Habs play game of baseball on ice in Carolina

The Canadiens prepared for their final game of 2013 with a friendly game of baseball on ice during Monday’s informal practice in Carolina as they got ready to face the Hurricanes on New Year’s Eve (7 p.m., RDS, TSN Radio 690).

The team captained by Alex Galchenyuk won the game.

The Canadiens were coming off a 4-1 loss to the Panthers Sunday night in Florida and The Gazette’s Pat Hickey asked Michel Therrien after Monday’s practice if he had lost his coach’s handbook, wondering if a bag skate might have been in order instead of a game of baseball on ice.

“What is important I believe is the spirit of the hockey team … make sure for us a coaching staff to bring a good atmosphere with the players,” Therrien said. “Last night everyone was frustrating. We believe that there was two goals they should have allowed and the players were frustrating, the coaching staff the same thing. We were all disappointed and we thought this morning was a good time to play a little game and have a lot of fun. I think the guys got a lot of fun today.”

Therrien added that it’s a long season and that “they’re all big games.”

“(The Hurricanes are) fighting to make the playoffs and us it’s the same thing, we’re part of a group that wants to make the playoffs,” the coach said. “Every game in the NHL, they’re all demanding, they’re all tough to play.”

After the New Year’s Eve game, the Canadiens travel to Dallas to face the Stars on Thursday night, then return home to play the Ottawa Senators Saturday at the Bell Centre.

    Would anyone here take Kadri?
If he wore the CH with pride and respected, like a lifelong fan would (as he was/may still be in secret), and cut out some of his BS, then yeah I think I would.

What, hypothetically speaking of course, would it take to land him?
At this point, it may be addition by subtraction for the Leafs. They will have to re-up his contract and he will want around 5, maybe around the same as Bozak even, and the Leafs are gonna need cap space even though the cap will be going up.

    Hockey sine stercore tauri.

    • CH Marshall says:

I think we’d have to give up a D prospect and a pick for Kadri. Personally I’d take Kadri over DD for their current salaries. Not sure if I’d want to sign Kadri to 5mil

    • habstrinifan says:

Forget the fan-centric nonsense about bs etc. If Kadri were available to the HABS every single poster here would grab him… unless they are ________________.

  2. Storman says:

Problem with the NHL you never know when you will get a game with some intensity and constant urgency,,, during the season has to be a rivalry and even then you never know you might get a dud. Playoff push time and play off hockey ramps up the urgency, and creates some good NHL hockey,,, but this yearly holiday hockey young gun exhibition WJC tournament is very very special,

  3. BJ says:

Good representation for the Habs with De La Rose getting the winner vs Russia and Fucale keeping the team in it and winning player of the game for the good guys.

  4. Storman says:

As PJ Ooops I crapped my pants Stock would say
Le Goaler pour Canada goal bien

    • CH Marshall says:

Good thing he does diaper commercials.

I’m betting a toonie that Stephane Waite is either at the tourney with MB, or at least watching every game closely and giving feedback to Fucale

  5. DDO_Habs_Fan says:

Griffin Reinhart coming back was huge. The Islanders have a really good young D-man. Fucale’s glove save early sent a message to the Americans that it would not be a cakewalk today.

Don’t understand why this team does not get much credit. I know they are young but they have legitimate snipers: Drouin, Mantha, MacDavid, Horvath, Petan, etc. With Reinhart back, Fucale playing like this and shutdown players like Gauthier, they have a good shot.

    • Storman says:

They have a shot if they do not take penalties up the wazoo and Fucale continues to shine,, I agree we have some very good young talent,, but shutdown player like Gauthier is a stretch, face off specialist is as far as i would go there..

  6. Savardian Spin-o-rama says:

Bravo to both teams for putting on a great show! Why can’t the Habs give us one like that? Can’t remember the last time they did.

  7. The Jackal says:

I wonder what Fucale’s locker room name is…
    Fucy? Fucer? Fucaly? Fucaler?

    Hockey sine stercore tauri.

  8. Timo says:

Did anyone find this game slightly more exciting than Habs-Panthers game?

  9. BJ says:

    Boy, now thats hockey.

  10. Storman says:

HMMM I wonder if Fucale is player of the game..

  11. Timo says:

    Phew. Close one.
