BGL has made it official.
The NHL’s loss is environmentalism’s gain.

Jarred Tinordi has been cut by the U.S. junior team.
Now before everyone gets their knickers in a twist and starts whining about a wasted draft choice, please remember that Tinordi is only 18.
Know who was cut by Team Canada as an 18-year-old?
Louis Leblanc.
• • •
• Arpon Basu on Jacques Martin, Carey Price and Louis Leblanc
• Jaro will like this: Erik Johnson re-ups
• Ottawa gets smaller on the blueline, as Andy Sutton signs with the Ducks.

P.S. on Tinordi – 5 of the 9 defensemen remaining for the U.S. roster were born in February 1992 (his birth month/year) or later, so don’t give me the 18 year old excuse. One of ‘em isn’t even draft eligible until 2011 and our guy was drafted above 3 of the 4 others who have been drafter. RIOT!!
http://www.usahockey.com/Template_Usahockey.aspx?NAV=TU_04_01_06&ID=290308
the signing of BGL was Gainey over rotating after the Habs got pounded by the Flyers in the playoffs. Let the team get too soft then knee jerk reaction to fix the problem. did not complete his due dilligence and the rest is history. guess what folks – its happening again. Habs have 2 choices – get 2 or 3 tough players who can skate every day (Prust, Rypien, Neil type guys- etc) or sign a HW cause its gonna happen again. wait till this Habs team has to play T.O, Philly, Rangers – etc…its too bad it will be reactionary again.
So my low-ball $1.5M for one year may not be so dumb after all?
FREE TIMO!
The Niemi situation just pushed Price’s salary down. Like I said many times before, 2.25 million for 2 years and I would modify that to 2.5 a year if he signs for 3. I doubt he commits to 4 years at that rate.
Price has little option but to sign.
I was talking with one of my good friends about the Habs situation and the Halak trade. He bluntly stated that before all was said and done he was more worried about Price coming back to haunt us than Halak. I concur.
T³!!!
So I need the opinion of a capologist. If BGL has officially retired, and since he is only 33, does his salary now come off the books, at least as far as cap space goes?
As a player, Mike Ribeiro…
NOT as a player, Réjean Houle
Both I hope for obvious reasons…

Excuse me, Ian…but why do you have such a hate on for the Green party – you know, the only party that actually cares about the important things, like the earth we all live on, the water we drink, and the air we breathe? These things are aklso considered the basics of survival…
BGL aside, the Green Party deserve respect.

Also really any of the floaters from about 96-04′, and there were many.
There are many players that are plain bad, (i.e MAB’s defensive play), but I can’t say I “hate” them for not being NHL calibre players.
Careful Doug. Those who advocate anything under $2.5M will have their sanity questioned by half this site. The other half want Halak back at any price.
FREE TIMO!
Nasty wasn’t it. It still hurts when i think of those two clowns. Set us back 10 years.
I agree Smedley.
Hate is a strong word. Dislike the most-Pierre Dagenais.
If Nitti is worth 2 mil, than so is Price. And you’re way off base regarding Auld. There are plenty of goalies – with contracts – who are worse than him.
Well at least then he’d have a chance to go after the puppy mill industry and those who profit from it.
That’s not a bad payoff, imo.

I could never hate any player who puts on the best jersey in all of hockey.
Until he’s elected to Parliament
i can’t say from seeing him on the ice but i met Ribeiro at an old job of mine, didn’t know who he until after the fact but he left a bad impression behind and im happy to see sergei gone laraque too
good stuff
Hmmm, Habs I’ve hated (I’m 46).
Mario Tremblay (way before he was coach), Gilles Lupien, Bobby Smith (once a North Star/Hab killer in ’80, always..), Denis Herron, Jean Perron (yeah I hated a coach), Chris Nilan (I met him at DJ’s Pub in ’86, ’nuff said), Bob Sebra (oops, sorry, an Expo), Gilbert “It’s My Goal! It’s My Gooaal!!” Dionne, Andrei Kovalenko, Peter “The Gentle Giant” Popovic, Mike Ribeiro, Andrei Markov, Jaro Halak… don’t ask.
If we pay Price more than $2M in this environment we got robbed. Oh, and Alex Auld may be the worst goalie in the league- I’m sure some crappy guy would have taken league minimum given cap environment.
Hainsey turned out to be an OK NHLer and McDonagh may still turn out to be a decent D man.
XXIV…and counting
That’s what I said Doug, some players have gone on to play better with other teams given the chance to play. Chipchura could have a fine career in Anaheim as well.
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
Therapy or meds?
XXIV…and counting
Chipchura doesn’t deserve to be on that list, that tendon injury badly impacted his career.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Kovy, ever since the slash he took in the Bruins play-off game. So much talent so little results. Loved Claude and felt more sorry for Thibout (spelling) rather than disliked, no one could have come in to replace Roy and succeeded here.
Cassels was pretty good (for other teams) and McDonagh may be.
George Laraque, with a bullet.
Runners up: Gilbert Dionne, Gilles Lupien, Guillaume Latendresse, Darcy Tucker
Dis-honorable mentions: Mike Ribiero, Sergei Kostitsyn, Sergei Samsanov
XXIV…and counting
I would have to go with Ribeiro.
Nonsense. You know who hated Claude? EVERY OTHER TEAM. Not the Habs.
I keep praying that Lapierre turns into Claude Lemieux. A man can dream.
Hey guys read the Arpon Basu post linked above. I’ve never read him before and it is interesting and reasoned, no matter where you are are the issues.
See, i can write something without slamming either The Price or The Smurf
Wow. Just wow. How old are you? Do you know of the backhand against Mike Liut?
with the salary cap there will be many 3rd and 4th line players and no 6 and 7 d who are better than the ones playing in the nhl but most of the top talent will still remain in the nhl….. the gap between teams is not that great…if you make the playoffs anything can happen…the habs last year over 82 games had a losing record in regulation time and were outplayed in about 75% of the games yet made it to the semis …
1st. on the Metro conversation. I am very pleased that he has obtained work over seas. For a smaller man he played his heart out for us and earned his money here.
2nd. unlike George who is now a crooked green BUM.
3rd. Tremblay conversation, not much to say about this fool.
Boone et al.
Can this be the last official post about BGL, too?
Charbonneau, Bildodeau, Pederson, Cassels, Wilkie, Ryan, Fischer, Charron, Vallis, Brown, Higgins (Matt and Chris), Ward, Choiunard, Hainsey, Perezhogin, Chipchura. McDonagh,. Not including Price, Tinordi or Leblanc.
Pretty sad state in the past 25 years our club has drafted poorly in the entry draft as their first overall pick.
Mind you, some players have gone onto play better with other clubs.
I still am not going to get excited about Leblanc, Tinordi and even our “franchise” goaltender in Price.
I’ll see it when I believe it.
The entry draft means nothing to me anymore in terms of our team drafting their first overall pick, it means nothing based on our track record.
“We will win the Cup one day only with ? in the nets “
In alphabetical order and by position? LMAO You really put some thought into it, or you had a list already made and anxiously awaiting this topic.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
Wouldn’t that be hilarious? To ending up replacing Halak with another Euro goalie same age (I think) and roughly same pay.
Niemi, however, has an edge because I know for a fact that he can drive a Zamboni. Not sure even The Price can do that.
I couldnt stand him as a player before he ever thought of being coach.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
The Green Giant, has climbed his last bean stock. He can only water them now.!
HIO 2010 Fan Summit Updates–Nov.5,6,7. Itinerary listed on this link
Book your room at this # and tell them you are with Habs Inside Out Group or HIO to get the deal rate everyone.
The hotel number for Novotel reservations is: 1-514-871-2138
Come out and meet your wonderful HIO community, see you all in Montreal.!!
AHA!!!! ………I knew it Doug! Samsonov lover!! I hereby accuse you of HIO treason (before 24 cups does it too).
I debated Racicot. . . but he was a bit player. I never got into the Ribeiro hate. Gilbert Dionne and his self-pointing “I got the goal! I got the goal!” was memorably annoying.
For a team around as long as the Habs was hard to come up even with 19 players. . . and only maybe 4 or 5 I don’t care for. Laraque’s near the top for me, and Price is as well because of his premature annointment and his antics like shooting puck at the Capitals when they scored, etc.
C.Lemieux.
What does this have to do with Niemi?
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
I debated over (paddle down, puck up) Thibault and (what does this guy actually do?)Traverse for my pick. And I thought Leeman was too far gone for ppl to remember but HE SUCKED!

Here are mine, in alphabetical order by position. If disliked only due to playing style there is an asterisk.
Goalies:
1. Carey Price
2. Jocelyn Thibault*
Defense:
1. Marc-Andre Bergeron*
2. Patrice Brisebois*
3. Donald Dufresne*
4. Bryan Fogarty*
5. Dave Manson
6. Patrick Traverse*
Offense:
1. Aaron Asham
2. Marius Czerkawski*
3. Gilbert Dionne
4. Aaron Downey*
5. Mikhail Grabovski
6. John Kordic*
7. Sergei Kostitsyn
8. Georges Laraque
9. Gary Leeman*
10. Garth Murray*
11. Patrick Poulin*
That’s pretty much the entire list of players I don’t particularly care for who have ever worn the jersey. I’m lukewarm on Gomez – just annoys me. And Patrick Roy, though it’s heresy, was an arrogant prick by the time he won the second cup.

Easely my most hated coach. He set us back 10 years.

…………..man these guys make more money than we could ever dream of …..thank them???pfff…………i’ll thank them when we win the cup again.
Ribeiro, his rolling on the ice was shameful.

He’ll probably do better elsewhere. Its tough for a goalie when your team dominates offensively most of the time.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
i think he was the leading scorer in that league when he last played there?
“what a gamble it is”—– true but when gainey and gauthier are the ones picking!
All time: Mario Tremblay. I truly could not and still cannot stand that co%#$#^er. I hope L’attaque a cinq will come back with some revamped nightly show cause I wont watch L’antichambre with Tremblay on.
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
…ahemmmm….niemi sucks ……man u could strap the pads on red light racicot and he’d of won the cup with the hawks…..price is waayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.
I agree he was really likeable, and a good player. For his time as a Hab I will remember his performance in the Habs skills/shooting competition (after Cammalleri). I was hoping he would stay in the NHL. All the best Metro.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
he’s 27 only 1 full year.
I dont see what the fuss is about Leblanc. We’ve had lots of highly touted draft picks go bust which is natural considering what a gamble it is.
I think his odds of actually playing in the NHL at this point are maybe 25%.
We currently have one of our home developed centers playing and there doesnt seem to be much chance of Maxwell working out and Desharnais is not really a prospect due to his size.
That leaves us with Ryan White as a last ditch hope for a drafted center to make the team.
How about for a change of pace we all list our most disliked/hated Habs of all time.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
I hope it’s a good contract, he earned it! Thanks for everything Metro!
Hear, hear!
TSN reporting that Metro signed in the swiss league…

I’d just like to take a moment to say thanks to Glen. He was always one of my favorite players and he just seemed like a generally really nice guy.
I, for one, am sick and tired of hearing about him..Who cares what he does?
He is to politics what he was to hockey.
I find he BGL bashing laughable. You people take all of this too seriously, I hope you all are joking with your attacks on him.
hells no……
If theres ever an HIO award for best pic, that Green Giant one should be a finalist!
[Disclaimer]: I’m a hockey fan. I care about the habs, but probably not as much as you.
Tyler Seguin was cut from the Junior squad, as well..
Antti Niemi will be a great fit in Montreal. If Price continues to stall negotiations ,then why not sign a proven stanley cup winner? Why not go for it and get value for our money , Niemi is similar to Halak and is a winner. Who would you want in net this year , Price or Niemi ? My choice is Niemi and make him a Hab for at least three years. Then we wouldn’t hate the Halak deal so much!
I had the same reaction. What’s Leblanc done other than get cut and fail out of Harvard – the story will come out on that. This is an unmitigated disaster!
Reminding us that another of our draft picks was cut by a junior team – that is supposed to make us feel better?
I prefer Sergei. Was great pre-Habs and didn’t get a hate-on for him as others seem to have.
Let’s take a guy who is 5’8 and make him a 3rd line checker.
For whatever reason Rucinsky really got under my skin. Im not sure of his popularity here on HI/O.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
i loved Rucinsky. . . he probably got under your skin because of who we was traded for and with (Roy/Keane and T-Bo/Kovalenko, respectively)
You could be right, but I just didnt like the ‘cut of his jib’ but I cant really back that up. It was his last 2-3 years in MTL that I started disliking him.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
I shudder everytime I think of the name Rucinsky! For me, the name Rucinsky marks a ‘turning point’ moment in HABS history. When offensive mediocrity became standard for the Montreal Canadiens. I remember the number 49. He led the HABS with 49 points. YES… 49 POINTS! I know it’s unfair but everytime I think of the downhill slide that has been Mtl’s offense and star power and how today’s fans seem so accepting of that mediocrity… I think of Rucinsky. The most recent display of fans misguided idolatry for a hab who gave Rucinskian like effort with Rucinskian like consistency is the demonstrations staged when Kovalev was sent packing.
Imagine all the habs greats sadly shaking their heads when they saw fans marching for mediocrity.
Hopefully there is a player on the horizon who has true Habs greatness and star power and who will show the newer generations of fans what a ‘great’ montreal canadiens player is.
It was pretty well known when he was a Penguin that Laraque had issues with his back and groin. That is why it was such a shock when Gainey signed him for three years at that salary.
If a club fails to do the proper due diligence I don’t tend to blame the player for taking the contract.
‘Cogito ergo doleo’
was a healthy scratch for the entire red wings/penguins finals that year yet gainey still gave him a 3 year no-trade cointract that will still cost habs in the future.
exactly. Boone is BANG ON.
but god forbid any of us sitting in the bleachers should say 1 critical word about Gainey the GM.
then we’re branded villains, and traitors, and St Louis Blues fans.
I don’t disagree that Gainey must have gotten a hold of the infamous “Boone Bong” on this one, and I would have a hard time walking away from the Habs offering me that kind of dough dispite my bad knee.
But a deception is a deception.
Maybe if he didn’t spend his off time (though he had so much of it I’m sure it was difficult to fill) acting like a buffoon in commercials and whoring out his local celebrity in a way the likes of which haven’t been seen around these parts since the days of Gary Carter, then it would be easier to swallow.
“The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.”- Randy Pausch
That I agree with wholeheartedly. The guy was also a complete jerk about the timing of getting his distracting act out of the locker room then dared to say it was insensitive because of his Haitian heritage (which everyone jumped on the bandwagon about as cruel), and said he’d be back.
He’s a buffoon, and I’d say it to his face as long as there were 50 meters in front of me to run. . . he wouldn’t come after me because he’s 45 pounds heavier and he’d pull his groin if he bothered to try to pursue me.
man ur ugly, scary pic ughhh
WOW! So not cool. I have to disagree.

WTF she’s a babe!

Two of the remaining kids on the US Junior team are John Ramage and Ryan Bourque. I wonder if they are the sons of Rob Ramage and Ray Bourque?
Yes they are.
love the pic
well now he’ll be doing something he’s good at ..good for him… and i don’t know why but all the stuff about price got me thinkng about agents and then thinking about agents got me thinking about jerry mcguire and the line..show me the money….and then i thought of tom cruise and i cried, but i digress do agents ALWAYS have their clients wellbeing in mind? could it be that price really does enjoy playing here and he’s willing to sign whatever but his agent is hardballing it? who knows…now please don’t persecute me for bringing it up im really just musing out loud here, doesn’t mean im right or wrong..just curious
I think you mistook Tom Cruise for another person. It was actually Ilya Kovalchuk who said “SHOW ME THE MONEYY!”
cool, thanks.
does BGL retiring help out our buyout cap hit?
Im thinking no, because we already bought him out. I could be wrong though.
______________________________________ Gionta for Captain.
Not surprised about Laraque retirement. With so many NHLers out of a job right now, Laraque is wayyy at the back of the line. Not many teams would even take him at the league minimum. He’s damaged goods.
Very surprised that Tinordi was cut. He was captain of the USA U18 National Development team. Also, I guess Danny Kristo is no longer eligible to play?
Correct-o-mundo.
—————————————–
Josh Gorges for Captain!
Habs management should sue Laraque for misrepresentation. This guy had no intention of coming here to do what he was being paid for. He knew how baldly he was injured and that he could not play or fight anymore.
He pulled a fast one on the Montreal Canadiens and their fans took and the money to line his pockets for a few more years.
Gainey and Co. should be embarrased for not doing their due dilligence on this one, but that doesn’t absolve Laraque of his guilt.
“The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.”- Randy Pausch
I think it’s all on Gainey. How do you not get a thorough physical evaluation on a head-knocker with groin issues? Man, if I had terminal cancer and some idiot wanted to pay me $.15 million guaranteed per, with a no-movement clause, per for three years, would I send him my x-rays or a signed contract?
hang on. Boone’s comment about BGL got my mind reeling… A negative loss is a positive gain, and a negative gain is really a positive loss. So did hockey win and the Green Party lose? Or did… ummm. Whatever… So long Georges, you classless person, you!
