That brought a deja-vu moment for me.

I had a buddy that laid out some money on the Red sox. Was watching ’86 playoffs when Buckner had his brain fart.

Suffice to say, my buddy lost more than his money that day. He first threw the TV over his balcony, then the couch and all three tables in the living room.

I wish I would have had a video camera back then.

They didn’t have much muscle last season either, just Henry and Belle so they haven’t really changed in that respect, hell they swapped Greg Stewart for a big defencemen from the Chicago Wolves just before the playoffs for extra hitting.

See what comes out of it, I don’t expect much except maybe Weber being a PP specialist (and likely traded) or Brendon Nash becoming a 3rd-pair D for Montreal as well. It is what it is, Mac Bennett and Morgan Ellis show promise as junior players and who knows, maybe Alexei Emelin will finally jump from the KHL to play in NA next season.

Adquate size for a young guy with a little offensive upside. Being named captain is a good thing. Could be a solid long term prospect for the team. Maybe like Josh Gorges was, and look how that turned out.

People forget that defenseman mature much later than forwards and usually blossom around 25 or 26. If he is in it for the long haul he may have a career.

  52. TomNickle says:

    He was talking about Schultz.

  53. SeriousFan09 says:

Weber can at least manage in the AHL though and don’t forget, the other Swiss defencemen in the NHL Mark Streit took until his mid-20s to become an NHL player. Nash had a good camp, between him, Carle, Henry, Weber and St-Denis (who did well in Hamilton last season) they should be able to play well enough. Wouldn’t bet a lot on them being NHLers but for where they’re playing they’ll do fine.

That honour now belongs to Montreal Impact’s play-by-play man, Brian Wilde.

If any of you have ever heard him describe and do a “goal call”, you’d understand. I shudder when I hear those calls, and for those 15 seconds I feel embarassed to be an Impact fan.

They’ve yet to send down Alex Henry, Mathieu Carle and Yannick Weber to be fair, a few of those Hamilton Ds we see now are going to see the ECHL or will be cut. If they all continue on their courses, they should be fine and in MTL in 2-3 years.

  71. Rage says:

As an side I got a chance to watch Habs prospect Morgan Ellis in QMJHL action this past weekend. He qwas named aptain of the CB Screaming Eagles and from every indsication will do a fine job. He is a good defenseman who has an offensive upside. He made a great play to keep the puck in on a PP and generally looked to be one of the most mature players on a young CB team. A 4th round pick in 2010 I am not surprised that he didn;t stick around in the main camp however I can see him signing after junior and could be a dark horse to make the team in a few years. Should be back up that wayu fpor a game in the next month or so as well so I will report an update.

  72. JIMVINNY says:

Keep your head up Palushaj, you’ll be back

  83. TorontoHabsFan says:

Slightly surprised that Palushaj was sent back down at this point – I would’ve thought he’d be one of the last forwards cut.

Avtsin not playing a game? Well let’s not all autmatically assume that he’s completely unredeemable – let’s remember that he’s never played a game on North American ice (he wasn’t on the WJC team from what I remember). Let’s take a wait and see approach – might be better to ease him into the North American game away from the absurd gaze of the Montreal media.

  84. mbplekfan says:

Bulldogs camp will need AHL veterans in order to get started on the right note. Leaders will be needed to motivate the youngsters who may slack off after an NHL camp.

I think Palushaj is down there mainly for this reason. He will work hard, lead by example and know that he is an early call up in an injury situation.

  85. nightmare_49 says:

T – PK was cut at the same time last year, don’t read too much into it.

  86. coachdoug says:

No real suprises on this list…Palushaj will be back next year for good if all goes well…

“Six more years…God Bless You Turtleneck Man!”

  87. SensFanSpezza says:

Ah, too bad.  I thought Palushaj played better than Eller in pre-season.

  88. Jon Hackett says:

I don’t, he was great but he doesn’t have as well rounded of a game as Eller. I can see Palushaj being called up a few times this season (2010-2011), pretty often next season (2011-2012) and then being full time the season after that. (2012-2013), assuming he keeps progressing the way he has.

  89. Big Ted says:

Eller was always the favorite to stay up this year. He had a little taste of the NHL last year and he’s been deemed more NHL-ready based on his play in the AHL. He’s a bigger guy with a better all-around game in the long run. Palushaj did some good things at camp, but his second game, he wasn’t as effective without Pleks and Cammalleri and he took a couple of bad penalties. If Palushaj were to stay, he’d likely be a 4th line guy, and I guess what he did in that role wasn’t enough. He would really have had to have played 2-3 perfect games to stick. Conversely, a guy like Ryan White or even max Pacioretty and Ben Maxwell have done most of what the club has asked of them, so they’re all getting another shot tonight. But as soon as one of them has an off-game, they’ll be back down too. There just isn’t room enough on the big club roster to squeeze in all the guys with potential.

  90. SensFanSpezza says:

LOL!  Lapierre won the Jean Beliveau award for community service, partly because of his work on an anti violence and anti bullying campaign in schools.  “Just Turtle, Kids!” was his slogan of choice.

If McGuire is so smart etc  how come he has never been hired by a NHL team after he got fired by Pierre Gauthier in the mid 90s in Ottawa – Hindsight etc is great & situations change (Kariya/Selanne)………..

    “AKA
the Point. Located along the canal, this would be a great spot for a
nice evening stroll if the threat of anal rape wasn’t so in-your-face.
It’s slowly being cleaned up, but people who are hoping it “keeps it
real” are just trying to sound cool and don’t actually live there. The
main church here has a decent weekend bazaar where you can sometimes
find weird shit. Actually this place is a dump; don’t go here!”

MacGuire DIDNT say that PK had a place by himself. He said management would be stupid if they alloed that to be the case. and dont help to arrange some sort of place for PK like other teams do for their rookies.. crosby with mario and tavares with dough weight.

Having said that he really doesnt like Guthier. Basically called Gauthier a liar on Melnick.

  150. Bahamut-Prime says:

I’m a little surprised Palushaj didn’t get a longer look.

Also I never really got a chance to see Avtsin.

  151. byrneoNL says:

I think they’ve seen what they need to see from Aaron Palushaj. That is, shows some promise. Not a lot of free spaces on the roster, and I think Mgmt has finally learned that rushing people is bad. I think he’ll be on the short list for callups this year.

Palushaj and Shultz, are probably 1-2 on the list for their positions. Those guys are gonna tear it up in Hamilton. I need to score tix to the exhibition games here in NL now. I’d like to get to see them play.

  152. TripleX says:

Yes that is what I was doing trashing PK Suban.  SIGH

Subban, had better concentrate on his defensive play, rather than jis run and gun play. two penalties, one for being out of position and another away from the play. The coaching staff gotta rein in his enthusiastic play. Subban got to play with more control.
