Halak gets Game 2 call

Jacques Martin has pegged Jaroslav Halak to start Game 2 this afternoon.

(And he announced it a full 1:45 before game time.)

No word yet on whether we see Sergei Kostitsyn or Mathieu Darche inserted into the lineup.

  1. Got2BHabs says:

Price faced 3 shots, I’d hardly call that shutting them down

“This kid is going to win a Stanley Cup one day and hopefully I’ll be with him when that happens” – Saku Koivu

  2. MICP says:

    Glad I was wrong

  3. adam76 says:

Unreal.  This is the playoffs – you have to go with your best lineup every single game.

  4. MICP says:

    Darche is in per Boone

  5. MICP says:

I agree with you and thats why I would have gone with Price today.  If Jaro is tired plus it is an early game today my fear is that he will get lit yet again.

  6. MICP says:

With that said, I hope that I am wrong.

  7. Bill J says:

No – Because Halak got a FULL game’s rest.

Also allowed Jaro to watch the Caps from a different angle.

He sure came back with fire in his game.

I assume if JM chose Jaro, it’s because the fire is still burning in Jaro though.

  8. nick says:

Halak got 1 games rest then proceeded to blow Washington out of the water.

I wouldn’t object to sitting Halak for a game after the other night (0.75 SV %).

Price shut Pittsburgh down for 15 minutes the other night, something Halak did not do. The kid in my opinion deserves a start.

  9. vic says:

I would have a close watch on him in the first. If hes still tired he might be fighting the puck

  10. KenD29 says:

Yes, then Halak and company won 3 straight!

Tonight we skate with them, Tonight is our night!

  11. habs-hampton says:

Who is in for Markov?   SK74 or Darche.  I hope its Darche.

  12. StefG says:

Martin was smart to pull Halak in the 3rd last game. Had he not, the right move would’ve been to start Price tonight. Halak is definitely the way to go. However, there has to be huge concern about MAB playing defense… I have a lot of confidence in PK and have been saying for a year that he will be a star in the NHL, but getting Spacer back would’ve been huge.

  13. dudurules says:

price should start… worked last series…

  14. pmaraw says:

hows your coversation going with the wall?

  15. MontrealAtheist says:

    Amen to that.

  16. slapshot777 says:

That’s why it would have made sense to start Price give Jaro a FULL GAME rest so he can see the Pens from a different angle. Anyway the decision has been made we shall see how it turns out. I am hoping that all works out for Jaro and the Habs. I want my beloved Habs to come home all tied 1-1.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

  17. lavie says:

    That’s no-brainer.

  18. riazp says:

I would have rested him…I hope he does not get shelled in the first period and his confidence is reduced to nothingness. All we need to do is adjust to their powerplay and we have a fighting chance in this one.

How sweet would it be to beat the pens on nbc and stick it up bettmans @$$.

  19. Harditya_CareyPrice says:

    Good choice. GO HALAK GO!!

  20. adam76 says:

Why not put in red light instead of Saint Patrick?

  21. Xtrahabsfan says:

Not playing Halak today would be like not playing Dryden against the Bruins……………

  22. Danno says:

I think it was a tough call but I would have gone with Price today.

    • Price was solid on Friday
    • Halak was not at his best
    • Playing Price would give Halak a chance to refocus.
    • If Price wins – mission accomplished
    • If Price loses – go back to Halak – look what happened last time…
    • I hope Martin is right about this and Go Habs Go, Go Halak Go!

“Hey Richard, two minutes for looking so good!”

  23. pmaraw says:

i cant imagine his leash will have 5 links in it.

  24. nickster13 says:

Halak is the guy that got us here, he earns the starts. Price hasnt won anything in months, even if he did play well he still lost. And If Price wins, the argument doesnt end, people will say start Price the game after, so Halak was the right choice

  25. jkirk says:

If we are going to defeat our enemy, we will need to use our brains, rather than our brawn!
