Peter Budaj earned his first shut-out with the Canadiens as the team broke open a scoreless battle in the third period to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0.

“He played well,” said head coach Michel Therrien. “The chemistry of that team has been great. Guys know that they had to perform better in front of Peter.”

Therrien also praised Budaj’s attitude, saying he never complains about anything.

“I really like the way our team played the last two games in front of him.”

The team is starting to feel increasingly comfortable playing tight games “and it’s a great sign,” Therrien said.

“It’s good for the confidence of the team, the players,” said Therrien, adding that good teams start to feel at ease in those type of games.

“And this is what I like–they’re tight games and I don’t see any panic. Guys stick to the plan and good things happen when you work hard.”

It was the Canadiens fourth win in a row.

Canadiens’ forward Brandon Prust scored the game’s first goal at 2:06 of the third period. Tomas Plekanec gave the Canadiens a 2-0 lead when he fired a slapshot that bounced over Hurricanes’ goaltender Cam Ward. As his goal was  being announced, Max Pacioretty scored his first of the season, flipping the puck from the neutral zone into the Hurricanes’ end of the ice that somehow got past Ward.

Ryan White was back in the line up after missing four games as a healthy scratch.

I was pumped they got Budaj the shutout, that patches got the monkey off of his back and that pleks notched another goal. Also, this is the first game I noticed Subban throw the body again, which was nice to see.

“Backup goalie getting the shut out is like your mistress babysitting your kids. Did a great job but still feels wrong.”
