Honey, I shrunk the assistant GM

Using proprietary Habs Inside/Out software, we are able to project what Larry Carrière will look like after a year on the vegan diet Pierre Gauthier has mandated for all Canadiens’ front-office employees.

• For an interesting take on Carrière, check out Steven Hindle

• Shout-out to video scout Jarred Friedman for everything Andrei Markov ought to know about Canada

Carriere was interviewed for the Maple Leafs GM job when Ferguson was hired. He was in the mix for the Columbus GM job a few years ago

Sabres went cheap in the lockout. They do not have a real AGH and scouting done by video kids. Some checking will show you a lot of GMs or AGHs took a step back to take a step forward.

So we let go a dime a dozen cap geep lawyer kid for a guy who played the game, knows a dressing room and knows players inside out. Player knowledge is gold and can’t be bought. Lawyers? You know the answer to that.

Pretty simple here. Wonder what the other press would have said if his name was John Smith instead of Julien Brisbois?

As for Prendergrast, you might want to review this item. All was not roses.

Re:”what Larry Carrière will look like after a year on the vegan diet”…if Carey Price gets off to a slow start,Carriere might blame the media for overblowing the situation, saying that no goaltender is perfect..Carriere would attribute Price’s problems on his inability to properly receive his coach’s instructions…but all that would be needed to rectify the situation would be a different layer of goaltender equipment..

Being of a certain age, I am becoming more and more aware of ageism on this site. One can be fifty or more and yet still keep up with the times. Some of the most rigid and conservative thinkers, and I use the term loosely, are the younger set. It’s not automatic, but there’s often wisdom that comes with age. People need to be evaluated on their own merits and not just age. How many on ths site have quoted the ancient Scotty Bowman for example? This age thing is just another stereotype that has little merit.

I think it has such a good chance of going over, I might have set it at 24.5.

    1. Cammi  2. 2mil per season- any more would be the same effin’ joke this management team plays, over and over

    3. No- always has been an excellent player and the Habs quiet man.  4. No- Habs are spending at or near with some wiggle room- I fire Goatier for not signing Price before trading the goalie away. 5. Easy- the ones that delete posts that disagree with the “how great the Habs are” crowd. It’s difference of opinion that makes things interesting.

  13. The Cat says:

Nittymaki isnt that bad, he sucked only when he faced Montreal for some reason. Cant blame SJ for getting rid of Nabokov, for years Thornton got the brunt of SJ’s choking but Nabokov was more the reason.

A portion from Steve Simmon’s sports article (tidbit).

We take you now to the front office meeting of the San Jose Sharks, where the determination is made about how to win the Stanley Cup. “I’ve got the answer,” one voice says. “Let’s sign Antero Nittymaki to be our goalie.” There is applause all around. This is, of course, fictional: Or is it? One of the deepest, strongest teams in hockey lost its No. 1 goalie and replaced him with Nittymaki. And this somehow makes them better? There is but one plausible explanation for this: John Ferguson Jr. works for the Sharks. The same man who traded Tuukka Rask for Andrew Raycroft, believed in Justin Pogge and gave up multiple picks for Vesa Toskala. Must be Fergie. Otherwise, can someone please explain what GM Doug Wilson is thinking?

What struck me from Mr.Hindle’s blog on the hiring of Larry Carriere as Ast. GM plus was this statement …..  ‘Time will tell how this move plays out, but in my opinion this is a great addition to the Canadiens’.

‘Great addition’ : I could be wrong but i don’t remember Carriere’s name mentioned once when other teams in the NHL were persuing an Ast. GM vacancy in the past six years? ? ?

Also, if he was higher management with the Sabres wasn’t it quite a demotion to pro scout with another team. How come other teams didn’t come knocking for a job like head of scouting in the past six years? ? ?

Or could it come down to Mr.Gauthier hiring someone who would not be a threat to his position with the Habs.

ps; Just wondering if Kevin Prendegast’s name was considered seeing that he was a homeboy who had stints as V.P., Ast. GM in the NHL, GM in the AHL, decades as director of amateur scouting in the NHL and also worked for central scouting. His CV overshadows ‘The Great Addition’ but his last name isn’t french.

    1- Eller

2- 2.5-2.75 per; OK maybe up to 3 later years if he’s good.

3- Now he won’t be able to bolt to the olympics and skip Habs games, but love him anyways.

4- What, me fire capo di tutti capi? No way jose! Let someone else do that!

    5- IMO, usually both are.

    cheers,

I read the Pelle Lindberg book recently a good read about The Flyers goalie who died in a car accident in the mid 80s – If Mr Lindberg did not die it would have been close to a lock that Philadelphia would have won more than a few Stanley Cups & cut into the number that Edmonton ended up winning & The Flyers would not still be looking for their third Stanley Cup…………
