Honey, I shrunk the assistant GM

Using proprietary Habs Inside/Out software, we are able to project what Larry Carrière will look like after a year on the vegan diet Pierre Gauthier has mandated for all Canadiens’ front-office employees.

• For an interesting take on Carrière, check out Steven Hindle

• Shout-out to video scout Jarred Friedman for everything Andrei Markov ought to know about Canada

Betting was never an area of expertise for me soooo, here goes: over.

  2. Bugs says:

    1) Jack Marty.

    2) “Continues” to develop? I’ll be happy with “starts” to develop.

    3) Yeah, now, I hate’m.

    4) Why would you want to fire him? Look at Chicago; they got a Cup. Anythng goes.

    5) For me, it’s the bitches who articulate when they shout.

    1. I agree on those two too, but didn’t want my list to be too long. I am also very interested in seeing how Price responds. In fact, I think these three are the key to the season.

  4. habaholic68NJ says:

Don’t know what happened to the thread but I vote over.  30G

  5. SmartDog says:

What kind of dog is that?

Re. 4, the Cap is a formula really, so it’s not a judgement thing, it’s more like accounting – knowing the rules. I think software could be created.

Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!

  6. habaholic68NJ says:

    1. AK47 and Pouliot.  Both are in a position to make or break their carreers.

    2.  $2.75 million

    3.  No.  He is a great player but not a captain.  Hew is more suited as an assistant captain.

    4.  I hate the CAP.

    5.  Let them bitch.  Can easily skip the comment.

  7. twocents says:

    I responded.

    Saw a bunch after too.

All was good. Nothing funky goin’ on. Have no clue.

    I was over, btw.

  8. SmartDog says:

    Good answer to 3.

Besides that, you’re off my Christmas card list.

Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!

  9. Bugs says:

Earlier today, I posted a 22.5 over/under question on number of goals for my boy Poolio. Askin y’all to call it.

Came back just now to check in on results. Post is deleted. Does not exist no more. Is gone unto nothingness. Only emptiness remains where my utter brilliance once shone.

Question is: what the HELL happened on that thread? That it degenerated so?

You animals, what did you do?!

If you haven’t read Dryden’s “The Game”, you should. It’s excellent.

  11. SeriousFan09 says:

    1. Eller and White (I still think he makes the team).

    2. 2.25-2.5 mil per.

    3. Not really, he’s always been the MVP for me in the last several years and captaincy, no I’d call him the leader of the defence but I think he’s a guy who best excels when just asked to play his game.

    4. Considering how useless basic word processing software can be, I doubt it would be that reliable.

    5. Those who try to shout out others.

    - I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  12. kempie says:

    1. Eller

    2. 2.25

    3. Love the guy. Period.

    4. Duh.

I was just given a 25$ gift card for Coles/Chapters Book store and I am looking to buy a good hockey book to read.

Since Guy Carbonneau has not written his book yet about what really happened to the team in it’s 100 year season, I need to find another book.

I am thinking of buying the Theo Fleury book. Has anyone read it and is it worth buying and reading. Anyone know of any other good hockey books to buy. Thanks.

  14. twocents says:

Of course it isn’t. He was also the GM of the farm team and had other duties added with his vice president of hockey operations title.

And it’s not just cap crap, it’s the whole CBA and it’s implications in the day to day.

And, btw, they did take him right out of law school I believe. He was like 24 when he started with the team.

And he bears a resemble to the Breeze, he’s got to be a cousin or something. Or is it more Quintal?

  15. SmartDog says:

Based on some of your posts, I think that’s a good call.

What bugs me on HIO is people that take everything literally, take it too seriously, and generally see things as black and white, with their views being right and others being wrong.

It’s for discussino for crying out loud.  The only crime is not having an opinion. That and trying to stop people from having opinions.

Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!

  16. ed lopaz says:

smart dog, here’s the deal on HIO. if you have something postive to say, then bring it on, because that’s an acceptable post. If you want to be cynical, just don’t bother. It doesn’t matter that we haven’t won the cup for 17 years, all is well in HIO “fairy tale” land, and it always will be!!

  17. Danno says:

If I’m good at removing  caps off of beer bottles, does that make me a capologist?

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  18. HabFab says:

Can’t argue with that…sorry but you are on your own. Take it like a man!!

  19. The Capitalist Pig says:

They have made several appearances in the Finals though.

  20. The Capitalist Pig says:

I love the whole “capologist” thing. Is that like a full-time job? No, seriously, is it? You could take any kid out of college with an applied math degree and it might take him three hours a week to do that chore. The real question is what else were they paying this Brisebois geezer to do?

  21. HabFab says:

Yeah, but Phillie hasn’t won any!

    15 – love

  22. The Capitalist Pig says:

Come to think of it, the Habs have won only one Stanley Cup since I’ve been married. Now I know who’s fault it is!

  23. HabFab says:

BS, you come here to release some of that sarcasm and negative creativity so that your wife doesn’t do a Phillie on your a** ;)

  24. HabFab says:

Don’t let them get to you bro. They are the unhappy ones, don’t let them drag you down also. Just imagine how unhappy they would have been if we had gone to the finals or heaven forbid even won the Cup last season.

  25. The Capitalist Pig says:

We lost The Breezer? How the hell did the Molsons let that happen?

  26. The Capitalist Pig says:

I come here for the Halak/Price stuff. The rest of it is just fluff!

  27. The Capitalist Pig says:

If a post doesn’t mention Halak or Price, it’s just not worth responding to!

  28. twocents says:

Frank, I should give up this site, is what I should give up.

  29. SeriousFan09 says:

Cap specialists are becoming a common thing with any pro league that has a salary cap, my father told me about what he read for the NFL cap experts and their ways of working the system for their team’s benefit, it was quite something what they could weasel out. A financial expert with an encyclopedic knowledge of the CBA to examine how to best work the salary cap would seem a prudent thing to have. Also, just because Brisebois was our cap guy doesn’t necessarily mean he was cool with the Gomez thing but the trade was in Gainey’s hands in the end, all Brisebois could do was work a way for the cap to manage it, you think he’s not hoping Vinnie is traded out of TB to make his life easier?

Canadiens can’t just sack their current management personnel to make room for the young guys in case they are able to take over. The idea was let them get experienced in the organization and then take over as the older management personnel retired or moved on. Credit Yzerman for having a very brave approach to his management operation, but he’s a first-year GM, who has a first-year NHL coach with a first-year NHL assistant GM and made a high-risk 6th overall pick with Brett Connolly, who could have chronic hip issues for all we know. He’s taking a lot of risks in his first year as a GM. Also, it would stand to reason if the Canadiens are able to hire such good young personnel once, it is entirely possible they could recruit such people again.

    - I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

  30. HabFanSince72 says:

I’m willing to bet not one of you knew who Brisebois was last week, and that even now not one of you knows whether or not  he was good at his job, or in fact what his job really was.

But it’s all “Oh no we lost Brisebois!”
