that Hossa’s equipment is in the visiting dressing room. Huge scoop…

  117. coutNY says:

HE (Hossa) will most like not a Thrasher by tonight… question remains where will he land?

  118. Robert L says:

According to the La Presse website and Francois Gagnon, the Habs press room carpet was vacuumed this morning, leading to specualtion that a press conderence is imminant.

Either that or Red Fisher slipped and spilled his popcorn!

  119. coutNY says:

Yeah that was on Boones blog last night everyone got a kick out of it… Maybe it just needed cleaning? our company vacuums my office every night even if I’m on vacation!

  120. Dave Stubbs says:

CKAC had that report on its website all day yesterday. So that means the room was vacuumed twice in two days? That would be a first.

And I can authoritatively state that Red Fisher does NOT eat popcorn at the Bell Centre. Potato chips, yes.

  121. tony d says:

I hear CSI will be in shortly to examine the vacuum cleaner’s bag for hair and fibre samples

  122. coutNY says:

The whole Hossa thing seems to open for it to actually happen. All the trades this year were very hush hush. No one had sprculated the Phili prospal. Or Sens Stillman and Commador deals.

Come on already deal or no deal? 4 & 1/2 hrs. left what the hell is everyone waitng for?

  123. HotHabs says:

Ya, this whole wait until the last hour thing is tiring and boring. It’s as if the league has some kind of trade day deal with the networks!

enjoying the high’s & enduring the lows of being a Habs fan

  124. moser17 says:

MacGuire looked the most uncomfortable, and the least willing to move. I imagine a TSN stage crew guy told him: “Pierre, stand right here, … no, *right here*, good, now whatever you do *don’t move* once the camera’s on …”

  125. HotHabs says:

So true! HA! I think they made a camera angle change right before they went on air and so weren’t able to make a stance change. It looked like it was originally set up for a tightly cropped frontal shot, and then they go to camera 2! Anyway – pretty awkward and humorous!

  126. bonez says:

If I was Bob Gainey I would stand pat and not give up anyone.GO HABS GO we WILL win the cup with the team we have there is no doubt in my mind.plus hossa sucks

  127. smiler2729 says:

I’m hearing Ryder, Lapierre, Grabovsky for Hossa. I prefer Chipchura over Lapierre so no big loss there but Ryder and Grabs for a two month rental player notorious for being absent come playoff time? I dunno. If Hossa has agreed to an extension then great move.

I’d much prefer Gainey chasing down Brad Richards, contract and all…

  128. krob1000 says:

More playoff no show propaganda….it is unfounded…..Richards is the Playoff no show…literally. They don’t even make the playoffs anymore. I actually like Richards and would take him but not over Hossa….not a chance.

  129. krob1000 says:

More playoff no show propaganda….it is unfounded…..Richards is the Playoff no show…literally. They don’t even make the playoffs anymore. I actually like Richards and would take him but not over Hossa….not a chance.

  130. Dingwell says:

Bryce Salvadore to NJ… ohhh he’s the big domino to start it all

  131. moser17 says:

    for Cam Jansen.

Duthie promises better trades later with bigger names. I.e., “keep watching, … please … we’ll get better!”

  132. GPK says:

Richards the playoff no-show?? He won the Conn Smythe!!!

  133. krob1000 says:

Yes…Then failed to make the playoffs for the next two years….it was a joke that was the “literally” part.

  134. coutNY says:

No Tampa made it for a 1st round exit..2006 & 2007… no one made 2005..

  135. GPK says:

    Ahhh…sorry. I’m slipping a bit. I need a trade!

  136. krob1000 says:

My bad for believing someone else’s post yesterday or the day before…..maybe they were being sarcastic….dunno. Given the choice I take Hossa in a heartbeat. If no Hossa or Jokinen then I’d want Richards…he is overpaid but so is anyone these days (except Jokinen).

  137. P St. Pierre says:

I agree. I think Hossa has more top end talent than Richards. However, I would miss Lapierre. I like his style and his speed.

  138. KeepRyder says:

I’d be interested in the “unofficial” opinion of Dave Stubbs. Who would you would you want the Habs to get or not get? Would you want them to do anything, nothing?

Not sure if you are allowed…..

It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!

  139. tony d says:

this just in, the 2 Bell beavers are hiding out in Hossa’s bag

  140. HKisses says:

WHy does everyone keep saying rental player…? Why wouldn’t Hossa wanna sign with MTL in the offseason? Like Kovi did… Anyone wnana explain? Yes he will ask alot…But theirs a limit to what he can be asking if he doesn’t produce as he should

  141. coutNY says:

Cary Price bobble-head night Friday…in Hamilton. I am sure Halak will love that night!

  142. KeepRyder says:

maybe they are in Ryder’s bag too. Lance…..lance!

It can only get better!! Go Ryder, Go Habs!

  143. moser17 says:

    absolutely awesome.

  144. smiler2729 says:

You know who would be perfect?

Imagine getting Mike Fisher and Antoine Vermette out of Ottawa. Now I know it won’t happen today but maybe a summertime blockbuster? Hmmm. What would you give up for them for next year?

  145. arcosenate says:

sportsnet is discussing in-depth the salvador trade. it’s riveting. i am considering putting my head in a vice.

  146. Habs64 says:

The New Jersey Devils have bolstered their defence for the stretch run, acquiring defenceman Bryce Salvador from the St. Louis Blues for forward Cam Janssen. Salvador, 32, has 11 points and 43 penalty minutes in 56 games this season. More to follow.

  147. RS says:

For now, the lease is up July 1. There is a chance at renewal, but that would need to be negotiated. No guarantee that he would sign. But perhaps that is being discussed.

  148. smiler2729 says:

    Who cares?

  149. moser17 says:

Duthie: Habs called up Grabovski from Hamilton.

  150. habfan53 says:

    1) He might want to play with his brother

    2) He knows if he signs there is NO PRESSURE to perform

  151. Habs64 says:

    Grabovski called up tsn

  152. smiler2729 says:

    Something’s brewing…

  153. grimmreaper says:

TSN just annouced that MTL called up Mikael Grabovski. The trade is emminent….or maybe to fill up a roster place.,

  154. P St. Pierre says:

I doubt Ottawa is interested in moving Mike Fisher. There are very few players that possess both his offensive and defensive abilities.

  155. Habs64 says:

\It looks like Ottawa, Boston and Detroit are out of the Hossa race. Price tag is too high, according to an Atlanta source.

  156. moser17 says:

HotHabs: There’s that shot again with MacGuire and Dutch! LOL there goes the theory that it was a last-minute mishap … I think the stage guys just like making Pierre uncomfortable …

  157. smiler2729 says:

Yeah… like I said, it’s a wish. And offer them something they need this summer after they tank out of the playoffs (again), and you never know.

  158. Habhopeful says:

I really really really hope noone picks up Jokinen man , unless its montreal, he is amazing and he would help a team so much, if anahiem gets him, i think ill cry, they’ll be unstoppable…

“Like, you can’t get a girl pregnant when she’s on top man, I mean, its gravity…Just can’t happen.”

    -Jason Segel

  159. Dingwell says:

    cam janessen is hilairous
“according to my mom and dad it was a blockbuster”

  160. Will Longlade says:

Along with a map showing where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.

  161. Habhopeful says:

By the way the habs sheet looks like, it looks like Grabovski will actually be playing on the habs roster…Hmmmmmmmm

“Like, you can’t get a girl pregnant when she’s on top man, I mean, its gravity…Just can’t happen.”

    -Jason Segel

  162. moser17 says:

Hossa will not be at the Bell Centre this morning for practice. Lu qualifies says it’s Hossa’s privilege to take morning skate off. That’s odd.

  163. Dingwell says:

john lu – still nothing, regretting getting up at 6 am for sure..
pierre freakin out duthie with his man love..

  164. Norm0770 says:

One of the reasons Hossa didn’t sign an extension in Atlanta is that the team has not made any real commitment to getting better. I don’t think he is worried about pressure, he wants to play somewhere that is competitive and has a plan that doesn’t just involve the team breaking even finacially.

Who knows, if the Habs get him, he might like what he sees in Montreal with a good group of young players getting better. And a team that is on track for the future.

  165. Jonnyboy says:

I am there, with bells on.

  166. moser17 says:

Dan23 posted this in Boone’s blog:

Canoe reports that Richards is a Hab:

    I say it’s a joke:

    “Plus de détails suivront.”

    “Mise à jour : 26/02/2009 04h00”

  167. tony d says:

Belak’s gone to Florida….whoop dee freeky doo

  168. Maffu says:

Does anyone think the HABS can land both Richards and Hossa????

I know that most are saying Richards to Dallas… just wondering.

Hey oh and I’m sure TSN knows about more trades than they are dishing out and just need to fill the 5 hours.

  169. Wops says:

HockeyBuzz reports Richards to Dallas is a done deal , for what its worth
    CH is for Chris Higgins

  170. moser17 says:

Campbell has gone to the Sharks, TSN says

  171. HabsInBlood says:

Yes … and the chance is about the same as the Leafs making the playoffs 😉

  172. habfan53 says:

Further to the pending Hossa deal.
Does anybody seriously think that Waddell would send Hossa to Ottawa? The Sens would then have BOTH Heatly and Hossa.
As for the other rumour that Ottawa wants Jokinen there’s a favor that Jacques Martin IS NOT likely to grant. Both scenarios are in Montreal’s favor.

  173. smiler2729 says:

For what it’s worth is right. Hockey Buzz and Eklund need to get a life.

  174. TripleX says:

TSN is reporting the Richards to Dallas deal is done…only needs his approval.

    Richards has approved deal…..damn it.

  175. Dingwell says:

    8 hours of watching…
    all for bryce “spice” salvadore

    ohh grabovski got called

  176. Robert L says:

What? You mean it doesn’t get vacuumed every day?

When we were there for the Habs Fan Summit, I stuck a toonie under the right front leg of the podium table for good luck. If it’s gone, I guess we aren’t getting Hossa.

  177. Chorske says:

It’s called nervous vaccuming. I had a girlfriend who suffered from that a few years back. Put a little tension in the air and VROOOOOM, out came the vacuum.

    At least, that’s MY theory.

  178. Scotty90 says:

This whole business is almost as exciting as O.T. in the 7th game of a cup final! Hope we come out the winners!

  179. HABZ24 says:

  180. Gooner says:

The guys on sportsnet reported earlier that the hold up on the Hossa deal is because the thrashers want Higgens instead of Ryder.

  181. teamplayer says:

please god no, ryder ok, higgins please bob dont give into that

  182. Gooner says:

TSN reports that a deal has been made to send Richards to Dallas. It was up to Richards to Waive his no trade clause.

  183. HUDSONHAB says:

Richards is gone, Hossa is here, gotta do something.

  184. teamplayer says:

surprised that tb did not get more then halpern smith and jokinen… for holmqvist and richards

guess tb looking to save money to sign lecav

  185. the_larry says:

Pierre McGuire just said that Montreal is working on something big. He just doesn’t know the details yet.

  186. HUDSONHAB says:

Maybe we can sneak Fedorov in as well as Hossa

  187. the_larry says:

Huet to Washington for a 2nd RD pick?!?!?!

  188. moser17 says:

Miller Huet to Capitals for a Second Round Pick!!

  189. moser17 says:

Duthie: Halak is coming from Hamilton to back up Huet
MacGuire: Carey Price is a far better athlete than Ken Dryden

  190. Shobud says:

I guess there is a god up there and he is watching..I have been praying for this to happen.. Last thing I wanted was Hossa..We have some kids that are going to make Hossa look like an AHL player in a couple of years Mark my words..I have been around a long time and seen lots of these trades..Remember when Grets went to st louis with Hull Oh it was going to be a great thing..Well it never worked out
