Hip, hip, Huet: shutout in Caps debut

It’s nice when good things happen to good guys.

Former Canadiens goalie Cristobal Huet, traded Tuesday to the Washington Capitals, earned an 18-save shutout tonight – the 16th of his career and third this season – in his debut with his new team, a 4-0 decision over the New Jersey Devils.

Huet’s performance surely didn’t hurt the Canadiens, who beat Buffalo 6-2 Friday night. Montreal faces New Jersey Saturday at the Bell Centre, and with a victory will pass the Devils for the Eastern Conference lead. An action photo of Huet is below.

Our goaltending so deep, Bob sent one away to do battle against our other rivals while we beat someone else. Bob said “there is only one net”, maybe he found a second.

    In Bob we Trust.

    Good stuff, Huet!!
We in Montreal know your a great goaltender, and we’re going to miss yah. With Huet, I think the Caps have a great shot of making the playoffs.

Amazing things happen when you play in a small market city with no pressure.

It’s great to see the supportive comments for Huet.

And Dave @HIO, nice touch. One classy guy giving props to another classy guy ;-) — I think you know what I mean.

  14. JF says:

Good for Huet. I hope this sweetens the trade a bit for him. I know he was really sad to leave Montreal, but he’s a classy guy and will do his best for his new team. Very happy for him.

I’m not too pleased. I have Kolzig in my fantasy pool and don’t want to see him fade into obscurity.

happy to hear this; you’re a class act cristobal!

  17. Mr.Hazard says:

THATS MA BOY!!! I bought one of his 50%-off t-shirts today at the Bell Centre. I bought it for the 4-letter word on the back of it, and for the logo on the front. Even if the two don’t go together anymore. :)

See you April 5th at the Bell Centre!

  20. Sehs says:

Maybe next year we’ll have a team that can actually perform in the SW division and not shame that top 3 in the conference rule!

  22. Proudones says:

I’m so happy for Huey! I still wish he was a Hab and it kinda hurts to see him in a Caps jersey but these things happen…I just wish that the crowd started chanting ” HUET! HUET! HUET!, but it’s Washington, not Montreal.

    Good Job Mr. Huet.

  28. Corio says:

    Congrats Cristo!

  29. moser17 says:

I’m happy for him, he deserves it, Washington fans deserve it. Fuel to the fire, and fanning the flames for Kolzig, like Blitzen said …. now: let Huet and the Caps destroy everyone in the East, put Kolzig in when they play the Habs, and the Habs will win.

He looks good in a Caps uniform. The MTL colours work.

  30. showey47 says:

Good job huet. A change of scenery will probably do him some good. Especaily in a situation where he can take someone’s job instead of worrying about someone taking his job like what was happening in montreal. Its easy to see why people were upset about huet being traded. First of all he is a class act and humble by always giving his teammates credit before himself. It makes him very likable by the fans and media. It was a tough decision by bob also i’m sure, he had a zero maintenace goalie (unlike someone like emery) who never complained about anything and worked hard. But thats the nature of the business. Fan favourites get traded, its happend before and it will happen again.

  31. nick says:

    Nice work Huet!

Sucks because he’s going in to “i’ll show you mode”…

    Who cares…. 6-2 ;)

  32. tony d says:

an early Christmas gift to Washington….consider yourselves blessed and fortunate to have such a great guy
thanks for everything Cristobal…you rock man
    bonne chance !!

  33. Holyirishman says:

Who would have thought this time last week that Huet AND Price would both play the full 60 minutes last night??!
