Habs to overnight in N.Y.

The Canadiens have cancelled their plans to fly out of New York tonight after their game against the Islanders. The team will return to its hotel postgame, likely practice in Uniondale tomorrow morning and fly to Washington in the afternoon to prepare for Tuesday’s game against the Capitals.

The Gazette’s Pat Hickey is nearing Long Island, having a chuckle at the Florida plate in front of him in the middle lane with its emergency flashers. He said he’s seen dozens of Quebec-plated cars heading toward New York and at least a few large buses full of Habs fans. Expect tonight’s contest to be almost a home game for the Canadiens, as it was 51 weeks ago tonight.
