Gomez, Spacek good to go

PRE-GAME AUDIO: Jacques Martin | Max Pacioretty | P.K. Subban

Scott Gomez and Jaroslav Spacek appear ready to play against the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Bell Centre. Both participated in the morning skate in Brossard and were with their usual partners. Gomez was between Max Pacioretty and Brian Gionta while Spacek was paired with Roman Hamrlik on defence.

Yannick Weber will be a healthy scratch along with Tom Pyatt and Dustin Boyd.

And Canadiens prospect Michael Bournival was among the final cuts from the Canadian national junior team today. Louis Leblanc made the team as expected.

    1. Gomez

    2. Grabs

    3. combo of  b and c…demotion and scoring

    4. True (for now)

    5. Carsicko

  2. punkster says:

    Unbelievable, even from you.

  3. HabFanSince72 says:

    The best laid plans …

What Montreal nightlife did to Higgins, Lucic did to Komisarek.

  4. marshx says:

Yes, its terrible to watch. Can’t imagine what someone with it goes through as your mind stays intact but body wastes away little by little. Luckily my friend has a strong mind and much like Tony is trying to stay positive.

  5. SmartDog says:

I agree with you. This “skill conquers” stuff is BS.

We have a couple of kinda physical guys but we need at least one bone-crushing idiot on the team.  Phily has 4 or 5, Boston has a couple.  We can win.. unless they throw us off our game, which they probalby will do.

  6. LA Loyalist says:

Your theory is brilliant. Problem is we’re playing Philthy (thanx Serious) and Boss-tones.

too small, too soft, too intangible

  7. samTHEman says:

    1. G-love

    2. Komi

    3. JM wants a scorer on all four lines

    4. Duh

    5. Carcillo. If he’s out then Powe

  8. LA Loyalist says:

… if there’s no leafs game

  9. LA Loyalist says:

… if there’s no leafs game

  10. LA Loyalist says:

darn good point, what annoyed me was Gretzky complaining about fighting in hockey, when he always had his personal bodyguard following him around — which is fine, but don’t whine about it. I actually have more respect for Cindy, whom otherwise I can’t stand.

  11. LA Loyalist says:

a fabulous ironic statement in and of itself. In fact, iconic.

  12. LA Loyalist says:

Remember when we were so excited to get Komi and Higgins? It’s just sad to see how it played out.

  13. J_P says:

Yeah really good for Leblanc.  It was nice to see that he was a lock seeing as he didnt even play against the CIS all stars the other night.  Very encouraging, considering our log-jam at center for the next few years, that he is comfortable playing on the wing.  Can’t wait to watch him at the WJHC.  Probably one of the most entertaining hockey tournaments on the planet.

  14. Somethingwithhabsinit says:

You’re making a totally different argument here. I agree, Gomez is definitely capable of playing better, and we definitely need him to if we are to do anything this year. That being said, our team is worse without him in the lineup, even at his current playing level. He has gotten off to a terrible start this year, no question. I don’t particularly like ‘defending’ him at this point, but I think it is warranted when people imply that the team would be better off with him in the press box. Obviously I’d like to have Brad Richards instead, but that’s not the option we’re facing right now.

Dustin Boyd is not quite Brad Richards at this stage of his career. Extra point finale.

  15. J_P says:

Me too, Im excited to see if Max Pac can put his money where his mouth is.  I expect it will take him a couple of games to adjust to the NHL again, hopefully JM shows him some patience and confidence.

  16. Storm Man says:

Keep up the good work Triple, I see you have lost the Bleu Bleu et Rouge membership card again.

  17. joeybarrie says:

    1. The Montreal Canadiens are have won only 1 game (Columbus) out of all the ones Gomez has been out of the lineup.

    2. I dont understand the question

    3. Is this a serious question?

    4. unknown

    5. Daniel Carcillo

There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey…

  18. HardHabits says:

Are you really that dense or is that just the tip of the iceberg? Either way, your comments give an indication that your trolling skills are sinking fast.

  19. J_P says:

Last year he was half effective, this year he isnt.  He’s one of the few minus players on this team.  Nevermind the fact that hes on pace for under 40 points.  I dont get the people that defend him.  We need better from him this year, and he is capable of better.  Point finale.  If he cant provide better than no one can say we are better off with him.  If we had the $7.3 million of cap space back, we have the chips to make a deal for brad richards, and I dont think anyone will dispute that we would be better off with brad richards.   Currently, dollars for points wise, our big three are probably one of the worst investments in the league.  Carey can’t win every game on his own, the boys have to put up some points and score some goals.

I dont hate scott gomez, I just know hes capable of better, and I want to see better performance from him.  My expectations really arent even that high.

  20. SeriousFan09 says:

If Subban’s confidence was so easily rattled, he wouldn’t be where he is right now, move on.

Price is playing because there is no goalie in the NHL earning 1 million or less NOT an EL deal that could in their wildest dreams be competing with him for starts right now, he’s that good.

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  21. filincal says:

I’m in no way directly comparing Pleks with ’99’ , but more the line strategy.

  22. filincal says:

truth is he’d probabaly get creamed every time..so yeah I guess smart that way as well.

Gretzky had Semenko for that reason and that reason alone. And I don;t think too many Oiler fans back in the day complained about Semenko’s hands around the net.

I think if our D was alot meaner, we could get away with the Kost,Pleks,Cammi line more often. There has to be a respected/ tough presence on the ice at all times (or most of the time).

  23. newbrunswick troy says:

i see that Leblanc made the junior team,  thats great, also they said that they are playing an excibition game against  CIS allstars   …..being from fredericton and unb being the #1 ranked team in Canada i wonder who from unb will be on that team?????does anybody know?

  24. Say Ash says:

in the four games he missed last year, we were 1-3

  25. OneTimer says:

Ah, I see. You were asking a question you already knew the answer to. Well stats are one thing, I’m no expert but I wrote what I see when I watch the Habs play. :)

  26. J_P says:

    1.  The truth of the matter is, as much as you and I dislike Gomez’ play this season, we’re stuck with him, and we really need for him to get going.  Spacek I think we can live without for a couple of games seeing as we actually have depth at defense.

    2.  Grabovski, he’s actually half decent at least.

    3.  Im gonna go with E, just because it made me laugh.

    4.  Without a doubt

    5.  They’re all goons.

  27. Just A Guy says:

    1) Gomez suprisingly, but that has more to do with Max Pac’s potential impact on his line. (Bonus answer, I’m not a huge fan of Czec or Mexican cuisine, though, I would have to profess my ignorance of the former)

2)Grabs, He looks funny, I loved his salute to the crowd when he fought Sergei … damn how long ago was that?… that 1980’s russian gangster two armed salute, when he got kicked off the ice. Showed he was his own man, corny as he is.

Must have been 2 years ago, it may have been the same game Saku cross-checked him to the ice and gave him a stern talking to.

    3) it would be a punitive move, that hopefully only lasts a few shifts, which might not be a bad idea. Given his play the past few games…which leads to 4) True, a few posters were claiming last year that the line was one of the best in the NHL when it was healthy.

    5) The dirtiest player on the ice last night looked like Pronger, I didn’t watch most of the game, but from what I saw, its all stuff after the whistle. Hartnell maybe?

  28. J_P says:

Gomez, not a coincidence that our scoring has gone down the toilet since he’s been out.

Yeah, cause two games on back to back nights is a real good sample size… and I mean, its not like we got shut out three times this season with gomez in the line-up or anything…

  29. christophor says:

check the stats: 3 Andrei hits for every 2 Moen hits.

  30. SmartDog says:

Good theory.  One I missed above.

I think they hate Pleks because he’s so skilled and quite scrappy in a way, but he doesn’t actually stand up to fight (not becuase he’s chicken but because he’s smart.)

  31. HabFanSince72 says:

This is very poor trolling, captain.

  32. SmartDog says:

    You never know.

My dog had the runs the last two games.  I thought THAT was why we lost.

  33. HabFanSince72 says:

Well, I posted that same fact re +/- yesterday.I agree with what some people said, that +/- don’t always tell the whole story.

  34. OneTimer says:

Harder yes, I don’t know about more often (and for a tough guy Moen doesn’t lay someone out all that often). Andrei’s hits are like an eclipse: rare, but when you’re seeing it, it’s awesome to behold. :>

  35. wotever says:

The bigger concern is that, according to TSN, Sergei is playing!

    (Maybe that’s an editorial.)

    It’s just a game.

  36. HabFanSince72 says:

Gomez, not a coincidence that our scoring has gone down the toilet since he’s been out.

And they say irony is difficult to convey on the internet.

  37. HabFanSince72 says:

    1. Spacek plays well on occasion. Gomez is in a huge slump. Guess I’m cautiously optimistic for both players.

    2. Grabbo. Agree that Komi is pitiable now.

    3. I’ve already answered this.

    4. True.

    5. Pronger, even with Shelley in the lineup.

  38. OneTimer says:

    1. Gomez, easy. If I was coach I’d give Spacek a night off once in a while anyways, and that isn’t really a knock on him.

    2. Grabovski. Latendresse, whatever he’s just fat, Komi I almost feed bad for now

    3. none of the above. weren’t those just practice lines? JM likes to keep people guessin’ 😉

    4. If they produce like they did at the beginning of the season, without a doubt

    5. I’m going to interpret “goon” as “general douchebag” and go with Richards. Talk about respect all you want, Mike, I still haven’t forgotten that hit on David Booth (and neither has he)

  39. Mark C says:

Come on XXX, this is embarrassing work, even from you.

Auld has better numbers than Price in his 3 games, couldn’t JM use that as justification to play him over Price more than 3 games? Btw, Auld has played the fewest games of any regular back-up in the league.

Imagine AK actually getting involved in the play and a +9!

Have you been watching the games? AK hasn’t been getting involved in the play lately, and that’s part of the problem. AK is averaging 2.56 shots per game this season. Over his last 5 games he has 5 shots.

  40. TomNickle says:

    1. Gomez, not a coincidence that our scoring has gone down the toilet since he’s been out.

    2. None of the above…..none of them really hurt us and we got a good return in two of their cases.  It could be argued that saving the money by not getting Komisarek back is a good return too.

    3. Trying to motivate Andrei.

    4. True.

    5. Carcillo

  41. SeriousFan09 says:

    1. Gomez, we need transition game from both top lines.

    2. Tenderness

    3. Demote AK as a lesson.

    4. This season? Yes that’s been our best.

    5. Carcillo or Power

    – I shall always remember Captain Koivu. Habs and Hockey.

  42. Just A Guy says:

Barring any egregrious errors and given the comments he has made to the media, I would be very suprised to see Max Pac off the top lines and not getting PP time. He should have relatively simple tasks, so enthusiasm or persistence..or both, is all that is really required of him, along with his usual skill set. Go get the puck, go to the net, play within the system, shoot the damn puck.

  43. SmartDog says:

1.Who are you more glad to have back, Gomer or Spatch?  (Bonus question: if you were in a deli and the special was Gomer and Spatch would you order it?)

    2. To borrow one of Bug’s terms, which former Hab is the biggest bastich: Grabasski, Latenderness, or Komislotpass?

    3. If Moen is on the first line and AK is on the 4th it’s because a)
    Martin thinks he’s a first
line player b) Martin wants to demote AK c) Martin wants a scorer on all
4 lines d) Martin is trying to slow down the production of players in
their contract years or e) Martin spun the “wheel of donuts” and that’s
    what it said to

    4. True or false: Our very best #1 line is AK-Pleks-Cami

    5. With Shelley out of the Flyers line-up, who becomes the biggest goon on the team?

BONUS QUESTION: With Shelley out will Susan play?  (Look out! Here comes sssssuuuuusssasaannnn!!)

  44. Mattyleg says:

  46. LatheDog says:

    Thanks, O’Byrne.

  47. filincal says:

It’s my interpritation that Moen is on Pleks’ line to not just prevent him from getting roughed up during the play, but more so after the whistle. Pleks almost always gets pushed around after the whistle because opponents know he doesn’t push back very hard.

I’ve noticed almost every team do the same thing…it’s like they all have a hate on for him.

  48. Mark C says:

I didn’t mean bandwagon in a bad sense. I think we’ll see AK placed on the Plek’s line soon, likely as soon as tonight when Montreal “needs” offense. I don’t care if Moen is Frank Selke himself, now that Max has been called up, Moen should only get top-6 time under special circumstances. I do understand Moen taking shifts on Plek’s line tonight and tomorrow, however that should be it, baring the line becoming white hot.

  52. TomNickle says:

Any example of Martin crippling his confidence or just empty criticism like usual?

  53. LatheDog says:

I heard that the Montreal/Boston game on Thursday will be shown on CBC.  Is this true???

  54. secretdragonfly says:

And how could I forget – Abdelkader.

  55. christophor says:

If we need grindin’ on the top line, we have the cap space for Ogie Ogelthorpe.

  56. TripleX says:

Now that JM has crippled the confidence of PK it is time to put AK in his place.  A coach’s work is never done.  Lucky for Price that AA is so terrible that JM has to play Price.

Imagine AK actually getting involved in the play and a +9!  Way too flashy for JM.  Better to be a top six forward like Moen.

    ‘Cogito ergo doleo’

  57. SeriousFan09 says:

When you say something really, really stupid, claim to be the hockey insider and want to pretend like you should be a GM, expect your foolish statements to come into context regarding your ‘expertise’. Not one member of the Leafs defence is fit to tape Larry Robinson’s stick, didn’t stop Mcguire from comparing the Top 4 of Toronto last year to the Big Three.

I have a friend going through the same thing, he was diagnosed with it a few years ago.

  60. Malreg says:

Last night on TSN’s That’s Hockey, Gord Miller asked Pierre McGuire if there was room for one of Murray or Murphy on the Team Canada WJC team.  McGuire said that both will be there.  Needless to say, they were both cut this morning.

  61. habaddict_andy says:

I wonder how many excited about Max Pac playing tonight on the top line.  And I hope Jacques will have a little more patience if he does not produce tonight and tomorrow.  I’m excited about tonights game.  Lucky those going to the game tonight.

  62. SmartDog says:

Well I don’t see it as a bandwagon.  I’ve been saying Gio needs to play with Gomez for weeks now, if only to get the other guys away from him.  Gio knows his game and is flexible enough to play it.  And MaxPac should be tried at top 6 so it’s obvious where he should go – not on our first line but on our “second”.

And apparently it’s Moen and not AK on the 2nd line…. argh.  I guess Martin is thinking create 3 scoring lines.  Might work but I like AK with Cami-Pleks.  Hope that’s not another bandwagon I’m going to be accused to be on as again I’ve been consistant in hoping they’re put back together from the day JM broke them up.  I think that line makes sense – 3 guys who can ALL control the puck, all are dangerous shooters, all can also make great passes.  It’s our most powerful #1 line.
