SK is not better than Metro who is coming back after a long layoff due to a separated shoulder?  Wow dude!

  2. TripleX says:

The fact that the entire Pleks line is -4 for the series and MAB is -5 puts major holes in your arguement.

How many goals does MAB have to justify his errors?  I would have no complaint if the punishments were applied equally to every player.

  3. Bouleau noir says:

Depth players need to show a higher level of commitment than S.K. does to be effective and S.K.’s offensive output is not hight enouph to compensate for his errings…. his shift following our fourth goal in Washington was everything you dont want to see from a third line player and the reasons why Washington were able to score their second goal and be back in the game before the ending of the second period.

  4. Aybara says:

JM’s vendetta against Sergei is a crock of droppings. The guy makes a couple mistakes here and there, but he’s working on it.. They need to give him ice time and a chance to grow instead of giving it to someone like darche who ain’t gonna be helping the team going forward.

Fire JM before getting rid of Sergei if it’s between the two.. Goddamn egoist!

  5. MikeL says:

    Those stats are obviously skewed.

Pittsburgh and Ottawa are in the same series – 1 and 2.

    Detroit and Phoenix – 3 and 4

Buffalo and Boston- 5 and 8

Montreal and Washington – last and 3rd last

The biggest gap between two teams in the same series is 5 – Nashville and Chicago.

So, those stats are pretty series dependant, and I wouldn’t put too much value into them.

  6. HardHabits says:

Lucky we had Theo to kick around for a game and two goals.

  7. Exit716 says:

Gauthier was the guy that decided Janne Niiniimaa was worth trading Ribeiro for.

    Sergei Samsonov, Georges Laraque,…..

He’s the pro scout so what does that tell you?

  8. 24 Cups says:

Earl – It’s too early to tell, but I figure that Subban will get the call.  Of course he has to earn it in training camp.  The other new Dman has to be a guy with size who can clear the front of the net.  If that happens then MAB may not be needed.

You also have to wonder if Carle or Weber will be around next year.  What the hell happened to all the good young defensive prospects that we had in our system such a short time ago?

Great to here from you again on H /IO.  I trust that all is well with you and yours.

BTW, I went out and golfed today.  For the first 10 holes I was on fire and played like Andrei Markov.  Then I blew a tire and played like crap – just like Samsonov:-)

  9. Mr.Hazard says:

I just KNOW, that if we ended up facing Buffalo, Miller would be killing us. Same with Brodeur in NJ. If it had been one of those two goalies in Game 1, we’d already be down 3-0 in the series.

  10. ebk says:

Bergeron is one of Gainey’s better FA signing, and was a huge plus for the team despite his limiatations. If he’s only considered half a player, then the roster is littered with many 1/4 and 1/10 players filling out the roster.

Ideally yo replace him but he’s palyed well and I’d have no problem with him back on the team.

Drew Doughty talking trash to a Canucks player during the game, you could read his lips, he says:

  14. Mr.Hazard says:

Eeeeexactly. Especially considering they scored 5 goals last game and 6 goals the game before.

  15. Mr.Hazard says:

Yuck. Although, in general, I’d prefer get lots of hits from Buffalo than Philly… Most of Philly’s are late/using the stick/lower back/dirty/etc. lol…

Boone talks about Philadelphia’s physicality, & how Montreal matches up better with Buffalo.

    From NHL.com:

Pittsburgh leads with 163 hits in 4 games

Buffalo has 128 hits in 3 games

Philadelphia has 111 hits in 4 games

Montreal is last with 59 hits in 3 games

An optimistic look at the Habs’ situation

  21. 24 Cups says:

mb – Right now, at this point in time, there is no way that SK74 is a better hockey player than Metro (that’s just me being picky with your list).

I also think that another reason for Sergei (or any other forward ) sitting out is the MAB factor.  If O’Byrne plays, that means Bergeron wastes a spot up front.  Your 4th line is basically no line at all.  In light of that fact, I would just double shift some of the guys from the third line (onto the 4th) so that we can at least rotate four lines.

I really appreciate what Bergeron has done for us this year.  However, he can’t return next year.  We can’t afford to have a half player take up an entire roster spot for the entire season.

  22. mrhab says:

    Hey Boone

Really like the goal breakdown feature for the playoffs.  Its done quite well and no real favortism is shown

i dont know i always thought it was bryan murray who made the sens better( i guess i am wrong), i also heard that he made some bad trades for the ducks, besides brian burke built the team that won the cup, but  i dont know how he did with the Avs.

  25. Batalla says:

Well he build the Nordiques/Avalance, Senators, and Ducks.  So we have to give the guy a chance.  The only thing is, it’ll take a miracle to rebuild this team now that we have some of the contracts we do.

    http://habsbros.blogspot.com/

  26. Batalla says:

Well, I thought we matched well with the Capitals, more so than any other playoff team in the East, anyway.  But the fact of the matter is, that this is a sub-par team that barely squeaked into the playoffs.  And aside from the possibility of some hot play from some key guys, this is a team that will ride that rollercoaster of blah for the foreseeable future.

But, as a Habs fan I cling to hope.  However daunting it could possibly be.  We showed we can play them.  So here’s hoping for a good game.

And here’s hoping Ovechkin gets hurt:  http://habsbros.blogspot.com/2010/04/game-4-buzz-heightens-after-rumous.html

after gainey resigned, i had high hopes for at least 10 mins that we were going to get a new GM, since we are the MTL candaiens, and our owners know their hockey i thought we were going to get a good gm. when i heard it was going to be PG. all  hope shattered. My point is i am afraid we might be going back to rejan houle’s era, especially with JM as coach. i don’t trust PG is the rigght guy for this job abd also there is  timmis picking players below 6 ft from NCAA and somewhere in uzbeskitan.and im worried for PK as well, Jm may not like his style of play and he might give the same treatment he gives SK.. so will we ruin anohter one of our prospect and see him flourish with another team?

  28. SeriousFan09 says:

Shea Weber in a Habs uniform… oh the dreams of we Habs fans grow mighty indeed. Don’t see the Cube being effective on a D-roster lacking size here though, he may be the strongest 5’8″ defencemen to ever play, but that doesn’t mean he’s an answer to our problems.

Sergei being sat out tonight is stupid, we need effective forwards out there. Looks more and more like we’ll be sending the K brothers away in the summer, for nothing, they’ll tear it up elsewhere and people will whine we didn’t give them a fair shake. What will we get back? Not much, enigmas and guys labeled as malcontents get you **** **** all in the trade market.

I’m pretty sure that in some cases they are used and I know in some cases in the States H.G.H. is used as well(Seen it on 60 minutes) as well when Doctor prescribed it’s legal plus there are other steroids (pregasone)spelling ? and what have you.

  33. Iceberg84 says:

Plus, 2 goals or less against washington is an accomplishment. I think that only happened 5 or 6 times this season. Even with a loss, letting them score 2 goals wouldn’t be bad for a goalie.

  34. mbplekfan says:

Have to agree with your assesment. I cant imagine what Sergei did to push himself behind Tom Pyatt, M Darche, Lapierre, and Metro on the depth chart.

Sergei has skills that these guys can only wish for.

Putting OB into the lineup is a positive development but only if you allow him to play physical and knock some heads if they bang into Price.  A tentative OB is no good, he has to be mean and aggressive to be effective.

  35. andrewberkshire says:

Can someone in the media please ask what it is Sergei is or is not doing that has Martin so pissed at him? surely it can be phrased diffrently.  If we get eliminated I would love to know the truth abouthis situation…..what s the real deal because there has to be far more to it.  We all see the games and know that Sergei deserves to play and far more opportunity than he gets.  Is he really that much of a dink at practice or off the ice? Soemone could probably write a damn book on this and thousands of copies would sell to HIO alone……why? what is the logic here….if we lose him to the KHL because Martin is an idiot it will be horrible….we could potentially lose 2 players befcause our coach is an idiot…or maybe Serei is that bad off the ice? I don;t know but I know enough to see that he is and has always been better than the guys we dress instead of him.  Do coaches really need to have a scapegoat?  I think coaches should get healthy scratched every know and then….d sucks, d coach sit it out and insert Boucher into the lineup, Martin sucks…insert a flying monkey into the lineup…actually let’s just go ahead and do that one anyway.  It is so frustrating and people can say that a guy who scored 7 goals doesn;t make a difference all they want…this team has only ever shown any promise in the last several years when it had depth…..

  40. forskis says:

  50. habs4cup says:

I heard on the team 990, quoting McGuire who stands between benches saying: “JM says absolutely nothing nothing to his players during the game”.

so I guess that explains why this team neber comes back in a game when they’re behind and never has any confidence. If your coach isn’t willing to give positive affirmations, you’re done .

there isn’t a team that is less fragile than this 1, and their psyche is 1 of fear and afraid to lose. that’s why they always play to not lose, instead of playing to win.

JM is the absolute worst choice for coach of this team. If only the Molson Bros could see what the entire world sees. GET RID OF JM OR NEXT YEAR WILL ACTUALLY BE WORSE!

It shows how badly off we are for toughness when we have to rely on only one guy, OB, to clear the net. He also seems to be the only one we can think of who could possibly go to the net.

  62. jbroderi says:

There is one game!! that is all the habs need worry about. WIN ONE GAME.. it will be tough, for sure.  But we can’t think about winning three of them. We just have to win one tonight!!!  We have the boys to do it..

    W. C. Fields also said

    Always carry a
flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small
    snake.”

    Speaking of
snakebite, I have to think that at some point in his coaching career Jacques
Martin suffered a bite that has caused him to somehow annually get his teams to
underachieve as the season progresses. All those years with very talented
Senators teams produced how many Stanley Cups? And now, albeit with a much less
skilled club, he seems destined to repeat. As we all know the Habs seemed to be
coasting to a fifth or sixth place finish with just a handful of games
remaining and on a streak. Then the JM venom kicked in and lo and behold they
back into the playoffs in eighth. As an example, you can go right back to the Buffalo
game – Habs leading 2-0 with a couple of minutes to go when they give up a
goal. Big Mo shifted, Buffalo would pull its goalie giving them a two skater
advantage over the penalized Habs. Does this situation call for a “Time Out”
maybe?!?!? Seems not; and you know the outcome. The Habs’ woes begin behind the
bench I am afraid – let’s hope the off season is a long way away, but unless it’s
delayed until about mid-June, the brain trust has to either make a coaching
move or provide JM with a much needed flagon of whiskey for next year!!

  66. Harani says:

Something I wanted to mention is that Markov has to play better. I
personally think that he is a better overall defenseman than Mike
    Green.

And from what I have seen in this series so far, Green
has been horrible. But Markov, although he hasn’t been horrible, he
isn’t making the impact we need him to make. Maybe he’s injured, he
needs to be more engaged and be able to make stuff happen.

  67. forskis says:

I hope JM puts SK74 back in tonight…he plays well with Moore and Moen but it would be great if he took control of that line by saying to both Moen and Moore, “Get to the front of the net and I will get you the puck.”
