Habs not on their way just yet…

The plan had been for the Canadiens to charter out of Long Island at 2:30 pm today. But Mother Nature has spoken loudly again, keeping the Habs on the ground this afternoon.

CJAD play-by-play broadcaster Rick Moffat tells Inside/Out that the Habs remained at the Nassau Coliseum until past 2 pm, the club having practised at noon, then finally was bused back to the hotel where they stayed an extra night last night when the monster storm kept them grounded.

At 4 pm, the Canadiens family was in the hotel lobby with room keys but not yet having checked in, a departure to Washington late afternoon or this evening still possible.

At the same hour, The Gazette’s Pat Hickey was motoring toward the national capital, 50 miles from Delaware on bare and dry or wet roads, expecting to arrive at his destination by 8 p.m. He might be alone at the Verizon Center tomorrow for the morning skate.

who knows… maybe the caps will take them lightly…

  2. Timo says:

I am sure he did it in the most respectful, honorable kind of way. It’s a lot better than running your mouth off a-la Subban.

  3. Timo says:

It’s all part of The System.

  4. Timo says:

There is your excuse. All wrapped up with a bow and ready to go.

  5. samTHEman says:

exactly why he won’t thrive under Martin’s system.

  6. showey47 says:

Feeling bad for the panthers, leading 2-1 lucic runs bryan allen from behind which was a textbook 2 minute boarding call, could have easily be given a 5 minute major but with not call. A minute later the bruins tie it up when they should have been short handed and end up winning in a shootout.

  7. showey47 says:

I feel that when he played in atlanta he played in an unstructured system and was pretty much given the green light to do whatever he wanted as long as he scored goals. But now in jersey he has to play within a structured system which includes defensive responsibilities.

  8. habsfan321 says:

…because he shined in the hockey pressure cooker known as Atlanta, Georgia?

With a 15 year contract, I’m not willing to take that chance.

  9. bigjames says:

looks like the team only took off a few mins ago. so late arrival into wash… not great. but hope they win…

You and I would bolster that effing D …..I think this team lacks a true top talent.

Kovalchuk is not motivated in NJ.Dontcha think he has that top 5 nhl talent still?Does it just vanish like it apparantly has?NO.

He’d relish the pressure ,cameras and eyes all focused on him.Sorta Kovalev-esk…..but better.Kovie would ignite this mofo and blow the effing top off the bell centre.

……imagine a subban dash and out let pass to kovalchuk who fandangles around the d ….and…et la but!

  13. samTHEman says:

a ludacris contract for a even bigger one? NO THANKS

Habs could use Bieksa to bolster the D.

  14. showey47 says:

Blows my mind that we are somehow among the leaders in being short handed and around the bottom when it comes to PP chances. I went back to martin’s coaching record with the sens and his teams in otttawa were among the least penalized every season, but that was before the lockout when penalties were called differently. When he coached florida after the lockout his teams were among the leaders in being shorthanded.

  15. showey47 says:

Where was this dwayne roloson last night? The first two were unstoppable but the other 2 were awful,a long fluttering wrister and a backhand from a near impossible angle.

  16. W35T5ID3 says:

Trade Gomez and Weber for Kovalchuk.DO IT!

    precisely.

The worst girlfriends are the ones who THINK they’re low maintenance but actully are high maintenance.

Our team is actually too soft but the refs treat them like they’re the Flyers.  To me the reason is that they don’t play physical enough so they’re known as being chippy instead. Habs need to flex more muscle and take REAL penalties instead of all these calls for tiny infractions – if you’re going to get one make it worth it. Otherwise, play tight and tough.

Now, your talking, this kid has all the desire to play and win! He makes mistakes, sure he’s a kid! He’ll learn, but at least he seems to give a shit!

timo,it’s different with the molson’s owning this team i expect geoff molson 2 fire these 2 clowns at some point because like his family before him ,he expects to win and these guys don’t know how to winn and he’ll bring in guys that do! however i’m afraid  geoff molson will hire his long time really close and personal friend pierre macguire as g.m.

With all due respect, but didn’t Molsons own the team when these two clowns Mario and Rejean were hired?

  23. kempie says:

    Ouch. Touché.

  24. HabFanSince72 says:

Sorry Timo, I was joking the other day when I said there was a “Worst Hab Fan” competition. You don’t need to do this.

  25. avatar_58 says:

He’s not wrong. I don’t see Martin making it beyond next season, unless we start seeing a coach who CAN adjust. Rather than just “duhurr….bench bench bench! Playoff hockey!”. Gauthier, personally, I’m giving a long leash. Moore and Halpern are both good moves, and let’s face it Halak or Price had to go and Price has played great. He’s here gor another few years.

  26. CanadienBoy says:

Like it PK will because he want it,the game Richard cry baby and Boston( they play dirty )are the games the Habs should always  play SMALL, FAST,DIRTY and never QUIT

  27. punkster says:

Personally I don’t believe people are panicking enough around here. We need a few more losses and blog rumours to sweep the Habs nation before we see the epic heights of panic and depths of depravity we reached last season.

Come on people. You can do better than this. Crank up the rhetoric, jack up the hype and let slip the blogs of bore!

    ***Subbang!!!***

  28. A. Berke says:

Personally not panicking (truth be told I didn’t have high expectations to begin with). However, I’m getting more disappointed (disgusted?) of the way the team is run/coached by JM.

Ok so last night Maxi pads gets a diving call while being hit from behind by an islander at the boards.Surprise …Surprise.BUT….think about it now.All year, like last year…or so it seemed…. we just NEVER got the calls.I mean NEVER.Its not my biased opinion it is FACT.So the refs are…..well……….keeping this sorta thing about the habs in the back of their minds. Are they not? They are….and…

You have to wonder how that impacts the rest of the team. Do they suffer injustices because the officials are executing their unspoken code?

    I think so.

  31. W35T5ID3 says:

Get ridda Moen…Get ridda Maxi pads…..Get ridda Spaceman Spacek…..Get ridda Picard.

Call up Ryan White…..Trade Maxi pads for some tampons and Spaceman can be dealt to a team in need of d men like anaheim or whoever.Have Weber and Subban in the lineup permanantly.Picard as 7th maybe….bah he sux….he can take a hike.

    Anywho….

  32. habs365 says:

have a feeling some of the team don’t get along with Subban…and you know the rest of the story

  33. samTHEman says:

i get the same feeling. i’d like to know who so i can slap the living KCUF out of them

after seeing that link posted down there, i see it’s pleky and lapierre, and possibly others. pleky being my favorite player, it’s going to be tough taking sides. lapierre is expected since he’s a cocky loudmouth. he got into a similar altercation with cammalleri last season where both exchanged some words and sergei seperated them before going off to snort cocaine and do vodka in the locker room.

  34. W35T5ID3 says:

  36. Timo says:

I love Dave (in a very heterosexual manly kind of way) but don’t try to sell him on the fact that JM is doing anything wrong. It’s like trying to convince me that Gomez is a valuable member of this team :)

  37. christophor says:

Am I crazy or should the Habbies take a run at prying that big, french first overall pick off Jersey’s hands?

Their cupboard is bare after the penalties for the Kovalcheque they tried to write.

How about our next two first rounders, Patches and/or Weber, and a second if necessary? Enough?

Am I crazy? Wouldn’t the town love this boy wonder, Couturier?

  38. avatar_58 says:

They would yes, but why the heck would Jersey give it up? They have no hope this season. Firing the coach, if you ask me, was stupid. I would have just stuck with the tanking and taken that pick.

  39. 24 Cups says:

Any deal starts with Subban if you’re NJ.

  40. SLONCOLD says:

so weber and patches and a second round pick for the first overall selection? doubt it

  41. Timo says:

Before you suggest that consider who will be doing the picking and who will be coaching him.

  42. christophor says:

But if they can get a nice package for it, why not? Of course they need something worthwhile in return.

Maybe they need more than that. It’s not like we’re talking about a Crosby. Couturier might be a gem but he isn’t the classic first overall, just like Hall wasn’t. This draft looks deep, but no one as of yet rises far above the pack.

Edit: everything’s for sale at the right price. If it’s not too much, pull the trigger for this guy, I say.

  43. MTLForever says:

i think everyone has their price for things, however, some people set their prices too high like Burke :P

  47. christophor says:

so two first rounders, weber and/or patches, and a second round for the first overall selection? Is that what you meant?

    http://www.habstalkradio.com/2327/subban-plekanec-and-lapierre-practice-

  49. Timo says:

Maybe Subban should have beat the crap out of the rest of the team. He seems to be the only one giving rats behind what happens. The rest of the stiffs are there just to collect paychecks and talk smart to the camera (hello Gomer and Cammilleri). Man, I can’t wait the day this team gets rid of Gauthier and Martin. It won’t be soon and the fans will summer a couple more years under their regime but it will happen. However, given the track record of who ownership hired to run this franchise in the past 17 years should we really be holding our breath?

  50. topher5468 says:

As I was leaving the Arena last night, a bit pissed off at that horrible performance, PK was running through the arena trying to find out how to get somewhere, He wouldnt shake any hands but he looked real dapper. I know I’ve been critical of him lately but he is needed, Picard and Webber really struggled last night, as did our finishers, if I can still call them that. Hab fans were awesome last night, so many cute girls from Montreal, I love the French language

  51. topher5468 says:

It took us 55 minutes to score on the Islanders, it took the rangers 40 seconds, Thats what happens when players go to the net, the dirty area.
