Happy parade, Boston

They’re expecting a million or more Bruins fans to line the streets of Boston this morning for the team’s Stanley Cup parade. Good for them; hope they enjoy. There is nothing like a Cup parade.

And in a flashback to a classic oops, the last time the Bruins had their team engraved on Lord Stanley’s chalice, BOSTON was misspelled, Qs used in place of Os.

PG is making the same mistake with keeping what’s stale as Gainey did with the likes of Koivu, and no matter how often Gainey tried to find size to support Koivu, it did not work. It is hard to find forwards who are wiling to sacrifice a career to feed the puck to players like Gomez.

Score has changed. Habs 24 – Boston 6.

  3. HabFanSince72 says:

I think I understand why the front page hasn’t changed since Saturday.

With the Bruins winning the cup nothing means anything any more. This has not sunk in for many of you, but for this team of thugs to thug their way to the Stanley Cup degrades the entire sport.

It’s like Kissinger winning the Nobel Peace prize.

  4. SmartDog says:

    1. ON D. In a best possible scenario, a lot of people say PG signs both Marky and the Whiz AND finds a taker for Spacek? Could that actually happen?
    2. JA–GRRRRR BABY! Would you take Jagr for 3 million/1 year? Is Jagr on a 1-year contract as good a scenario as we’re likely to get up front?
    3. TOP 6 F. If not Jagr, who is the most LIKLEY upgrade to our top 6 forwards? Put your thinking caps on…. who has Martin coached who’s available?
    4. DEPTH FORWARDS. Do our depth forwards need replacing? This is not too hard to do usually and some have said Pyatt and Moen at least are too 1-dimensional to be clutch contributors.
    5. BACK-UP. Ramo had a great year and would make a good back-up. But Ramo isn’t coming. Was this a bad trade? And who should PG try to get?

    • HabFanSince72 says:

      1. An even better scenario would be getting Ehrhoff or Bieksa, but that is unlikely. So yes, Wiz and Marky is our best outcome.

      2. $3M is too much. He was already declining 4 years ago, and now he is 39.

      3. Spezza. Don’t want him.

      4. We need a 3rd line that scores, and a 4th line that soetimes scores.

      5. Biron.

    • G-Man says:

      1. Spacek not going anywhere- added cap space makes Wiz possible. That would leave Weber very tradeable. Too small anyway.
      2. 2 to 2.5 mil max for Jagr.
      3. I am going for Laich, whether or not Martin has coached him- a physical 20 goal scorer is needed if Jagr is signed OR not.
      4. Talbot is available- another Cup winner for depth.
      5. The Ramo trade was for insurance- if Price has a career threatening injoury or the like. Drop Auld and get McIntyre or Sanford as Price back up.

    • Hobie Hansen says:

      1. Forget Markov and go with Wisniewski. Younger, meaner and better shot. Also has missed 5 game due to injury in last three years.

      2. Even though I want toughness I still might take Jagr! If they added a couple depth a couple more depth players on lines 3 and 4 to make up for it.

      3. There’s a couple guys besides Jagr like Laich, Upshall or if you wanted to settle for offense only you could go after Frolov or Jokinen.

      4. Moen is great for the 4th line first of all. Put White on the other wing with Moen and put Konopka between them.

      5. Auld is fine.

  5. Stuck_in_To. says:

For those interested in Jagr, Spector is now reporting the Canadiens as “disinterested”: http://spectorshockey.net/wordpress/?p=5919

    • SmartDog says:

Yvon Pednault also reported on this story, noting Gauthier has other priorities than Jagr.
…Other priorities? Besides SCORING? The Red Wings are kicking his tires and PG turns up his nose. New year, same sh$t from the Habs.

      • HabFanSince72 says:

If PG thought a retired player was the priority, I’d be worried.

        • ManApart says:

If PG was the man deciding what the priorities are, I’d be worried……Oh, wait…….

Ya, Smart Dog is right, New Year, Same Sh*t

        • SmartDog says:

And 5 years ago would you have said of Tim Thomas “who cares about a goalie who couldn’t make it to the NHL until his 4th decade?”
Jagr’s not an ordinary player. And I don’t know what that means… but we NEED scoring. My fear is PG will pick up another bad contract to play with Gomez. That’s what I’m expecting. Jagr did well with Pleks and who better to say if he’s NHL ready than Plekanec himself? And at 1-year, it’s not a huge gamble. And talk about ‘intangibles’. Many players grew up idolizing this guy… to play with him for a year would be a special experience.

    • nunacanadien says:

PG is making the same mistake with keeping what’s stale as Gainey did with the likes of Koivu, and no matter how often Gainey tried to find size to support Koivu, it did not work. It is hard to find forwards who are wiling to sacrifice a career to feed the puck to players like Gomez. Gretzky was lucky to find his lineman Messier. Is there a Messier out there that we can hook up with Jagr if he comes? No. Do we have a Messier now to make Gomez play his full potential? No. There is hope that Yemelin and other recent signings are the potential replacements. All the can do is learn the bad tricks taught by Gomez. Play slow hockey, play hurt, and compliment your fans in hopes of them not noticing just how bad of a hockey player you can be.

  6. Dwayne33 says:

Not sure why there are so many people who think we need to sign Max Talbolt. Sure he is a gritty player, but most people believe that the Habs are already too small. Well Talbot is only 5’11 190lbs. I believe the Habs already have a player with them that is better than him. His name is Ryan White! I know it would be better to have more French guys on our favorite team, so we all should start calling him “Rene Blanc”! He is younger, faster, and tougher than Talbot.

    • HabFanSince72 says:

I like White and I think he’ll be a good one, but Talbot is better right now. Also Talbot is a C. He would be a Jeff Halpern replacement.

  7. HalifaxHabs says:

oh and by the way, I got a message from this site saying someone was trying to change my password.

I can only imagine which pathetic Bruins fan was hoping to hack my account so they could post as me.

Maybe the mods can see what IP address tried to change my password, and match it up with someone who regularily accesses this site, and boot them. I know I know, I’m dreaming.

  8. CP31 says:

This has probably been posted already but I’ve thought this about Marchand for a while and I’m glad to see that Bruce Dowbiggin of The Globe & Mail has pointed out the hypocrisy against players like Subban (ie/ Mike Richards, Joffrey Lupul, Mike Milbury and the always ignorant Don Cherry:

The jist of it is: “One final thought on rookie Marchand: How come when he abuses a superstar he’s applauded by Hockey Night in Canada and the media as a savvy kid who gets under the skin to win. But when Montreal Canadiens rookie P.K. Subban did the same, we were told by the same voices that he was a punk with no respect who needed to be taken down a notch? Is it because Marchand is a Bruin, a sacred squad on Hockey Night, because Sedin is a European or because Marchand is white while Subban is black, or all of the above. Take all the time you need to answer.”

  9. HalifaxHabs says:

ok ok, I’m never one to complain about content on this site, but come on guys, off all articles to leave up since Saturday morning… You’re killing us. Just put up a picture of PK changing tires at the Grand Prix or something.

    • Marc10 says:

PG has to do something. I think HIO is forcing his hand in resigning Markov by leaving Boston content up. It’s both cruel and unusual to hold the HIO community hostage like this so that everyone’s favourite Russian gets inked by Pierre.

It’s either that or that Jacob’s guy out is even more powerful than we ever imagined. Not only does he hold Gary by the balls, he’s got the Gazette by the short hairs too!

In other science fiction news, Jagr…

“To be irreplaceable, you have to be different”.
      Andy Warhol

      Go PK Go!

      • HalifaxHabs says:

LOL… Jacobs is planning a hostile takeover of the Gazette, so he can leave this picture up on our site indefinitely.

        OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

    • SmartDog says:

I was gonna post the same thing. LOL
TSN still has their Boons cup article up, but Why TF is it still up on here. Give us a break Boone. Oh…. Boons… Boone… now I get it. 🙂

    • G-Man says:

BQSTQN on the Cup is funny. Seeing it 3 days in a row here is painful. Run an old picture of Carbo giving the cameraman the finger from the golf course or something.

  10. arcosenate says:

I am a bit confused as to what this rise in cap will actually do, according to NHLnumbers we are at $62 million now. That’s not exactly a ton of wiggle room, that can’t be right can it?
